Subject: WE or Windows issue

Over many years of using Window Eyes I have sent GW my computers in
order to resolve WE issues. The first time after GW was sure it was a
Windows problem not a WE issue they finally asked me to send them my
desktop tower. I did just that and after they investigated the problem
it was indeed a Window Eyes problem and they sent back my desktop with a
modified version of WE that resolved the issue.
More recent right after the release of Windows 10 I was experiencing a
terrible lag issue while using file explorer. Again Ai Squared
suggested I send them my laptop and they kept it for about 5 days
investigating the issue. This time it seemed to be a Windows 10 issue
and they could not resolve the issue. The next major update to Windows
10 resolved the issue.
I wonder how many other WE users have ever sent in their computers to GW
or Ai Squared to resolve issues and whether the issue turned out to be a
Window Eyes or some other problem.

2016-02-14 Thread Karyn Campbell via Talk
In the case of Web Root Security Anywhere, it was not white-listed. This means
that the antivirus software grabs some of the DLL files and corrupts your
installation of WE.

We know this as we have experience with it on both a Windows 8.1 machine as
well as a Windows 10 machine. Chris Grabowski confirmed that this product did
not white-list WE.

We finally got Web Root Security Anywhere removed from both machines with the
help of Best Buy's Geek Squad. Once this was done, Ray re-installed 9.0 on the
Windows 8.1 machine and downloaded 9.3 and all is working as it should.

He was unable to use the installation he had on our external hard drive as Web
Root corrupted that installation. For this reason, he went to AI Squared's
website and downloaded 9.3 for my Windows 10 mahine as the method he used for
the Windows 8.1 machine would not work. I am happy to say that I am now running
WE 9.3 on this machine and I'm one happy camper.

If anyone offers you Web Root Security Anywhere, run from it as it grabs DLL

I would agree that accessibility of antivirus packages is the next frontier in
accessibility to technology.

Subject: RE: Did the list die?

Hi Nick: That is true indeed.
There are some Internet and other things WindowEyes handles better than the
other readers, not many but some.
The point for me is that no matter who is creating software it should flat
out work properly or it is not ready for prime time production.
With a screen reader that is almost impossible since they have to deal with
other peoples work, people who create the programs the screen reader is
trying to read and navigate.
This, however, is no excuse but a valid reason for some problems that a
screen reader with a limited staff just wont be able to address for every
individual client and every individual third party program.
That is why management is so important, that is it has to Organize,
prioritize and Implement those features deemed most important to their
clients.
For a screen reader company I would guess it is to get every window in the
Windows Operating System working very, very well, then the Internet and then
other third party applications like Office and only then develop for other
third party applications.
I would stress the entire Microsoft Platform, all programs Microsoft puts
out as my first priority with an eye twoard a few other very popular
programs but then I am not the top dog anyplace nor would I want to be -
allot of stress indeed.
But there is money in making professional tools and popular programs
accessible and before you ever touch a keyboard as a developer you do a cost
/ benefit analysis of the project even if just an informal discussion and
Microsoft and a few non Microsoft programs are widely used in business,
industry and Finance and that is where the bulk of my work would be targeted
since Government and Industry will pay for the screen reader that works the
best with packages their employees use and greenies are, despite some
people, very very important to the survival of any company.
No company, no screen reader.
I would also let my client base know what is on the table for review like in
an agile project management senario so they get an idea of what is high
priority and what is low priority to have an open discussion of what and why
some things may, or not, get addressed in the near to intermediate future -
at least I would try that out to help get more input of real value from my
client base if I were a small development team with limited resources or I
think I would try it - perhaps not just never been there done that.
Anyway, you are correct but for the fact that WE does not work flawlesly
with the Windows10 operating system in my opinion and that in my case would
be job1 with the internet job2 which also seems to need some work.
Rick USA.

We're Back Up on Window-Eyes

2016-02-14 Thread Ray Campbell via Talk
Hello All:

Some of you may remember we had an issue getting Window-Eyes to work on both
our Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 machines about a month or so ago. Thanks to
the fine folks at AI Squared, we learned Webroot Secure Anywhere was the
problem; it was blocking certain Window-Eyes components from installing
correctly.

I finally had a chance yesterday to get remote help from Geek Squad to
remove Webroot, which you need as it has a CAPTCHA you have to solve before
it will let you uninstall it. Well, I did that, then completely uninstalled
and re-installed WE and Wala, everything works. It's so nice to have our
primary screen reader back up and running like a top.

Thanks,

see if it's doing these things. I've heard from a few jaws users and though

It's working fine here. No problems on the web. I don't use WLM.

Regarding anti-virus software? It doesn't matter to sighted folks
because they're not using a screen-reader, which by its very nature can
be seen as a key logger because it hooks the keyboard at a low level. I
saw this with Webroot. There is nothing AI can do other than ask them to
whitelist it in their program. And if it's too much to ask we can't use
that anti-malware. So they make the choice for us.

Yes they do to provide window eyes for free of charge if you purchase
microsoft office or if you subscribe to office 365 but you would have to
pay for dectalk access 32, vocalizer, or Eloquence to be able to use
them in the free version of window eyes.

Re: no browsemode

2016-02-14 Thread Tony C via Talk
Hi, What kinda upset me is that a week or so ago I was emailing back and
forth with WE support. They ask me a couple of questions and I sent a reply
with my answers. Now, it was getting late in the day on Fri, so when I
didn't get a answer back I thought "no big deal, I'll hear from them on Mon"
I have not as of this minute hear a word back from them. I sent a message
this Fri with the sam information and we'll see if maybe they can at least
let me know if they got it or not ar tell me to kiss their butts, or
sojmething.

I have also noticed this and Yes this has happened to me as well.
Here is an interesting point to make if you use lets say
window eyes for a bit and then want to switch to NVDA after you have
gotten done using NVDA and shut NVDA off and turn on window eyes the
browsers no matter if you are using internet explorer, fire fox, or
google crome you have to always go out of the browser because you have
no browse mode to rely on this is something that has been happening
since window eyes 9.0 through 9.3

Hi,

I now have for the second time, that when starting Internet explorer,
the browse mode is not working. Restarting WE or killing does nog help.
Jaws or Nvda will work with internet without any problem.
This is in Internet explorer, Firefox and Chrome.
After a reboot the problem is solved, but it is frustrating.
Are there other people who recognize this?

Fw: WE and windows 10

Maybe, they will get this one.

Hi,

1. What web browser, what antivirus?

2. What web browser and what sites, do you have links as examples?

3. Sounds like some invisible window is there. Does this happen every
single time you close an application?

4. Try going to apps/diagnostics/refresh accessibility libraries. Also
if you just reload Window-eyes does the functionality return?

5.

Hi guys, I’m still fighting with the same issues. 1. I’ll be arrowing down
reading a webpage and window eyes just looses focus and quits talking until I
alt tab to bring the page back into focus.

2. Window eye starts reading anywhere in the page it decides to. Very seldom is
in at the top.

3. When I close the program I have open the desktop is on the screen but window
eyes doesn’t see it untill I hit alt f4 a second time.

4. A lot of the times after being on the web for a while, ie: watching Hulu,
etc when I close the program window eyes will not go to the desktop even
thought the desktop is there. windows key M or D makes no differencd. When this
occurs if I hit alt f4 IiI get the usual “what do you want the computer to do”
except when I try to arrow down Window eyes doesn’t read the choices. In both
cases even though window eyes does not read the desktop or the other choices,
they are working, this has been verified by a sighted person. For example
window eyes isn’t reading the desktop but I can hit W for windows live mail (WE
says nothing) but WLM highlites and I can hit enter and WLM opens.

Anything I can do to fix this it really gets quite frustrating.

RE: Did the list die?

2016-02-14 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: Go to the WE Website where they have their lists and check if they turned
off your subscription.
Mine was turned off due to bounces which can automatically happen.
You have to turn it back on to get messages again.
You will need your password for the lists but there is a button or something
that will send it to you if you forgot it.
This has happened to others, me most recently, so don’t feel ba\d, it is not
that you are doing anything wrwrong they just don’t have their list set up
properly
me thinks.
If you just cant use WindowEyes anymore others have used a screen reader called
JAWS and some slog through one called NVDA so you wont be left in the dark
totally.
JAWS has a 45 minut demo mode and costs almost a grand, NVDA is free I think.
I don’t know what is going on with WindowEyes, my philosophy is your fault, my
fault nobodys fault just make it work properly.
Windows10 is a beast but the guys at AISquared are paid to handle the beast so
hopefully they will get it all under control even if it is Windows10, the WE
old school design or even our individual computer settings.

No, the list didn't die. But I don't know if you are getting this. I did
not give up on window eyes. I can't. I don't know what I would do. Pam.

RE: Did the list die?

2016-02-14 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Nick: That is true indeed.
There are some Internet and other things WindowEyes handles better than the
other readers, not many but some.
The point for me is that no matter who is creating software it should flat out
work properly or it is not ready for prime time production.
With a screen reader that is almost impossible since they have to deal with
other peoples work, people who create the programs the screen reader is trying
to read and navigate.
This, however, is no excuse but a valid reason for some problems that a screen
reader with a limited staff just wont be able to address for every individual
client and every individual third party program.
That is why management is so important, that is it has to Organize, prioritize
and Implement those features deemed most important to their clients.
For a screen reader company I would guess it is to get every window in the
Windows Operating System working very, very well, then the Internet and then
other third party applications like Office and only then develop for other
third party applications.
I would stress the entire Microsoft Platform, all programs Microsoft puts out
as my first priority with an eye twoard a few other very popular programs but
then I am not the top dog anyplace nor would I want to be - allot of stress
indeed.
But there is money in making professional tools and popular programs accessible
and before you ever touch a keyboard as a developer you do a cost / benefit
analysis of the project even if just an informal discussion and Microsoft and a
few non Microsoft programs are widely used in business, industry and Finance
and that is where the bulk of my work would be targeted since Government and
Industry will pay for the screen reader that works the best with packages their
employees use and greenies are, despite some people, very very important to the
survival of any company.
No company, no screen reader.
I would also let my client base know what is on the table for review like in an
agile project management senario so they get an idea of what is high priority
and what is low priority to have an open discussion of what and why some things
may, or not, get addressed in the near to intermediate future - at least I
would try that out to help get more input of real value from my client base if
I were a small development team with limited resources or I think I would try
it - perhaps not just never been there done that.
Anyway, you are correct but for the fact that WE does not work flawlesly with
the Windows10 operating system in my opinion and that in my case would be job1
with the internet job2 which also seems to need some work.
Rick USA.

I bet it's a trade off. The more you use the likes of these other free
creen readers, I bet you'll find issues you don't have with WE.
