Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-09-02 Thread Michael Herger

I installed spotty and I am able to use my touch as a connected player
but I have noticed that the ogg vorbis is recompiled as pcm and auto
play does not work.

Spotty would stream PCM rather than Ogg if you had volume normalization
enabled. But don't worry. It won't hurt the sound quality.

I then installed the spotty helper, but now I cannot use my touch as a
Spotify connect player, it doesn’t show up in the app.

No need to install a helper, as it did play before, didn't it?

My lms runs on a raspberry pi 4 (picore). How do I get Spotify to work
and how can I use my touch as a Spotify connect player?

From your description it looks as if it just worked as expected, until
you started to try to change things. So please go back to default
settings, no additional helper etc. And make sure you got your client ID
configured correctly.

I should add, as long as the legacy helper was used there does not seem
to be any messages in the log. Without it there are messages saying the

2021-07-12 Thread Guut_Boy

So now I am on 4.6. And the problem persists, I tried an other player to
(squeezebox touch) and the sound is the same.

I have tried removing the helper applications from the plugins menu and
tried adding both the legacy one, and the ARMv8/aarch64 one. But only
the legacy one (the one I listed above) seems to work (when that is not
there the Spotty settings page tells me there is a problem finding the
helper app). I tried running the different helper apps from command line
and all but the legacy fail with errors either “illegal instruction” or
“Exec format error” (which I believe hints the binary is for the wrong
architecture?), this includes the one called spotty-custom you
mentioned.

I have also enabled flac and pcm for Spotty in the File Types settings.

I have also re-entered my account credentials just to be sure.

I am not really sure what to try next. Any ideas?

The Pi model is B Plus rev 1.2 (512MB RAM). The Spotty helper
application is listed as
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SpottyARMLegacyBin/Bin/spotty

I guess you've been using that before? Can you double check what binary
Spotty is using? It looks as if it didn't use the above, but the default
helper. It should say "spotty-custom".

In any case: please update to 4.6. If the problem persists (using FLAC
and PCM), then please report in
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114836 and include
server.log if there's any info about spotty.

You have to go to the Spotify list of available devices. The problem I
have is that sometimes my SB3 is not in the list of available devices.
To solve this, I have to power on the SB3 and to play a song. I don’t
know what is happening.

Spotty has a confusing number of options and modes to interact with.
From your description I assume you're talking about the Connect mode.
This mode unfortunately isn't very stable. But usually the players
should show up automatically after a minute or two. You can check the
server.log to see whether Spotty is reporting anything.

and put it as spotty-custom.exe somewhere in your helper search path

I've just checked LMS on a laptop, and the Spotify Albums folder is
empty there, too. So Michael is right, this seems to be a server issue.
I wonder if Michael has had any reports from other UK users of an issue.

I haven't. Could you please try to get your albums list using the

(I access the web in a standard way — no proxies / vpn or anything like
that. I use a public dns, but can't see that that would cause an issue.)

I'm not sure the would add anything to identify the problem. As long as
you have 502/504 errors in server.log there's an issue you can't do much
about.

I'm in UK. I'm running LMS on PiCorePlayer: would it help to remove LMS
and its Cache via the PCP interface and then reinstall it there from
scratch?

It probably wouldn't hurt, but I believe it's a waste of time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-07-06 Thread Michael Herger

Since the 4.5 update (I think) I have noticed that multiple albums are
listed in an artist's discography which don't appear in the Spotify app.

This seems to be a problem with Spotify's API, I can reproduce it using
their API console
(https://developer.spotify.com/console/get-artist-albums/?id=_groups):
If you left out the "market" filter, you'd get both versions of an
album, with a list of countries in which those were available. I can see
that one of them was available in my market, while the other wasn't.
That's fine.

If OTOH you tell them what market to send results for (eg. "UK"), you'd
get no availability information back, but still both versions of an
album. Which means that in this case the plugin has no way to filter out
unavailable items. They would show up, but not play.

Haha... looking for bug reports related to this I found the following -
on which I had already commented back in May...

If it was working you wouldn't need to turn it off and apply a remote
stream adjustment of -5. Michael has provided a custom helper that does
actually work if you want to try that.

Spotty shows my Spotify 'Albums' folder as empty, though it actually
contains a large number of albums.

I've tried rescanning (both online music and whole library), without
success. Scanner log file has this error:

[21-07-06 08:45:32.3278] Plugins::Spotty::API::Sync::_call (336) Trying

line 377.

I'm running LMS 8.1.1 on PiCore (RPi4b); Spotty 4.5.4; Spotty Helper
Application for ARMv8 (0.30.2)

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions about how to restore my Spotify
albums to the Albums folder on Spotty.

that Spotify used a different target value than Replaygain but it seems
that Spotify's target level of -14 must be achieved in post processing
and Librespot uses the correct Replaygain value. By the way that track
has a Replaygain Album Volume Adjustment of -11.07 dB which is one of
the highest I have seen [emoji3]

Ok, I think I'm able to reproduce this now with a more recent build of
librespot code than what the spotty helper v1.0.1 is using. With that
more recent build I'd clearly hear a difference, and a decibel meter app
on the phone does confirm that v1.0.1 does not apply normalization,
while the new build would. Normalisation would NOT apply to Ogg direct
streaming. In that case we don't have the normalisation information
available. I'm probably going to disable direct streaming in case
normalisation was being enabled. Oh my... too many options.

Would you be able to drop a spotty-custom in your file path on both your
systems to confirm the change in behaviour? Please note that this helper
would be rather rough and hardly tested. But it would allow us to
understand whether we were on the right way.

BTW: there's an odd drop in volume of about 10dB in that song after a
few seconds. At first I thought it was a problem with spotty again, but
playing in Spotify directly showed the same.

2021-07-05 Thread Michael Herger

Now there is just one or two peeves. The most "annoying one" is that
sometimes, tracks just don't play. Spotify for android, at least, has
the option to "show non-playable songs" with which you obviously can
hide them by not rocking the switch ;). We have found that sometimes a
playlist just stops at a song or several songs. We first thought it was
random, but we then found it seemed to be the same song eveytime the
list was through and replayed again.

Can you share the list, and what track to expect to fail? You could also
enable debug logging for plugin.spotty, navigate to the item and start
playback, then share the resulting server.log.zip with me. Spotty
already should filter out non-playing content, if the information is
shared by Spotify.

The other is the thing I asked you through PM, an indication on which

When did you ask so? I don't see any new PM?

playlist is currently playing or a history of which playlist was playing
to make it easier to change back to a nice playlist when one of the kids
has changed it to their favourite kiddy's song using their iPeng or
whatever.

You can use the "What was that tune?" plugin to get a history of what
you were playing. It's track based, not playlist. But it might be a
start anyway.

I keep on not updating Perl on the NAS for LMS to keep working. Does
anyone have a fix for that?

I guess you're a Synology Diskstation user? No real fix, only several
workarounds: use Docker (if available on your NAS) or a Raspberry Pi to
run LMS. Lot's of discussions around this topic can be found in these
groups.

Well, I'm very happy about this! I always tell my family "don't increase
the volume yet, wait until the next track when it will sort itself out"
but now starting from within a song, after shutting down whilst playing
(which is in fact a seek of sorts I guess) is fixed immediately.
Excellent.

Now there is just one or two peeves. The most "annoying one" is that

playlist just stops at a song or several songs. We first thought it was
random, but we then found it seemed to be the same song eveytime the

include non-playable songs when starting a playlist, or a skip when
timeout of more than 5 secs or something is reached?

The other is the thing I asked you through PM, an indication on which
playlist is currently playing or a history of which playlist was playing

Can you check the process list right after you've started playback:

definitely works when playing to it from the Spotify app. So volume
normalisation works for Librespot but not for Spotty.

What parameters are you using? There (unfortunately) are three different
normalization related settings in LMS. What streaming format did you use
for Spotty? Did you vary settings/formats in your tests? Did you use any
particular setting in your librespot test?

Sorry to interfere, but it works for me.
QLMS on a QNAP (intel), LMS 8.0.1, Spotty 4.5.4
There have been a couple of failures (*), due to the changes Michael had
introduced in the Spotty custom-convert.conf and helper, but now all
seems OK: either activating or not ReplayGain in Spotty.
Actually, I have decided to turn it off and apply -5 dB in the global
streaming options, because this seems to match well the ReplayGain
settings of my private library (tags calculated at -18 dB LUFS with
dBpoweramp). Playing the same songs I perceive the same sound volume.
ReplayGain in Spotify is calculated at -14 dB LUFS, from the link posted
a few pages earlier.

(*) I use SoX for equalization, and I have a custom-convert for that,
also for Spotify streams: last weekend I blindly upgraded Spotty without
testing, and then left leaving my son for a party with his friends.
Needless to say, playing was broken (I had no idea I had to re-tweak my
custom-convert, due the new changes introduced): it will take a while to
be forgiven... ;-)

PS: from what I understood from the Spotify pages, they level ALL music
at -14 dB LUFS, which is the "normal" setting (or no setting). The
"loud" and "quiet" are -11 dB and -23 dB respectively (and the "dynamic"
normalisation seems to be a peak limiter. I found some more useful info
at the 'librespot options'
(https://github.com/librespot-org/librespot/wiki/Options) page)

What is the current situation regarding volume normalisation? I see

You tell me... As I don't use it myself (I only use the LMS global
online source adjustment), I don't really know what is working and what
is not.

normalisation-method basic
has been removed from custom-convert.conf, does that mean normalisation
is supposed to be using "dynamic" normalisation now?

No. "basic" is now baked in to the v1.0.1 helper binaries. The
additional command line parameter was causing issues with some of the
old helper binaries as shipped in the "legacy helper" plugins.

Sorry for the delay in getting back it has been a busy time. So I have
set up the Pi using pCP v7.0. and after some tinkering about I now have
access to spotty again. I've lost all of my old favourites etc. and I'm
having issues getting pCP to mount a network drive, but these are all
problems that I can sort out with time, effort and if all else fails a
hammer.

Thanks for your help and guidance Michael.

Great app and great support.

v4.5.4 is on its way to you. It should fix this issue with the
incompatible command line argument an old helper binaries. The new
helper binaries v1.0.1 no longer need it, but have the setting baked in.

Oh!... that's an excellent catch! Would you be able to edit the

I am having the exact same behaviour as you, however I an running on a
QNAP NAS and not a Synology. The Spotty Helper I am using is a legacy
is the ARM6/7 Legacy (0.12.0) and there are no errors in the LMS log. I
was unable to run the Helper manually as I see this:

and 'play' the music, but still there was no sound, no audio output from

And in that configuration did you try all kinds of transcodings

I tried doing this but failed... I use PuTTY connect to Synology where
LMS is running. Downloading from github works nice and smooth. Then I
go:

Code:

admin@DiskStation:/volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins$
 chmod a+x ./spotty-hf

admin@DiskStation:/volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins$
 ./spotty-hf -x
-sh: ./spotty-hf: No such file or directory

admin@DiskStation:/volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins$
 ls
  SpottyARMLegacyBin spotty-hf

I tried it several times, typing the code, copying the code from you.
Always "No such file or directory".

See the post immediately before yours for a much less expensive
solution.
The minimum is Raspberry Pi (almost any version but good idea to get one
of the more recent models with multiple cores (LMS only uses 1 but
Spotty can use another one) - e.g. 3B+ or 4 (2GB or more) and Ethernet -
a power supply and an appropriate SD card(*).
Optional extra ... Case
Even more optional ... keyboard, mouse

You should be able to do that for half the price of that starter kit.
