[RBW] Re: "Riding-a-bicycle Zen"

2022-02-14 Thread Paul Clifton
I agree, John. And I think there is something in particular about Rivendell
bicycles, that encourage it, for me. Some people may find it freeriding
machine built flow trails, but, here, what we all have in common is a an
appreciation of the ineffable ride quality and a connection to the
aesthetic experience of owning and riding Rivendell bicycles. For me at
least, the thing that makes a particular bike good for Just Riding is
probably what makes it good as part of an "activity that does not require
much discursive thought," as Watts put it.

Thanks for sharing the talk.

The Stanford Baccalaureate speech has been replayed a handful of times

I'd also like to throw into the ring The Pocket Thich Nhat Hahn

compact book covers the basics and fits in just about anywhere with ease,
 including your saddlebag.

It's covers the basics and is very palatable, 10/10 worth keeping a

Soviet, ir was over $30 to ship a $30 light so it would depend on the shipping

Anyway the SimWorks is perfect for what I want but out of stock everywhere

This handy document from Riv.

If you look in the 20th catalog there's a primer in there as well.

[RBW] Re: "Riding-a-bicycle Zen"

2022-02-14 Thread John Rinker
I hear you on the 'consistent practice' notion, Paul. This is why I find
cycling such a wonderful medium. I enjoy it, it's something I don't really
need to motivate myself to do, and I do it every day. As long as I'm
sitting on the bike, I might as well breathe and enjoy my surroundings.

Cheers,
John

[RBW] WTB: V brakes, levers, and heat treated Albatross bars

2022-02-14 Thread Andrew Turner
Riv has all this in stock but I'm a sucker for buying used. If anyone's got
the goods below, I'm interested!

1) Heat treated Ablatross handlebars
2) Deore V brakes or nicer. Shimano-y. I'm down with vintage xtr or the
like (who wouldn't!)
3) Long pull brake levers, they just need to be silver and in decent shape.
Nothing fancy necessary
4) 31.8 to 25.4 shim

I'm in zip code 37064

[RBW] Re: "Riding-a-bicycle Zen"

2022-02-14 Thread Paul Clifton
I don't have a lot to add, but since I think about this kind of a lot, I'll
add my experience, but try to keep it short. I often recite/perform Thich
Nhat Hahn's breathing poem when I ride: "In/Out, Deep/Slow, Calm/Ease,
Smile/Release, Present Moment/Wonderful Moment". I've never been big on
listening to teachers, so I never got into Zen or any other sort of formal
practice, but I did take a bunch of psychedelics with friends who enjoyed
talking about the nature of reality as much as I did, and ended up having
some conversations with Buddhist teachers about following the path of the
Buddha or finding one's own path. For me, many different experiences have
led to me to where I am now, and cycling has been an important one - along
with love and drugs.

But after all of that, I find that without some sort of consistent
practice, maintaining presence in my day-to-day life is a real struggle,
exacerbated by the typical responsibilities of middle age. It may not
matter how I practice, but doing it every day, one way or another, with
intention, seems to be important. Inconsistency aside, maybe this is the
year for a real bicycle day blowout.

IMO it's hard to beat the look and feel of the Albatross. I've set up
my Sam with something like 6-7 different bars at this point; started with
the Albatross and finally came back around to that setup a few months
 back.
It seems like most newer bars that Riv makes come back extra far to
complement the longer reach of their newer models. Since the Albatross
predates those bikes I think they strike a nice balance when coming from
drops. I think something like +2cm on a stem will keep the fit/feel from
popping you too upright if you're used to Noodles. I have an 11cm stem and
 have considered a 12, but since it's pretty fine as-is I haven't bothered
 with the swap.

Shifter choice might also play into your decision. I have Microshift
thumbies flipped inboard which sorta takes away the "in between" hand
position because it clogs up the bars a bit. This is less of an issue on a
bar like Chocos because they have additional sweep. If you run bar ends,
you get that extra 2ish cm of sweep from the bar end pods and also get to
keep the "in between" position. I've been thinking about moving to stem
shifters or moving the thumbies up next to the stem in the forward-most
 hand position.

Re: [RBW] Suggestions for transporting a fat, tall, heavy wheel by bicycle?

2022-02-14 Thread Patrick Moore
Josiah: Thanks. In the event, I simply rode home carrying the wheel in my
right hand. The route is mostly dirt acequia roads with gates, and simply
stopped and propped the bike up against gates while I carried the wheel
around/over, then propped that up and carried the bike around or over. The
last 3/4 mile is access roads, and I took a 1/4 mile detour on sidewalk at
the busiest part. Sub 2 miles total taking dirt back way. Arm tired upon
arrival home.

Really must find those front axle wheel carriers I made a few years ago ...

Re: [RBW] Re: I'm a New Bike Commuter

2022-02-14 Thread Corwin
Santa Susana pass. I have not visited the area in many years. But that
brings back memories of my first century - more than 45 years ago. Started
at PCH and Topanga Canyon Blvd. Up Topanga Canyon, north to where the 118
is today. East to Thousand Oaks and back to PCH via Decker Canyon Road.
Most vivid memories from that ride were a guy smoking a cigarette after we
climbed Santa Susana pass and my eating five quarter pounders in Thousand
Oaks (had not eaten anything that day).

Not suggesting Topanga Canyon Blvd (or any other street) is rideable or
unrideable.

[RBW] If a group of people may want to put an order in to Blue Lug

2022-02-14 Thread 'Joel S' via RBW Owners Bunch
Shipping is very expensive. I have a hard tine justifying paying more for
shipping than for the 1 Koma light I want to get. If there are others in
this situation maybe we can put in a larger order and save on shipping.

I was using the Kiley lights but it seems they redesigned them and a front
light only gives 2 hours now befor needing a recharged when on flash mode.
My Koma lights seem to last longer.

Surely not the XT ones. I saw these on the 'bay and look about right,

[RBW] Re: "Riding-a-bicycle Zen"

2022-02-14 Thread Joe Bernard
I originally answered the "buzzy hub" component of this topic which I think
hues close enough to the purpose of the list to get away with, but I'm less
comfortable (one person's opinion, I'm not a moderator) with the extensive
exploration of spirituality. Some of us pray while riding, too, which I'm
not sure is a Riv Bunch discussion.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this group. I thought it would be fun to share the

We bought the frameset in NYC a few months ago from a super nice fellow
 and brought it to DC.

It was surreal to behold the light blue frame, as if it had just left the
Toyo workshop in 2008. The paint seems to be custom, but who knows?

I contacted Rivendell for size and component advice. Will was so generous
 with his time.

I asked Will to recommend a shop in the greater DC area to build it. An
MD-based customer told him to steer us toward Mount Airy Bicycle Company,
owned by Larry, a "legend" in the community.

After talking to Larry, it was a no-brainer. Mount Airy's vast collection
of bikes and parts was mind-blowing. They did a superlative job on the
 build.

If you ride around DC or NYC, you might run into us — a big green
Hunqapillar and this fabulous Wilbury, whose saga continues.

Not sure how to share pics here. When I try I get a note saying my message

[RBW] Re: Just noticed 2021 Homers have much steeper top tube than older models?

2022-02-14 Thread David Person
Jon asked that I post this for him since he is new and being moderated, so
his replies don't post immediately.

"Well, since I am new to the group and still being moderated, this will
probably not get posted until long after everyone has laughed at me for the
question, but: I realised after posting that the information on
bikeinsights, specifically the top tube angle, had been computed from a
mis-entered top tube length of 60 *mm* instead of 60 cm!! That's where the
12 degrees surely comes from. I made the post over a week ago, and realised
the source of the mistake the following day and emailed the moderator to
request that my post not to forwarded to the list, and I suspect this
follow-up will take a couple of weeks to get approved too. Now, since I
mentioned the issue on bikeinsights to my dealer, he prodded them and they
fixed the top tube length in the data but they did not fix the computed top
tube slope, which still says 12 degrees.
So this is a separate (and mistaken) issue than the updated geometry for
the MIT frames since 2018, which I understand. All is well and I expect to
take delivery of my 6-degree-slope AHH in a few weeks! (The dealer got the
last of the 58-cm frames at RBW when it was announced that dealers may not
get deliveries this spring as planned). I've been planning the build, am
very excited and will post again when I really am a RBW owner."

I't would be interesting to know what your bike actually measures out to -

Keith (who is simply curious about understanding design changes over time

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this forum. After years of
coveting a Riv, I ordered a Homer and my dealer expects delivery this
spring. As I was just checking geometry to make sure I have a stem of the
right length ready for my reach, I noticed that the 2021 model has a
considerably steeper slope to the top tube (looks like almost 12 degrees,
compared to 6, if bikeinsights has it right). I'm a bit shocked, as I
hadn't realised there would be such a difference, and I hadn't read
anything about any big changes (I know they posted the measurements, and
it's on me for not doing due diligence, but I would have thought such a
 big
change would have warranted mention on the Riv site, with maybe their
thinking on why, and perhaps some comparison photos). All my visual
reference for what I had to look forward to is now out of date and of
course I'm second-guessing myself, maybe I should have ordered a Sam
instead -- I'm mostly a one-bike-at-a-time guy and my current bike, which
I've ridden for a long time, has a horizontal tube, and I felt 6 degrees
was already a big step for me. But, by looking at and admiring a lot of
people's builds I came to see the slight slope as a good thing and I
embraced my 6-degree-slopey future, step boldly into the future etc.

Looking at the current photos on the Riv site, the Homer and the Sam
have exactly the same top-tube slope (if you compare the pictures taken in
profile they have models that line up perfectly -- switching back and
 forth
between tabs, once I got them lined up, shows that they are close to
identical), and they say there that the photos represent the 2021
 geometry.

A few others I would recommend for their direct style and plain talk:
 - "What is Zen" by Norman Fischer and Susan Moon. Just published a few

-"No Beginning, No End" by my teacher, Kwong-roshi. He was part of the

If you want to hear / watch a talk, I always like to recommend this one

Hi there,

Maybe I can reassure you. I'm also a "level top tube" kind of guy who just
took delivery of my 2021 Homer Complete. I had the same second thoughts as
you when I checked BikeInsights after ordering my Homer. I'm right in the
middle of the size range for a 58, but I could've scraped by on a 61.5.

Based on what I'm seeing in front of me in my garage, I'd be very surprised
if the new Homer's top tube angle is actually 11 degrees. It really doesn't
look that steep. I think it looks exactly like most of the Sams I've seen.
The frame in general looks very balanced and composed.

I absolutely love mine, which I've set up as a brevet bike. The ride
quality and handling are both outstanding. It's plenty fast, too. I don't
think I'll ever go back to shorter chainstay Riv after this. I'm a convert.

At that point I really think it comes down to builds. A SH built up
lightish could feel much more nimble and quick than a Gallop with full
racks, fenders, heavy tires etc. I agree with Jason that built the same
they would likely feel pretty similar.

Now Charlie’s sitting (ironically with no saddle) in my garage waiting
for a few quick changes (replace the C15 narrow saddle with my Flyer

nice long ride next weekend… then more tinkering and changes to follow
 like:
 • Mini v-brakes (likely Shimano BR R353 with 90mm arch, taller than the
Box Two or Three 85mm mini v’s),
 • Swapping for my Hillborne’s wheelset (first wheels I built) with
 G-One Allround 50mm tires
 • Dynamo lights,
 • 46/30t double crankset to a 11-40t cassette (which may require a
 wolftooth-like hanger extender), and
 • Kona Wah Wah pedals.

Now I just need some spare time for wrenching … but I’ll probably spend

[RBW] Re: Free for postage: Target plimsolls.

2022-02-14 Thread RichS
Hello Patrick,

Glad you found an improved solution for your clip pedals. My Adidas
5-10s are comfortable but too wide for clips/straps. I've been searching
for a shoe with less width and noticed Specialized 2FOs also come in a flat
sole model. Would you consider measuring the widest part of your 2FOs and
posting the dimension? At your convenience of course.

Thanks very much for your help!

Hi J, regarding attaching pictures, the key is to make the file size isn't
too large. Before attaching photos to my posts, I always resize them to
something below 1mb.

Would love to see pictures of the bike when you are able to put them up.

I am 99% certain that both the AHH and Sam have 6 degree TT slope.
However, could not hurt to call Riv and discuss. They are very helpful on
the phone, and Grant himself might even be the one picking up the phone.
Has happened to me a couple times.

[RBW] Re: Which swept back bars for a Hillborne?

2022-02-14 Thread Damien
I actually went the other way, converting from Albatross to Noodles. With
the Albas, I had a 12cm stem and bar end shifters (although I think
thumbies would be better). They felt very upright for me - hence the move
to Noodles - but I can't figure out whether I just didn't take to the
sweepback of the Albas, or I was just used to drops. The Noodle setup is
using 48cm noodles with a 7cm stem, although sometimes I wish it were 5cm
or 6cm (or I just had compact bars). I'm going to try some SimWorks Fun 3s
or Nitto Wavies with a 135 faceplater to see if that changes my mind on
non-drop bars for this bike.

[RBW] Re: Just noticed 2021 Homers have much steeper top tube than older models?

2022-02-14 Thread Jeremy Till
The updated geometry probably isn't noted on the current website because
it's actually been in place for a few years--since 2018 at least, since the
2018
print catalog

 shows
the new geometry. The change to the top tube slope isn't the only change,
the biggest other change being longer chainstays, especially the larger
sizes. It's part of a general revamp of Rivendell's geometries across the
board--the same thing happened with the Atlantis, which along with the
Homer is pretty much the only "legacy" model they still make, albeit with a
lot of changes.

I, for one, see the reasoning behind the changes (better stability and
weight distribution, especially when sitting upright), and would encourage
you to give the new geometry a try. At the same time, I own bikes with both
the "new" Riv geometry (Clem Smith Jr) and the "classic" Riv geometry
(Rambouillet), and can understand that if you were expecting the latter and
got the former, how that would be a bit shocking.

[RBW] Re: Which swept back bars for a Hillborne?

2022-02-14 Thread Erik Wright
IMO it's hard to beat the look and feel of the Albatross. I've set up my
Sam with something like 6-7 different bars at this point; started with the
Albatross and finally came back around to that setup a few months back. It
seems like most newer bars that Riv makes come back extra far to complement
the longer reach of their newer models. Since the Albatross predates those
bikes I think they strike a nice balance when coming from drops. I think
something like +2cm on a stem will keep the fit/feel from popping you too
upright if you're used to Noodles. I have an 11cm stem and have considered
a 12, but since it's pretty fine as-is I haven't bothered with the swap.

[RBW] Re: Shimano V-Brake Mounting Bolts

2022-02-14 Thread Johnny Alien
@Garth I dis manage to find one of the bolts and they match what that
document says for 2 of the bolts. I would bet that either 16 or 25 would
work for either the front or back depending on what I find. That should
give me enough info.

@Rob for some reason the internet seems to think that there are Shimano
specific bolts. I doubt that is true. The one that I found doesn't look
anything like the one you posted as an official Shimano bolt and I know
that his one came with the brakes. Interesting.

[RBW] Re: Which swept back bars for a Hillborne?

2022-02-14 Thread Johnny Alien
You will want a longer stem to move to sweptback. How much longer depends
on which bars you choose. Unless you want to move to albastache in which
case you can keep everything your noodles have. I like to go with a shorter
stem when moving from drops to albastache. For conventional sweptback my
suggestion for first sweptback from drops is choco or losco. But it's
really a preference thing and hinges on how upright you want to be.

[RBW] Speaking of handlebars.., Tosco

2022-02-14 Thread Richard Rose
Is anyone else running the 650 width Tosco? My Clem came with this
beautiful beast of a handlebar (thanks Andrew!) and I was worried about the
width but I just love it. I do not know what I was worried about as my
other bikes have bars that are even wider. I was not even aware that the
Tosco's were all ChroMo until I got it. It is pretty heavy but the little
bit of flex is great. It seems a perfect match to the FacePlater stem - it
does not budge.

[RBW] FS :: Wool bike clothing Ibex Woolistic + other [long]

2022-02-14 Thread David Hallerman
Hi. A combination of downsizing and inadvertent weight loss over the
past few years (for reasons neither bad nor good), on top of my huge
love of Ibex clothing (I believe purchases by me and my wife were often
cited at their annual board meetings), means some really nice wool men’s
clothing for sale today. Also some Woolistic jerseys, knickers, Pearl
Izumi arm & leg warmers, and…well, please look below.

Sizing help: The 15 items are nominally size medium or large, and most
actually are. I’m 5’10” and now about 145 lbs. and when pieces like the
sky blue wool jersey fit me in a relaxed but not loose way, “club fit”
it’s often called, I was about 165 lbs.

Quick note about condition. New is tried on, never worn. Near-new was
worn only about a handful of times. And excellent was worn more than
that. But all these pieces are free of holes and stains and fading,
which would be less than excellent.

[RBW] Which swept back bars for a Hillborne?

2022-02-14 Thread Randall Rupp

I've got a Hillborne which I've always used with noodle bars, but want to
convert it to upright swept back bars. Anybody else made a similar
conversion, and which bars did you get? Should I get a new stem?

[RBW] Re: Heterodoxy — reconciling RBW with the mainstream

2022-02-14 Thread Jeffrey Arita
Jay,

My wife and I spent some time this past fall in Colorado, New Mexico and
Northern AZ. We drove a car and took our bikes (all rigid, adventure and
gravel bikes). Riding some of the singletrack trails in Colorado, we got
an abrupt wake-up call - many of the sections were, for us, very technical
vs. what we were used to on rigid bikes. Most of the locals were looking
at us funny, as they were on full suspension rigs. Sure, trail knowledge
and experience are crucial, but having that technology sure helps. The AZT
and CT can be brutal.

Upon our return in late 2021, we got my wife a full suspension mountain
bike for her birthday. It is night and day the type of terrain one can
ride (in comfort *and *control). So, yes, different tools for different
terrain. We've had or still have Rivs (AHH, BF, Ram) along with a CF full
suspension, adventure (Fargos), steel tandems and randonneurs. Nothing
wrong with applying different tools for specific situations. I'm thinking
as long as one is having a good time, it can't be wrong.

Best regards,

Jeff & Lori

[RBW] Re: 52cm Wilbury (fancy!) frameset, never built, CL outing

2022-02-14 Thread J J
Hi everyone. I'm new to this group. I thought it would be fun to share the
latest about this thread's mysterious subject.

We bought the frameset in NYC a few months ago from a super nice fellow and
brought it to DC.

When I try I get a note saying my message
is too long.

J

At that frame size, every one degree adds 1 cm of head tube height. So
on paper, the handlebar height of a 60 cm Sam is about the same as a 64 cm
 Ram.

The "new" sizing regime of Rivs with the 6 degrees of TT upslope was
new around when the Sams were introduced, maybe 13 years ago? Bombadil was
also the new bike bike around that time that pioneered the new greater TT
 angle.

Before that, the models tended to be around 2 degrees. Ram was never
made again after the "expanded" frame geometry was unleashed, so Rams are
all 2 degrees. (AHH's, on the other hand, have come in both styles,
depending on when made. And logic says the same is true of Atlantis,
although in the old days, the Atlantis was a wild one with 2.5 degrees (!)
of TT upslope. For AHH and Atlantis, the switch to Made In Taiwan is also
the switch from low angle to high angle.)

2022-02-14 Thread bob saunders
Folks…I have an extremely nice Campag 10-speed triple group that I’d like
to trade/add cash for a 62 Rambouillet or Romulus frame in great condition.
If sold as a group, I’m asking $550 plus shipping CONUS and I’m not
interested in breaking up the group. The group consists of:

Comp 10speed 53/42/30 175mm crank and NOS crank bolts
Centaur triple bottom bracket (English threads NOS w/box)
Centaur 10-speed alloy Ergos
Centaur 10-speed triple FD (32mm clamp NOS w/box)
Comp long cage RD
Centaur silver brakes with partially used pads
Here’s a link to a photo of the group and I have individual photos
available for email as well.

[RBW] WTB: 45cm Clem Smith Jr. Stepthrough (26")

2022-02-14 Thread Adam Harms
Howdy!

Long time lurker, Bridgestone owner, Riv bar hoarder, and father of an 8
month old here. I'm looking to get my petite (5'1") special lady outfitted
for bicycle errands and fun with baby once the weather clears in the
Willamette Valley and the baby is big enough. She currently has a
Bridgestone MB-3 with Bosco bars and a standover that is too tight for
comfort with a baby on front (planning on a Yepp Mini).

A small Clem stepthrough would be perfect for hauling baby, groceries,
light trail use, potential future bike camping, etc. The 26" wheel size
would allow an easy transfer of parts from the MB-3.

Anybody have a frame they would sell? I'm open to shipping or picking up in
the Willamette Valley. I have some frames and bars that could be part of a
trade.

Thanks!

Adam in Philomath, OR

2022-02-14 Thread Frank Burkybile
I have been there before Ahmed and it can be frustrating! I have sold
several bikes online over the years and some of the best seem to get no
response, need to get posted several times before getting any interest,
then only to get tire kickers who only want to look. Other times, one post
will get a lot of same-day interest. Fortunate timing (luck?) seems to be
the key. Perhaps when folks start to get a little spring fever in a few
weeks, you will find someone who is a match.

[RBW] FS :: Single-Speed Freewheels & Fixed Cogs Shimano Suntour NEW

2022-02-14 Thread David Hallerman

Hello!

I still love my single-speed bike, a Gunnar Streetdog that was one of
the first frames built by that Wisconsin brand at the close of the 20th
century. But I don’t futz around with its gearing as much. So perhaps
you might want one or two of these new Shimano single-speed freewheels
and Suntour, Shimano, and Sub 11.0 (Quality Bike Products) track cogs
for your own futzing pleasure.

As with my other sales, prices include shipping for buyers who cover the
Paypal fee, pictures on request, and questions quickly answered. Thanks
for looking!

Dave, who notes that the Sub 11.0 cogs were manufactured by or for QBP
in the U.S.

[RBW] Just noticed 2021 Homers have much steeper top tube than older models?

2022-02-14 Thread J. W.

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this forum. After years of coveting a
Riv, I ordered a Homer and my dealer expects delivery this spring. As I was
just checking geometry to make sure I have a stem of the right length ready
for my reach, I noticed that the 2021 model has a considerably steeper
slope to the top tube (looks like almost 12 degrees, compared to 6, if
bikeinsights has it right). I'm a bit shocked, as I hadn't realised there
would be such a difference, and I hadn't read anything about any big
changes (I know they posted the measurements, and it's on me for not doing
due diligence, but I would have thought such a big change would have
warranted mention on the Riv site, with maybe their thinking on why, and
perhaps some comparison photos). All my visual reference for what I had to
look forward to is now out of date and of course I'm second-guessing
myself, maybe I should have ordered a Sam instead -- I'm mostly a
one-bike-at-a-time guy and my current bike, which I've ridden for a long
time, has a horizontal tube, and I felt 6 degrees was already a big step
for me. But, by looking at and admiring a lot of people's builds I came to
see the slight slope as a good thing and I embraced my 6-degree-slopey
future, step boldly into the future etc.

Looking at the current photos on the Riv site, the Homer and the Sam have
exactly the same top-tube slope (if you compare the pictures taken in
profile they have models that line up perfectly -- switching back and forth
between tabs, once I got them lined up, shows that they are close to
identical), and they say there that the photos represent the 2021 geometry.
So what's going on? If the stack has been increased by as much as the
dimensions in the chart say, there's no way that those photos represent the
2021 geometry accurately. I don't know what to do now!

What do you think?

Jon

Re: [RBW] Suggestions for transporting a fat, tall, heavy wheel by bicycle?

2022-02-14 Thread Josiah Anderson
I've had good results carrying wheels horizontally by putting the rim
against the forward stop ("tombstone") of a rear rack and the axle with QR
hooked in front of the rearmost rail, held on by two toe straps or whatever
else is handy. I have no idea if your wheel and rack will match up in a way
that makes this possible. I've also made many backpack-type wheel carriers
out of stuff pulled from bike shop garbage cans: inner tubes as the straps
and a piece of cardboard as padding, attached using some combination of
knots and zip-ties.

[RBW] Please help me find my Platy!

2022-02-14 Thread katherine Evanskbe
Okay, so I finally know exactly the size I need for my bike. Unfortunately a 55
will not work for me :(. I went to my local bike shop to get my BPH measured
once again to be sure. I have very long legs, and my BPH is indeed 89, so I
definitely need a 60. I am so bummed as I loved that 55 that was listed!
I also talked to Vince at Riv and he concurred that I need a 60. He also
suggested I might be interested in a Cheviot . If anybody has any leads on
anything like this, I would very much appreciate it!!
Thanks so much!

[RBW] Re: Shimano V-Brake Mounting Bolts

2022-02-14 Thread Rob Kristoff
Hi Johnny,
Bike shops are out of a lot of things, but I can't imagine they don't have
brake mounting bolts at any local shop. (But then, there's a lot of things
about this latest bike boom I thought I'd never see, so...) I guess it
depends how particular you are about the bolts you get. I'm sure the OEM
bolts Shimano supplies
(https://cambriabike.com/products/shimano-xt-m750-739-v-brake-mounting-bolt)
could be a little rarer, but if you just need to mount the brakes, it
should be pretty simple. (These Shimano bolts may be what Garth's link
refers to, but I can't seem to get it to connect).

My formative experiences with Zen occurred when I lived in the City in
the late 80s/early 90s and sat at the Zen center regularly during this
time. This and S.Suzuki's 'beginner's mind' approach to Zen flavored my
view of the practice as a way to "engage with every activity with the same

 as
a method of focusing on the ways in which my body reacts to a tough hill,
frozen hands, thirst, or fatigue. There always seems to be another pedal
stroke at the bottom of that gaze. And, when the riding is easy, as I
mentioned above, breathing is a wonderful way to bring my attention to the
moment where brendanoid's 'constant birdsong' echos across Phillip's
'gritty industrial streets' as my wheels spin effortlessly.

 Cheers,
 John

[RBW] Shimano V-Brake Mounting Bolts

2022-02-14 Thread Johnny Alien
I have some Shimano LX V-brakes that I would like to use but realized that
I no longer have the mounting bolts. It doesn't look like this is an easy
to grab part and I am confused by what people on the internet say works and
doesn't work on the internet. Anyone know where to buy what will work?

Yeah, Mike! I continue to look at these pictures and think about Lyle's
Rambouillet quite a lot.

Re: [RBW] Re: Heterodoxy — reconciling RBW with the mainstream

2022-02-14 Thread larson....@gmail.com
Love this stuff and think it is a good reminder to us that we don’t need to
obsess over gear (although it is OK to do that as well!). I bought the
second Rough Stuff Fellowship book and am enjoying it very much. Reminds me
of riding around the farm as a kid - old single speed bike that I would
ride over the hill and through the woods on cow paths and field roads.
Sometimes I rode, sometimes I pushed or carried, but it was always an
adventure.
