would it be difficult to change the * key function from Expand Thread

I believe I am not sure / and \ is not allowed in file names its one of

newsgroups and email.

Currently (well in SM 1.1.15, at least), if you are in a news group and
press the * key, all threads are expanded, and the if you press \ you
can collapse all threads.

I'm just suggesting, if they cannot use * and / (because the / key
is/was used for a particular function), then, maybe, just make the * key
a toggle, first time open all threads, second time collapse all threads,
third time open all threads, etc., etc.

Add a new Newsgroups account

2009-12-04 Thread Olivier Sannier

Hello all,

I can't seem to be able to add a new account to SM2.
I click on the add account button in the settings dialog, and it
launches the wizard.
But it does not ask me what kind of account I want to create. If I go to
the end of the wizard, it modifies the last account in the list and
creates nothing.

Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Just as a note, I think it's clear to most people here, but I want to
clearly state that we're of course not bringing the old form manager
back - what we are considering (and we talked about that from the first
minute, releasing 2.0 at all was just higher priority) is to
integrate/adopt/build a new form data management that allows viewing,
searching and deleting stored form data, similar (perhaps basing on)
that existing add-on out there (can't remember the name right now) - you
probably know which one I'm talking about.

Also, we might look into possibilities to fill out multiple form fields
with saved data at once, but we can't guarantee we find or adopt a good
solution for that.

I think that's exactly what Philip explained, just wanted to make that
clear to put into perspective what is being reconsidered means here.

And, this is of course stuff for a 2.1, which still has a few months
until it comes out, and, also of course, help from you in the community
is highly wanted on this!

Robert Kaiser

I am not say bring back the old code. That's silly.
What I am saying is for two or three sit down and run SM 1.1.18 and the
Forms Manager (and other options) and see what it actually does. If I
could figure out how to open a copy without downloading some emails I
would have to copy over, I'd open the old forms Manager and takes some
screen shots.

I am all for progress and if you can come up with new code to mimic it
great. What gets at my craw is because the developers don't use a
Feature they assume no one use that feature.

What needs to be done is when creating a design is a year before the new
design is to hit the air waves is is for the old version be opened and
each menu item and preference be documented on paper and Items that
would be useful for the messes of users figure out a way to do the same
or similar in the new one.

The forum Manager must have been useful for even FireFox, or some
enterprising young person (or creaky old man for that matter) would not
have come up with an extension. As soon as I found out about forms
history Manager I downloaded it and installed it, in a Heart beat. It is
not quite as easy to use as the previous, but I will make do. I have no
choice.

The problem with software design is everyone takes a meat axe approach
whacking way and removing anything and everything the developers don't
like, or don't use and see no use for. when the should be using a
scalpel approach. Features were originally put in for a purpose. To make
the user life better when using a browser or email Client. Developers
should think like end users. Especially open Source developers where
they are coding for the users; as opposed to the investors, and BOD,
rather than the customers for purchased software.

One reason I am such a poster boy for Forms Manager. Is I unlike most
here are, I am not perfect. I make typing mistakes all the time.
especially since I am a hunt and peck typist. I went to school back in
the day when your manhood was question if you took typing, and I never
was any great shakes at English, composition, and especially spelling.
So it very easy and quite common to make mistakes in spelling. In fact
with the Forms history extension I've already corrected a bunch of
mistakes and need to run it again to tweak some more as I've added more
entries.

As an example I was a big fan of intuits Quicken from the day it was
first introduced. I have quit using it in last few years when they
changed the file format the banks were suppose to use to send and
receive information about my accounts, to my quicken software. Well my
bank is many of the 100's if not thousands of Banks that have refused to
switch over. First because that means new software they must deploy and
previously Intuit was just supplying it now they have to pay hundreds of
dollars for it. Quicken has lost a big following.

OK, you're probably technically right at the machine level, that a

In one case, I had a troublesome message in Drafts for several weeks

I dunno, I don't generally hem and haw over NG postings, and I hardly

Doesn't it let you close the preview pane (where messages display) by
clicking the divider or dragging it to the edge of the window? That's
what I've been doing for years in SeaMonkey 1, Mozilla, and even

accounts 3 news servers and more than 50 email filters on my primary
account. I spend much of my day working in Seamonkey.

I had not done extensive testing of pre-release versions. I did run the
RCs.

I have found no major problems so far and my migration was trouble free
even if it was exceptionally long, Perhaps my easy adaption is because I
also use Firefox and Thunderbird regularly.

I see many small improvements and linke any new software a few things
I'll have to get used to,

I am extremely excited to have Lightning available and most of my issues
have been minor UI issues related to Lightning integration and my
unfamiliarity with tabbed mail, which I'm still struggling to use
effectively. I put that down to it being new both to me and to SeaMonkey.

improving that situation further in the future.

From all we know, using 2.0 is safer in terms of profile data than

YES, some bugs are fixed other than those in Gecko for Firefox.

The bug list I posted earlier gives an overview of everything fixed in

Can't speak for v. 2, but in v. 1, when the divider reaches the edge of

clicked it or dragged it, the messages don't open. At least SeaMonkey
doesn't think it's opening them -- if I click on a subject line with the

I'm not talking about shrinking the preview pane to a nonzero size,

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4)
Gecko/20091017 SeaMonkey/2.0

Works for me.

However, after loading the page, I got a popup (although I have popups
blocked). The title bar said The page at http://servscanner03.com
says: The content said Warning!!! Your personal computer needs to
install antivirus software. Antivir can perform fast and free virus and
malicious software scan of your computer. When I selected the Cancel
button, some kind of scan started anyway. I killed it. I then searched
for any new .exe or .dll files, but I found none.

I have AVG installed. Although I just updated AVG a few days ago, I'm
updating it again. I will then scan my whole PC.

In the meantime, I added http://servscanner03.com to my Adblock Plus
filter.

I got the same thing. I got rid of it by adding it to my HOSTS. But,
still no Politico homepage. I've notified them of that and of their
obnoxious popup. Now I'll be doing a disk scan, too.

This has always been like that, afaik. Just enclose your url in
brackets and common mail/news-readers will be able to recognize
multilined links/urls.
example:
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3campid=5336224516toolid=10001customid=tiny-hpext=unicyclesatitle=unicycle

Also, I can't seem to find the setting Forward messages as
inline|attachment. It's defaulting to attachments, which is also ugly.

I've been over all the options in the UI and can't find any settings to
be able to change either of these behaviors.

Maybe you're getting old and in the need of glasses ;-)

SM 2.0 is beginning to seem like a step backward more and more.

No, it's you ;-P

In SM 1.1.18 and below typing or copying a link as long as above would
not break and would be a continuous line such as above.

I have noticed though SM2 does break it but remains active or if it
breaks while typing it does show at destination as one continuous link.

Try venerable modern by SailFish. It pretty good. the best ever theme

The answer is YES, YES, and YES, if you compare to SeaMonkey 2.0
final, and that's what counts in the end, right?

Are you saying that ALL bugs are fixed ? Unbelievable !

What do you mean by ALL, Ray??

Do you think that Robert is stating that SM 2.0.1 will be perfect, never
to have anything found wrong with it in the future?

I would suggest that Robert is merely saying that some of the faults,
those that have so far been detected, will be fixed in SM 2.0.1.

In a years time, someone, somewhere may still find a bug in SeaMonkey
X.x.x, and at that time, the great gang of fella's that do the work on
SM will set about fixing those faults.

Works correctly here

Seamonkey 1.1.18
Win7 pro

It only works because your user agent string reports Firefox, not
SeaMonkey. Heck, here it is from your headers:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.23)
Gecko/20090825 Firefox/2.0.0.7

Blast it, it says Firefox, not SeaMonkey. That is the only reason it
works for you.

Open 1.1.18, click ToolsSwitch Profile. Use that to open Profile
Manager. Create a new profile, call it Test. Open 1.1.18 in that test
profile, and try to get into the sites you say work. You will fail.
Click About SeaMonkey and check the string. It will say SeaMonkey
1.1.18, not Firefox 2.0.0.7.

Try it and lets put this nonsense to rest.

No joke. Actually, it's quite sad.

Bug #330094 was originally written 10 March 2006 against Camino 1.0.
Later on that same date, it was updated to report the same problem with
Firefox.

Bug #331019 was written on 19 March 2006, reporting the same problem in
Firefox 1.5.0.1. This was immediately determined to be a duplicate of
bug #330094, which caused the latter's Product to be changed from Camino
to Core (i.e., Gecko).

On 10 October 2007, it was finally determined that bug #330094 is not a
Mozilla problem but is actually a problem within
http://online.tvguide.com/listings/. The Product was changed from
Core to Tech Evangelism.

So this problem was first noted 3-1/2 years ago and was finally found to
be a TV Guide problem 2 years ago. I don't use the TV Guide site, so I
haven't communicated the problem to them. Has anyone else tried to
bring this to the attention of TV Guide?
