Re: [Qgis-user] new Ubuntu-20.04 still not up to date

2020-04-23 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn

Hi Dave,

Concerning Option B.

Use the "Add Shapefile" menu, not "New Shapefile" menu.

The former one adds an existing shapefile to your QGIS project. The
later one creates a new empty file (and hence asks you if you want to
overwrite the existing one with data).

Best regards

Matthias

This is qgis-3.10.4-A .  During the installation I was asked if I
wanted my old settings preserved, I said No.

I get different results depending on how I proceed.

A. If I open the application and choose the blank project, add New
Shapefile Layer and navigate to "DCDB.shp" I get "The layer already
exists, overwrite ?" (which seems wrong for a blank project), answer
Cancel. The input file DCDB.shp is written to a file size of 100 bytes
from 9.8 MB. This is exactly the same as the problem I was having
before, which I eventually gave up on.

B. If I don't open qgis, but simply double-click on "DCDB.shp", it
opens qgis and loads the layer, which renders correctly. I can change
the polygons' colours based on the TENURE field. I can save the
project and close, but on reopening qgis, my project is not presented.
If I navigate to the newly created ./gis/Lot11.qgz it opens as a blank
project with no layers.

At qgis.org I see that you released qgis-3.12 on 17 April 2020, less
than a week before Ubuntu-20.04 was due to be released.

At https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#debian-ubuntu ,
I cannot understand what you mean by "To have newer versions, you have
to add alternative software repositories, by adding one of the
deb-lines below to your /etc/apt/sources.list file." There are no deb
lines below. There are 15 URLs.

Please help.

vlayer=QgsVectorLayer ("aShapeFile.shp" ,"run  " + str(i) + " at " +

QgsProject.instance().addMapLayer(vlayer)

QgsProject.instance().removeMapLayer(vlayer.id())

QgsProject.instance().clear()

Same result,  the Script slows down after every iteration in the loop

Do I need to do some garbage cleaning / what am I doing wrong / is

We definitely could have been clearer in the question. But I think the

Dear Iain,

Yes, QGIS has an entity: QGIS.ORG is the worldwide association of
QGIS users and developers. QGIS.ORG is constituted as a Swiss
‘association’
(https://qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/governance/charter.html)
but it is not a registered charity.

To help support QGIS, organizations are invited to become
sustaining members of QGIS.ORG. The details of our sustaining

You can also see who's already supporting QGIS:

Good day

On one of my computers Qgis will display a graphical list of
recently opened projects when no project is currently open. On
another computer it won't display this list.

How is it possible to get the software to display this list. I
have looked through menus and settings but haven't been able to
discover how to change this.

Hi list,

I’ve got a project set up in QGIS 3.4.x with a parent polygon

piece of land and can have multiple tasks associated with it
(grass cutting, weeding, pruning, etc.).  Sites can be made up of
multiple polygons.

With relations set up in the project it is easy to select a
polygon feature and update attributes.  It is easy to add or edit
associated tasks.  See screenshots below.  With multiple site
polygons selected I can use the “modify selected attributes
simultaneously” to update information.

I need to find a way to be able to select site polygons and add
the same associated task to each one.  For example, select all
site polygons that need grass cutting task associated with them,
assign the task and maintain the parent child relationship.  It
would be great if there was a way to do this through the form.

One solution I have been toying with is using a SQL query to
select the site polygons and insert into the associated tasks
table a new record associated with each polygon.  The query works
but I need a way to tie it into the form. Anyone got any
pointers?  Some python to call the SQL and get the selected
feature IDs from QGIS?

Thanks

For your information, at the bottom of documentation pages, there is a

Hi Jakob,

When adding a new Layer, QGIS checks the column definition in postgis

I suspect either of the following:

Isn't it possible to create new data in 3 dimensional tables from

(Found a work around but I prefer not to use this:
If I save the QGIS-project and open the .qgs-file in text editor and

/type=Point/

When changing this to:

/type=PointZ/

saves the project and try to create a new object, it works fine.)

Re: [Qgis-user] Attribute Assistant

2020-01-21 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn

Hi Ed,

I must acknowledge my complete lack of the ESRI tools, so I am left with
the first hits I find in an internet search to guess what it does exactly.

My first guess is, that "default value" configuration is what you are
looking for. There is support for QGIS expressions - which opens up a
wide variety of possibilities.

Hi Bo,

GeoPackage has support for JSON fields, meaning that text fields can be
of JSON type.

When you add a new JSON field (e.g via the field calculator) this type
can be chosen and then the key/value widget should work.

I just realized, that the JSON field type is missing from the create new
geopackage layer dialog.

I've tried creating a virtual field (type blob) where the value in the

I'm aware, that I could create a Postgres database and put my data in

Is there a solution to this problem ?

AutoCAD programs have a tendency to open the file either zoomed
out or zoomed away from our zone of interest.  Ex.  Your lines are
in Canada but the files open in France.  You need to find your
data. Zoom in, zoom out or pan until you find it.  Sometimes, you
have a function saying « zoom to layer extent ».  If that does not
work, try to find your data looking at coordinates system.

Don’t forget to do a « reply all » so that the user groupe can
profit from the conversation.
Hope this helps

In QGIS 3.10 if I open a project (created in a different previous
version of QGIS ranging from 3.4 - 3.8) and then I:

 1. Open an attribute table of a layer that contains point geometry
 2. Select one of the records in that attribute table
 3. Click "Zoom Map to selected rows"

It puts me hundreds of miles off my map entirely (so a blank screen).
This only happens with records that have single point geom (if it is a
line or polygon it works fine).

If I remove the layer and re-add it back, the problem still exists.
However, if I create a brand new project in 3.10 and add that exact
same layer (all are stored in PostGIS database), the issue is not
there and it works as expected. So the issue seems to stem from old
"working" projects that are now opened in the newer version of QGIS.

Has anyone else seen this or something similar? Is there anyway of
fixing the project file without having to recreate it all from scratch
so I can use these in the new version of QGIS?

Good news, this behavior could be changed by switching the sqlite
journal mode to delete (environment variable OGR_SQLITE_JOURNAL=DELETE).

Caution: WAL was enabled because DELETE (which is the default journal mode of
SQLite) was causing locking issues, even in local file, single user, single
QGIS application context. There might have been later changes in the OGR
provider that makes it no longer needed, but this should be carefully checked.
In particular if the test added in https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/

still pass in DELETE

FYI, after recent experiences with WAL disabled (in a different scenario
without network involved), I don't think the situation has completely
stabilized.

It seems we'll need to evaluate how to deal with multithreading to get

Hi Lars,

Thank you for bringing that up. There has been a feature request opened
for this - or at least something very similar - recently
(https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/32348.

The next step will be that someone starts working on this. It is
possible that someone will volunteer his precious time. This is unlikely
to happen if developers are put under general suspicion of being
forgetful and lazy. There is also the other possibility that someone
that has the skills and availability is contracted to work on this.

Looking forward to a constructive discussion!

QGIS and OGR use gpkg in WAL mode by default. Fun fact: this is not
supported on network drives, as documented on
https://www.sqlite.org/wal.html :

> All processes using a database must be on the same host computer; WAL
does not work over a network filesystem

I did not test what happens if only *some* of the accessing systems use
DELETE and others use WAL, nor did I check what happens when writing to
the DB while reading (or even concurrent writes - which definitely no
longer is a safe operation mode for sqlite on a shared network volume <-
if you end up in this category, get a postgres server).

Maybe we need to rethink the default mode of opening gpkg's
and if anyone can provide ground truth on the untested operation modes
mentioned before, please share the results here.

Re: [Qgis-user] Install Quick Map Services Plugin in Ubuntu 18.04

2019-09-27 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn

Hi Jimi,

You need to install the plugin from within QGIS. No need to directly
download it from anywhere yourself.

See
https://docs.qgis.org/3.4/en/docs/training_manual/qgis_plugins/fetching_plugins.html

Does that help?

10.2.1. basic Follow Along: The QuickMapServices Plugin

The QuickMapServices plugin is a simple and easy to use plugin that
adds base maps to your QGIS project. It has many different options and
settings, let’s start to explore some of its features.

1.

Start a new map and add the roads layer from the
|training_data| Geopackage.

2.

Install the *QuickMapServices* plugin.

3.

Open the plugin’s search tab by clicking on Web ‣ QuickMapServices
‣ Search QMS. This option of the plugin allows you to filter the
available base maps by the current extent of the map canvas.

4.

Click on the Filter by extent and you should see one service
available.

5.

Click on the Add button next to the map to load it.

6.

The base map will be loaded and you will have a satellite
background for the map.

Hi René,

2.18 is end of life. For using QField, QGIS >= 3.4 is required.

Apart from that QGIS >= 3.4 is highly recommended for any use.

Have a look at https://qgis.org/en/site/ for currently supported versions.

Hi there,

lately I observed the following:
I was using the Vertex Tool quite a lot lately as I had to adjust
polygon boundaries in a larger layer (PostGIS table ~60.000 polygons).
The layer and the QGIS project use CRS 3857.
As I am aware of snapping issues I usually take care that snapping is
only enabled for layers where I really need it.
As QGIS enables snapping for each layer loaded (when setting enable
snapping by default in the settings, I guess) I forgot to turn it off
for some point layers (millions of features - address point layer) I
added later as a background reference. Those layers were using CRS
4326 and therefore re-projecting on-the-fly.
As soon as those were in the mix QGIS started to crash very frequently
(>10x per hour) when using the Vertex Tool.
After some time and frustration I noticed the snapping options and
disabled snapping for those point layers and the crashes stopped
immediately (no crashes for days).
The crashes appeared ONLY when using the Vertex Tool for me. Splitting
or reshaping features worked just as expected.

I know this is a very vague and not very technical description of a
problem which can be very frustrating to users who do not see the
connection between the snapping options, re-projecting on-the-fly and
those crashes.

I do not know if it is a Vertex Tool or re-projecting issue... or a
combination of both as other tools work fine.

Hi Christoph,

On export you can also choose in the field export options to use the

In the layer properties -> attributes form of your layer it's possible

want to tune something in there too.

Re: [Qgis-user] QField: possible to add entry from relation?

2019-03-19 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Bernd,

Welcome on board!

It's not yet available but under heavy development in our R labs.
There are a couple of early development screenshots available at
https://github.com/opengisch/QField/pull/502 and even a alpha test app,
but it will still require some work before it's ready for prime time.

So for now, you will have to work with a plan B, but if you can wait a
month or two, you will be able to directly add your inspections via
nested forms.

Btw, there is a "fix me" link at the bottom of each page in the docs, if
you happen to find something that needs improvement, we'll be very happy
to have it fixed!

Best regards

Matthias

Re: [Qgis-user] R: R: Qfield - basic docs

Hi Franco,

there is no command menu.

You can start by clicking on a feature and editing attributes. Changing
the mode to digitize with the pencil on the hamburger menu (sidebar
left) and then choosing a layer to add features, enabling the GPS with
the corresponding button ... Or of course exploring the docs that you
sent in a link for more features :-)

Best regards

Matthias

What kind of a menu bar are you looking for?

Do you want to add new features, look at attributes of existing features

Hi Franco,

http://www.qfield.org/docs is the point of reference. What information
are you missing there and what questions do you have?

If we know what's missing it will be easier to come up with additional
material in the future.

Hi Frederick,

You might consider to not use resources at all and just put any file as
is into the plugin.

This works very well and makes deployment much easier.

Re: [Qgis-user] Vector with more than xyzm

2018-11-07 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
The closest you can get using a single table is using array typed
fields, but beware of editing data, nothing will prevent you from
corrupting the data and having geometry and attributes out of sync.

Other approaches are having a separate point layer with the vertices
duplicated or a linear referencing table.

Cheers

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis 3 on CentOS

2018-08-07 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Valentin,

I meant in the first line, I would consider switching to another
distribution if you want to use QGIS 3. In this sense yes, if you are
bound to this CentOS distribution I would recommend to stick to 2.18 or
look for a way to run QGIS in a virtualized environment.

Best regards

Matthias

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis 3 on CentOS

2018-08-03 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Valentin,

Thank you for reporting this. The repository unfortunately no longer
exists and packages for QGIS 3 where never available there. The link
will be removed from the download page.

I am not sure if there is an alternative repository that offers it.

The situation with CentOS is often complicated because it has a long
lifetime and libraries used by QGIS are often old and outdated. I think
it *should* be possible to get it up and running with someone who is
able to compile, but if you have a choice, I would recommend to use
another distribution with Qt 5.10 or newer.

All the best
Matthias

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS ver. 2.18.20 Openlayers - Problem...?

2018-07-29 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi James,

Since QGIS 2.18, there is a builtin functionality for basemaps which
offers many advantages, have a look here
https://gis.stackexchange.com/a/217670/9839 . If you want an easy to use
GUI tool to add a basemap using this functionality, best look into
QuickMapServices.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Forms and composite keys?

2018-07-10 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Bob,

Yes, that would be a really nice enhancement. Unfortunately, there was
still no-one there to put it high enough up in the priority list to
allocate the resources and make this come true.

I could imagine that it works with making a virtual field that concats
the parts of the pk and define that as reference. But it's a wild guess
and nothing that has been tested to my knowledge.

Best regards

Matthias

Re: [Qgis-user] Access to iface in processing alg

2018-07-09 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi,

Processing algorithms run often in background threads. That's likely why
you are getting a crash, it's not safe to call UI functions from
background threads.

It's possible to

 - run the processing algorithm with a custom QgsProcessingFeedback
implementation

 - make sure that pushInfo etc. is first sent to the main thread as a
signal and executed there

 - return the QgsProcessingAlgorithm.FlagNoThreading from your
algorithms flags() method

 - or consider sticking to the way that processing has been designed for

Matthias

Hi,

can you elaborate why you need access to iface? In most cases there are
different ways that help you keep the algorithm modular and portable by
specifying required components via parameters or acquiring them from the
processing context.

What I want is a quick option for people to disable both separators,
without having to dig into details about which locale might offer this.
I think that's the most common request.
For the manual configuration of the group separators, if you can see a
use-case for that I don't mind, I just could not think of one.

Will it not work if the last option does QLocale.setDefault(QLocale::c()); ?

What do you think about a radio button for Number formatting

 - "According to system locale"
 - "According to locale [combobox]"
 - "No formatting"

I believe the last one deserves its quick setting. I am not sure if
someone wants to omit the group separator and have a custom decimal
point, then ok.

Hi Juliette,

1) In the settings there is an option "Use native camera", can you try
disabling this one? The native functionality is unstable on some platforms

2) Define a default value for a field with the content
@position_horizontal_accuracy

I just added some more docs here,
https://www.qfield.org/docs/project-management/vector-layers.html#additional-variables,
additional contributions to clarify even more are very welcome!

Best regards

Re: [Qgis-user] About QField

2018-06-25 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Ville,

For 1), have a look at the QField documentation, in particular the field
widget setup
http://www.qfield.org/docs/project-management/vector-layers.html#field-widget
What you need to do is configure a string field with "External Resource".

We have successfully used it on PostGIS servers, WFS should work but we
have never tested it in the wild.

Best regards
Matthias

Hi Eddison,

there are several solutions available, QField [1] is closely integrated
with QGIS, but if you search the web you'll find others as well.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS SVG: outdated warning

2017-11-25 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
I think Nyall will have some more information where things go right and
where they (can) go wrong.

Before improving the dialog text, we will need some insights into what
actually can go wrong and if we are able to predict that a certain
output is particularly prone to suffer from deficiencies.

As a second step we can write a message (or messages) that hints a user
towards potential problems (we see you are using blend modes, these will
be lost when exporting to format X, consider using Y instead) and give
task-focused suggestions (if you want to further edit the result or use
it for interactive web-publishing, use SVG, if you use it for printing
and static presentation prefer PDF).

Bests

Hi Richard,

In this case I was confused by the term stable in the previous message.

If this is still there on 2.99, can you check if SVG export also works with

* Transparency

* Layer blend modes

IIRC, these were the tricky things.

Thanks  a lot

Re: [Qgis-user] Field comments

2017-11-22 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Carlos,

Comments are not saved in the project, they are just retrieved from
databases.

E.g. Postgres:

COMMENT ON COLUMN my_table.my_column IS 'Employee ID number';

It's a usability issue with QGIS 2.18 that the column is editable in the
layer properties, it should be read only.

Sidenote: That's not something that couldn't be changed in a future
version, maybe it could be also discussed with the metadata team if
there's something ready for this already.

Matthias

Hi Lene,

that's the way it is. It's been on my wishlist to have more control over
what's saved for a while, but didn't happen so far.

You might try to manually edit the qml file and remove some definitions,
but not sure it works either.

Re: [Qgis-user] running qgis Docker container on Mac?

2017-10-21 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi,

this container was designed for automated testing, hence the call to
this script.

What you want instead is to run QGIS (and not its tests), so you could
try something like

docker run qgis/qgis /root/QGIS/build/output/bin/qgis

I guess you will also need to do some additional tricks to get any
window to show up, docker is not designed to run gui application. IIRC
there's a thing called xquartz that can help here.

Hi Mariane,

I don't see the usage of Qt.UniqueConnection in your example.

This works for me:

def executeSel():
print('selection changed')

layer.selectionChanged.connect(executeSel, Qt.UniqueConnection)
layer.selectionChanged.connect(executeSel, Qt.UniqueConnection)
Traceback (most recent call last):

try:
layer.selectionChanged.connect(executeSel, Qt.UniqueConnection)
except TypeError:
pass # No reason to complain if it was already connected

Just tell Qt that it shouldn't create the connection more than once

Re: [Qgis-user] Not able to access all GRASS modules with (Py)QGIS processing

2017-09-27 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Sophie,

Processing needs description files to know what kind of parameters and
outputs are related to grass algorithms.

The structure is quite trivial and adding missing description files is a
very good start to get involved with QGIS development.

See here:

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/tree/release-2_18/python/plugins/processing/algs/grass7/description

Best regards
Matthias

Hi,

If documentation on the website is missing, we will be very happy to get
a pull request for a homepage update from anyone.

Re: [Qgis-user] Building QGIS >= 2.18.12 on Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya - with Oracle provider?

2017-09-19 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Greg,

Not sure what exactly is going wrong when it freezes.

But since it happens at 99% it's possible that all the important parts
are already there and you are already able to start QGIS. Go to the
build directory and type

  ./output/bin/qgis

It's possible that this just works.

Good luck,
Matthias

Great idea,
I'd love to introduce an "also apply on update" checkbox to default
values, I think that would extremely improve the possibilities of this
feature (last modified timestamp with `now()`, last modified by with a
username variable etc.)

Re: [Qgis-user] Plugin Installation Issue: OpenLayers

2017-07-03 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Somehow, your QGIS is not able to download the plugin. This means
something with your internet connection prevents it from doing so
(because I just verified that the link from your own log message works
for me here, so we cannot blame the QGIS plugin repository server).

Let's investigate...

1. Can you download this link from your browser?
http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/openlayers_plugin/version/1.4.3/download/

If yes, it means your browser can download the plugin (through the same
internet connection).
If no... you'll have to find out why (or download it somewhere else and
do some manual steps)...

Anyway, so if yes you were able to download it: A common difference
between QGIS and your browser is the "proxy". Check the proxy settings
in your browser (depends on your particular browser, use your favorite
search engine...) and then read the following link:

https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/25188/how-to-access-qgis-plugin-repositories-from-behind-a-proxy

Good luck :)

1. Better use QuickMapServices (or even better the integrated XYZ
possibilities through the browser)

2. Check your proxy settings

Hi Nate,

The error message here is unrelated to the two plugins you mentioned.

Can you go to the plugin manager, make sure these plugins are activated
and check if you have any other message there?

Re: [Qgis-user] QField Question

2017-06-27 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Tyler,

Yes, that would be a very interesting feature. In the latest release of
QField last week, support for directly connecting the GPS to the add
vertex tool was added (before it was always two clicks: 1. center to
GPS, 2. digitize). This new feature is the ground work for the feature
which you are asking for. What's missing now is the ability to
repeatedly trigger the add vertex tool (in intervals), the required
development is some frontend work. If you have the possibility to
sponsor this feature, please let us know!

Best regards

Matthias

2017-06-11 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Yes, sometimes it's really hard and it can even be a bit disappointing.

Most often it actually helps a lot if you follow the advice you receive.
Sometimes - if you are lucky - they even produce better results for you
than trying random things.

It also helps a lot to answer with the correct name of the person who
responded. While this technically doesn't solve any current issues, it
considerably improves the chances of receiving answers to future
questions ;)

Re: [Qgis-user] problems with 'geometry creator'

2017-06-11 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Tobias,

If I read this correctly, you have got 5 features, each with a
LineString and what you would like to have is 1 feature with a connected
line.

Geometry generators work on individual features (5 features in, 5
features out).

What you will need instead is something with support for aggregation
like either a virtual layer or it might be possible to use aggregate
expression function with "collect".

Hello Luis,

Yes, that would be great.

Besides the easy installation you mention, this would offer some great
potential for ease of testing, deployment and automated tasks.

You can have a look at some experiments I once started here,
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/3784, feel free to take that and
improve on it. If you need any further help or input in working on these
packages, please let us know, the community here is very helpful!

Best regards

Hi Andreas,

You can use the QFieldSync plugin which comes with a processing
algorithm that renders a styled map within a given extent to a raster
dataset.

Yesterday I compiled from source QGIS 2.18.7 in openSUSE Leap 42.2

Everything went fine and there were no problems with the compilation.
However, when using the new installation I realized that the function

allows to move the attribute row of a selected feature to the top of the
attribute table does not seem to work. This problem was not present in
 my
previously installed version (2.18.6), nor in another machine I use
 (QGIS
2.14.2, Windows 7) using the same data. I wonder if any other users are
experiencing this in 2.18.7, or there is just something wrong with my
 particular installation.

If it happens only with shapefiles, it might be related to "repack"ing
of these.

Can you compare the GDAL/OGR versions of the affected and unaffected

Re: [Qgis-user] 2 Questions

Hi Tyler,

Sorry, I'm having troubles to understand the question. Is this related
to QGIS or QField? What exactly do you want to do?

This mailing list here is for QGIS, if you are interested in QField, I'd
suggest to switch to one of the support channels for it, to keep the
information well-separated
(http://www.qfield.org/docs/development/index.html).

Regards

Matthias

The docs have just been updated to explain how readonly and
identification configuraiton works.

Re: [Qgis-user] Processing tools stopped working.

2017-03-30 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Tyler,

this is an issue with the plugin (on some systems) and not an issue with
your dependencies.

Do not install PyQt packages with pip on the system where QGIS is
installed. This will install imcompatible binary libraries which is
never a good idea.

Hi Jonathan,

The most interesting part in GDB becomes visible as soon as you type
"bt" after a crash (I think the same if you kill it but no guarantee).

Thanks

Re: [Qgis-user] How to merge layers without a work-around?

2017-03-13 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Tobias,

thanks for the feedback.

Tests have to be written and added by someone. Apparently no one did
this for the merge test yet.

In general this is quite easy, and doesn't require programming
experience, see
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/blob/master/python/plugins/processing/tests/README.md#how-to

I think for this one here, there would be some initial effort to add the
ParameterMultipleInput to the testing system.

If you would like to help with this and prevent future QGIS releases to
suffer from such problems, I'll be happy to assist.

Re: [Qgis-user] Real Mask functionality in QGIS?

2017-03-09 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi,

Related to this discussion, have a look at the following QGIS
Enhancement Proposal for "Selective Masking":

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/63

I have no idea if this fits in the same scope, but I guess it would be
good to contact the author of the QEP (Huge Mercier) to see if that's
included, how much extra effort that would required and where he
currently stands with this proposal.

I have been thinking of threaded loading with a configurable maximum
number of features to be shown as a first step.

That is

 * open the attribute table empty (no loading progress bar)
 * features start appearing automatically (an icon indicates that it's
busy loading)
 * change the filter (expression, selection, canvas...) while loading or
not: cancel, empty, restart
 * change the sort order: cancel empty restart

Part 2 (not putting that on high priority)

 * Paging (possibly using infinite scroll)

Re: [Qgis-user] Is there a shortcut to disable and enable snapping during digitizing?

2017-02-27 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi,

In QGIS 3.0 there will be a toolbar icon to enable/disable snapping
quickly. This feature is already in master (nightly-2.99) available.

We have just been working on a keyboard shortcut for this now, it's
waiting for final polish before it goes live. The default key to toggle
snapping is "S", but this is configurable in the keyboard shortcut manager.

Re: [Qgis-user] can't editing view using rules

2017-01-18 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi Karl-Magnus,

What datatype is your primary key? I think returning is only required
for 64 bit integer or compound primary keys.

For an example of a complex view with return, have a look here:

https://github.com/QGEP/datamodel/blob/master/view/vw_qgep_wastewater_structure.sql

Best regards

Hi,

would it be possible to add this link at the bottom of the mails in
place of or next to the "list info" link?

Thanks

Re: [Qgis-user] one feature doesn't show when zooming in to a normal level

2017-01-04 Per discussione Matthias Kuhn
Hi,

I did a quick check with your attached dataset on 2.18 and master but
couldn't see any disappearing features between these scales.

Does it happen with a new project as well?
Which gdal/ogr version are you using (Help->About)?
Can you try to save the file as a new shapefile and try again?

All the best
Matthias
