Because they're a bit different. IMAP is a protocol for storing your mail online and access it remotely. POP3 is a protocol to retrieve messages. MP When trying to do so, one gets a screen suggesting to create a new account. That's a reasonable suggestion. ;-) Your POP3 account has lots of (or a few) messages stored locally, in a local folder structure. An IMAP account stores its messages in a remote folder structure. Now suppose that the folder names in your local structure don't conflict with those in your remote structure and you switch from POP3 to IMAP. What would you suppose to happen? - local folders stay local and remote folders stay remote? So when you access your account from one computer, it'll show different messages compared to accessing it from another, because some systems also have local folders... Kind of confusing - or should the local folders need to get transfered to the server? Automatically? Without you telling what stuff you want to get stored online and what not? And these options are what you get with different folder names. I can mention a few even more confusing options when the folder names match. ;-) Considering this, the only sensible thing to do is creating a new account. That way yo know what's local and what's remote and you can decide at your own time when and what you want to transfer from local to remote storage. When you've got a main account with a 5 GB message base like I do, these issues are getting kind of real important. -- Groetjes, Roelof Cthulhu is just an aka for Moderator. http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.4 Windows 7 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1 5 pop3 accounts, 2 imap accounts OTFE disabled i7-2600 3.4GHz 4 GB RAM Current beta is 5.3.8.7 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

You've got a gmail address and gmail allows sending with none gmail addresses, though they include a (envelope-from #@gmail.com) header. VK The issue: the sender field seems blank for these messages in the message VK list, though it does show in the message detail. VK Apparent cause: Sender address in the form VK m...@domain.tld m...@domain.tld VK ie repeating the bare mail address in both the name and address token of the VK address. VK I can reproduce that anytime, just sending myself a message with sender VK formed as above. I can send myself messages from the exact address as you show it, and that's clearly a bogus address, just depends on the ISP how the message arrives. My default account (on my own mail server) allows everything, doesn't add extra headers or anything, but real ISPs have more concerns as they need to protect themselves against malicious users. (I only need to protect myself against my own stupidity.) So my guess is that it's just a matter of a strict ISP. And the message I started with was one addressed to myself. Actually the first time I tried it, I didn't get a new message, but my browser opened with my website. As my default template ends with the URL to that site, that pointed me in the right direction. I put an additional word under my signature in my template and started the procedure anew and behold, no strange behaviour. My final test was your address at the bottom of my account template and yes, double clicking got me a message to you. Apparently what happens is that you select all text in the message, but the code that points to the last used URL isn't slected properly. It seems that the TH offset has been added the wrong way. TH I don't think TB has a clue about the time now. See the attached image How did you change to daylight saving time? Automatically or manually? When I view the headers of your message, it appears that the time of creation is 15:36 -0100, whereas the message is received by the server at 18:57 +0100. As my server mentions receipt of your message at 19:58 +0200, my guess is that the receiving server is right about the time. TB gets the time from your PC's system clock and presuming that your message got sent on creation, your system time is off a bit. 15:36 -0100 = 17:36 +0100 So there's a lag of 90 minutes. Apart from that your timezone suggests that you're in the Azores. However, those are the times listed in your last message in this thread. Your first message mentions a creation time of 9:41 -0100 whereas the server confirms receipt at 9:41 +0100 and the latter time matches with the 10:43 +0200 that my server listed. Therefore either your system has some major problems or you are intentionally or not messing around with your system time. -- Groetjes, Roelof Been there, done that, Got warned by the MODERATOR!!! http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.0.36.3 (BETA) Windows 7 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1 5 pop3 accounts, 3 imap account OTFE disabled Quad Core 2.4GHz 4 GB RAM Current beta is 5.0.36.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

It should be, because this is in the change log: ,- [ ] | 4.0 | --- | | Security has always been the RITLabs' characteristic feature. This credo was not forsaken by The Bat! 4.0 developers - they introduce the URL manager for background retrieval of the HTML images. Its appearance is caused by malicious codes penetrating PCs through graphic elements of the HTML messages more and more frequently. New manager blocks the suspicious images and lets the safe ones through. URL Manager controls the retrieval of messages not by folder or addressee, but by particular hosts or URLs. | | Large-scale innovations were made in The Bat! 4.0 folder tabs. Now users are armed with Favorite sets of folders and addresses which allow grouping the folders according to various criteria regardless of their mailbox positions. Users with large and sophisticatedly structured message bases shall appreciate this quick message access option. One can add his working projects to different Favorite sets, view his most important folders using Favorites or even read the new messages from virtual folders added to Favorite sets. Each Favorite set may contain folders (including virtual ones) and Address History, which is also a The Bat! 4.0 novelty. | | Address History gives users the possibility to track messages for each of the correspondents. Users may quickly find messages from a particular person, find out when this person replied or wrote a message for the last time, etc. The setup wizard collects initial information from the existing message base, so users can start navigating the Address History right away. Address History is totally adjustable - unnecessary correspondents can be deleted from this view mode, addressees can be divided into groups for the user's convenience. When the Address History is enabled, the list of the recorded correspondents can be accessed on the Addresses tab of the folder pane in the main program's window. It can also be combined with the Favorite sets. | | In The Bat! 4.0 users will find an improved convenient interface. The main windows of the program have a modern look. Headers and free spaces of the windows have nice gradient background, unnecessary borders around graphic components were removed, avoiding visual clutter. The account section of the status bar has its own customizable popup menu, the status bar itself having an option to show/hide the account log. | | The MicroEd text editor is improved. Now it supports Unicode, which means that one message can contain symbols from various sets (Latin, Cyrillic, hieroglyphic sets, etc.). In the new version any system fonts can be used for writing messages. Work with the editor is handier; the text search is equipped with new options. | | The developers highly improved the internal image viewer. Now it allows viewing all the attached images in selected messages navigating between them. The viewer supports rotate, advanced resize and zoom algorithms and full screen mode. | | Among other novelties the following ones should be mentioned: | - %EMAIL% environment variable which simplifies The Bat! support and maintenance; | - smart security buttons in PGP and S/MIME messages; | - addressee's name capitalization thanks to a new %TOFName macro processing algorithm; | - Outlook's attachment TNEF format support; | - work with JPEG images with CMYK and YCCK color schemes; | - five times faster message sorting, less memory consume due to fixed memory leaks. `- -- Groetjes, Roelof Moderator Rule #4: Everyone hates you, so hate them back! http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.0.36.3 (BETA) Windows 7 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1 5 pop3 accounts, 3 imap account OTFE disabled Quad Core 2.4GHz 4 GB RAM Current beta is 5.0.36.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

That way you wouldn't know what text would be generated by the macro until they were interpreted for the last time, probably when you press on the send button. Re: Strange Delete Behavior
Hallo Richard, On Fri, 3 Feb 2012 19:48:17 -0500GMT (4-2-2012, 1:48 , where I live), you wrote: DC Look at Folder, Browse Deleted Messages RN That certainly partially toggles what I see. So I guess you are saying RN the answer to my question/point is that it is intended behavior for RN IMAP implementation. It isn't related to IMAP, it's the same for pop3 accounts. I'll explain it. The message base for every of your folders is a single file. When you delete a message, your whole message base should be rewritten When you delete a second message, the file should be rewritten again This means that the whole managing of your message base would consist of lots of rewrites of big files. Not good for your drives and very time consuming. Therefore the index file was invented, it's used for other things too, but also to remember what messages are deleted. So when you delete a message, that message isn't deleted, but it is marked as deleted and the message base will only be rewritten when you compact it. That's why you should enable compacting the message base on exit: Account - Properties - Options - Compact all folders on exit As messages are at first marked as deleted, you can undelete them again as long as you haven't compacted your message base. And as you noticed you can toggle the visibility of the deleted messages. In TB v3 and before 'browsing deleted messages' meant that TB opened a new folder and showed only the deleted messages for your folder, but the current behaviour shows them among the not deleted messages, that's more accurate than the old way. (Though it took me some time to get used to it.) This behaviour isn't unique for TB, it's common practice for all mail clients and it's borrowed behaviour from databases, who behave the same way. It's found in the help file under 'compressing folders', these days TB calls it compacting, but in previous versions it was called compressing and the help file wasn't updated. :-( -- Groetjes, Roelof Borg Moderator: Your Topic Is Irrelevant, your arguments are futile. http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.0.34 Windows Vista 6.0 Build 6002 Service Pack 2 5 pop3 accounts, 3 imap account OTFE disabled Quad Core 2.4GHz 4 GB RAM pgpDUGkGSITgn.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 5.0.30.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

imap counts one unread message that isn't there
Hallo tbbeta, One one of my IMAP accounts I regularly get notice that there is an unread message that isn't there. The only way to get rid of that notice is by disconnecting and connecting again to the server. The unread message is always claimed in the Inbox. TB claims the unread message most often when I select the inbox. Today I checked the imap log and that said there were 23 messages, 22 with the flag /seen and one with the flags /deleted and /seen Browsing deleted messages showed me 23 messages (one deleted) but no bold messages, so nothing was unread. The same ghost unread message (in the inbox) happens when I start a new message in that account, but it disappears on sending. Therefore I thought at first that it meant that somebody else was creating a message, as I share that account with five people, but it happens way too often. Besides then it should't disappear when disconnect and connecting to the server. As far as I can tell it isn't related to the amount of messages in the inbox. The account has lots of folders and none of the other folders shows the same behaviour. I don't know when this behaviour started, I think in November, but as I was hardly online in October, it could have started then. -- Groetjes, Roelof I am Moderator of Borg. When TB finds a folder with only a .tbb file it'll build a new index file automatically. -- Groetjes, Roelof Moderator's have more fun than ##%@NO CARRIER http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.0.26.18 (ALPHA) Windows Vista 6.0 Build 6002 Service Pack 2 5 pop3 accounts, 3 imap account OTFE disabled Quad Core 2.4GHz 4 GB RAM pgpo3fhqkrC6T.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 5.0.26.18 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

That was changed with v4.1 As you needed to upgrade (pay money) from v3 to be able to use v4.1 I don't know when or if you did that upgrade The first v4.1 release was the Christmas release of 2008, so if you've been current, the message base format should not be the problem. Youy could check whether the folders in the account have an .tbi or .tbn index file, the latter is for the new format. EC [2] How o restore the folders and eMails that are present? Try this: Create a new folder in one of your regular accounts (don't put any messages in it) Close TB Copy a messages.tbb file from your archive to your new folder Start TB Access your new folder -- Groetjes, Roelof Moderator (n): also see GOD, Tyrant, Egotist, Opressor http://www.voormijalleen.nl/ The Bat! 5.0.26.18 (ALPHA) Windows Vista 6.0 Build 6002 Service Pack 2 5 pop3 accounts, 3 imap account OTFE disabled Quad Core 2.4GHz 4 GB RAM pgpkyFmaHUdDo.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 5.0.26.18 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

GG The filters look like: GG header - contains (all) - (emailaddress of mailing list) GG As actions: GG move to the folder (name of folder) So I'd suggest to create a filter that starts looking a single header, like reply-to or list-id (TB doesn't know these headers per default, but it's easy to define them in the header section and then you can use them in the sorting office) and place them on the top of your sorting office. When that doesn't help there's a problem going on. -- Groetjes, Roelof Don't argue with a moderator, woman or cat.
