Hi Matthew,

I've gone through 2 6416's from APS and also returned 2 others to
them, for credit, that were purchased by clients of mine.

Do you or Eric have an email address at Yamaha that people can write
to? Maybe they will move a bit faster if they get LOTS of inquires
about when they will produce a fix for their firmware.

Re: Weird 505 error?

2000-01-27 Thread Chris Chung

Hello again...

This is to add on to my original
problem... I'm not entirely sure if this has anything to do with my problem, but
it seems that our backup machine does not have a connection with the client
machine at all.  It does see all the other machines on the backup
though.  When I load up Retrospect, that client machine appears "not
connected", but I can connect to it (by clicking on the button).  However,
when I close Retrospect, and re-open it, the client machine appears "not
connected" again... *sigh*

We do have a firewall set up right now...
and all of the machines EXCEPT for that one client machine are behind it (the
client machine is on DHCP).  We're investigating this as a possible reason
for our dilemma...

Does anyone have any ideas on what's
going on?  Thanks in advance.

Chris.

All I can say is it works with the Mac version. I have three tape drives hooked up to
one machine with Retro 4.2A and it works just fine. Retro just seems to wait for the
correct tape to appear.

How Do I Control Multiple Tape Devices?

2000-01-27 Thread Terry Lee

Hi Folks,

This is my first post (I'm still learning a lot about Retrospect). I've
been called in to provide assistance in configuring our new company backup
strategy. Here's our first stumbling block: We can't seem to get
Retrospect Backup 5.0 to control two tape drives (one internal, one
external). First, I'd like to know if this is possible. If so, could
someone point me toward some quick and simple instructions on how to
accomplish this task. Here are some specifics:

Network: Windows NT 4.0 (SP5)
Server: Dell PowerEdge 6300
External: Sony AIT Autoloader Unit (TSL-SA300C)
Internal: Dell DLT Tape Drive

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Re: QUERY: CD-RW Yamaha S6416 mechanism problems??

2000-01-27 Thread Matthew Tevenan

Leonard,

I can't guarantee that a fix is imminent. Yamaha would be the people to ask
this one.

If Yamaha does release an update to the firmware of the Yamaha 6416 CD-RW
drive, rest assured Eric or I will tell the list shortly thereafter.

We are still hopeful of a fix for this problem, and do not consider the
removal of the 6416 from our supported devices list a "final" gesture by any
means.

Re: 6416 Yamaha again :-(

2000-01-27 Thread Matthew Tevenan

Jane,

The Yamaha 6416 is indeed no longer supported. That it still appears in the
Mac supported devices list seems to be an oversight. I'll make sure the
proper people are notified.

Even the latest Yamaha firmware, 1.0c, has this problem.

6416 Yamaha again :-(

2000-01-27 Thread Jane White

I'm more confused than ever. Dantz has been saying that they don't
support the 6416 Yamaha drive, and that certainly has been my
experience and the experience of many of us. However, I just
downloaded your list of supported drives, and lo and behold --
there's the Yamaha 6416 on the list!

I have the latest Retro driver 1.9 and the Yamaha firmware update. So
why doesn't it work I wonder?

Mine is an APS product, and they have said they are going to refund
my money. But if this can be made to work, I'd love to keep it.

I've done all the SCSI adjustments, but will work only with all SCSI
devices removed except the burner and by restarting with a limited
extension set. That makes it useless because I want to backup an
external drive and my PowerBook to the beige G3.

Any ideas?

Jane White

Regardless of the platform that you choose for your Server, it will backup Macintosh and Windows machines alike, including all files, and security. We are keeping our Macintosh systems for as long as we can, upgrading when necessary.

We are using the Windows 2000 operating system as early adopters. We have successfully tested and put into production the backup of many Windows 2000 machines using both the Retrospect Server 5.0 for Windows and Retrospect Server 4.2 for Macintosh. The latest Windows and Macintosh clients work flawlessly as well.

Just shows how well Macintosh and Windows applications and services shared between them can be co-developed and produce magnificent results.

Configuring Network subvolumes

2000-01-27 Thread Joseph D'Andrea

MacOS...

I have all my client's html in individual site folders within a one big
folder called 0.html

I only want to back up certain of those client folders. Some are developed
in house, and so they already have backups on the development machine(s)
and some clients don't want or don't want to pay for back-up.

In any event... you get the idea.

The way I have this set-up now is that I set each client folder (about 10
of them) that I want to backup to a certain color and have configured
0.html as a subvolume.

When the RS script runs, it scans every folder and every file in the 0.html
folder even though only about 1/3 of them are candidates for back-up.

I want to do this with less scanning time, so I though I could set up a
second folder called "ToBeBackedUp", amde it a subvolume and put in an
alias to the actual folder that I want to back up. This doesn't work
because it want to back-up the alias and not the actual files.

Short of making a subvolume for each client folder and doing 10 backups in
a row, is there any other way to do this?

Thanks,
___Joe___
