[Bug 24891] Re: Crash (segmentation fault) with trivial input file

2007-04-02 Thread Asheesh Laroia
I can reproduce a crash with a simple input file on a Dapper machine:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ wget rercola.acm.jhu.edu/test1.dot
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ dot test1.dot
Segmentation fault
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ dpkg -l graphviz
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii graphviz 2.2.1-1ubuntu2 rich set of graph drawing tools

This is on Ubuntu Dapper i386. A fix would be tremendously useful for
dapper-updates because it's a very important package failing on the Long
Term Support release for very simple input.

You can use http://rercola.acm.jhu.edu/test1.dot as a test file
(provided by an acm.jhu.edu user).

[Bug 100035] [Feisty] LTSP chroot upgrade fails

2007-04-02 Thread Kirk Steffensen
Public bug reported:

When upgrading the LTSP chroot from both 6.10 and 7.04 beta, it fails
due to the console-setup package. Similar upgrades the LTSP server and
a stand-alone Edubuntu desktop do not fail.

The last part of the dpkg message stream with the relevant failure
follows:

Setting up console-setup (1.13ubuntu10) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/init.d/console-setup ...
invoke-rc.d: initscript console-setup, action start failed.
dpkg: error processing console-setup (--configure):

 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Setting up xorg (7.2-0ubuntu10) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Manually restarting console-setup inside the chroot did not result in an
error. The only fix that I found was to delete the chroot and rebuild
it.

[Bug 100036] Mouse cursor craeates artifacts

2007-04-02 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-savage

After 5-6 laptop wake-ups from suspend-to-RAM, the savage driver goes
berzerk and each time you move your mouse around, the screen does not
refresh, so eventually your screen is full of artifacts. Killing X does
not fix the problem, it seems that the DRM driver is the one that
breaks... I am using hardware cursor btw. The laptop is the IBM T23 and
the S3 card is a SuperSavage IX.

would take. I tried looking for some GUI-based archiver which would have
data redundancy check built in but could not find it. Hence finally
uploaded the whole file at rapidshare.

2007-04-02 Thread Greg Aumann
by downloading the .deb files and installing

 - hplip

should I also install hpijs_ppds? I didn't install it. When I do the
uninstall it complained that there was no hpijs-ppd package.

 2. Go into the menus and try to call HP Toolbox (in System -
Preferences), HP Sendfax and HP Fax Address Book (in Applications -
Office). If they are not there start the menu editor (System -
Preferences - Main Menu) and activate them. Then call the programs
again and tell what happens.

can't get these to show up in the menus. Hp-toolbox is checked in the
menu editor.

when I start hp-toolbox, hp-sendfax and hp-fab from the commandline it
complains about not having pyqt3 present.

 3. Do sudo apt-get install python-qt3 and repeat step 2. What happens now?
they run ok from the commandline. So previous crash is fixed.

 5. Follow the steps in the wizard which has appeared now to set up your print
queues. Does it work? Do all devices get detected correctly? Do you get
offered the correct drivers/PPD files? Do this for all your HP printers and
multi-function devices. Let the field for printing a test page checked. Does
the test page come out correctly?
printer is correctly detected. get offered a foomatic ppd and a postscript
driver which has recommended in the name but the ppd driver is selected when
the dialog opens. Chose the recommended driver.
At install time the test page comes out correctly except that it extends a
little too far to the right and the right border goes over the edge of the page.

 6. In the HP Toolbox go through the tabs, are the ink/toner levels correctly
displayed? Is the front panel display correctly reproduced (only devices with
monochrome text LCD)? Can you clean the print heads (only inkjets)?
toner supply is marked as good which should be correct as it is new. But the
bar graph is empty.

7 Can you set the printing options on the Print Settings tab? Are all
options shown which you can also see in the Properties sub-dialog of the
printing dialog of OpenOffice.org or under right-click - Properties in the
gnome-cups-manager (System - Preferences - Printing)? Does changing these
options influence the printout (user who runs the Toolbox and who prints must
be the same). Does printing from applications work correctly? Do your typical
 printing tasks.
hp-toolbox Print Settings General Media Size was Letter. It didn't pick
up that I had A4 paper loaded in the printer. It took several attempts at
changing it before the change took.

 8. Do the buttons for the functions on the first tab of the Toolbox work?
Printing button sort of works. Tried to print a one line text file. Printer
processed for a while and flashed the orange warning light indicating
'continuable error'. After pressing the go button (needed to hold it down for
about a second) the page came out and was correct.
If I try to print a test page from System Administration Printing
Properties Print Test Page I get the same continuable error and it comes out
after pressing the go button. Sometimes it is several centimetres too far up
the page and so the top is clipped.
I also tried printing a five page document from openoffice. This document was
fairly complex. Again I got the continuable error and after pressing the go
button the document printed and printed correctly.

 13. Especially report if something does not work any more as it worked with
HPLIP 1.7.1 on Feisty (a regression).
only regression I see is hp-toolbox not appearing in the menus

 14. Test also whether you can reproduce the bugs listed in the initial
posting. If one or more of them persist, please tell here.
gui crashing bug is fixed. Printing bug is not fixed.

 16. If you are content with HPLIP 1.7.3, report here, too, and do not
uninstall HPLIP 1.7.3. Use it, and if you find a bug later, report it here in
 an additional comment.
I prefer 1.7.3

[Bug 100039] Open office file doesnt recognise workspace move

2007-04-02 Thread Richard Hainsworth
Public bug reported:

Upgraded to Feisty RC at weekend. Using OpenOffice 2 files - no problem
in normal operation.

Problem occurs as follows:
Open an open office text or spreadsheet file in one desktop (workspace). Move
it to another either by dragging in bootom tool bar, or by changing the
workspace in upper left corner of the window.

The window moves correctly, BUT when trying to do an operation on the
file, eg. File-Save, the workspace is immediately shifted back to where
the window first opened, but the window is no longer there as it has
been moved.

Work around - move window back to initial workspace and operation
proceeds normally. Or reopen file in window in desired workspace.

If the operation is tried with a hot key combination (in OO Alt-F), the
same behaviour occurs.

I had desktop effects enabled, but not the window wobble just the
workspace cube. However, disabling that option did not stop the
behaviour (though I did not restart X or OpenOffice after diabling the
effects).

Tried moving windows with other applications, eg., Firefox and Gaim, but
similar behaviour not observed.

[Bug 100043] feisty herd 5 installer stalls while preparing the partitioner

2007-04-02 Thread GabrielGrant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

This is a list of the three problems I encountered in Ubiquity while
installing Ubuntu Feisty Herd 5 from the live CD on a Dell Inspiron. I
know that these should be filed as seperate bug reports, and I will do
so in the near future.

1) progress bar quickly proceeds, then stalls at 46% for just over two minutes
while it prepares the partitioner, before letting me set up the partitions. It
then quickly proceeds to the end. The bug is easily reproducable: it has
occured consistently for four installs in a row now. I have the following
partitions listed, in case it is somehow relevant:
hda1 ext3 /media/hda1
hda3 ext3 /
hda4 ext3 /home
free space
hda2 swap

2) if the relevant partition is not mounted (eg for editing it in
gparted), then it doesn't pull in information from my xubuntu install on
hda1. Expected behaviour would be to temporarily mount the partition in
order to check for presence of accounts to be imported.

3) if i don't ask to have the root and home partitions reformatted, the
installer crashes at the begining of the actual install

Logs will be attached below.

[Bug 100047] firefox disappears, but remains open

2007-04-02 Thread Daniel Derozier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Not sure if this is a bug with firefox, compiz, or gnome-panel, but
firefox is the only app where I see this behavior.

Sometimes firefox will exhibit this weird behavior:

1) Firefox appears to freeze, so I close it. The firefox entry in the taskbar
remains.
2) Thinking it minimized, I click the entry in the taskbar. Nothing happens. I
can deselect and reselect it again, however.
3) Turns out that it thinks firefox is maximized but isn't showing anything.
I'm looking at my desktop but if i right-click, I get the firefox right-click
context menu.
4) I can close the taskbar entry by right clicking - close.

Running compiz on feisty beta. A screenshot is attached - this is what i
see, but if i right-click I get the firefox right-click context menu.

I'm not sure what else to provide, but I'll be happy to give you
whatever you'd need.

[Bug 100048] alt-tab only doesn't jump between virtual desktops

2007-04-02 Thread Irios
Public bug reported:

In feisty beta, the alt-tab combination only switches between windows in
the current virtual desktop. It is not possible to switch to a task
whose windows are in another workspace, because they don't even appear
in alt-tabs pop-up window bar.

It happens just the same in metacity and compiz. In compiz, upon pushing

thumbnails of all the windows in the current desktop, but there are no
indications of other open windows.

Wow!Even i got my hdd workin properly.
Steps Followed:
1.Setting BIOS to factory defaults
2.changing hda-sda in /boot/grub/device.map
3.update-initramfs -u
4.grub-install /dev/sda

After all this; i shutdown the computer and remove the power cable
from the HDD.
Wait for some 30 secs, then restart the computer and Voila! everything
works like it should.
Also like Henrik mentioned i had some error messages from Grub(i have
turned on debug in grub) and now there are no error's,which makes me
believe that some register settings got screwed up and even a RESET
wasn't helping matters.A cold boot and above changes some how brought
back sanity.
Thanks Henrik and Ben :)

Bugs in Ubuntu LTS for non-security items (i.e. bugs that are not
security bugs) are ignored.

For example, these two bugs:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-image-canvas/+bug/52726
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/55645

Both are reports on broken functionality in packages in the
distribution, but both have fallen on deaf ears.

There needs to be at least an update of stagnant bugs like this, rather
than ignoring them point blank.

[Bug 100052] wish: applications menu behaviour and contextmenu

2007-04-02 Thread reaby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

At the moment usability of applications menu is something like we used
to have in past. This should be easy to implement and doesn't require
awful lot of work, but would ease use of menu and ubuntu.

When right clicking on item it brings context menu, which has:
-add this item to panel
-add this item to desktop
-add whole menu to panel / drawer

I propose that the menus should contain few more items, like:

- Add new launcher... -- alacarte / whole new dialog
- Item [new submenu]
 - Open Item
 - Hide Item
 - Delete Item
- Add item to [new submenu]
 - Panel
 - Desktop
- Add menu to [new submenu]
  - Panel
  - Desktop
- Properties... -- alacarte / whole new dialog

Also it could be handy if one could change position and organise menu
items by just drag'n'dropping them.

[Bug 100053] No easy codec install after an attempt failed

2007-04-02 Thread Sokraates
Public bug reported:

With Kubuntu 7.04 Beta with all updates till 31.03.2007, after clicking
on a non-free media file (mp3 in my case) Amarok will offer to install a
missing codec.

If adept, apt-get or some other package manager is running, codec
installation will, naturally, fail and the error message states, that
you should close the package manager.

After doing this, clicking on the same file (or another file of the same
type, haven't tried different types) will no longer offer to install the
missing codec! I haven't rebooted to see if that fixes it.

Thanks izi, but I guess this is rather a bug in the .glade file and
should be fixed there. I'll take a look at it.

[Bug 90085] Re: When /tmp is mounted noexec, preconfigure fails

2007-04-02 Thread Hans
I'm not an expert, but I'd try adding these two lines to /etc/apt/apt.conf:
   DPkg::Pre-Invoke {mount -o remount,exec /tmp;};
   DPkg::Post-Invoke {mount -o remount /tmp;};

This should remount /tmp as exec long enough for preconfigure packages
with apt, then remount again as noexec after finished installing.

Alternately, I believe something like this would work as well in case you'd
prefer to avoid remounting.
   APT::ExtractTemplates::TempDir /var/tmp;

(In this case, /var/tmp would have to be mounted as exec though.)

[Bug 99372] Re: Driver for Epson Stylus printers not found in Kubuntu Feisty

2007-04-02 Thread Dominique Eckert
Sorry for the latest message.

I'm now running the LiveCD to check if it is the case on the default
system, where only cupsys-driver-gutenprint is installed. The driver
indeed seems to be present:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lpinfo -m | grep -i Epson Stylus DX3850
gutenprint.5.0://escp2-dx3850/expert/C Epson Stylus DX3850 - CUPS+Gutenprint
v5.0.0.99.1
gutenprint.5.0://escp2-dx3850/simple/C Epson Stylus DX3850 - CUPS+Gutenprint
v5.0.0.99.1 Simplified

but the KDE add printer wizard still doesn't find it. So it might be a
problem in the kdeprint package. I send you here a screenshot of the
list of Epson Stylus drivers in the KDE add printer wizard. Many
printers are not there.
