try to install in LMS a different version of UpNpBridge in my linux

First of all: I have an old Linux Computer with LMS and Hqplayerd. In
the Plugin config the selected binary is squeee2upnp*linux-x86_64 and
UpNp 2.1.12
Now i'm working on a new computer so i'm rebuilding a system Mint 21

UpnpBridge, actually 1.82.2.

Assuming that the "mkdir" failed because the directory already existed
... then ... that should have worked.
However, LMS might be showing the version number from a previous
installation because it did not manage the install that you made (I do
not remember if it opens up the plugin install.xml to find it when you
list the plugins).

But ... the version that you wanted to install is the one that I am
running here and I did not install it by hand.
I simply added Philippe's dev repository link to my LMS plugins page (at
the bottom) and then LMS offered me that version instead of the released
version. That is the usual way to do it.

Do you have a special reason to want to install by hand?

sudo -s

systemctl stop logitechmediaserver

cd /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

mkdir UPnPBridge

cd UPnPBridge

unzip /var/tmp/ UPnPBridge-2.1.12.11.zip

chown -R squeezeboxserver:nogroup .

But no way. Actually the plugin remain version 1.82.2
Whats the problem?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Manually installing plugin zips

2020-11-21 Thread Michael Herger

What's the workflow creating a zip from git for manual installation?

That really depends on how you've organized your files. I basically do

zip -r9 MyPlugin-1.2.3.zip MyPlugin

That's it. Sure, I have script which would then create the checksum etc.
upload stuff etc. But that is my workflow, not THE workflow.

Not all files from the git repo land into the zip. And then sometimes
the zip s get restructured
E.g. on the LocalPlayer Plugin the binary locations get reorganized.

That really is up to the plugin author. My repository usually is pretty
much what ends up in the plugin archive. There might be some helper
files which don't get packaged. But I try to be able to simply checkout
a plugin repository to the Plugins folder and fire LMS up.

E.g. The LocalPlayer plugin supplies it's own binaries. Where do you
folks keep the sources
respectively recipes to build them?? I havn't seen anything on the
LocalPlayer plugin over
at the community plugin github page that refers to binary sources.

For squeezelite there's a repository maintained by Ralphy. You should
get in touch with him.

Yep. That works now. As a matter of fact I had a messed up situations
because I was copying
my changes over the original installed LocalPlayer plugin, which was
locate under ./cache/...
I found some dead config bodies in the related config files. No surprise
it all had to be wiped out.

However.

Disabling the plugin >> updating the plugin code >> restarting the
server >> enabling the updated plugin

seems to work for me.

Can't we write all that down somewhere?

Anyhow.

I have another question. (Slightly off topic)

Ah binaries!?!?? ( Sorry for being slightly off topic here once more,
it still affects the github handling and packaging of my
updated and manually installed plugin)

It all wasn't that easy. I am working on changes to the LocalPlayer
Plugin (introducing aarch64) btw.

I figured I had to wipe the prefs/cache/db directory under /var/lib/lms,
basically starting lms from scratch, to get going.

Well... no, that wasn't necessary. All you'd have to do is uninstall the
plugin using LMS' plugin manager, restart LMS, extract the plugin,
restart LMS again.

The problem is, and I've written this many times before: don't mess with
the plugin manager's folders in the cache folder. If you do so, you'll
feel the urge to wipe everything, because it's not easy to get out of
the mess you create by messing with those folders :-).

FWIW: I'm doing this all the time. Most of my plugins actually are
symlinks to a git clone folder put in the Plugins folder. By
adding/removing the links I can quickly add/remove plugins during
development.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Manually installing plugin zips

Thx Michael.

That's exactly how it works on my LMS8.0 RPiOS64 (Debian) installation.

"Settings/Information" shows "/usr/share/lms/Plugins" as plugin
location.

Putting the unzipped plugin dir-structure and content there will
load the plugin after LMS restart.

The $LMSHOME/Plugins dir didn't exist. It had to be created.

All folders/files had to be configured with the right $LMSUSER
ownership.

What I found a bit odd is that the manually installed and loaded plugins
doesn't show
up in the "./cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins" folder.

It works anyway.

I havn't tested yet what happens if you install a 3PPlugin from the LMS
repo
which has the same name as the manually installed plugin.
That might happen if you work on enhancements/corrections on an existing
plugin.

Thx again.

See Settings/Information. There's a section which would list the plugin

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Manually installing plugin zips

2019-01-05 Thread squeezehouse

I figured out how I can install the Denon AVP Plugin with mostly the
graphical interface of Ubuntu 18.04. This will certainly also work for
other plugins that can no longer be found in the online repositories:

Before installing the LMS onto a blank system I created a new user
"squeezeboxserver" in the Ubuntu Settings-Details-Users section and
assigned a password.

I then switched to the just generated user and installed the logitech
media server according to this guide:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Debian_Package

Thereafter I pulled the plugin from the google archive:
https://storage.googleapis.com/google-code-archive-downloads/v2/code.google.com/denonavpcontrol/DenonAvpControl_1_9_2.zip

I was now able to unzip, extract the whole folder to the path
"/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins".

After a restart of the LMS "sudo service logitechmediaserver stop",
"sudo service logitechmediaserver start" the plugin showed up as active
in the LMS web interface settings "Plugins" tab.

I could now safely return to my default Ubuntu user.
LMS and the plugin will automatically start up after a re-boot, logging
in to the "squeezeboxserver" account is not necessary.

I hope this will help other noobs that run into the same problem. I will
re-post my finding in the "Manually installing plugin zips" thread.

Isn't google an amazing tool? Took me about 30 seconds to find this.

Just giving you all the options.

The local repo is not that difficult - IIRC when plugin manager was
just released, Triode created a Perl script which would take a directory
of plugin zip files and create a repository XML.

The plugins will only need to be installed once in a blue moon since
armageddon has happened and nobody is developing anymore so it is not
essential to have internet on 24/7 just to have a repository online most
of the time. It will simplify installation instead of unzipping all the
plugins and stop you wondering whether you have installed them in the
"right" place.

Alternatively keep your repository on your own unbuntu system and start
up a HTTP server from the directory which has the repository whenever
you need to install (e.g. cd /home/myrepository ; python -m
SimpleHTTPServer )

Create your own repository on sourceforge by copying all the plugin zips
you want to keep safe on to a sourceforge project. Then create an
repository xml file referencing all the plugins in your repository (this
will need some text editing on local PC before uploading to your
sourceforge project ) . When armageddon comes - add your repository url
to the plugins as a 3rd party repository.

Never touched by Debian or LMS upgrade, never touched by anything (other

Just make sure lms (user squeezeboxserver has read/execute permissions)

No, that's perfect. Check Settings/Information for the plugins folders.
Pick the one ending in Plugins, BUT not the one in the cache. Unzip the
plugin to that folder, so you end up with
Plugins/WhateverPlugin/Plugin.pm and all the oder sub-folders and files.

If in doubt start LMS with server.plugins set to debug.

As I said before "The LMS subdirectory Plugins (usually at same level as

Just unzip into Plugins directory - in the end the "top-level" Plugins
directory should look exactly the same as the present
Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins directory in terms of contents and
subdirectory levels.

Where should I extract a plugin zip file to if I want (or need) to

I'm on Ubuntu as well but I do a "custom" install so directory structure
does not match yours (or anybody's for that matter).

Don't look in Slim/Plugin unless you want to look at LMS bundled plugin
code such as Extensions for the plugin manager.

After plugin manager was installed - user were discouraged from doing
manual plugins as usually they messed them up such as accidentlally
install a plugin in Slim/Plugin - as the name seems to be the same.

The "top level " Plugins directory is not touched.
The Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins directory may be deleted (it is in
Cache) so I think you are mixed up which "Plugins" directory.
The cotents of Cache/DownloadedPlugins is also transient - it is where
plugin manager will download a plugin "package" from repository before
installing it.

The Installed/Plugins directory is used by the "extension" plugin which
is the plugin manager and I cant remember the workign but it will
dedlete and install plugins in this directory - so do not use for
manually installed.

The LMS subdirectory Plugins (usually at same level as convert.conf) and
is for manual installed user plugins.

The LMS subdirectory Slim/Plugin is to be only used by LMS bundled
plugins - *no* manually installed user plugins.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Manually installing plugin zips

2017-12-18 Thread PasTim

As a precaution against third party websites becoming unavailable I
downloaded the plugin zips I use most often (using lms_extensions.xml as
the source of the urls). I then thought I should try and install a
plugin manually, just to ensure I know how. I have previously gone
through a rather convoluted process using a local apache web server,
copying parts of lms_extensions.xml to my own repo list, changing the
plugin url to a local one, and then adding the local repo to the plugins
page.

I'm sure there must be an easier way, but I have clearly been labouring
under either old information or misapprehension about how to do this. I
thought that one was meant to copy the zip to
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins, and unzip it there, expecting LMS to
copy it all to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/Installed/Plugins and
delete the version in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins. It seems I was
wrong. The plugin stays installed in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins,
which I believe is incorrect.

I've searched this forum but failed to find instructions.

Can someone help me? What is the correct procedure for manually install
a plugin zip?
