I do not know about waterfox. alsa with apulse? Be that as it may. I had

the location of the file, SM is printing to, is, you can do this:

Open about:config in the browser part of SM and there type in the Search

So there is an oddity. One of the references is your MID. The second
one? I suspect this comes from the mailing list which is connected with
this news group.

Nevertheless, that would not explain the problem. The way Walt suggested
can sometimes solve similar problems. Sometimes, perhaps most, but not
always. Unsubscribing and resubscribing the NG may also be enough. But
that too may not suffice.

Well, there was a time when 'Repair Folder' didn't exist and you had to
use a Holzhammer to be sure. Sorry for the word, probably there exists
an English equivalent. *g* It means: use force.

Close SM. Go to your profile, then in the folder News. There you will
find the file newsrc-news.mozilla.org. In this file there is a line
regarding this NG. In my case it is

mozilla.support.seamonkey: 1-113754

Edit this line. Delete all from (inclusive) the first number until the
end of the line. That would leave you with mozilla.support.seamonkey: .

Then go to the sub-folder news.mozilla.org and delete the file
mozilla.support.seamonkey.msf.

I haven't used this approach for a very long time. Should still work.

First step should be to determine the root of the problem. aioe does not

So there exists indeed a pref. id3 obviously belongs to news.mozilla.org
on my machine. What you need is a standard value for the server and
different values for some newsgroups.

Sounds like a MailNewsEnhancement. That one could be spelled as mnenh.
Append an y and you have mnenhy. *g*

Mnenhy can indeed set prefs for individual folders. Here is an example
from the profile of my last working SM-Trunk:

http://www.triffids.de/pub/screenshot/mn200109.png

There are caveats. Mnenhy is not maintained for a long time so I had to
modify it. If you are interested I can give you the URL. But it is a
private modification which works for me and some others.

It may be that you have questions. If so, ask.

Done. No improvement. Therefore tested in a new profile. Now the time

Compare that with the original window:

At the moment I have no idea why there are different download windows in
the 2 profiles. So far I have determined that it has nothing to do with
the choice of Default or Modern theme. Also the value of

ui.allow_platform_file_picker

does not matter. Filing a bug makes no sense unless I have found the
reason why. Probably something in the prefs.js. Relatively easy to
determine. If that proves to be correct then a n/2 approach on the

There is another way to achieve what you want. First, close SM and make
a backup of your prefs.js. In my current profile there are these lines
in the prefs.js:

user_pref("mail.account.account1.server", "server1");
user_pref("mail.account.account2.identities", "id1");
user_pref("mail.account.account2.server", "server2");
user_pref("mail.account.account3.identities", "id2");
user_pref("mail.account.account3.server", "server3");
user_pref("mail.account.account4.identities", "id3");
user_pref("mail.account.account4.server", "server4");
user_pref("mail.account.account5.identities", "id4");
user_pref("mail.account.account5.server", "server5");
user_pref("mail.account.lastKey", 6);
user_pref("mail.accountmanager.accounts",
"account1,account2,account3,account4,account5");

Edit your prefs.js by changing the order in the last pref. Start SM and
look if the order of accounts is now what you want.

In case you messed up, close SM and replace the modified prefs.js with
the backup.

I admit I haven't done such a manipulation for many years, but I seem to
remember that it worked. Any way, you have your backup. :)

Important changes are mentioned in the files 'notiz' in the different
subfolders. They relate to changes regarding the previous version.

It may be necessary to set certain prefs for a successful installation.
Since I had no problems to test that in a fresh profile in SM-2.53.1
those prefs seem to have the required default values there.

Don't know about SM-2.49.x, but AFAIR someone has mentioned to still use
the .h2. The .h4 should be downward compatible to the .h2. Should. ;)

Remember, the modifications are intended for private use only.

They don't suffice for the current TB and may not suffice for the
upcoming SM-2.57. In the latter case it is possible that there will be a
.h5. The 'notiz' then will probably only contain 'many changes'. :)

Mnenhy was abandoned. I didn't want to be without so I modified it. For
private use only. Well, I shared it with others, eventually, and they
seem to use it without problems for SM-2.49.x.

For me, I have used it until the last usable SM-Trunk and am now using
the .h4 for SM-2.53. It doesn't work for the current TB, but since I am
not using that... ;)

I have just installed the .h4 in a fresh profile of my 2.53.1 without

Among other possibilities you can choose 'size' instead of the default

That one I had discovered yesterday via Ixquick and it was very useful
because it mentioned and linked to Mercurial bundles. I was desperate
because determining the reason why my builds failed proved nearly
impossible and I wished to test with a fresh source.

Cloning mozilla-central failed at the stage of getting files. What a
blessing that there were the bundles. :)

It emerged that indeed the old source was corrupt, caused by
"./mach bootstrap --no-system-changes" which was recommended in
mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird.

Now I could search for the original bustage. With "./mach configure".
Success. I have successfully built TB-Trunk and SM-Trunk. SM-2.53 and
SM2.57 must wait because Bill's site is down.

The real cause is a Bug in Build-Config in TB and SM. Too early to file
it, needs more investigation and perhaps a patch.

In that case only Netflix would see this UA, all others should not be

I had this problem when migrating from SM-2.56a1 to SM-2.53. Because the

For the passwords IIRC I had to copy key4.db and logins.json. After

Export your bookmarks as HTML, make a backup, import them in the

There is one problem with importing the new list. You did make a backup

SM, Linux and sound. Regarding Alsa & Pulseaudio

2019-05-12 Thread Hartmut Figge
Greetings,

SM-2.57 from Bill can play no sound in the browser on a Linux using Alsa
instead of Pulseaudio. That is as expected. Tested with youtube. Now,
curious as I sometimes am, a question came up and didn't stop bothering me.

What has TB done about the problem Alsa/Pulseaudio? Yes, there is use
for sound in TB. The notification of incoming mail can play a sound. So
I fetched the last Daily, selected klingeln.wav and clicked on play. It
worked. No problem with my Alsa.

Hm.

Next step. SM-2.57 cannot use MailNes, but under Preferences there is
Notifications for incoming mail. Choosing klingeln.way, clicking play
and ... it worked. Astonishing.

So it seems 2.57 *can* use Alsa. If it chooses. :-)

At the moment I am scratching my head.

A possibility.

Mozilla has abandoned the support for Alsa. I noticed that at a time
when I still could use SM-Trunk. My choice was to switch from Alsa to
Pulseaudio, cease to use Mozilla or find a workaround.

At the moment the future of SM is not clear. The 2.57 may come, but
after that? I may have to cease using SM anyway. For the time being, I
am using private builds which can use Alsa. Since SM-Trunk is no longer
usable I have now switched to 2.53.

There may be others who do not like Pulseaudio. For those who have to
choose also I have tried to find a way building 2.57 which could use
both Alsa and Pulseaudio.

That is work. For me personally I am happy with my own private builds
which use Alsa. So I have another choice. Should I just stay with my own
builds and forget about others?

No I have build a 2.57 with these options

# ac_add_options --disable-pulseaudio
ac_add_options --enable-alsa

The entry with pulseaudio is commented out and therefore not active. As
expected the build failed with

 0:12.71 checking MOZ_ALSA_LIBS... -lasound
 0:12.72 checking for libpulse... Package libpulse was not found in the
pkg-config search path.
 0:12.72 Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libpulse.pc'

 0:12.72 No package 'libpulse' found
 0:12.72 configure: error: pulseaudio audio backend requires libpulse
development package

So I installed pulseaudio. That does not mean that I could hear sound
using pulseausio, though. *g*

This time the build succeeded. No sound in this build. So I removed
pulseaudio and tried again. Success. With this build sound should work
on Linux using alsa.

But what with a system using pulseaudio? If there are Linux users using
pulseaudio, it would be nice, if someone tested this build for sound.

E.g. using youtube. Remember, that in 2.57 the MailNews part does not
work. Only the browser should be tested.

WARNING!
Don't use an existing profile. Use a new one. Unpack the .tar.bz2
somewhere in $HOME, navigate to the appropriate place and start the
build with ./seamonkey -no-remote -p. This opens the 2.57 into the
profile manager where you can create a new profile and start it there.

The -no-remote part is in case you have already another SM running.

ac_add_options --enable-alsa

I have sound in my 2.57. That is fine for a private build, but
otherwise... hm.

The problem is solved in SM-253. Like FRG wrote there is now a checkbox
in Appearances. LC_MESSAGES is part of the Linux Environment, determines
the language in which programs like e.g. compilers communicate.

I have deliberatedly set it to en-US. All other values are German.

hafi@i5-64 ~ $ locale
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_PAPER="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

SM-2.53 will surely be not so exiting as SM-Trunk regarding bugs. *g*

No. Needs

ac_add_options --disable-pulseaudio
ac_add_options --enable-alsa

I'll have to test 2.57 for that.

I just remembered this problem happened some time ago on Trunk.

Sorry, in German. Written by ma and I had totally forgotten. *g*

The gist is

intl.locale.matchOS has to be set to true
and
LC_MESSAGES
must be set appropriate.

Works. Now to the problem of no sound in 2.53.

SM-2.53: dateformat

2019-05-08 Thread Hartmut Figge
Greetings,

my 2.53 displays date in the thread pane in this way:

5/8/19 6.21 PM

for me in Germany it should be this way:

08.05.19, 18:21

I'm using the same user.js as in my 2.56a1 where the display is as
wanted. After asking in a German NG I append my user.js so:

user_pref("mail.ui.display.dateformat.default", 2);
user_pref("mail.ui.display.dateformat.today", 0);
user_pref("mail.ui.display.dateformat.thisweek", 1);

and now I get

6:21 PM

Seems to be a problem with the localization. Or I am mising something.
What to do? Bug?
