Hi Alto! On 16 May 2005 14:18:44 , you typed: AS (I don't need to add that though all tasks have aparently been AS completed, still the Connection Center has not closed, do I?) That's a thing i don't understand with Imap either. Isn't the connection centre supposed to be closed after all tasks have been completed even though you're online all the time as in you're having a broadband connection? Mi TB ignores the check box in the CC telling TB to close the centre after all tasks have been completed. Should it be like that and if not can one have TB behave like i want it to? Yet another congratulate!
TB! now, at last, seems to remember the last message viewed in a folder when returning to that folder. This regardless of whether I delete messages and compress the folders (if I did in the earlier versions, TB! sure forgot immediately), restart TB! or, it seems do whatever possible. This was certainly one of the 'features' that made me feel familiar with TB!, I could always be sure I would have no idea of what message would show when I re-entered a folder. Now, I feel a little lost, wondering if it is still TB!. Everything works so smoothly, I don't have to waste time looking for the last viewed message, I could just go on reading from where I were. Bayes Filter and 3.5
Hi TBBETA I probably have a local problem, but the Bayes filter (Achim's one) has gone crazy and is classifying almost all TBBETA messages as spam. Outbox and Drafts revisited
Hello All, At the request of a user the Drafts were recently changed to appear in the Outbox marked as 'Read' in order to distinguish them from messages meant for despatch. With the possibility of sorting the two kinds of Outbox messages into different virtual folders it would be nice to have the option of making the Drafts again marked as 'Not read' so that the VF becomes bold when there are messages present. Please developers, is there any possibility of introducing this as an 'Option'? 3.5 Multi-mon
Just installed 3.5 and discovered that it STILL has some multi-monitor issues. I have three monitors on my system, ordered [3] [1] [2] with [1] as primary, and run TheBat! on [3] maximized. First (minor) issue: All versions of TheBat! have been unable to restore to the correct monitor when the program is exited while maximized (they restore to monitor [1]). Oddly, if the program is exited when restored, the 3.5 versions *DO* come up on the correct monitor, so it appears that RIT is at least /trying/ to get this right. smile (Having done this for apps I've written, I know what a PITA it can be, I'm just hoping RIT can find a way to solve it for TheBat! as I did with my apps.) Second issue, part 1: The drop-down menu for Create a new message appears on monitor [1], while the drop-down menus for Receive new mail, Send queued mail, and Reply appear on the correct monitor (that's [3] for me). Second issue, part 2: The Create a new message drop-down lost one of its most useful features in the transition to v3.5: a hierarchical menu that showed groups at the top level and individual users within those groups. Another alternate Glyph for v3.5 available (Small Edition)
Hello All, If you managed the symbol size via the 'Batskin.xml', there is the unpleasant effect which unsightly blurredly represents the Icons. Re: The Bat! 3.5 is now available
Hi all, great!! Another final version full of long known bugs! I can't wait until we have 4.0 Final, buggy as 3.5 Final but then with an upgrade fee. It's like Microsoft where I also do betatesting. You have a timetable and follow it, regardless of what should be done before releasing the software. As I mentioned in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] there are still many unfixed issues and non of these issues was commented or fixed between my last mail (RC9) until the final version: Connection Center appearance: mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (noticed in RC5 or 6) Visual (folder bars) / Remote Desktop / SMIME / Windows Server 2003: mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (noticed in 3.0.9.19, S/MIME also in the first and early beta 3.x versions) Also I'm still waiting for this 16 month old issue: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=2333 See, most of the users are using finals of TB and will have to live with these cosmetic bugs months or years (if they do not upgrade). So in my opinion it would be better to fix all the open bugs and then continue to increase the version number from 3.0 to 3.5. I'm VERY VERY frustrated right now. It seems that only the showstopper bugs play a role here in the group. Everything which is not great but in some kind of way usable is ignored. For me mentioning not the showstoppers but the (as 9Val called these bugs before) cosmetic bugs, I feel more or less dispensable here in the group. Also I think that the Bug Tracking System you are offering on your website is useless and just holds people away from doing something useful. There are so many issues which are a year old or even much older. Again, 9Val, I don't want to be personal. I complain about Ritlabs and their betacycle and release policy, not about you. (Before somebody complains about this mail because it was mentioned during the last days: No, I did not read any of the ~900 messages I got during the weekend because I wasn't hat home and did not have the time yet to go through the mails.) v3.5 status
Hi, MS great!! Another final version full of long known bugs! I can't MS wait until we have 4.0 Final, buggy as 3.5 Final but then with an MS upgrade fee. It's like Microsoft where I also do betatesting. You MS have a timetable and follow it, regardless of what should be done MS before releasing the software. veryveryvery(!)biggrin I couldn't agree more in any way. Let's sum up v3.5 for a moment: - The ControlCenter malfunctions (AVs, vanishes, opens and closes wrongly or not at all, looses track of its connections), even if it did in v3.01. - The POP-Dispatcher is broken, even if it wasn't in v3.01. - The Search function gives AVs on some systems, even if it didn't in v3.01. - The Customize function gives AVs, false display (empty dialogs, wrong buttons) and generally undesired reactions (folder auto-width) - there wasn't such a thing in v3.01. Even if not all defects show up at every installation, that doesn't leave much that is working at all, does it? Moreover, - IMAP doesn't work even as bad as in v3.01, but worse. - The new look is - in my very humble opinion - much inferior to v3.01's simple presentation which already gave all the needed data but didn't obfuscate it with colour themes in which you can select every single colour nuance - except the very one you would like to change or set back to v3.01's colours. - The memory consumption has worsened, if anything. - The editor (MicroEd) still has the enter-bug (some already tried to make me understand that this would be a feature, but even those gentlemen had to agree that it is a hinderance, not a benifit). And then, last of all, we come to the common bugs that are present in each version of every program, where TheBat certainly makes no exception: - In v3.01, in Setup columns in the browse folder-window there was the option Auto width. In v3.5, it is no more. Since I'm using the same messagebase on different machens, one of them with a 21 display and one with a 17 one, I constantly have to resize columns. v3.01 did it automatically. Am I here at last allowed to call it a bug? Or did the option move to another place where I haven't been able to locate it yet? Only one thing I don't agree, and that's your comparison with Microsoft. I have contacted MS just recently. The matter was resolved in very few days to my fullest satisfaction. RITs support doesn't have a prayer here. They aparently need years just to notice something's wrong. That's why the time one could universally recommend TheBat is long gone. TheBat used to have a fine, almost unparalleled reputation among similar programs both for its capabilities, its safety and its reliability. It wasn't easy, but RIT has finally managed to kill that reputation - the capabilities would be fine if they worked, to trust a program this unstable would be a bit presumptuous, and about the reliability - well... Well. -- MfG, Altomailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] pgp6svsaPZ6zM.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Re: v3.5 status
Hi, take 5 people and you get 5 different opinions. What I was trying to say is that TB 3.5 Beta was not in no way ready for release. There are so many bugs still not fixed. @ Mary and Cees: AVs and stuff like that are showstoppers for me. I was talking about minor things plus things that simply do not work (but indeed do not crash the program). Let me give some examples... See, I start TB under a Remote Desktop Connection with various resolutions. I have to ajust the width of the columns in the folder window (Name, Unread, Total) every day twice or more. I have to resize the size of Connection Center twice a day not talking about that I am not able to see Connection Center because it is started in the background. I cannot 100% see if a S/MIME certificate is valid. It is marked valid and in another window it is marked with an question mark. There are ugly white areas under the maillist even if there are more mails in the folder than fitting into the window (hope you can understand what I'm trying to say). Also I'm wondering why TB takes about 70MB of RAM and takes more than 4 times longer for starting and counting the mails than version 3.0. I am wondering why my address book file is getting bigger and bigger when I'm changing pictures of people. Also it is not getting smaller when deleting entries. I do not understand why the subject is changing back to the original subject when I reply to a mail and try to alter the subject and then go with TAB into the mail body. And and and... There are so many things not working or not working correct. I agree that the final version runs and does not show any AVs (at my place) but the non-showstopper problems and isues problems which are mentioned again and again do not let me think about a final product. Sometimes I really think that Ritlabs is trying to add more and more gimmick features to impress new customers but leave a battle field talking about the old features which do not work as the should and were announced. I know it's a problem because Ritlabs promised their paying customers features in the 2.x product cycle which were not implemented until release cycle 3.x and are still not implemented into 3.5. This is the reason I'm really frustrated about this beta cycle. And the beta cycle ended like always. Hey guys we are release the final version soon. Many people complain but the final is brought out anyway. I don't get it! @ Alto: I don't know what issues you got with Microsoft but my experience as a betatester since Windows 95 (going all the stony way through Win98, Win98SE, WinME, Win2000, WinXP, WinXP MCE, WinXP MCE SE, Win2003) do not let me think that Microsoft always handles it that way. Often I had to learn that they simply didn't care and just had the RTM date in mind where the master CD hat to find its way into the CD factory. But I also have to say that I also had many many situations where bugs (and also the cosmetic bugs) where treated as number one target and where fixed right away. Re: v3.5 status
Hi Mary, ah now we are talking about me. ;-) We should talk about TB, not about me. But I don't have a problem with that. See, I'm not experiencing a burn-out syndrome as betatester and I don't feel pain about the bugs I still see in the program. It's more like I'm considering myself useless because nobody deals with cosmetic issues and I'm a chicken-hearted betatester and always wait some hours and the first reports of the fearless testers until I upgrade to a new version. So for me most of the time the non showstopper stuff is left. I participate in this group sind 1.6x I think and I often saw it happen like this. Cosmetic issues aren't important enough to delay a new final version. Complains from the whole betagroup are not enough important to delay a new final version. Sometimes I'm also missing real project coordination. Meaning for example that features are promised within the current release cycle (1.x, 2.x, 3.x) and were not implemented (partially not until now) or somehow implemented but not really working but other new and somehow spontaneous features are implemented and mainly effect whole beta cycles. But to make one thing clear: TB is still and always THE mail client for me even if it looks like a giant construction site to me at the moment. Also I want to be sure that I'm understood the right way: All my compliment to the programmer team of TB. I'm complaining about development priorities set by Ritlabs. Re[2]: Threading?
Hello Tony, The reason it doesn't happen with The Bat? Because TB! doesn't yet observe all the rules of the IMAP protocol and just ignores many of the commands issued by the server. Interesting enough. Do you have any concrete examples handy? The source of problems with IMAP in TB! is in the data structures used in the program and their usage with IMAP. The data structures were initially oriented to the local storage and this heavily influenced to the IMAP implementation. So, the next Beta cycle is going to be primarily about: - IMAP (many things will be rewritten) - Unicode/DBCS support - Submission Forms (as a key part of another project, but I see they can be used as a part of many solutions) I know that IMAP and Unicode become a really long story, but these are complex things with many stones under water - many can recall IMAP server-specific fixes and poor support for Unicode under Win9x... -- Best regards, Stefanmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

And, I think, if I may say so, that it's TB!-plus-me that all of us always talk about. As a diverse group of beta-testers, the sum of our individual findings and points-of-view is what helps both RitLabs and its developers. Also I want to be sure that I'm understood the right way: All my compliment to the programmer team of TB. I'm complaining about development priorities set by Ritlabs. I've been using TB! since v. 1.61 but only beta testing since 3.0. But I lurked on the beta list from about v. 2.06. And I concur with your criticism of RitLabs development priorities, in the main. But they are the ones with the business plan, and so they implement it. I'm no business woman, and The Bat! stays alive, so I have to think they know better about what their priorities should be than I do. I think it is clear, though, that you are not in a minority in wishing they would not do a final release of a version--as they did with both 3.0 and 3.5--without getting at least the newer features a bit less confusing. More than one of us would have liked to see at least one more RC before the final release this time. Submission forms (was: Re: Threading?)

Before asking, I checked the manual and it turned out they are just what I thought they were. But that actualises another question: Do anyone really use them? Hello Marcus, Now, anyway, it is not expandable at all. Either it is as UI bug, or the list of spell checker TB! is using for this feature is corrupt. Besides this, my spell checking works as expected. Confirmed. I'd say its a bug. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Hi Stefan, On 18/05/2005 12:01 AM +0300, you wrote: Because TB! doesn't yet observe all the rules of the IMAP protocol and just ignores many of the commands issued by the server. Interesting enough. Do you have any concrete examples handy? Early in my Mulberry days, I had a problem with Mulberry not recognizing some signed messages as such. However, TB! had no such problems. It turned out that Mulberry followed the IMAP protocol to the letter and retrieves only that much message header information required. If the IMAP server was not buggy it would send the information about whether or not the message was signed. I reported this to MDaemon support and a fix was soon implemented. Tony's issue is just another example of how Mulberry depends on the IMAP server for parsing headers. This is part of the protocol. OTOH, TB! doesn't take advantage of this IMAP capability and doesn't fall victim to the servers buggy header parsing. -- Cheers, -= Allie M. =- Eat Healthy, Exercise, and Die Anyway ... Moreover, my antique TB! 2.12 doesn't even recognize the format [EMAIL PROTECTED] as a Message-ID!
