Sorry, BK, I forgot to answer your last question. Yes, traffic is quite heavy on this list: usually 50 or more messages each day. Hello BK, It's a long time ago since I subscribed to the NVDA group so I am rather hazy on this matter. I am pasting below the info that is always included at the bottom of each message from the NVDA list. I presume the address to subscribe is the same as the one to unsubscribe except that you put the word "Subscribe" in the subject field and leave the body of the message empty. NVDA on Groups.io NVDA is developed by NV Access in collaboration with the community. Get NVDA from: http://www.nvaccess.org/ Your continued donations help keep NVDA development going strong. RE: Skype
David, although I primarily use Skype on My Shiny Android Toys, I did not have any problems using Skype on my computer. The last time I launched Skype on my computer though, I used Jaws as a screen reader. I never did deploy GW Connect 'cause Skype worked for me without any issues. I will suggest you play with it perhaps tonight and let us know what issues/problems you're encountering. If you'd rather use Skype on an Android toy, grab the app from the Play Store, install and follow its prompts. My schedule is a tad airtight tomorrow, but I will be glad to help you privately on your Android toy if you like. Skype is, in my opinion, REASONABLY ACCESSIBLE on a touchscreen device and as stated, I'm using it with no qualms. I used the term REASONABLY ACESSIBLE because each one of us define accessibility differently. I am a tinkerer, and I am forever ready to FIDGET WITH AN APP for eternity until I get it to work for my uses. Incidentally, I did not have to do any of that with Skype on My Shiny Android toys! RE: questions regarding the new version of skype
Hello folks I just installed the new version of skype and I need your assistance please. Can someone explain to me how to add a new contact in the contacts? And how to delete a contact that I don't need? The very nature of a screen reader inexorably ties it to the operating system it was written to work on. And that in and of itself precludes it from being ported to any other operating system. RE: skype problem
Hi Tom and Anthony, I've heard that Microsoft is improving the accessibility of Skype, but I'm not sure which version this is. I assume that they will be improving all versions on all platforms including macOS. Personally, I use Skype on IOS and, with patience, it is fully accessible. RE: skype problem
Dear tony, First try to make a free skype test call using the Echo123 skype contact skype testing service, when the woman stop talking you can say something and wait to see if at the other end are hearing your voice, if not the reasons can possibly one of the following: 1. if you are using headset with microphone, make sure that you do not turn off the headphones mic switch into the off position. Secondly, from the skype options unde the tools menu, the proper microphone is selected under the recording tab. Lastly it could be that the microphone can be muted. To unmute the microphone just press insert+S to get into the system tray, then select headphones/speakers depending on what you're using at the moment Then open the volume mixer, use the tab key to move from one item to another and you should land on the microphone button, if it is mute, unmute it. Off topic question - latest Skype
Hi all On installing the latest Skype, I got an error message about possible ad blocking software in Internet Explorer, and I could not sign in. Going back to an earlier version has fixed this, but I wondered if this was behavior others had experienced with the latest Skype? For now, I have to keep hitting "not now" when the program is so desperately inviting me to do what it laughably calls "upgrade". -- Reg <regw...@btinternet.com> ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Hi Rick, Skype is quite usable using WE on Windows 10. I'm not saying you cannot get frustrated with it, as you can find yourself asking why something won't read for you. Re: Latest Skype and W-E9.3
Chris I'm using the latest Toolkit but, again, I was a bit premature in asking the question, because I took a look at the braille displays, and a display was selected which I don't have. Why this was a particular problem for the Skype ap I don't know, but I tried to unselect it by just going to "none" and saving the settings, whereupon the non-existent braille display would come back and cause the error. Eventually, I realised that I had to "activate" "none", which sounds a bit counter-intuitive, but I now know that "none" has to be activated to make it stick. OK, just in case anyone else goes through that. Skype isn't causing the error any more, but I'm still curious as to why the braille display suddenly became a problem when I opened Skype. 9.3.1 is working well, and I haven't had any more of those crashes with Firefox so far, for which I'm extremely grateful. Bob, I've never listened to the webinar. So I wasn't familiar with that hot key. After selecting a contact I just hit enter to call. And if that doesn't work, because I have a vague memory of having to enable it somehow in the properties, open the context menu and there should be a call option. Re: Question About Skype
I recommend the Desktop version because I know it works with Window-Eyes and had been supported for some time. I don't use the Windows store app so can't provide any differences. Maybe others on the list can. As of today, all versions of Skype include video call support so there is no such thing as the video version. RE: Skype
Hi Jim, Yes, it works very well. Your best friends are Alt-1 to go to all of your contacts, and Alt-2, which goes to your most recent ones. The Applications key brings up the available actions for a selected contact. Once a contact is open, tab moves through the fields and links you need, and spacebar will activate buttons and bring up context menus, and the arrow keys are needed as well. Also, when you have begun a call, and you need to enter dial tones for, say, a menu system, like online banking, tab to the dialpad button and activate it, and you can then press the phone buttons you need by tabbing through the buttons and pressing spacebar on the one you want; you can also use the numpad, as long as you remember to turn numlock on; note that while the numpad does have an asterisk key for the star, you'll have to use the shifted number 3 on the alphanumeric part of the keyboard in order to press the pound key, unless you tab to the button on the dialpad to the right of the zero key. This should get you going. RE: Skype and accessibility
Hi Vinny, The current version is fine. Alt-1 brings you to your Contacts, while Alt-2 to Recent events. Pressing Enter on a Contact opens it. Alt-Shift-V brings you to your voice mail. The rest of what you need to know is tabbing around and using spacebar to press buttons. Since Contact windows always open inside of the main window, Alt-1 always brings you back to your Contacts, while pressing Enter on a Contact brings you back to a Contact. Morne, It's in recent contacts, which you can access either through Skype's View menu or by pressing Alt-2. To get back to your main contact list, press Alt-1. Re: Skype's chat window - latest Skype, Windows7, W-E9.1.
Hi Reg, This is a known issue with Skype which regularly vexes all users, regardless of whether they rely on screen reading technology. We have reported this issue to Microsoft, and the Skype Enhance app attempts to set focus in the typing area when a new window gains focus to help. Obviously, this doesn't work 100% of the time yet. If we find a better work-around before Microsoft fixes the proble on their side we will release a Skype Enhance update. This is of course good, but why does it happen, and do I have Skype configured wrongly, making this left click necessary? i am not sure that the new version of the Skype Enhance App works with Windows 8.1 but try using the control', (coma) command and if it does it should take you to the options lists.
