2020-02-28 Thread Anant Thazhemadam
Hello. I'm Anant Thazhemadam, an undergrad from Bangalore, India, majoring
in Computer Science and Engineering, with a minor in Electronics and
Communication Engineering.
I've been exposed to Python, and been involved with development using
Python for about 2 years now.
Although I'm not particularly well versed with SciPy, I would love to get
my share of hands on experience with it, by helping and contributing in
whatever ways I could.
I'm interested in algorithms, mathematics (leaning a little towards the
linear algebra domain and genre), and am also passionate about trying to
find out and learn more about how program, and technological-community
based development occurs in in the real world. I would love to begin
contribution, and would greatly appreciate it, if somebody count point me
in which direction it would be best for a novice such as myself to start
from, and also help me. Also, I'm hoping to put in a stellar proposal for
GSoC, so any pointers/nudges towards that would be highly valued as well.

I am Karan Dixit, a third year undergraduate student of Computer Science at Sir
M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology,Bangalore. I am enthusiastic about
participating in Google Summer of Code and contributing to SymPy.
Especially, I am interested in the expansion of Sympy's solver functions
and would like to work on it and would like to solve lambert equation for
transolve.
I have 2 year of experience in writing Python codes and have done
competitive coding in python. I`m also very good at mathematics and,
especially, calculus, algebra and combinatorics . I also have some knowledge
of set theory ,probability and statistics.
I have read some books on algebra and calculus during my first and second

[sympy] Introduction to Sympy Community

2020-01-09 Thread Adarsh Kumar
Hello Everyone,

I am Adarsh Kumar, 2nd year undergraduate student in Mathematics and
Computing at IIT Kharagpur. I want to contribute Sympy for this year's
GSoC. Some of the relevant information about me are as follows:
1. I have around 2 years of programming experience, working with Python, C,
C++.
2.I have deep interest in Algorithms, Machine Leaning, Deep Learning, and
Mathematics, have strong hold over Python.
3. In Mathematics, I am particularly interested in Uni-variate and
Multivariate Calculus, Differential Equations and Probability.
4. In the past, I have completed college level courses on Ordinary and
Partial Differential Equations,Transform Calculus, and Design and Analysis
of Algorithms. Currently I am doing courses on Probability and Statistics,
Numerical Solution for Partial Differential Equations, and Discrete
Mathematics. I also have done Introductory course on Linear Algebra.
4. I don't have much experience working with SymPy in the past. But I am
quite eager to learn that.

I also have some queries in my mind:
1. For GSoC, can our proposal address more than one Ideas, as given in GSoC
ideas page?
2. Where to look up, if a particular algorithm is already implemented or
not, other than in Documentation?
3. Can someone please suggest some good sources to develop a proper
understanding of 'Computer Algebra'?

Regards
Adarsh Kumar

We have been developing a package for fluid mechanics for a year, which
depends heavily on SymPy.

Our expertise is in fluid mechanics and chemical engineering, and education
level varies from Ph.B to Ph.D.

Our interest is focused on enhancing the extendability of SymPy (which is
already great!).

Hello everyone,

I'm a fourth year undergraduate student at IIIT Allahabad majoring in
Information Technology. I've done prior coursework in Soft Computing and
Deep Learning as part of my curriculum which involved assignments using
Python, Numpy and Tensorflow. I've also done projects using the Django
framework. I had Linear Algebra as part of my coursework in second year.
I'm getting familiar with Sympy and I look forward to contributing to it.

2019-12-24 Thread Hashara Kumarasinghe
I am Hashara Kumarasinghe, a 2nd year undergraduate at the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. I have
had experience in programming with python since 2017. For programming
contests like IEEEXtreme, I always choose python as the programming
language. I have studied combined mathematics and physics for GCE AL 2016.
I have taken Engineering mathematics, Numerical Methods for Computer
Science, Calculus for System Modelling, Graph Theory for Computing as maths
modules in the past semesters and this semester (semester 4) I am studying
Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and Applications. I am quite
familiar with mathematical symbols and notations and would like to
contribute to sympy as I'm looking forward to do programming while also
using my knowledge in mathematics. Currently, I am getting familiar with
sympy and looking forward to contributing to the community.
Please guide me further.

Regards,
Hashara Kumarasinghe

[sympy] Introduction to SymPy community for GSOC 2019

2019-03-22 Thread Mohit Balwani
Dear all,
My name is Mohit Balwani and I am a second year Information and
Communication Technology undergraduate from Adani Institute of
Infrastructure Engineering (Gujarat Technological University) India.

I have 4 years of experience of coding in Python and have excelled in all
mathematics related courses. I have studied (including both High School and
College). I have particularly high proficiency in Mathematics (qualified
for Mathematics Olympiad at the regional level) as well as Physics.
Moreover, I love learning about differential equations and calculus.
Furthermore, I have done a few projects on Machine learning in Python.

I am relatively familiar with the SymPy code base and have also made a
contribution regarding a bug fix. I am keenly interested in ODE and
Solver's projects. I would like some guidance regarding how to move ahead
with these projects. I am very enthusiastic about becoming a part of SymPy.

This is my GitHub profile: https://github.com/Mohitbalwani26

Thank you.

[sympy] Introduction to the community

2019-03-05 Thread abishek . seshan2017
Hello everyone,

I am Abishek Seshan, a 2nd year Computer Science undergrad in VIT Chennai.
I have always been extremely passionate about mathematics, and that's
exactly what led me here. I have been programming(mainly mathematical
problem solving) in C++/Python for over 3 years now and have recently
started to learn about development programming and ML.

Calculus(integral and differential) and Number theory are some of my
favorite areas in mathematics and I consider myself to be "fairly" well
versed in them. I chose to be a part of Sympy community for GSOC'19 since
there are many amazing project ideas that piqued my interest, and I'd love
to contribute in any way I can. This is my first time in GSOC and since I'm
new to Github and Open Source, I intend to make the most of this
experience. I haven't previously worked with Sympy but have already started
to get to know about it. I'd be obliged if someone shows me the way so that
I can start contributing.

Regards.
Abishek Seshan

[sympy] Introduction to the community.

2017-12-23 Thread Thomas Favory
Hi,

My name is Thomas. I have a degree in Mathematics and Statistics. However,
I cannot recall my courses with symbolic math systems. I used to do some
statistical analysis with R, and I have been interested in Python for a
about a year now.

I am enthusiastic about SymPy since a couple of weeks because it could help
running simulations for my research in Microeconomics. The topic is called
consumer search. Basically, people need to sample some shops before buying
stuff. Their search process depends on a probability distribution that
tells the satisfaction a shop provides.

I live in Australia and I speak French.

I am looking forward to being part of the SymPy adventure.

Cheers,
Thomas

[sympy] Introduction to Sympy Community About Issue #3385: Remove deprecated tsolve()

2013-12-07 Thread faisal anees
Hi All,

I am Mohammed Faisal Anees, a second year undergrad at International
Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). I am new to the
Open Source community, and since being comfortable with Python, I have
chosen Sympy to begin with.

I have read the documentation, and have set up the development environment
according to the development workflow. After going through the Issues page,
I have found issue #3385
https://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=3385 interesting and
suitable for my level.

I have found the source for the tsolve() function, but i am doubtful that
it will be enough if I just remove/comment out the source code of the
function . I guess there will be other functions dependent on the tsolve
function (Sorry, I might be wrong too). So how do I find those parts of the
code dependent on the tsolve function ?

Looking forward for further contributions to Sympy.

Thank You
