RE: WE
In the case of Web Root Security Anywhere, it was not white-listed. This means that the antivirus software grabs some of the DLL files and corrupts your installation of WE. We know this as we have experience with it on both a Windows 8.1 machine as well as a Windows 10 machine. Chris Grabowski confirmed that this product did not white-list WE. We finally got Web Root Security Anywhere removed from both machines with the help of Best Buy's Geek Squad. Once this was done, Ray re-installed 9.0 on the Windows 8.1 machine and downloaded 9.3 and all is working as it should. He was unable to use the installation he had on our external hard drive as Web Root corrupted that installation. For this reason, he went to AI Squared's website and downloaded 9.3 for my Windows 10 mahine as the method he used for the Windows 8.1 machine would not work. I am happy to say that I am now running WE 9.3 on this machine and I'm one happy camper. If anyone offers you Web Root Security Anywhere, run from it as it grabs DLL files and corrupts your WE installation. Hi Nick: That is true indeed. There are some Internet and other things WindowEyes handles better than the other readers, not many but some. The point for me is that no matter who is creating software it should flat out work properly or it is not ready for prime time production. With a screen reader that is almost impossible since they have to deal with other peoples work, people who create the programs the screen reader is trying to read and navigate. This, however, is no excuse but a valid reason for some problems that a screen reader with a limited staff just wont be able to address for every individual client and every individual third party program. That is why management is so important, that is it has to Organize, prioritize and Implement those features deemed most important to their clients. For a screen reader company I would guess it is to get every window in the Windows Operating System working very, very well, then the Internet and then other third party applications like Office and only then develop for other third party applications. I would stress the entire Microsoft Platform, all programs Microsoft puts out as my first priority with an eye twoard a few other very popular programs but then I am not the top dog anyplace nor would I want to be - allot of stress indeed. But there is money in making professional tools and popular programs accessible and before you ever touch a keyboard as a developer you do a cost / benefit analysis of the project even if just an informal discussion and Microsoft and a few non Microsoft programs are widely used in business, industry and Finance and that is where the bulk of my work would be targeted since Government and Industry will pay for the screen reader that works the best with packages their employees use and greenies are, despite some people, very very important to the survival of any company. No company, no screen reader. I would also let my client base know what is on the table for review like in an agile project management senario so they get an idea of what is high priority and what is low priority to have an open discussion of what and why some things may, or not, get addressed in the near to intermediate future - at least I would try that out to help get more input of real value from my client base if I were a small development team with limited resources or I think I would try it - perhaps not just never been there done that. Anyway, you are correct but for the fact that WE does not work flawlesly with the Windows10 operating system in my opinion and that in my case would be job1 with the internet job2 which also seems to need some work. We're Back Up on Window-Eyes
Hello All: Some of you may remember we had an issue getting Window-Eyes to work on both our Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 machines about a month or so ago. Thanks to the fine folks at AI Squared, we learned Webroot Secure Anywhere was the problem; it was blocking certain Window-Eyes components from installing correctly. I finally had a chance yesterday to get remote help from Geek Squad to remove Webroot, which you need as it has a CAPTCHA you have to solve before it will let you uninstall it. Well, I did that, then completely uninstalled and re-installed WE and Wala, everything works. It's so nice to have our primary screen reader back up and running like a top. Re: WE
I understand that different configurations can cause differences. The WLM thing has been an issue for at least 3 years. I've downloaded NVDA and it isn't doing these things. I'm going to download the demo of the shark and see if it's doing these things. I've heard from a few jaws users and though they may be havijng some issues these are them. -Original Message- From: Tom Kingston via Talk Sent: Saturday, February 13, 2016 7:56 PM To: Singing Sparrow ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: WE It's working fine here. I saw this with Webroot. There is nothing AI can do other than ask them to whitelist it in their program. And if it's too much to ask we can't use that anti-malware. So they make the choice for us. Yes they do to provide window eyes for free of charge if you purchase microsoft office or if you subscribe to office 365 but you would have to pay for dectalk access 32, vocalizer, or Eloquence to be able to use them in the free version of window eyes. I'm about to give up on support. Everytime I've contacted them since windows 7 it's ended up if they can't fix it to be blamed on windows. I don't care whose at fault, I just need it to work at least to where it isn't a frustration everytime I use the PC. I've been using PC's since Dos 6.22 and windows 95. There has always been some things that were problem areas, but the basics always seemed to work ok, which isn't the case now. Hell, there are dialog boxes that come up in windows they We will not read or only read part of. -Original Message- From: Jim via Talk Sent: Sunday, February 14, 2016 11:36 AM To: Nick Sarames ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: Did the list die? Hi, What kinda upset me is that a week or so ago I was emailing back and forth with WE support. They ask me a couple of questions and I sent a reply with my answers. Now, it was getting late in the day on Fri, so when I didn't get a answer back I thought "no big deal, I'll hear from them on Mon" I have not as of this minute hear a word back from them. I sent a message this Fri with the sam information and we'll see if maybe they can at least let me know if they got it or not ar tell me to kiss their butts, or sojmething. /Tony C -Original Message- From: Singing Sparrow via Talk Sent: Sunday, February 14, 2016 10:35 AM To: Marten Post Uiterweer ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: no browsemode I have also noticed this and Yes this has happened to me as well. RE: Did the list die?
Hi: Go to the WE Website where they have their lists and check if they turned off your subscription. Mine was turned off due to bounces which can automatically happen. You have to turn it back on to get messages again. You will need your password for the lists but there is a button or something that will send it to you if you forgot it. This has happened to others, me most recently, so don’t feel ba\d, it is not that you are doing anything wrwrong they just don’t have their list set up properly me thinks. If you just cant use WindowEyes anymore others have used a screen reader called JAWS and some slog through one called NVDA so you wont be left in the dark totally. JAWS has a 45 minut demo mode and costs almost a grand, NVDA is free I think. I don’t know what is going on with WindowEyes, my philosophy is your fault, my fault nobodys fault just make it work properly. Windows10 is a beast but the guys at AISquared are paid to handle the beast so hopefully they will get it all under control even if it is Windows10, the WE old school design or even our individual computer settings. RE: Did the list die?
