I noticed I had lost Listen Again last Wednesday and saw that fixes were
already being posted. I knew I wouldn't have time to sort the problem
out until today and was dreading the idea of trawling back through the
plugin thread, so many thanks to castella for this summation.

And once again many thanks to everyone, especially bpa and

definitely have not made a mistake' is absolutely typical of the

There is a point updating the plugin. The vast majority of LMS uses are

Are you suggesting a plugin that works for some, or even most, but not
all users? Plugin developers have strived very hard to avoid such
solutions, and as I understand it there are still issues around ffmpeg
that haven't been resolved, and so people would still have to tinker in
a way that many find too difficult.

So please be patient. When people have enough spare free time to work
on it, and enough platforms to test on, in and out of the UK, more
generic plugin solutions may be forthcoming. It is, however, entirely
up to those developers when and if they choose to do such work, not up
to us low-skilled users. We should just be grateful they do anything at
ll.

I accept that the HLS live problem needs more work, probably quite a lot
more work. But that doesn't stop a plugin update to fix Listen Again,
everything doesn't have to be fixed at once. Fixing HLS could take
 months.

Forgive me for saying so, but I think you are missing the point. Nobody
disagrees with you. However, triode owns the code. It is his, nobody
else can amend the code. Nobody can demand any more from him, as he
has done everything so far for nothing, with no guarantees.

He has generously made the code available under the GPL license. So
what somebody can do is make another version of it, call it something
else, and amend the code. They then become the owner of that version.
Who are you demanding does that?

who combine interests in music, HiFi, and IT. We are not representative
of the big wide world but we know what we want in our homes/offices/dens

Some of us, you Owen, myself and others, have taken it upon ourselves to

we've taken it upon ourselves to continue helping them as best we can.
The BBC has just made that job a helluva lot harder and, as you may have
noticed, I have been quite outspoken about that. But you have to face up
to the fact that we are a minority sect with some dedicated volunteers
who have made Squeezebox into a much better media streaming system than
it ever was under Logitech, and the only system weathering the current
storm with any aplomb.

So you have to decide - do you continue with your unofficial obligations
to your colleagues with a system that works, albeit with regular
tweaking to cope with a changing world, or advise them to shift
towell what exactly? Do you see any alternatives around at the
moment that will give them what they're now accustomed to and they will
involve you with less hassle or expense??

Because your non-techie pals are more normal than us, they probably
already have lots of iThingies. And that's your solution.

I was looking at John Swenson's player before it got killed (twice),

prevailing attitudes and the current situation, I'll need to think
carefully about any future plans. Given what currently works, Sonos does
everything LMS does except for playing the handful of hi res files I
 have.

The BBC IPlayer plugin is a third party supplied plugin. I wasn't
referring to any wider point about LMS that you are referring to. (Nor
am I entirely sure why you are correlating the two)
So, to bring it back to the IPlayer plugin, its a bit of a sensitive
situation as it hasn't been officially declared unsupported by its
owner. So, I would suggest the current manually amending route is
probably the only way to go for a few more weeks until so one steps into
the breach and creates a brand new forked version

using my Freeview PVR to record my regular Radio 3 listening instead of
using Listen Again. This works for now, and sound quality is pretty good

Currently my LMS is reduced to playing local files, and I don't do a lot

I'm not having the buffering issue. I'm in the US. This morning I
listened to SiriusXM for over an hour (via transporter and Radio) and
all worked perfectly. I suspect there is a problem with the network
connection *between your LAN and the Radio*. Is the radio wifi
connected? What is the strength. Even if strength is good (say, 70%),
you could still have interference from other things on that WIFI

He has generously made the code available under the GPL license. So
what somebody can do is make another version of it, call it something

Who are you demanding does that?

I've written and published free open source software in the past and
I've supported it, for the RISC OS community. I don't need telling what
is involved in doing so.

I am not demanding anyone do anything. I'm trying to explain what is
needed to keep LMS alive for more than a handful of techies. It's not
really going in I can tell, either that or people like being in an ultra
small niche.

I was looking at John Swenson's player before it got killed (twice),
then I was considering squeeze2upnp to my Oppo 95 blu ray. But given
prevailing attitudes and the current situation, I'll need to think
carefully about any future plans. Given what currently works, Sonos does
everything LMS does except for playing the handful of hi res files I
have.

So please be patient. When people have enough spare free time to work
on it, and enough platforms to test on, in and out of the UK, more
generic plugin solutions may be forthcoming. It is, however, entirely
up to those developers when and if they choose to do such work, not up

I envisage an iPlayer plugin update that just gets Listen Again working
using RTMP. That appears to be quite simple, and covers a lot of use
cases (I've got several people at work that keep asking me when Listen
Again is going to be fixed, none of them use play live).

I accept that the HLS live problem needs more work, probably quite a lot
more work. But that doesn't stop a plugin update to fix Listen Again,
everything doesn't have to be fixed at once. Fixing HLS could take
months.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Smart Mix plugin

2015-03-15 Thread epoch1970

I wonder if someone with SB3s would be able to solve this puzzle: when
playing if I use the IR remote on SB3 and go in 'Smart Mix Options',
then select any option, such as 'Play more like this song', things do
not go as expected.
- If I press 'play' on the remote to activate the option displayed, I
get Now playing: Nothing, and the music stops.
- If I press the right arrow to activate the option (which seems the
better way), then the screen goes blank and nothing happens. Music
continues. The IR seems unresponsive, and the screen stays blank until
SwitchSaver (alternating song title and analog VU every 2 mins or so in
my case) restores both screen and IR operations.

*This is not specific to Smart Mix plugin*, I've just seen the same
trying to use the delicious Music, Walk With Me plugin.

Anyone having a clue about this ?

days or weeks but years. This means lots of time and effort not only to
develop and test (across multiple platforms) but also answer queries

Your work really is much appreciated by many, many, people.

One of the many difficulties plugin developers face is the sheer variety

astonishing that LMS and its dozens of plugins works as well as it does

headache.

This is well known and has been agreed.

I am not in the UK and patches are necessary to test if they works for
UK Listeners as well.

Updating a plugin is not just a simple job of merge patches - it implies
a willingness to be responsible for the plugin and this not for a few
days or weeks but years. This means lots of time and effort not only to
develop and test (across multiple platforms) but also answer queries
which is a huge consumer of time and free time is finite. It is only now
that Triode is absent do some users truly appreciate how much time and
effort he put in make the BBCiPlayer plugin always work and make it look
effortless.

I can live without a little graphic on Listen Again. I have a stream I
can listen to, and select where in the stream I want to be. That's got
us back to where we should be (hugely creditable in the absence of the
plugin author), and a significant amount further forward than many
internet radio users bearing in mind we were all screwed when the BBC
broke it.

I realise I'm in a techie minority who is able to follow instructions to
do this (as a VB user, without the Vortexbox forum I'd have been
knackered though).

I love all the metadata, interactive tracklistings etc on the BBC
Android app so I can work around getting pretty pictures and the like
using my tablet, but for listening live, the high quality 320kbps feeds
take precedence on my home system.

2015-03-15 Thread AkeTrak

Hi I started my trip with LMS by buying a max2play, maybe this question
should be asked elsewhere?

Anyway here it comes. I found how to sync two players with each other in
LMS but it does not seem to work with more than two players, is that
correct or am I doing something wrong?

If not possible, will the squeeze plugmax2play plug in do the trick?

Besides playing from my USB hard drive attached to a max2play device I
also use Spotify and it works fine with LMS and max2playl. I tried to
play two different songs from Spotify on two different squeezelite
players and first I was happy it worked but soon they started to skip
tracks in the beginning of the songs.
Is this due to the fact that Spotify don't like that you are playing
online with two players or is it possible to fix it?

Stream preferences show HLS MP3 FlashAAC FlashMP3, or HLS
MP3, or just HLS for both live and on demand.

Inability to force FlashAAC instead of HLS for Listen Again may mean
Radio 3 is reduced to 128kbps, so those with RTMP patched to work might
want to think twice about this if 320kbps Listen Again Radio 3 HD is
important to you.

javascript player code to decrypt (well unobfuscate) the signature. This
lets us fetch the raw data stream once again !

I've successfully played a number of youtube streams by Blur and
Creedence Clearwater Revival. Obviously not an exhaustive test, but it
shows enough signs of life that this is worth sharing for others to
try...

As mentioned in my previous posting, you need to install Mozilla::CA,
Net::SSLeay and IO::Socket::SSL from CPAN so that the plugin can deal
with https URLs from youtube. My ported signature code requires that
you install the JSON module too. So in addition to the instructions in
my previous post, also run this.

# cd /opt/ssods4/tmp
# wget
http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/M/MA/MAKAMAKA/JSON-2.90.tar.gz
# tar zxvf JSON-2.90.tar.gz
# cd JSON-2.90
# ../../bin/perl Makefile.PL
# make
# make install
# cd ..

I have bundled the updated plugin code into a zip file for convenience,
and attached it to this posting, as well as uploading it to

https://www.berrange.com/~dan/YouTube-html5player-v0.16.zip

So, recapping

First, install the youtube plugin on your slimserver normally

Second, make sure you have Mozilla::CA, Net::SSLeay, IO::Socket::SSL and
JSON modules installed from CPAN (see instructions above or README.txt
in my ZIP file)

Third, copy the ProtocolHandler.pm, Signature.pm and JSInterp.pm files
from my updated ZIP file into your slimserver plugin directory
(/opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/YouTube
on my QNap NAS), replacing the original ProtocolHandler.pm that came
with the youtube plugin

I hope this works for other people too - I'm very unlikely to have any
time to further hack on this myself if further problems are found, so
perhaps the original author who wrote the youtube plugin will see this
message and be able to integrate the changes into their officially
hosted plugin in some nicer manner.

Looking in the server log, as expected the Radio 3 HLS Listen Again is
128kbps AAC. A shame, and the new plugin doesn't have a way to prefer
RTMP/Flash for Listen Again.

Do we know why the BBC have disabled HLS Listen Again 320kbps AAC?

having R3 LA at 320kbps and who find the previous hacks are working fine
might prefer to hold off installing the new update to the plugin until
either it also provides 320kbps LA or until the existing hacks fail.

I think they'll coexist fine. PlayHLS/ffmpeg looks to be required to
play HLS streams outside Triode's BBCiPlayer or bpa's BBCiPlayerExtras -
for example by direct url entry or the RadioFeeds links.
