10, 20, 30 Mbps plans (all have 8 Mbps up), all UBNT for RF, typically try to stay around 35ish subs for 40Mhz channels and 28ish for 20MHz channels. Haven't tested fixed frame, this may allow more scalability. Majority or our customers are on 10 Mbps plans. We're a small, rural, Ubiquiti-based WISP. Currently we offer a 5mbps down/1mbps package and a 2down/1up. What kind of packages are other Ubiquiti WISPs out there offering who might be in similar situations? How many clients are people getting per Rocket AC 5ghz based AP on a given package? Any feedback on the new Gen 2 AC AP antennae? Perhaps the horn antenna models? We know there are many variables to take into account, but we're just trying to get a feel for what others are doing. I wish there was more transparency in the release notes. I know they're protecting their intellectual property, but it's difficult for us to make a decision about a release's improvements and relevance to our network when the heading of "stability improvement" clearly involves significant, sometimes numerous, changes to underlying RF performance and processes. Tested on a RocketM2 and BulletM2 AP, across various mostly XM clients, some XW clients. Mostly single phase (airgrids, bullets). Re: [Ubnt_users] Odd noise floor problem
This is purely anecdotal, but I have noticed declined performance on M2 (specifically, Rocket M2s in my case) where noise floor seems higher, CCQ seems lower and customers report decreased download, but upload is fine for them ( we offer 8 Mbps upload and they can almost always get it). All our radios are on 5.6.9 or 6.0, both versions seem to have this issue. I had been chalking it up to increased interference because we've not had an A/B comparison like you've described (replacing the one with the other), but perhaps it's more than that. I'm getting ready to swap one of the M2s with a Rocket 2AC in mixed mode to see if things are any better. This went quite well early in 2016 and the strategy was successful in improving performance at several locations, thanks to enabling TDMA. We converted several sites in early 2017, and almost all of them have been exhibiting symptoms of very poor performance, and awful noise floors. So for example, we would replace an RB433+XR2 with an BulletM2, using the same cables and antenna. The XR2 would be reporting a noise floor in the 'normal' range for us (around -95 to -100dBm). Then the replacement bullet would suddenly be reporting noise floors of -80dBm to -85dBm! Performance suffered along with the severe drop in SNR. Is this possibly a bad batch of radios or something along those lines? I bought them all from the same vendor at the same time. All units, both AP and SM, are running AirOS 5.6.9. Re: [Ubnt_users] V6 PD on UBNT
I don't think AirGateways support IPv6, but when we sell an AirRouter to a customer, it's is their edge and is generally in SOHO router mode. The WAN screenshot I sent is the portion of the config that requests the v6 prefix and the LAN screenshot is the portion that adds that prefix to the LAN of the router and enables autoconfiguration. It's worth noting that on my tower routers, both SLAAC and DHCP-PD are enabled towards customers (this is true for both PPPoE and IPoE). Many consumer routers (although not all) will not actually route v6 from LAN to WAN (and back) unless they have a global address on their WAN port (in a different prefix than the LAN prefix). While a global v6 address is not technically required to route v6 (for most consumer router v6 route tables, gateways are almost always link-local addresses, not global addresses), if the router is doing v6 DNS proxy (actually using resolving DNS over v6), it needs its own global v6 address to do so. Re: [Ubnt_users] V6 PD on UBNT
No, I'm using it to provide customers a v6 prefix. In Bridge mode, you can enable IPv6, but there is no DHCP-PD option, just static or SLAAC - this would be for management-only. In router or SOHO router mode, the WAN does DHCP-PD and the puts that on the LAN for autoconfiguration. Re: [Ubnt_users] V6 PD on UBNT
I'm sending a /64 today. I've not tried a /56 or /48 PD, but presumably AirOS will either take a /64 from the larger prefix and put it on the LAN or put the whole /56 or /48 prefix on the LAN. Either way, AirOS isn't going to do DHCP-PD on the LAN, but you could do it manually. Clearly, this functionality resides squarely in the customer's router. If I sent a /48 to it, I'll have a v6 route to the /48 via the PPPoE iface and fictitious link-local fe80 address. The /48 can be subnetted as needed internal to the LAN, I won't care as the provider. FWIW, I'm well aware of the recommendation of giving /56 or even /48 to all subscribers. I also know of no consumer router that can use anything other than a /64 for it's LAN side so I've left it alone. Switching from /64s to /56s or /48s to subscribers is an easy conversion and when the day comes that someone asks for a static v6 prefix, I'll give them a /48 or more if they want it. I tunnel the traffic back to each PoP with a VPN from AWS to each tower. The RTT on that link is usually about 50ms. For now, I’d settle on some recommendations to make the check a little less aggressive in case I’m just measuring blips between AWS and Fairpoint. It looks like there is an Authentication Type mismatch. .13 is set to none whereas .14 is set to MD5. This a known issue. I'm having it happen when I configure LAN0 to be a part of a bridge with WLAN0.50 and add a new IP alias. Re: [Ubnt_users] NTP
Do you log to a remote syslog server or just the local syslog? I use a remote syslog server and it has it's own date/time stamp on the log entries it applies as it receives them. Obviously I'll only see log entries if the radios are linked (if the link is required to reach the remote syslog server). This way, I can sort by the syslog server's time stamp and at least have solid order of events to look at. The addresses returned by N.vendor.pool.ntp.org vary for load balancing. You might get a different host every time you make a DNS query. If you have your own stratum 1 or stratum 2 server you should look at contributing to the NTP pool: http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/ We have a GPS-based stratum 1 feeding some stratum 2 servers that participate in the pool. Traffic is minimal. We switched to a purpose-built NTP appliance combined with a stratum-2 cluster after we noticed that the time from LMG CTMs and Cambium CMMs was somewhat inconsistent. At least on the LMG side we were told that their NTP was intended only for rough tower-local NTP services (we saw +/- 5 second variance). We're currently using the $300 TM1000A (make sure you are on latest firmware) for stratum 1. I don't personally operate my own, but MikroTik has a full NTP server package or you can use "ntpd" on a Linux box. In another life, I used a Canopy CMM as the stratum 1 (direct GPS) source, then a couple of old Linux boxes sync'd to it and everything else to the two Linux boxes. One of our companies uses VISP and VISP requires that you use their RADIUS servers. The other company has on-premise RADIUS, but no billing system integration. We just manage it manually (using the daloRADIUS interface).
