Why whould you want to strip things? Check if the input meets a certain
requirement.. like US phone numbers should be something like 123-456-7890
So, anything else is NOT valid.

You could also check the length of the string send.

Yep,

As far as I know, it's not recommended by Allaire themselves to use Design
mode with PHP/ASP unless you want it to muck around with your code, only for
pure HTML.

You mean http://php.net/addslashes I suppose. Also read through the

Hi,

You might want to have a look at
http://www.thewebmasters.net/php/Validator.phtml is a class for
validating serveral things. It is a PHP class. You can have a look at
the regexps they have used. But as stated before it would be better to
check the syntax instead... if it is not a phone number just do not
accept it and require the user to enter it again.

I haven't used explode for a while, but I believe it creates an array?

you want to turn the array into an html select box?

that would be this...

$wyp_value
HTML;

Perhaps you've got another version of cron then I've got.. mine doesn't do
less then one minute..
Only solution if you want to use cron is to add something like sleep..
Have to warn you, your ISP is going to hate you for this.

If you want your visitor to see the new entries in the table then I think a
meta refresh consumes less resources.

Even if you use cron your visitor doesn't get the updated info in his browser..

Hewwo,

When selecting a value from a combobox, I always have a link that allows
adding a record to the table the combobox pulls it's data from. Here is my

Is it possible in any way to window.open() a popup window (JavaScript), fill
in a record, add it to the database (PHP) and then reload the caller page so
that the just added record appears in the combobox where the user can select
it for completing the file? Or add it to the combobox manually with
JavaScript to avoid a reload?

Well, forget it. Many major providers like Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail etc.pp.
have *VERY* SPAM strict filters in place. Especially if you use Bcc:'s,
chances are high that a lot of your will bounce.

If you'll be doing something like this more often, it'll be a lot easier
and a lot more successful if you outsource this to specialized
companies. They know how to circumvent this kind of trouble.

RE: [PHP] mod_rewrite

2001-09-09 Thread Matthew Loff

Subdomains are first a DNS issue... The first place you have to go is
your DNS config, since users.body-builders.org wouldn't exist without an
A or CNAME record.

I don't know if mod_rewrite can do anything about the subdomains like
that, if it can't, you will have to add VirtualHost directives to
httpd.conf for each subdomain.

How about http://wasarrested.com? IO don't know how they do it, but you
can enter whatever subdomain you want and it reflecst it on the weppage.
Example http://bill.clinton.wasarrested.com or youri.wasarrested.com.

Hi,
I'm using homesite 4.5.1 and I've not had the problem you describe.
However, since I use a remote server, when I have a php page up, and go to
design view, funny things do happen. I just don't go there anymore.

Yep,

As far as I know, it's not recommended by Allaire themselves to use Design
mode with PHP/ASP unless you want it to muck around with your code, only for
pure HTML.

On php.net I found this:

When you use REMOTE_ADDR for getting the IP of the current user, sometimes
you get the IP of the ISP Cache server.
When this happens, the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR is also set, it contains the IP
of the user.
[...]
Note that the X-Forwarded for header might contain multiple addresses, comma
separated, if the request was forwarded through multiple proxies.
[...]

My question is:
If the X-Forwarded for header contains multiple addresses, comma separated,
where do I find the one of the user? (I which order does it contain the
adresses?)
Do I get the right order (from the last proxies (at the beginning) to the
user itself (at the end)) when I do this:
$ip_route = $HTTP_SERVER_VARS["REMOTE_ADDR"] . "," .
$HTTP_SERVER_VARS["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"];
So that I finally have a chronological sorted list (i know: a string that
contains the comma seperated ip-addresses of the users way to me (if they
were forwarded by the proxie))? Am I right?

Thanks for any coments about this.

The session handling of php seems not to work very well on my computer:
if session.gc_probability is set to a value smaler 35, it never executes my
gabarage_collection-function. When it is bigger than 35, it's executed every
time.
I'm using W2K and php 4.02? Does anybody knows the reason for this?

Good point, felix...

I didn't even think of catch-all DNS domains... I don't know how to set
them up, but I'm sure with a catch-all and mod_rewrite, you can
accomplish something useful.

Check google for "catch all dns" or something of the like.

Or install your own listserver software.. I'm not sure how good they are in
terms of using a MySQL database as source, but you could create any file
using PHP..
Might be worthwile to check this.. also.. these packages would normally
handle bounces. You could do the same but it would cost you to much time.

You should have made clear what you wanted to do in the first place. Not in
a sentence one should read 5 times to understand what you want..

Think I would do it with an if.. then loop. Just after the counter is
raised one you check if it equals your BINGO value.

And you shouldn't yell at people trying to help you.

[PHP] Apache/PHP URL problem

2001-09-09 Thread Helmut

Just noticed a strange problem with one of my business servers. It's
configured identically (afaik) to all of my other servers (which do not
exhibit this behavior), with Apache 1.3.20 and PHP 4.0.6, running on Linux
Mandrake 7.2.

The problem occurs only when requesting PHP documents. Say, for example, I
have a PHP script at: http://www.example.com/myphpscript.php

For some reason, I can also access this page via:
http://www.example.com/myphpscript

On top of that, I seem to be able to pass a whole bogus path afterwards:
http://www.example.com/myphpscript/blah/blah/blah/and/so/on/etc/

...and the page (myphpscript.php) is still displayed properly.

It's not really a big deal, but I had some prick with too much time on his
hands taking advantage of this, filling my logfiles with thousands of
requests for ~300-character URLs.

This ONLY happens with files with the .php extension (not .html files) so
I'm not sure if it's a problem with my Apache config, my PHP config, or
what... Anyone have any clues? I've been through both the Apache and PHP
docs a few times over, but can't seem to find anything relevant.

Compiled Apache with:
--prefix=/usr/local/apache --enable-module=ssl --enable-module=so --enable-m
odule=log_agent --enable-module=log_referer --enable-module=proxy --enable-m
odule=rewrite --enable-module=speling --enable-module=usertrack --enable-mod
ule=vhost_alias

And PHP with:
--with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --enable-versioning --with-mysql=/usr
/local/mysql --enable-track-vars

Any help would be appreciated!

Helmut

[PHP] cleaning up the uri

2001-09-09 Thread Jon Thompson Coon

I don't want to ask all these silly questions constantly time, but being
lazy overcomes the urge not to do so.

Having a page somethin/somewhere/index.php?do=this&and=that. This page
does some updating and database queries. Hitting the reload button makes
these things happen again (obviously). My question is, what are the
usual ways of dealing with this problem?

I don't want to separate my code into separe files, i.e. linking into a
script that does the updating and redirects to the original page without
the do=this&and=that part. When you require a html page modify itself,
is it possible to remove the GET stuff from the result? By, f. ex. using
header(whatnot: where) and then builing the material?

I might not be very clear about this, but hopefully the meaning filters
through.

That'd probably be because they didn't install the HTTPS-able

[PHP] Why do form submissions need stripslashes() invocations?

2001-09-09 Thread Neil Zanella

Hello,

I would like to know why PHP adds slashes to the double quote,
single quote, and backslash characters when submitting a form.
In particular it would be nice if the PHP manual or some other
manual mentioned this but I could not find any official
documentation on this issue. Why does PHP add the
slashes in the first place? (I'm using PHP 4.0.4pl1
and don't know if this is just a bug or whether
it was meant to be this way).

Thanks,

Neil

It is meant to be this way because so many scripts out there send form
data directly to databases where these need to be escaped. You can change
this behaviour with the magic_quotes_gpc directive in your php.in file.

Re: [PHP] Apache/PHP URL problem

This is standard PATH_INFO behaviour. I don't really see a DoS issue
here. Use piped logs or something and teach your logging system not to
log these if you have an issue with it. DoS from filling log files isn't
something we can do much about.

Describe them as tablename.fieldname and you may want to alias them so
you can differentiate in PHP. For example, if you have tables 'person'
and 'place', both with a field 'description', you could use something like

SELECT person.description AS pdesc, place.description AS wdesc FROM
person, place WHERE

Hi Rasmus!

Thanks for your explanation. Unfortunately I am using a server on which I
do not have write access to php.ini. I have also been noticing that
a submitted \" is received as " when I use stripslashes() thus
stripslashes() is not a totally safe alternative. Is there a
way that I can achieve the magic_quotes_gpc effect without
modifying the php.ini file? I guess I can do a
set_magic_quotes_runtime(0); I am not sure if
this is what I need in my situation.

Thanks, and thanks for PHP!!!

Re: [PHP] Why do form submissions need stripslashes() invocations?

Like all other PHP config directives you can set it in your .htaccess file
using:

php_value magic_quotes_gpc off

And you are wrong on the \" part. If magic_quotes_gpc is on and you
submit a string that contains \" then it will be escaped to \\\" and a
StripSlashes() will turn it back into \"

Additionally, you can write code that will work under either situation
by querying get_magic_quotes_gpc and get_magic_quotes_runtime to see
which are in effect at any given time.

[PHP] Assigning output of include() to a variable

2001-09-09 Thread Sid

Hi,

I've been trying to figure this thing out for 3 hours now. Lets say we have
a variable $x. Now I need to assign $x with similar output that comes from
an include function.

For anyone who did not understand me --> Instead of the stupid include()
function outputing the file contents to the browser I need it to assign it
to variable x.

I am pretty sure inlude() cannot do it but is there any other function
similar to include() that will process the file and then assign the output
to a variable.

Thanks in advance

[PHP] OpenLDAP Support / Compiling PHP

2001-09-09 Thread Jason Murray

Hi folks,

I've just downloaded, configured and installed OpenLDAP from
www.openldap.org. Now I have to recompile PHP to support it,
which is proving interesting.

http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.configure.php says to
use --with-ldap[=DIR], where "The parameter is the LDAP base
install directory, defaults to /usr/local/ldap."

I don't have /usr/local/ldap, and I don't know what the "base
install directory" is. (I installed OpenLDAP *from* root's
home directory in /root/openldap-2.0.11, but that seems a bit
unusual to use in a configure command)

There's a whole bunch of stuff in /usr/local/lib, though:

[root@prowler]# ls /usr/local/lib
liblber.a liblber.so.2  libldap.la  libldap.so.2.0.6
libldap_r.so  php   liblber.la  liblber.so.2.0.6
libldap.solibldap_r.a   libldap_r.so.2  php.ini
liblber.solibldap.a libldap.so.2libldap_r.la
libldap_r.so.2.0.6

... so could someone please tell me what I should be using
for the base install directory here?

Thanks

there's a stupid function called file() that does that
it's in the stupid manual - which also explains the behaviour of include for

Re: [PHP] Assigning output of include() to a variable

2001-09-09 Thread Michael Kimsal

file() probably won't do it, unless you call an http:// file request to
your webserver - PHP won't execute other PHP code in another file when
pulled in thru file().

What you are looking for is most likely output buffering.

Read up on ob_start at php.net/ob_start. Basically turn output buffering
on, include() the file, grab the contents from the output buffer, put them
into $x, and clear the buffer. There should be an example or 2 at the
website. zend.com also had an article on output buffering.

[PHP] script waiting for an output

2001-09-09 Thread Chris Aitken

Hey all,

Ive got a bit of a curly one I haven't been able to work out yet... Here is
the scenareo

I have a GSM Modem sitting on the serial port of a FreeBSD 4.0 box. It has
some software running which basically conrols the GSM modem.

When I use it command line, I issue it the command and it does its stuff
and outputs me some data so I know its outcome (whether it was successful
or not depends on what is output).

This is fine because I can make the script wait for the output from the
spawned command when I do it via PHP.

The question is, whenever an SMS message comes into the GSM modem, it
outputs some more text. Now.. if in sitting in console on the box, it comes
up on my screen. What I want to be able to do is, whenever a message comes
into the GSM modem, somehow detect it, fire off a PHP script I will write,
and do whatever it needs to do with it.

I just dont know how to go about waiting for some form of output in
FreeBSD, when it happens fire off a script.

I dont know if what im talking about makes sense, or is even doable, but if
anyone has any ideas or suggestions it'd be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

[PHP] Question on the list() function

I am a newbie and having some problems with a function I found in a script:

while(list($key,list($tag,$data))=each($array))

If this is correct, which order is the dimension of the array? For example
if the values of the variables were: $tag = 2 and $key = 1 would it be:
$array[1][2] or $array[2][1]

I have tried both, and dont get the $data (outside of the while loop I am
trying to access specific parts of the array). Other thoughts?

Thanks for the help,

[PHP] HTTP POST..

2001-09-09 Thread ReDucTor

Ok,
   Let me explain my situation...

  I am trying to make an autoresponder, I want to make it in PHP, I am using
qmail, so in PHP what i was hoping to do was read STDIN, and put in my
.qmail the path to php, then the script, but I don't know where php is
located on the server(not my server, i've tried the common paths, they don't
respond to emails), so now what i have done is made a perl script, that go's
to the url of the php script, but it doesn't appear to work reading stdin
from there, so now what i am wanting to do is capture stdin in the perl
script, then POST it into the PHP script...here is what I have in the perl
script so far...

#!/usr/bin/perl
use IO::Socket;
$host = "www.domain.com";
$EOL = "\015\012";
$BLANK = $EOL x 2;
$document = "autoresponder.php";
$remote = IO::Socket::INET->new( Proto => "tcp",
 PeerAddr  => $host,
 PeerPort  => "http(80)",
);
$remote->autoflush(1);
print $remote "GET http://$host/$document HTTP/1.1". $EOL;
print $remote "HOST: ". $host. $BLANK;
while ( <$remote> ) {  }
close $remote;

BTW I have been looking at RFC 2616 informatino, but Havn't managed to find
anything...

When this particular app that watches the modem is started, could you add
something (like perhaps tee) to the startup command to direct the output
of the app to your script as well as stdout (and/or stderror)?

Q: Which Chuck Berry song ranked the highest in the
   USA charts in the1950s?

   See below for answer.

**

2.   COOL NEW VIDEO TITLES

Here's some of our newest video acquisitions. A rockin'
variety of rare TV shows, shorts & soundies and 1950s
teen movies. You'll find these and more on our website.
http://www.thevideobeat.com/new_titles.htm

VINCE TAYLOR PROMO SHORTS 1960s
Totally awesome rock and roll by Vince Taylor and His Playboys.
Songs include: "Twenty Flight Rock," "Trouble," "What'd I Say,"
"Sweet Little Sixteen," "Long Tall Sally," "Baby, Let's Play House,"
"Shakin' All Over," "Whole Lotta Twisting." Many more.

SWINGING TOGETHER 1962
Television pilot. Bobby Rydell. A teenage rock n roll band
(Bobby Day and His Four Knights) on the road in a tour bus playing
one-night stands on their way to fame. Stars Bobby Rydell, James
Dunn and Stephanie Powers (Girl From U.N.C.L.E.). Great twist
and rock n roll songs! DesiLu production.

PARTY TIME 1959
Fantastic St. Louis, MO rock and roll teen music TV show
with Ike Turner and "The Boys" as the house rock n roll band!
This episode features the National Rock and Roll Championship
for Jitterbug dancing! So, it looks like this: a white host, all white
teenagers and an all-black R&B band wailing on the following
tunes: "I know You Don't Love Me," "Rock and Roll Cha Cha
Cha," "So Fine," "Splish Splash," "Charley Brown" and others.
Very low tech but incredible 1950s charm and great music!

CALYPSO HEATWAVE 1957
Teen Movie. A jukebox tycoon forces his way into a record
company. This angers the label's biggest star, who doesn't want to
change his style. He disappears and so does the company's profits.
A once-in-a-lifetime cast includes song and dance man Joel Grey,
Maya Angelou -- later a famous poet, Darla Hood of Little Rascals
fame, actor Alan Arkin who was a member of The Tarriers, and the
fabulous rockin' Treniers who wail on "Rock Joe" and "Day Old
Bread and Canned Beans."

BOB WILLS & THE TEXAS PLAYBOYS 1950s
Rare collection of film shorts and soundies features Bob and the
boys doing virtually all their big hits. Plus, a super rare half-hour
kinescope from the mid-50's of a local Dallas TV show, "Music
Country Style," in which Bob & the boys are guests! Wall-to-wall
western swing!

RAG DOLL (a.k.a. YOUNG, WILLING AND EAGER) 1958
Awesome U.K. JD movie. A young girl hitchhikes to London and
becomes a waitress. Her boss makes sexual advances, which she
rejects. She puts the moves on a singer who gets her pregnant and
burglarizes her boss's home. The boss awakens during the theft and
shoots the singer. The wounded singer retaliates and kills the boss,
steals a car, kidnaps his wife, and flees with the police in hot pursuit.
But wait, the ending is a total shocker!

For more new titles, please go to:
http://www.thevideobeat.com/new_titles.htm

 TRIVIA ANSWER **

Q: Which Chuck Berry song ranked the highest in the
   USA charts in the1950s?

A: "Sweet Little Sixteen" reached the Number 2 position
in February 1958 and stayed there for three weeks.
It wasn't until September 1972 that Chuck scored a
Number 1 hit with, "My Ding-A-Ling," proving that
there's no correlation between the charts and good music.

Well, don't code so stupidly then... Instead of you stupidly echo'ing each and
everything directly, better assign it to a variable, let's say $return. Then you can
easily do:

[PHP] time in annother zone

2001-09-09 Thread Justin French

Greetings,

I've been to the online manual relating to both date() and time(), and
i've read all the user-added notes, and i'm actually MORE confused now
than I was before I started!!

My ISP is based in Ontario, Canada. Myself, and 90% of my users are
based in Australia (Sydney/Melbourne time).

I'm trying to show what time a post was added to a message board. It's
easy enough using date(), but it shows the server's local time (of
course), not the current time in Australia.

Now, I could easily find out how many seconds behind the ISP is, and
minus it from the unix timestamp, but I'm thinking there has to be an
easier way :)

eg:

",time() - $secondsDifference);

?>

it could be setlocale(), or something else, i'm just not sure what to
make of it all.

Many thanks in advance,

Justin French

[PHP] ClipPDF versus PDFlib

2001-09-09 Thread Richard Lynch

I want to mess around with PDF stuff.

Can I install both ClipPDF and PDFlib and use them or will they conflict?

Anybody have any comments on one being better than another?

Or do I need both and I'm just being stupid?

Stefan, did you check your open_basedir and/or error_reporting settings in
php.ini and apache config? What are the errors?

Just because something worked before but doesn't now, doesn't mean it's a
bug in php. It's often because of default settings being different from the
settings you had before upgrade. That's not to say there can't be a bug in
php of course, but just jumping to that conclusion (apparently right away)
is silly.

You can probably help everyone by checking your side of things thouroughly
first, and then when you do report problems, provide more info.

This is a mysql problem, not PHP. Try

The output of this was empty, so I guess i'm missing something, and the
getenv() page didn't shed any light on it.

[PHP] mail() ERROR - WHY, WHY, WHY

2001-09-09 Thread Badger

Hello ,

I drowing here and need a life-ring! I have a site relying heavily on
e-mail registration, forums, etc. and mail() is broken in my php
install. I've been using an smtp server other than sendmail, but
based on recommendations I have removed that smtp server, removed php,
installed sendmail, reinstalled php, and php still complains that
"Warning: mail() is not supported in this PHP build" and sendmail is
clearly in my /var/lib/php.ini sendmail_path and the location is
correct. I can send mail from the command line, but not via php's
mail()

Need Heelp! real bad.

(beg, beg)

[PHP] Searching for text in a file

2001-09-09 Thread Richard Kurth

I am having a problem with searching through a file for a curtain
  text. Like the text below [EMAIL PROTECTED] does not exists in the file
  but when I run this it gives me a Match at line number.
  I need to run three or four names at a time through this script
  to see if they are already there. But it does not seam to work.
  And I can not figure out way. A small sample of the file is below.

$fd = fopen ("virtusertable", "r");
$line_text= "[EMAIL PROTECTED]";
   $count = 1;
while ($line_text = fgets($fd, 2048)) {
if ($variable = trim($line_text)) {
   echo "Match at line number $count";
break;
}
++$count;
}
