2008-11-06 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hello Everyone,

I am sure those of you who were at PHPCamp this year, would remember all
'Openscoial' presentations. As some of us did not had enough of it, so we
decided to organize 'Opensocial Developer Garage' for like minded people on

So if you want to be part of it, get over to
http://developergarage.in/register/ and register yourself , and remember

We are also looking for sponsors so that we can provide lunch, tea, T-shirts
and notepads to participants. We would love to explore possibilities of
myspace sponsoring this event or a part of it.
Take a look at http://developergarage.in/sponsors/
Budgets are listed here http://developergarage.in/sponsors/budgets/

I would suggest gftp if you want a good tool but ideally i think you

[PLUG] [OT] PHP Mysql Query

2007-08-04 Thread Rohan Dighe
Well,

Actually i am stuck at a point in php

this is the string that i have:-
set('punjabi','chinese','italian','thai','southindian','gujarati','jain','maharashtrian','pakistani','pizza','dhaba','sindhi','continental')

now i have 2 queries:-

1) How do i remove or cut some characters of the string.. like in the
above case i want to remove set( and from the tail of the above
string i want to chop off ) . i scrolled throught the string
functions but i am unable to do so..

i even tried replace for set( with space and then trim but it
did not work !

2) after the above has been done i want to convert it to array, i
have written the function myself

function csv2array($str) {
$str = trim($str);
$str = preg_replace('/(\s*,\s*)+/', ',', $str);
$array = explode(,, $str);
return $array;
}

and it works nicely ! is there any automatic way of doing csv to array?

my IDE gives me this function str_getcsv() but it does not work..
It says:-
Fatal error: Call to undefined function str_getcsv()
please suggest some alternative.

Now, as far as Mysql is concerned:-

It's a problem regarding Mysql set datatype:-

 CREATE TABLE set_test(
rowid INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
myset SET('Travel','Sports','Dancing','Fine Dining')
  );

  INSERT INTO set_test(myset) VALUES('Travel,Sports');
  INSERT INTO set_test(myset) VALUES('Travel,Sports,Dancing');

Problem:-
what i want to do is select distinct myset entries...like in the above case
i want my output to be

Travel
Sports
Dancing
when i run some select query !

So, you see that Fine Dining exists in the original set but i am not
using it so i want to show only the used myset values.

In read the mysql documentation but it does not give a clear
indication. Well, the other thing that i tried and worked was say

SELECT * FROM set_test WHERE myset = 'Travel,Sports';

then it works.. or even this works

SELECT * FROM set_test WHERE myset LIKE '%Travel%Sports%';

i just want to have distinct among my resultset.

Hope i have stated my problem clearly.

Link to mysql set datatype just for convenience.
http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/mysql-set-datatype.html

I will be very thankful for any advice.

Think of NEO and the Kung Fu program in The Matrix. It all starts here !!

[PLUG] Minutes of Meeting (MoM)

2007-07-08 Thread Rohan Dighe

PLUG,

well i had this idea for quite a long time, let me present it to you..

After every plug meeting someone who was present at the meeting should
document what happened at the meeting and post that email to the
list... what will happen is people who could not come for the meeting
could get a view of what took place.

Like the meeting yesterday, there was going to be a talk on MASHUP.. i
could not attend the meeting but i am really curious about the whole
event..and will be very glad to help in every way possible, so if
there had been a MoM email i would have been upto date.

Well, it's also that some people really follow email and i think it
would be a great idea if we could introduce some thing like this !!

Everyone please let me know what you think about the minutes of
meeting idea.

[PLUG] Fedora 7 Launched !!

2007-05-31 Thread Rohan Dighe

Hey,

Great News for all you fedora enthusiasts out there !!!

Fedora 7, the latest and arguably most ambitious release from the
increasingly community-friendly Fedora Project, has hit the download
mirrors. With its installable live CDs, merged package
repositories and much improved artwork, the new Fedora should prove a
major attraction

http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20070528#feature

Fedora 7 comes along with a pretty impressive set of changes - however,
the average user will not see most of them... All over all, from the
user point of view an evolutionary but very useful step to a new version
of Fedora

http://liquidat.wordpress.com/2007/05/27/fedora-7-moonshine-first-impressions/

Check Out what's new in Fedora 7, yup the new version is called FEDORA
7 and not FEDORA CORE 7 !!!

Re: [PLUG] [OT] S-Video to Composite adapter cable

2007-05-29 Thread Rohan Dighe

I am looking for an adapter cable to connect S Video out of laptop to
Composite video in of TV.

I have figured out (by inserting wires in video out and connecting manually to
TV's RCA jack etc) that there is no composite signal readily available in the
S-Video out of the laptop. The luminance and chroma are available separately.
If I just short these two I get the correct picture on TV.

From web search I figure out that a simple capacitor coupling is required
between these two signals to get composite video out. Hence what it requires
is not just cable but an adapter with a small circuit built in.

Well,

I am surprised to hear that you are not able to get an S-Video to
COMPOSITE cable in pune... let me give u an address

go to BABU GAMES near NISHANT THEATRE in camp.
i am sure that he will have that cable.. this guy repairs all ps2/ps3

If not the cable atleast he can help you with the stuff that you need.

his phone no is 9422025136 in case you need to call him.
i do all these kind of things.. I watch movies daily using the same
cable that you are saying. but S-VIDEO to S-VIDEO cable is much better
clarity wise..

i got the cables from singapore but you can try you will surely get it
here... if not then mail me back i will tell u the location in mumbai.

Hey,

I am posting an indepth tutorial... Hope this helps

Add support for other repositories Fedora comes with a ton of software
but there are still plenty of packages of interest to most users that
are not included for a variety of reasons. This is where you find the
MP3 plug-in and a ton of other packages. Yum is now the preferred
update format, however the handy RHN icon on the GNOME task bar that I
like (but nobody else does) still seems to be tied to the old RHN
method using up2date.

Before you add repositories it's probably a good idea to make sure
your system is fully updated first. It's still early but right now the
Livna and freshrpms repositories seems to be the most useful. The
easiest way to get started is to install the freshrpms-release
packages:

# rpm -ihv http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/5/i386/livna-release-5-8.noarch.rpm
# rpm -ihv
http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/5/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm

Install MP3 Plug-in

Since you've been following along this next step is about as easy as
it gets. Just use yum to automatically install the MP3 plug-ins for
xmms and Rhythmbox like this:

# yum -y install xmms-mp3 xmms-faad2 gstreamer-plugins-ugly libmad libid3tag

While you're here you might as well install my personal favorite (this
week at least) music player Banshee:
# yum -y install banshee

The -y flag is to automatically answer yes to any question. If you
want to be able to say no you can ignore that flag.

While you're there I highly recommend the grip CD ripper which
supports both MP3 and Ogg formats. Once again installation is quite
simple:
# yum -y install grip

Install DVD player

Currently I find the DVD player that works best is the Xine Multimedia
Player which is found in the Livna repository so installing it is just
this simple:
# yum -y install xine xine-lib xine-skins

This will install the xine DVD/VCD/CD player. Now to get xine to
automatically play a DVD upon insertion instead of the Totem player
which can't actually play DVDs, go to the System - Preferences -
Removable Drives and Media. Once that comes up select Multimedia Make
sure Video DVD Discs is turned on and put in the following for the
command: xine --auto-play --auto-scan dvd

Install VLC (VideoLAN Client)

Multimedia can be the achilles heel of Linux, but with just a little
work you should be able to play just about anything your friends can.
Besides Mplayer the other great video player is called VLC. It too is
trivially easy to install once you have your repositories set up:

# yum -y install videolan-client

Once the client and a zillion dependencies get installed you can play
a huge variety of video formats easy with the command vlc

Well, i would be glad to answer your queries !

First of all i would like to know if you have seen similar softwares
which exist ??

If not, i would suggest you go to sf.net and take a look at some of
the projects of similar type! you will get a deep understanding abt
how to read the devices.etc

As far as QT is concerned it has its base completely on c++ and and is
really a very good library.

1.Can anyone explain How to work in Qt Designer?

Now, this is really a difficult question to answer through email ! to
tell you in short Qt designer is basically a gui enabled tool for
developing applications on QT
say a small example could be
you wanted to build a calculator, so QT gives you all the calls for
inserting buttons and textboxes, etc. but you have to write code for
everything !

If you use QT designer you will have to just drag and drop on to the
application and then just write the main logic in the code section !!

it is as simple as that !

i would highly recomend you to read the QT HELP which is in Fedora, it
is really very good and there are also examples !

2.We have a doubt regarding signals and slots.we are referring -Programming
With QT O'Reilly Publications.Dalbemer M.

Well, if you could highlight more clearly what doubts you have i would
be glad to explain! If it's that you did not understand the whole
concept itself, again i would sugggest you read the QT help in fedora
or on the website !

3.What all things are in built in Qt Designer?

Well, almost all the things that QT library provides is there in QT
designer, considering your application all the things that you need
will be there so you don't have to worry about that !

i mean you can build full fledge applications like kolor, kcalc etc..
those are simple ones but you can learn from them !!

4.How to read proc filesystem using Qt, and How to retrieve proc details in
richtext Box?

Well, first try to use normal c++ and try to do that !!!
I would highly suggest you take help of someone's program if you have
no prior experience.. !!

At last only one suggestion don't directly jump to QT designer, you
have to learn the basic philosophy and how QT works only then it
would be easy 4 u !

Re: [PLUG] Gnunify 07?

2006-12-05 Thread Rohan Dighe

This sounds like a brilliant idea, useful as well as practical, but my only
point of concern is how many of the college profs would look at this as a
genuine project, cos they need to be convinced first. Also many students try
to pick project with ready things and try to get away with no work, can
there be an authority to judge the contribution of the students.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
imagination is more important then knowledge
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Well, if you see some of the HelpWanted pages usually you have stuff
like a Tracking system to be developed or some other repository
management system or some other kind of stuff, maybe writing some
specialized device driver stuff or something similar to that !!

AFAIK college professors won't have a problem, the problem is about CHOICE
see you are going to write the same code, the only difference bieng is
THE IDEA

so if the idea is good you can very easily convice some of the prof
and hopefully your problem is solved.

Also HelpWanted pages are not the only source of doing something in
GNU/LINUX or Opensource

Lets say you like to develop some additional voice recognition module
for EVOLUTION. so the emphasis is mainly on IDEA !!!

Also many students try
to pick project with ready things and try to get away with no work, can
there be an authority to judge the contribution of the students.

Well, that actually depends on how they look at computer science, see
there are numerous ways in which we can do things, but the choice
again is TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY. see you can steal a piece of code
and solve an assignment but then somewhere later down the line you
would have to pay for that !!! So for those who really wanna learn and
understand new technology, new features i really don't see any
hindrance.

well as far as the judging is concerned, see the point is if you are
developing even 20 lines of code and it is bieng used by 1 million
people (the judging does not even come into picture). See software
should be something that WORKS !!! So, if 1 million people use it, the
joy is more than that of your professor giving you 80% in your
termwork ?? huh ??

So i conclude with contributions happens primarily due to choice

thank you !

Well,
as far as the past conferences that i have attended(linuxasia06

event mainly college students and these conferences usually have a
track structure!! (business track, development track, etc)

what was found missing was a (newbie track !!!)

so i would like to suggest an addition of newbie track inside gnunify
(i have not been to past gnunify events but if it's not included i
would suggest an inclusion)

Also, some of the talks that could be targetted towards newbies would be

how to earn money while making your code OPEN??

how to just do about everything with LINUX ??

effective programming using gcc !

some of the burning questions like
how to dive into opensource development/ how to contribute to gloabal
opensource community and stuff like that

I have mainly seen at student level, usually they go onn building the
same projects during their academics like (student registration
system, library system, hotel mgmt system) instead if they could get
on to some real work like say
contributing to some linux distributions say Fedora, Ubuntu... or say
Mozilla. Usually all these websites have a HelpWanted page !
Contribution in that manner would be a lot more helpful to them as
well as US !!

Well, these were some of the things that i found worth talking about !!

Re: [PLUG] dd command for removable drive

BTW, wondering why is Rohan using sda1 when dd requires only
device name in the output without any mount.

Well usually when i mount my USB drives in linux i usually use sda1 to
refer to the pen drive and so i used sda1 there !

Well, actually what will happen if the USB drive is mounted ?
does DD give any warnings regarding that?

I wanna find out the reason why it cleared all partition tables!
What it did was, it wrote a new image about 5 MB on the harddisk that
i have and then there was no chance of doing (dmesg) because the whole
system had already gone down !

Well, if anyone could find out the reason behind this!

the recovery software. Primary partitions cannot be recovered.

[PLUG] dd command for removable drive

2006-10-02 Thread Rohan Dighe

Inline reponses follow:-

Yes it can be when you have sata disks which are sd* because of scsi
emulation of sata. AFAIK, when you use dd the device should be
umounted. Can you tell more about the scenario when your partition
table crashed?

I don't have any of the SATA disks. I had inserted my pen drive into
USB2 slot and used this command, in sec's it crashed my entire
partition table, i had 120Gb of important data on that.
This is the command i had given

dd if=diskboot.img of=/dev/device (device=sda1)

| Please avoid using this technique as far as possible

Well, only thing i wanted to say was BE CAREFUL while using this command.

[PLUG] Day 3 : LINUXASIA2k6... Oh ! man it's over

2006-02-15 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hey,

I have to say today is like 11th of FEB, when i woke up in the
morning i found that i did not have to catch a rickshaw to go to India
Habitat Centre. Really all the 3 day fun has finally come to an end
but with a note that they would be back next year, with a lot more
people and lot more to say.
So i guess i will continue with my work.
read onn...

DAY 3
I woke up sharp i was at the occassion before time coz i did not
want to miss the talk by DaviD AxmarK (Co-founder MySQL) which in turn
started very late and messed up the whole day's schedule.
The reason for the late schedule was the day before there was the
penguin party and then everyone got late and things happened...
So,
The talk basically
He was talking about Mysql 5.0 and what advancements it has in it's
latest versions and stuff like that.
Then the addition of procedures and triggers and indexes and all cool
stuff. As i want to learn Mysql soon i asked him a lot of questions in
regard to that. I also got a chance to take a picture with him which
was indeed very very cool for me !!!
Some of the questions that i asked was...
How would someone go about in learning MySQL ??
What about documentation and stuff ?
How many people use it currently ?

I was like surprised to hear it is powering so many of the best
websites and enterprises in the industry.Really much motivated by the
talk

Then came the IBM people (Mary Ann Fisher) she was talking of what IBM
does in opensource. IBM basically supports REDHAT SUSE and then how
they used the OS's to get their work done.
Then she talked about patents and stuff and then how IBM is the
highest patent holders in this world and they certainly donate some of
the patents for open source...
But the talk was gr8 !!!
Next was the tea break which was like really refreshing for me coz i
came early that day !!

Then i decided to attend one of the workshops by IBM which were
related to DB2,WebSphere. They provided with the dvd's and a 2kg
manual which i did not take but it was really cool, they were showing
and it was also a hands-on, on how to go about installing db2 and
websphere on linux redhat enterprise and also suse... Some of the
people were also learning how to install LINUX ES which was really
good work done by them. The room was quite big and accompanied quite a
few people.

Then again the next talk was one of my favourites guess who ???
...yeah KLAUS KNOPPER he talked on secrets of a LIVE DISTRO which i
found very interesting coz he really got into technical very fast and
then showing us which script does what and how do you modify and
really shed light on the x server concept and what parameters and
alterations they had to do to get the server running. Again he showed
us various scripts and then it was really a very good talk!!!

You know by now i am really a very big FAN of KLAUS he is such a
helpful person..you go to him with a question he always has a right
answer for that, he has a very sensible talk and you don't find any
compulsion with him as you would do with the IBM guys or someone
else...
I guess this is because he himself has come up with the OS and then he
is very happy about it and ready to help anyone in his way.
To tell you some fact i would have talked to KLAUS abt 2 hrs in this
whole 3 days ! Just imagine someone from IBM giving you so much time
to talk abt the problems or solutions you have.

Then came the Naukri.com guys they were really talking abt their
servers and how they had to scale as the work began and how many
read's and write's that had and stuff.. Well, not interesting for
someone who is not into this stuff so many people left.

Next were the Codito people, this guy was looking really
knowledgeable and he was saying many hardcore things abt
optimatizations and vectorization. Since i studied compilers a little
bit i was getting some things but to other people i think the talk was
a little bit tangent !
Then tere was the most beautiful lunch ! I have to say the India
Habitat Centre food is really really gr8 ! I used to like wait for the
next break always !!

Really after a very nice lunch was the most sort after talk abt Women
in Open Source which was really good to hear and talk to people.
Danese Cooper was there and she really took the talk nicely along with
everyone. They basically focused on the Open Source work environment
and how it was fruitful for women and things !

Then was a keynote from V. Ponraj someone from President's Office and
was really talking abt how technology is getting penetrated in INDIA
and future plans and grids that they are setting up and some of the
plans have a 100$ PC to every school kid and things...
Then came the Apache Guru Brian Behlendorf, again he showed us some
great things and how he gets inspirations and stuff and how 2 guys
came together and built MySQL !!!

Finally, there was an ending keynote from Danese Cooper, which really
opened my eyes ! She was talking

[PLUG] LINUXASIA2k6 it's happening.....DAY 1

2006-02-10 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hey People,

Hope you remember me, not too much time off the mailing list. Well
LinuxAsia2k6 is the place to be guys n gals.
Seriously, i believe you are wasting your time sitting at home when i say this.
Anyways,
Those who were willing to come but due to some reason failed to do
so, here is a glimpse of the so called DAY1 linux2k6.

As usual i got up late so missed the lamp lighting ceremony, which i
guess was just glowing a lampnothing else really. Then there was
an Opening Keynote by Mr. Deepak Phatak (KReSIT,IIT BOMBAY)
man.what a talk our mind was like continously grasping and
grasping and like really overflowing with the talk. Super
inspirational talk. I haven't heard a talk like that in almost years
now i guess.Well, he was basically talking abt the in general open
source model and then his EKLAVYA model and what is happening in the
country and stuff like that.
Basically, it was like a brain storming session.

Then came like the Oracle people someone named Seema Ambastha (Senior
manage, ORACLE) she was like telling the crowd abt how oracle has
shifted like total stuff to linux and they have now 60% integration on
the same and like even @ oracle they use LINUX and then they have
standardised a linux model for oracle and they themseleves in the
company actually used LINUX machines and stuff like that.
She was like talking all abt migration and stuff and i was like.ok
stuff is cool but i gotta keep myself out of oracle for a while and
focus on what i was here for so finally the talk ended making a way
for MARK MANNERS (HP guy) i liked his talk too.don't remember in
depth but everyone uptil now was talking and like super promoting
stuff and by saying our company does this and our company has product
for that.

You know one thing i noticed through the whole thing was these guys
were using Micro$oft's xp m/c's and i was really freaked out seeing
this. It's like you are selling something you don't wanna use !!
pathetic really in my vision.
But i guess in business you don't really have to you know think, they
were just oracle and hp people it's tolerable !

Then came Mr. Javed Tapia (who used a KDE finally) (REDHAT INDIAN
SUBCONTINENT,PRESIDENT) good speach really told us the whole story of
how 6 people came to Nariman Point and they had all this idea in mind
and then slowly they had plans for integration and it finally worked
out pretty nicely. Redhat's plans and stuff like that. Very good
speach i must say !
This all stuff took place in a large auditorium.

The Next sections were like tracks say the
INDUSTRY SESSIONS
DESKTOP FORUM
TECNOLOGY FORUM
ORACLE LINUX DEVELOPER CAMP

i choose the TECHNOLOGY CAMP !!!.simply coz the speakers were
really whom i wanted to listen to.
Anyone who might have the schedule with him would be quite easily
getting what tracks i am talking about coz it's really really
difficult to jot down everyting.anyways, lets get on track.

First, Google's Summer of Code (Zaheda Bhorat) ultimate lecture
really opened our minds abt the various type of ways which we can
contribute to open source and also how event was organized by google
and then total analysis. This thought will open your minds no one was
there from MAHARASHTRA forget PUNE.
They showed like real stastics how many people were mentors and how
they shared info and how 400 people 40 projects really took place
where, how, when stuff...
Really a missed opportunity to hear Zahedashe's an excellent
speaker must say !
We have to have a discussion with Zaheda tommorow so let seei have
many things to ask !

She set stage for one of the person's whom i came to Delhi he is none
other than.
Dr.Bebo White (STANFORD UNIV)
he gave a talk on Web 2.0 and really you shld see this guy speaking i
mean so much enthusiasm and really explaining every bit of what's
happening this BLOG, WIKI, stuff really awesome knowledge
therepretty impressive !
i will write in depth abt bebo coz like i have the whole speech
recorded right in my brainhmmm !! it's all there people !

Then was one of my favourite Klaus Knopper (knoppix)
guess what the topic was (The Future of LInux Desktop)
This guy is like a total super coder, super speaker and really a nice
man to speak with !
I had a chat with him for almost 1 1/2 hr or so and was really gr8,
i was asking him abt all sort's of questions related to stuff like his
lab ! and whom he works with ? What all does he do to make a distro ?
How he started ? Whom he looks upto ? and stuff
I will maybe write abt him l8r coz i have to really plan the schedule
for tomorow !

Then was like Interoperability of desktop by prakash advani (NOVELL)
his' message was really short and sweet and was talking abt wine and
stuff and why interoperability and needed and stuff like that.
then after that there was a hot discussion on:-
OPEN STANDARDS AND OPEN SOURCE: TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN !
all * people were there Danese Cooper

[PLUG] DAY 2: LInuxASIA2k6

2006-02-10 Thread Rohan Dighe
People,
Day II read ONN. Don't be a bit disappointed if you are not a fedora
user coz i was on the fedora track today and really did not go to any
other sessions at all, so i guess i will write abt that, but maybe
someone else can talk about it !
Well the first one was like the Welcome Agenda (Venky Hariharan, Red
Hat
Alolita Sharma, Technetra) really i missed this one got their late but
they mainly talked abt what fedora is and what is to follow and how
much contribution and stuff like that so maybe it was worth bunking
coz i already use FEDORA like every version of it, so i know what
exactly has been happening in the fedora community.

The next one was All About Fedora (Greg DeKoenigsberg,Red Hat ) this
one was too inspirational for me, you know to share my experience, i
was you know thinking like maybe if i could have a laptop i would have
started coding right away ! you can just visualize what impact he had
on people. Really this was the most effective and proper way open
source is and how fedora community is. I hope no one spoke better than
him for the whole day his' style was like worth seeing. I was
feeling like i am listening to some Richard Stallman, really i mean so
much enthu and stuff..really a missed talk.

Then came Fedora Desktop Roadmap (Christopher Blizzard,Red Hat) he
was like telling us what would be there in FC5 you know they
actually have a stall which shows FC5 live and running it's in alpha
testing still but you know, just the look and feel of it is so cool i
felt like using it right away so i did it on their machines. The
release would be somewhere in starting of march. He really talked abt
various applications, multimedia, internet and stuff and how what is
going to be there and CODECS and stuff.

THen was the turn for The Developer Community and OSS in India
(Kishore Bhargava) he was like showing us slides like who are the real
contributors from IN and talked abt delhi's ILUG and the usual OPENSRC
what is and how's it penetrated in IN !

Community Plumbing: How to Contribute to Fedora (Sankarshan
Mukhopadhyay,Red Hat) this talk was really a useful one 2 me coz i
really wanted to join someone i did not know how so this was the
thing for me. They talked a lot about bugzilla and how the people
contributed and sucess stories of the same, but basically it was cool.

After an awesome lunch, it was my fav. man...yeah u almost have
guessed it by yesterday's mail

Conference Keynote
Klaus Knopper
Creator, Knoppix
NXT 100 YRS of linux

this was a very good talk and we had very good jokes and laughter
during this session. Klaus is really a cool person. He was talking
like futuristic stuff and what is going to happen and had quite a few
controversial issues but those can be neglected. Basically he started
from the ground up like what software actually is ? and then went
slowly upto the future vision and stuff.
He then had a talk abt patents and stuff, again one of my personal favourites.

then came
MySQL and Fedora: A Developer's Overview
Colin Charles
MySQL AB

He was talking abt MySQL and how it has come all this way to version
5.0 and then fedora is shipping it with FC5 by default and then we had
a sort of cool QA section. He distributed some t-shirts and then it
was really cool ! the atmosphere was really carged up, especially
after lunch !

Then, i took a break, the middle lectures were not of my type so i
spent time somewhere else.

Next was:
Bug Zapping: Testing Triaging
Rahul Sundaram
Red Hat

He was talking abt how do people report bugs and then how fedora
people get back to them, really got lot of info what's working behind
the glass and then finalized with a few website names to visit.

Then there was the most sort after

BoF Session
Community Contributions
Greg DeKoenigsberg
Christopher Blizzard
Satish Mohan
Red Hat

This is the main thing abt fedora or redhat they have these sessions
like an open talk where we gave many suggestions to them and they
indeed suggested a few things to us

PACK UP !!!

there was a PENGUIN PARTY but it was only for CEO's and stuff so i
came home after talking to a few people...

Tomorow is the final day
I almost forgot i won a lot of cap's today and also some gift's from
IBM and LALTOPI so i am very happy for that. You know you feel like oh
! yeah !i got something ! ye...

I guess i have to leave right now...
ttyl
waiting for tom's talk by DAVID AXMARK and DANESE COOPER and big names...
Final closing mail session tom.gotta go bye

[PLUG] Mp3 player on linux

2006-01-10 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hello All

Actually i wanted a slight suggestion. I am using FC4 with KDE and as
we all know there is not mp3 support available in fc4.

I downloaded xmms player but it needs glib library. I tried
downloading 2-3 players but most of them needed this library.

I wanted to know which is the easiest player to install and has very
less dependencies. (KDE in mind)

I can't find any information on their website. I've been using this script

 /usr/bin/perl dataone.pl

to determine how much free and how much paid usage I am accumulating per
month and it was giving a listing of both and the total combined. Now all
that is listed is the total usage. When I use their webpage (using
internet explorer in wine) it also only lists totals. Gustav

as i see it the download is still free for plans above home 500 so if

Re: [PLUG] Need some help.

2005-08-24 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hi !!!

I have done a lot of installation for net based cyber cafe's before.
As far as the cost is concerned you just need the pc's and the hub to
be honest and also not to forget the cat5 cables that's it !

As far as the distro is concerned you can pick anyone say FC4 which is
good or mandrake or anything else.

You just have to install the distro on each of the machines and just
put the ip's and stuff nothin else is required to be done...

actually i would have taken you to the cafe but it's in bombay so i
guess i can tell you the stuff required if any.

anyways,
chal bye

PS:- I promise you that speed deduction is not there of any sort.
Major important thing is that on what connection you are depending
ie. are you buying Dataone/sify dial up what ?

No I meant all my data transfers up or down (ISOs, streaming,
whatever), when I said downloads... won't there be a problem like
you need to log out and log back in (or turn off and on your modem)
between 2am and 8am else BSNL wont consider it as you NU usage?

I'm sure we can set up some script to PPP (oE) dial in at just after
2am and disconnect at just before 8am and also do the download
scheduler thing... but got to be careful that BSNL doesnt consider
just the modem being powered-on to mean that you're connected then I
would have to be awake to power it on/off 8-)

It would be so cool if BSNL (and other ISPs) WOULD (but i bet they
COULDN'T or wouldn't) just set a checkpoint (stop and start) their
data-transfer meters at 2am and 8am so us customers would just need to
schedule downloads at night and they know how much data you took
during the NU time and how much from your regular quota 8-)

yeah the modem can remail ON all the time
they won't charge u for your modem bieng enabled

the have log in and log out time only and in between that time only
download and uploads are counted

have u not seen the details of your internet usage anytime

they do have a separator they simply enable all the connections and
don't charge any upload download during that time period or during
that day

i have used such type of things before

don't worry !!!

ok i don't know why u are asking this question when u can check tariff
online but still the modem cost is 2000 if u plan to buy one time

the installation cost is 250 now, before it was 500

and u have scheme of 256kbps connection it's called as HOME 500 plan
if u pay 5000 once for whole year or 550 monthly

the service is quite good
i am using this from launch 1st day !!

uptil now it's just had problems 4-5 times that too server was shut down

1gb is download limit/ month

u have 2 pay 2rs/mb for any additional download
ie 1gb=download+upload(total bandwidth)

if u have any doubt check http://www.bsnl.co.in
in servicedataonetariff

u can also call me if u want detailed info
my no is 9890230250

PS:- they have many plans u can check web i would suggest u to look at sify too
http://www.sifybroadband.com

also try to read the suggestion that i have replied related to dataone

Re: [PLUG] 2 suggestions PLUG members

2005-08-10 Thread Rohan Dighe
People are absolutely free to talk about almost anything related to
FS/OS ( free s/w, OSS) in the PLUG meetings. Normally, I put up a mail
well in advance, asking people to suggest topics for discussions.
Somehow, hardly any suggestions come up. If you feel a need for
something to be discussed which newbies (and/or first timers) can
easily understand, please feel free to suggest. You can tell us
anytime during the month with a good enough time frame to co-ordinate
with others to talk in the meeting.

Thanks for your concern about the meeting and related activities

 -Sudhanwa

ps: Hey, I liked this linuxdominatrix I am an Asterix fan.
Probably, I can use Pluggix Co-ordinatrix below my name :-)

When did i say that i did not get things

was just trying to help the newbies, i will give an exampleI
if go to a swiming pool and jump in 20ft u are going to die if u don't
know how to swim same is the case here if u teach them how to make
rpm's without having a base it's not fruitful, so somehow wanting to
make their visit fruitful

I agree to this completely !!
In fct, PLUG meeting has
been a very good meeting point for people to share their thoughts,
resources (like CDs, books) and interacting with many other like
 minded people.

Like Desi Penguin has suggested we can do that too. i think it sounds
as a good idea it could be a mega event !

I was just wanting to ask one thing,
isn't there a facility to provide live demo or something like that ???

PS:- the rpm thing aditya taught was gr8 but was lacking a practical
demo. If he would have builded an rpm right in front of us it would
have been gr8.

[PLUG] 2 suggestions PLUG members

2005-08-09 Thread Rohan Dighe
Hey,

Isn't there a way so that all plug members could work to get a
messenger running so that there can be on the spot interaction !!
Please if there is some action taking place i would like to get into it !!

 Also,
As of Yesterday's meeting i feel that many of the 1st timers yesterday
were really struggling to get things into their head so i really think
we should review what people know and what they want to get in the
meeting ?

So, i think we should seriously think about getting feedback from the
very plug people themselves.Someone would collect the info and things
go accordingly

This thought came to my mind because every other month i get a mail
requesting ( any body would want to talk on something bla bla bla )
If we get a feedback there really is no need for this, coz topics
would get decided themselves !

regards,
(LDOM)

[PLUG] [PLUG} Linux Compatible ethernet Card

2005-08-09 Thread Rohan Dighe
Yeah, sure

I will give u a suggestion !
I bought Digi-Link, Digi-5700TX (10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter) for
Rs. 280.00 2days ago for my friend. I am using it for connecting to Dataone
since april without any problems on the same card. I have FC3 and
also tried mandrake 10.1 no problem with configuring

digi link comes with a floppy and it has linux drivers also with it !!

and Cellone is for mobile and dataone is for broadband be specific please

Ok, i usually buy stuff from POONAM Pimpri he is the main dealer here
also he has branch in pune so i can give u his no. This guy knows me
personally as i used to sell hardware and stuff

ok datacare is also quite cheap and i would also recommend BABA
COMPUTER SHOPPEE at sadhu vasvani chowk and also COMPUCITY is also
good

enquire everywhere and then only think of buying
if you want contact nos i have of everyone u can call me on this no if
u want any detailed info 9890230250

Datacare is quite reliable person but i would definately tell u to buy
from a place which is cheap coz network cards don't really have
anything

one more thing
INTEX card is also good it's for 200rs and there is also another
version of dlink it's for 380 it's some special version

bye
