I guess a spell checker would pick this up too. Anyway, for me, this

It happened to me also. What seemed to be a distinct degrading of my

happen to read it again. Here and there a few words joined at the hip

I also noticed some other, apparently random events - but nothing that
I wanted to report. My sense is that TB 3.51 is haunted. :-) I've
gone back to an earlier version. 3.5.36 seemed to be more reliable.

3.51 has new charsets system including Unicode, Stef is working on it
right now.

Yes. Or I send it and decide to re-read it after it's sent and
characters (usually only one or two characters) are missing.

At first, I thought my typing skills were evaporating, but then I
started to notice the same problem turning up in quoted parts of my
replies. Tried with and without my reply templates, but with no
 difference.

I have seen this, also.

I became certain that the errors were not my own typos, though, when
TB! all on its own took the ds out of Best regards. It's an
article of conscious practice with me not to mess with that signature
template.

Something buggy happens when TB! places a message composed in MicroEd
in the Outbox or when it Sends the message. I have, as a test, copied
a composed message to a sub-folder of the Outbox which I've named
Reference (where I check to see if a Smiley is displaying its image as
I wish it to, from time to time). I'll see the missing characters.
I'll go back to the Edit window and put them back in and Send the
message.

The characters that I put back in will be there. But a random other
character or two will be missing.

Apologies for not having more detail re cause/effect: seems entirely
 random to me.

And to me, also. It's been happening ever since I installed v. 3.51. I
hesitated to report it--given its random occurrence. (And also given
my penchant for making typos! :) )

Could be the work happening re unicode, etc? Or the general editor
work we were discussing a few weeks ago?

I hope this will turn out to be a general enough fault to justify a BT
report and that the development team will have an idea where to look
for the cause!

amount of languages checked. If it's important to know all of them, I

I have never touched these settings. They are on my machine apparently

I managed characters to disappear only in one case: I was composing message

Yes I can reproduce it. And also I can explain why this happens.

You do not use any character outside us-ascii and the Bat marks this
message's charset as us-ascii when you save that message to draft. You can
check that by viewing message source (F9).

However if you enter any character which is outside us-ascii (let's say äöü)
then charset of that saved message is set as utf-8. And if you reopen that
message all those äöü will be gone.

Maintenance hangs (was: Search hangs)

2005-07-14 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hello Steven,

SPV old and I do not recognize that usage of 'exceeding'.

Right-click on the folder, choose properties. The value you have set
under Maximum messages defines exceeding, and the number at keep
messages for xxx days defines old. If you have not set anything here,
nothing will be purged.

SPV But after running maintenance with the other three
SPV TheBat! saved over 200MB, but search still hangs
SPV completely in at least one of my folders. And I don't
SPV mean it is very slow (unless you consider glacial to
SPV be FAST)...it hangs completely. I've let it run literally
SPV for DAYS (once over a three day weekend) and this time it
SPV ran overnight without any progress after finding a few
SPV matches. Killing TheBat! is the only way to get rid of
SPV the corpse of the search tool.

I noticed an possible memory leak in an older version of TB, not sure
whether it is fixed in the recent one. Because I experience this only
in the office, where the folders are pretty big.

Ok, first: The bigger the total folder is, the longer it takes to
compress, if at least one message was deleted.

Second: The more work TB needs to do when compressing, the more
memory is used up. (This is my subjective feeling, I didn't measure
this in any way. But after full maintenance on all folders, my
computer becomes sluggish and I need to restart it.)

Third: The more the disk is defragmented, the longer it takes.

My suggestion: Degragment the disk, reboot the computer, and then
purge compress only that folder. See whether aintenance still hangs.

How much memory do you have?

3.51: VFs still don't refresh properly

2005-07-14 Thread MAU
Hello all,

Not always, but enough times, VFs are not refreshed even though they are
set to 'Auto-refresh'.

For example see attached PNG. My VF 'I-O-Threads' is set to view 'Any
message' from my Inbox and Sent Mail folders so I can see them threaded.
I have just replied to the last Unread one I had in my Inbox and then
marked the message as Read. The VF shows my reply properly threaded (se
it was refreshed by that) but the message I replied to (plus another
one) is still shown as Unread and not shown as Replied.

A manual refresh seems to work, but not completely. When I do the manual
refresh a number of messages disappear from the VF. Moving to another
VF or real folder and coming back to the VF in question brings back
the disappeared messages.

I wish I had more time to further investigate this problem, but I can't
do so right now.

Thanks. That's all one can reasonably ask for.

It's really hazardous behavior, for those of us who are experiencing
it. Worse than dropping Smiley ascii characters when reading in RTV
and then replying while using MicroEd.

Hope it will be easier to fix than the missing Smileys bug; so far

Hello Mary,

 ... I'm using Latin 9(ISO) iso-8859-15. ...
Maybe this is essential information to add to the Bug Track report?
I don't know how to find out what I am using. :(
I have now found where to look. I have been in the past using
 us-ascii.
Me too, and did not see missing letters.
Do you mean Latin 9(ISO) iso-8859-15. by that me too ?

I have Latin9 set, too.

But: I saw a strange behaviour... I select UTF-8 in MicroEd, save the
mail as Draft, and when I open again and check the charset, it is set
to Western European, the next item in the Options, Character set
 list in the Editor window...
 Confirmed.
Can you reproduce it? Maybe it is the cause of the bug? Unwanted
charset change when reopening the mail?
I have just reproduced it using this very mail reply. :)
Will you please add a note about this to:
 http://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=4904

Could you do this for me, Mary? I have to prepare a presentation, and

If not some beta tester would have stumbled over it when it started to
wreck havoc on outgoing messages, when would the beta testers get the hint
to actually test this, if at all?

Please, let us know what has changed in new beta versions, or at least tell

report any bugs yet. It would be more... well, professional.

Hello Roger!

I have been learning a lot on this long thread, and I think I now know
that The Bat! chooses for me, whatever I have earlier selected.

Like you, I did think that I was using the default choices.

... But as an aside to this general thread I am wondering why
Ritlabs refer to it as US ascii. As I recall the definition, ascii
stands for American standard code for information interchange. It
is therefore never anything but American!

You see, I am still learning!

Maybe it's a politically correct thing? I seem to recall that a
number of people in the world like to note that anyone who lives on
either the North or the South American continent could accurately call
himself/herself an American. It has been so traditional in my country,
the United States of America, over the years, to have its name
shortened to America, that I have had a learning curve to understand
the sensitivities of people who object to that. The same with the
traditional reference to U.S. nationals as Americans.

But, if I had to guess, that would be the background for the term,
us-ascii. :)

Ah yes. This is what I thought it was. I can now add
View/Display/Only Unread Messages. It took me a while to find and is
listed under Message controller about 50 rows down.

When I add it, it adds a new entry in View Display at the bottom of

be handled.

Hello Marek,

When I add it, it adds a new entry in View Display at the bottom of
the column and displays my shortcut. However it now has 2 entries for
the same thing, one with a shortcut and one without. How should this
 be handled.

check Hidden item to hide second one.

I can hide the one I just created, but not the one that was already
there. Then I will not be able to see the shortcut I just added. Not a
big deal just seems kind of awkward. Any suggestions?
