[Bug 53804] Granule constantly crashes from segmentation faults.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: granule - A few notes: - Granule is a great notecard program for linux (the only well developed one I've found that allows for line breaks in cards), however it is currently very, very broken as it stands in the repository. Through some problem of version incompatibility or compilation, segmentatation faults occur all the time, likely the result of lacking compatible libraries, GTKmm or intltool files. I would be eternally greatful if someone could get this thing working. I list here three ways to make it crash, but there are almost certainly more. Before doing anything: sudo apt-get install granule granule - The crashes - Steps to reproduce granule crash A: 1 - Deck (from menu) New (from dropdown menu) 2 - double click Untitled1 in the deck viewer. 3 - Click button view/edit deck 4 - click add 5 - type in a front and back value for a card. like lalalala and honkhonk or whatever. 6 - click OK or Add For the included debug logs below, I performed crash A using the 'add' button. = Steps to reproduce granule crash B: 1 - Deck (from menu) New (from dropdown menu) 2 - CardFile (from menu) New (from dropdown menu) 3 - Click and drag Untitled1 in the deck viewer to any one of the 5 CardBoxes on the left. 4 - Click Yes in the Proceed in adding Deck 'untitle1.dkf' to cardbox #1/2/3/4/5 ? dialog box that pops up. Steps one and two in crash B are interchangeable. For the included debug logs below, I performed crash B in the order given here. Alternatively, you can also select deck Untitled1 after creating the cardfile, and under the Deck menu select Add To Card Box 1/2/3/4/5, and a segmentation fault will occur as normal. = Steps to reproduce granule crash C: 1 - Deck (from menu) New (from dropdown menu) 2 - double click Untitled1 in the deck viewer. 3 - In the lower-left corner of the window that opens, Click the round blue arrow button that is farthest to the right. = Reproducing these effects. It takes about 30 seconds to download granule, and about a minute or two to reproduce all these crashes. If you've got two free minutes on you, consider going through these and confirming them. - Wrapup and and Log Files - The above crashes, while minimalistic, occur no matter many steps you take in between and before the steps taken to perform a crash. For convenience, I'm including debug logs of all the crash methods, at varying detail levels (1-6... I'm not sure which level would be best). Note that the gtk option --disable-crash-dialog is off. You can turn that off yourself in the ~/.granule file. Perhaps these can be of help in figuring out the cause of the problem (er... I don't know anything about this kind of thing, if not already evident...) And last of all, to any developers who work on fixing this... you have my greatest of kudos. ** Affects: granule (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Granule constantly crashes from segmentation faults. https://launchpad.net/bugs/53804 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53672] Re: blank screen after installing software!
Hey Allen... this was one of the major glitches with Dapper, that it did that with some computers. Luckily though, it's still running (in almost all cases)... wait about 30 minutes just so you can be sure it's finished, press return a few times, wait another five minutes. If your computer doesn't shut down itself by then, shut it down yourself, take out the CD. When you boot up your computer, the distro should be for the most part installed. There will still be some parts to finish, but if it boots up fine, it means you've got it working. The screen thing is a problem which thankfully has been addressed and won't happen in future versions... but for this edition of ubuntu, some computers are just going to have to be installed from the alternate disc with a bit of temporary uncomfortable broken screen. There were a bunch of problems with the installer and most of them have been well addressed. [Bug 34902] Re: Ralink Wireless USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC
Hello Dimitri I am making the point that whether using an older or newer version of the kernel, whether 386 or 686, it works for me. Of course, this doesn't immediately help you if it isn't working for you. But at least the developer knows that there are platforms where it works perfectly, and that it isn't an issue of kernel compilation optimisation. It also lets the developer know that the existing kernel module is very useful to those for whom it works. After all, the developer will normally get comments from those who are having a problem with this module, and is less likely to get a comment from those who are not having trouble. This has 2 effects: 1)The developer can look at the hardware differences to help identify the bug, perhaps it is a dual cpu problem, or a cardbus bridge problem? 2)Lets the developer know not to delete the driver as doing so will inconvenience many users. I have used this driver on two other systems, and each time, it has worked perfectly. In my experience of this driver with the Asus WL107G, it appears failure is the exception rather than the rule. -- Ralink Wireless USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC https://launchpad.net/bugs/34902 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53684] Re: recurring events not displayed correctly
I also noticed the same problem with Dates and reported a bug in the Opened Hand bugzilla: http://bugzilla.openedhand.com/show_bug.cgi?id=128 Following on from that bug report, the Dates developer has closed the bug as invalid because he believes that Evo is correctly applying the recurrence rule. In other words, the recurrence rule: appointment recurs every 1 week on mon, tue, wed, thur, fri for 4 occurrences means: appointment recurs every 1 week on mon, tue, wed, thur, fri for 4 days and not: appointment recurs every 1 week on mon, tue, wed, thur, fri for 4 weeks When I created the rule, I assumed that it meant the latter and this seems to be what Evo uses to publish the calendar. If this is not the case, then either Evo is generating an incorrect ical file and this bug needs to be retitled, or icalx.com is misinterpreting the ical file and the bug needs to be closed. [Bug 37333] Re: IBM T23: no OSD indication when toggling VGA / LCD display modes
Such an indicator would need to activate the laptop screen whilst set to external output. This would require overriding the laptop interrupt system, which would be difficult or impossible. Also, such an implementation if it were possible wouldn't be generic, but specific to particular models. Also, not everyone would want the internal screen activated to give this information. (I have used the monitor toggle on thinkpads as a method to quickly disable the screen to save battery). Such an indicator system, if it were widely required, should be implemented by IBM in the laptop BIOS like the volume control OSD. If you feel strongly that such a system should be in place, please consider investigating the workings of different laptop models for a method to achieve this, and have someone write an implementation released under a free sofware license such as the GPL. The implementation may then be integrated into different GNU/Linux distros. If the indicator system were possible as part of the operating system,, it would be on a wish list for a so-far non-existent package, which perhaps not everyone would want. The bug should be closed. -- IBM T23: no OSD indication when toggling VGA / LCD display modes https://launchpad.net/bugs/37333 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 36014] Re: kernel can't scale cpu frequency
My problem was that this was happening with all kernels that I tried (386, 686, etc), and fixing it required hackish modification of the _PPC frequency limiting code, to stop it from incorrectly limiting. It appears that this bug is now gone as of 2.6.17-2 in Edgy, but I can't say for sure. The description in the patch for 2.6.17 is useful, reading it carefully makes it seem to me like the bug didn't manifest itself in Ubuntu because of a change in the kernel, but instead because of a change in something like init script timing, and also that the problem can appear somewhat randomly. As far as I know, the bug is not fixed for Dapper however, and my attempt to backport the 2.6.17-rc2 patch didn't seem to work. thank you cheesy_pizza for responding. i did realize that it was still working in the background so i attempted to wait till the disk was no longer being written to and then just shutdown (basically what you just described haha) im now attempting to download xubuntu for a older laptop of mine, will this happen with xubuntu also because its build on the same base? also it seems the server that hosts the distributions is down, haha all kinds of problems for me huh? haha i guess ill have to wait to finish downloading it ( im at 89% as we speak) well have a good say, and thank you for your response. it makes me feel good to be apart of a community where people actually acknowledge eachother and keep in touch! allen cheesy_pizza [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey Allen... this was one of the major glitches with Dapper, that it did that with some computers. [Bug 44753] Re: gnome / nm-applet / keyring crash.
I ran into a similar situation when initially connecting to a wireless network. As soon as nm-applet showed a sucessful connection, gnome- keyring popped up. I was able to move my mouse around, however I was unable to select any windows, dialogs, etc. I wasn't able to use my keyboard either to switch between windows. I WAS able to kill /usr/lib/gnome-keyring/gnome-keyring-ask -d process by ctrl+alt+tab to console. As soon as I killed the process, I was able to access gnome correctly yet again. I would have to assume this is either a problem with how nm-applet calls gnome-keyring-ask, or it's a problem in general with gnome-keyring. -- gnome / nm-applet / keyring crash. https://launchpad.net/bugs/44753 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I left the GNOME bug open because it is a valid feature enhancement request for an improved recurrence rule dialogue. Has been confirmed already. It is not really an upstream version of this bug report, more of an idea that came out of tracking down what the actual problem was. I was slightly surprised that you assigned this bug to it. Check out the lanugages there... Maybe it'll give you a clue. I presume you are referring to the Gnome launcher menu, as I cannot access the Scite menu. Right clicking on the item shows me Add this launcher to panel, add this launcher to desktop and Entire Menu, but no properties page I am afraid. When you say languages - do you mean as in Locale or as in Scite programming languages? I find either a little hard to relate to my crash, however, the similar bug (Bug #44034) seems to be far closer to the mark. I also fired up the Alacarte menu editor to see if there was any joy there, and did find a run in terminal which has made it survive past my first click on a scite toolbar or menu (note - I did not say menu item, merely popping up the menu dropdowns was enough to trigger the crash). I suspect the code change noted in Bug #44034 maybe the proper solution.
