Re: Filters

2005-07-25 Thread David Elliott
Hello Thomas,

Monday, July 25, 2005, 2:09:00 AM, you wrote:

DE Filter 1 catches spam and moves it to a spam folder.
DE Filter 2 catches list and moves it to a list folder.

DE Which one should take preference if the message get caught by both ?

The one that is topmost, if Continue with other filters is not
 checked.

Yep that is checked. (Don't ask it gets complicated)
So the message can get caught by both filters.
So I ask again which one should move it when it gets caught by both.

ASK IIRC, the message is a fixed object during the filtering stage. If both
ASK filters move the message, you should have two copies in the two
destination
ASK folders (I haven't tried that however).

No. The keyword for the filter here is move, not copy. The message
is an object in computer-speak, don't know what a fixed object is.
Filter 1 moves the object (message) to the spam folder, filter 2 moves
it to the list folder. So it ends up in the list folder only, there
are no two copies (unless you browse deleted messages, but we won't go
into this). He would have two copies has he told the filters to copy
 instead of move the message.

ASK Maybe thats a topic for TBTECH?

No, rather for TBUDL. It's not a very technical question, every user
has filters like this so it's rather basic, and it's not a beta issue either.

I have a filter for friends and one for lists. It is possible for a
message to get caught by both.

ASK To avoid that, I've set up my filters for mailinglists as subfilters.

How complicated. The more straight-forward solution is to *not* check
continue processing If you are not sure and get too many false
 positives, recalibrate your spam filter.

The reason that I put it here is because filter activity was changes some
time ago, and I was wondering if it had changes again.

Re: some S/MIME bugs

2005-07-25 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Maxim!

 Can somebody confirm?
 Can't confirm without samples.

Ok no problem.

After deleting all S/MIME certificates out of a address book entry the
 checkbox Cert is still active
 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=4985

What kind of sample do you need here? A screenshot of the addressbook entry
with the checked Cert? Well, no problem but why? Don't you believe what
I'm writing?

TB crashes when importing already existing S/MIME certificate to address
 book
 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=4986

What kind of samples can I provide here?

S/MIME certificate shown as invalid in address book but shown as valid
 in signed mail
 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=4987

I can give you some screenshots. But they won't tell you more than I
already have written into the bug report. In the message list the signature
of the mail (so also the certificate in my opinion) is shown as valid and
in the address book the same certificate (I imported it from the signed
message into the address book) is shown as invalid with the notes I wrote
into the bug report.

Martin

Hello all,
I have strange problem, which I can confirm in my old installation and

I have created new event, set its start, added action and closed event

Can somebody confirm?

2005-07-25 Thread Martin Schuster
Hello Peter,

MM [-] (#0004871) Add address submenu was not working

there is at least one error left in this section.

I have one AB entry (myself) with 9 addresses which is assigned to two groups.

If I click on Add address for example on Stefans entry first (who has two
addresses) and after that navigate to and click on my own entry, I see Stefans
addresses poping up. (See attached file)

Can you reproduce this? I made a special addressbook entry with nine
adresses, and tried to reproduce your error, but no matter how I try
all works fine.

What actions do you perform exactly (quick search etc) to get this
error?

--

Disclaimer: Sorry for not being able to reproduce your error. Not
wanting to say that it's impossible that this error really occurs on
your computer. It might also well be possible that I am not having the
same context here that you have, thus not seeing your error here even
though I would if I had the same context.

Please don't get me wrong: I'm saying this just because last time I
tried to help someone on this list I got a verbal slap in the face
just because I could not reproduce the error...

Re: Filters

2005-07-25 Thread Alexander S. Kunz
Hello Thomas Fernandez everyone else,

on 25-Jul-2005 at 03:09 you (Thomas Fernandez) wrote:

ASK IIRC, the message is a fixed object during the filtering stage. If both

ASK folders (I haven't tried that however).

No. The keyword for the filter here is move, not copy. The message is
an object in computer-speak, don't know what a fixed object is.

Neither do I, therefore the quotation marks.

Filter 1 moves the object (message) to the spam folder, filter 2 moves it
to the list folder. So it ends up in the list folder only, there are no
two copies (unless you browse deleted messages, but we won't go into
this). He would have two copies has he told the filters to copy instead
 of move the message.

Ah OK, my mistake, I remembered the old discussion how a message can be
moved twice from the inbox to another folder and again to another folder,
so a move is not really a move until all filters are done... I mixed it
up.

ASK To avoid that, I've set up my filters for mailinglists as subfilters.

How complicated. The more straight-forward solution is to *not* check
 continue processing

None of my filters continues processing. It was just an example how to
avoid Davids problem.

The subfilter method is not complicated, on the contrary - the message
doesn't have to go thru all the filters (for every mailinglist). If the
parent condition isn't met, they're simply skipped. And I can collapse the
list of all my mailinglist filters in the sorting office, which leaves a
much better overview.

My suggestion remains the same (as mentioned in the 3.51,

something from there - before you started trying to resolve some
additional charset issues - for distribution as your 3.51 release.
Once you have something on your Web site that non-beta-testers can

2005-07-25 Thread Martin Schuster
Hello Peter,

MS What actions do you perform exactly (quick search etc) to get this error?

 Nothing special.

ctrl+n, click on 'address book' icon on the right, choose group (Selbst as
shown in the image), choose my name, RMB. That's all.

Looks like putting a contact in a group is the trigger: when I put my
test-contact with 9 emails into a group (its the only member there),
exit addressbook, open new message, click on select addressbook button
in To: field, select the group there and right-click on the *name*
column I don't get the Add Adress item. But when I right-click on
the e-mail column, the Add Adress item is there.

Still no addresses from other persons here, but I guess our two errors
are related.

.30 had big problems and needs to be replaced. We are not looking for
a perfect release but a good enough one to replace one that was not
good enough.

Sometime people don't have an idea of relative difficulty (or time
required) of fixing one thing or another, I think. Regex is not a
simple fix. I see lots of holes in the customizable interface. You
can put redo on a toolbar, but it doesn't do anything. You can put
Inset an Image on a toolbar but it won't even appear. These are
functions that are not available in the default toolbars. They seem

Gleason, that is - and was - also my point. And we thought that we
were close to that achievement with 3.5.36. Then we got the 3.51 MSI
and were off on another round of beta testing that has continued now
up to 3.51.10... and still I hear people saying that there are
showstoppers.

Okay, I am not the best judge of this, but I suspect that for many the
problem with RegEx could be every bit as annoying as the absence of
BayesIt (in 3.5.30). But I don't know that - especially as I prefer to
use 3.5.36 (which is adequate for my purpose) and will not - cannot
afford to - test any of the 3.51 series until I feel comfortable that
it is not going to distort the content of my email messages.

Sometime people don't have an idea of relative difficulty (or time

Yes, but people might also be annoyed by the new problems that have
been introduced. Why not give them a workable version of the 3.5.xx

only confirming the astute observation of Goncalo on the 3.51,

It is my opinion that beta testers - or at least those who guide a
beta testing program - must never forget that beta testing is
primarily in service of a wider community of product users. Unless all
product users are also beta testers, this primary purpose of beta
testing must not be sidelined by the personal interests of the beta
testers (who also choose to be beta users).

No one is arguing that the 3.51.xx beta series is unproductive. The
question is only why such a prolonged series has begun when the 3.5.xx
series ended on such a poor release - the 3.5.30 that is on the RL
download page for over a month now. Of course, this is a moot point if
you believe that 3.51.10 should take the place of 3.5.30 on the RL Web

About 3.51 release

2005-07-25 Thread 9Val
Hello All,

I know, that there are a lot of complaints about 3.51 beta serie.
Now I'll describe some reasons why we release it.

Let's start from history and look for the citate from my little
  roadmap:

  8-- from WinClipboard
Currently main directions of TB! development are:
  - IMAP
  - Unicode support
  - HTML editor improvements
  - Customization
  8--

Let's look more detailed - IMAP and Unicode support need a lot of
architectural changes. They are not possible to be finished in one
beta serie. So... On the one way we have 3.5.30 available for
download, on the other way we have a lot of time + possibility to
make deep changes. 3.51 is more stable than 3.5.30 and releasing it
will give us possibility to go further, we can't do anything now
without making serious changes. It is just the foundation we need to
continue work and have good enough version available for
  downloading.

Most interesting question for you is perhaps why we don't make just
bug-fix release? Quite simple - there will be a lot of changes in
core, so there is no sence in double work in fixing bugs, after that
change big parts of core and fix new bugs while previous fixes will
  be dropped with old code.

I'm open for other questions ;-)

question is only why such a prolonged series has begun when the 3.5.xx
series ended on such a poor release - the 3.5.30 that is on the RL
download page for over a month now. Of course, this is a moot point if
you believe that 3.51.10 should take the place of 3.5.30 on the RL Web
site. Is that what you want?

9Val, I am confused. I went to the public release page and found it
there, and I have downloaded it.

But nowhere can I find whether it is the 3.51.10 which I am now
running, or whether it is that first 3.51 (3.5.36 in an .msi wrap).

I like 3.51.10 okay.

So, what exactly is the 3.51 version which is now on the public
download page-- I don't like to proceed to installing it, while I feel

Help? Please?

Thanks for the clarification, 9Val. Please see below for my perspective.

On 7/25/05, 9Val [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Let's look more detailed - IMAP and Unicode support need a lot of
architectural changes. They are not possible to be finished in one
beta serie. So... On the one way we have 3.5.30 available for
download, on the other way we have a lot of time + possibility to
make deep changes. 3.51 is more stable than 3.5.30 and releasing it
will give us possibility to go further, we can't do anything now
without making serious changes. It is just the foundation we need to
continue work and have good enough version available for
  downloading.

I understand this. But what is not clear to me is why we went from
3.5.30 to 3.5.36 and then jumped to 3.51 without ever seeming to
complete the 3.5.xx series. For example, I don't understand why 3.5.30
is available for download and not 3.5.36 or 3.5.37.

Most interesting question for you is perhaps why we don't make just
bug-fix release? Quite simple - there will be a lot of changes in
core, so there is no sence in double work in fixing bugs, after that
change big parts of core and fix new bugs while previous fixes will
  be dropped with old code.

That makes sense to some extent. But, to my thinking, it is not
entirely user-friendly. Over the extended period of time that RL will
be making these big changes, many TB users will probably prefer to
stick with a safe and stable version - one that has all of the
components that they need and most of the components that they want.
For example, I would guess that many TB users will prefer not to risk
having their content distorted by an incomplete implementation of
unicode (and I myself am alarmed by such a prospect). My guess is that
3.5.30 simply does not meet the requirements of many such TB users, if
only because it lacks BayesIt support.

I did as suggested and installed the latest beta:

This appears to be resolved, however before posting in BTS I'm going to leave
it running for a few days because I believe the issue may be related to the

Sorry, 9Val, I did not realize that you had already made a public
release of 3.51 when you wrote this. I thought that you were talking
about the beta series.

Out of curiosity, what process did RL use to determine that you had

policy. I only ask because RL announced it as their policy, and I

MT I don't see this with my IMAP or POP accounts.

You cannot always get to this state. It is most common for a folder
that was empty the last time you were in the folder so that there is
no last message to point to. But even when that has been the case,
sometimes TB will select a message when you tab over to the message
list.

Crtl-A will select and highlight all of the messages in the list
window, but 'delete' will not delete the messages.

MT Delete worked ok on my system.

If you have a message selected (i.e. you can see it displayed in the
preview window) delete will work fine. It is only when no message is
selected (the preview window is grayed and says no message loaded)
that this problem manifests.

Marek,

I see lots of holes in the customizable interface. You
can put redo on a toolbar, but it doesn't do anything.

in MicroEd? MicroEd doesn't support Redo, it is implemented in HTML
 editor only.

And MicroEd is an externally supplied component. Actually I would
prefer the html editor but it insists on adding an extra line between
quoted text. The extra line is barely noticeable in TB's html editor.
But as you message back and forth with somebody quoting text each
time, the quoted lines move further apart, especially on the other
end.

You can put Inset an Image on a toolbar but it won't even appear.

You have right, but I saw this for the first time, did You reported
this here or in BT already?

Have not reported it in BT.

These are functions that are not available in the default toolbars.

You want all functions in toolbars??

No, I was simply thinking that the ones not available in default
toolbars are likely to not be done yet.

Actually, 3.5.36 works better with Gmail than 3.0.2.10. But I am not
talking about my options as a beta tester but rather the options of
the general TB user. When I look at the TB download page, I see an
option to download 3.51, 2.12, and 1.62. I don't see an option to
download 3.0.2.10 or even 3.5.30. So these options that you talk about
9Val are more for the beta testers than the TB users.

But, personally, two things are of most interest to me in respect to 3.51:

o Can I rely on MicroEd to not distort the text of my email messages?

o Will it give me an OTFE implementation that I can use (i.e. that
will search my message base without hanging and also preserve my
settings while migrating)?

I cannot even consider using 3.51 unless I know that 3.51 will not do
something unexpected to the text that I am writing. And, while I might
use 3.51 if the content is preserved accurately, I won't feel
satisfied with the release if I cannot use OTFE because of the search
problem or if migrating to OTFE becomes a very painful process due to
loss of settings. 9Val, can you please clarify the situation with 3.51
in respect to the above two questions.

IMAP: Progress bar in Preview pane no longer works

2005-07-25 Thread -=Curtis=-
Hi all,

I've noticed that the progress bar that normally appears while large
messages or attachments are being downloaded is now gone. That's one of
the few pieces of feedback in IMAP that is now gone too. :(((

Re: About 3.51 release and IMAP

2005-07-25 Thread Gary

Hi -=Curtis=-,

--On Monday, July 25, 2005 3:24 PM -0500 you wrote in part:

In some aspects 3.5 is far superior than older versions,

With regards to IMAP it certainly is.

I still cannot use it for IMAP. Most messages will not load, and I don't
have time to either compress or click to another folder and back again,
every time this happens to read mail, which is every 3rd or 4th email in my
INBOX, only to have it happen over and over again. It is still unusable for
me. What used to take me 10-15 minutest to go through email in the morning,
now takes over an hour, and is unacceptable for my use. :)

Actually 3.51 is the same serie, it just uses new numbering system.

I'm sure you said already something about numbering system but could you
or somebody else please explain again (or send mid) how the new nubering
system should be work?

Oh, and if it really works that way: x.xx.x then I'm very disappoint
and curious why you didn't chose x.xx.xx (and don't say that there are
less zero's in Moldova).

So why don't we get a bugfixed release?

because it will never be released.

Ok, then fix only 100 bugs, release it and fix the next 100 bugs ...

full unicode support was not promised for 3.51,

Makes it even worse - because that not promised unicode support present
lots of small bugs - even not using unicode.

RARed betas reset Menu shortcuts

2005-07-25 Thread Wayne Howard
Hello tbbeta,

I noticed a few weeks ago that when I install a RAR archived beta and
run it, that it puts my customized Menu shortcuts back to default.
Anyone else notice this?

In my setup, I have changed my Tools, Send and Check for All to F9 so
that it is consistent with the Outlook shortcut.

Note: First, I had to change the View, Source menu it since it uses F9
by defualt.

Yes, it was from tbuser.def not being conserved. Was reported and then
listed as fixed in 3.51.10.

mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Note: Maxim wrote in the body of this message 3.51.9 but obviously
he mis-typed. This is the announcement of 3.51.10, where the problem
you refer to is fixed.

It's nothing to do with the previous versions being in rar form.

Just a bug, and was fixed.

I know, that there are a lot of complaints about 3.51 beta serie. Now
I'll describe some reasons why we release it.

I understand the pro release it now arguments. However, if I make this
suggestion, maybe it would be a good idea to give that background
information on the download page as well.

And, since some users benefit from the changes in 3.50 and 3.51, while
others find the problems of work in progress less attractive, wouldn't it
be possible to offer all three of the v3 versions on the download page?

I mean 3.0.1.33 and 3.5.0.(whatever the last version with the customisable
GUI was, before you started the changes for unicode support) and the
current 3.51. That way, the users can choose which version suits them best.

Offering all three versions maybe would show the commitment to stability,
while not sacrificing the benefit of the progress that has been made in the
meantime.

Just an idea.
