[Bug 98520] Re: Feisty UVF ER: New HPLIP 1.7.3 release fixes lots of bugs
by downloading the .deb files and installing - hplip - hplip-data - hplip-doc - hpijs should I also install hpijs_ppds? I didn't install it. When I do the uninstall it complained that there was no hpijs-ppd package. 2. Go into the menus and try to call HP Toolbox (in System - Preferences), HP Sendfax and HP Fax Address Book (in Applications - Office). If they are not there start the menu editor (System - Preferences - Main Menu) and activate them. Then call the programs again and tell what happens. can't get these to show up in the menus. Hp-toolbox is checked in the menu editor. when I start hp-toolbox, hp-sendfax and hp-fab from the commandline it complains about not having pyqt3 present. 3. Do sudo apt-get install python-qt3 and repeat step 2. What happens now? they run ok from the commandline. So previous crash is fixed. 5. Follow the steps in the wizard which has appeared now to set up your print queues. Does it work? Do all devices get detected correctly? Do you get offered the correct drivers/PPD files? Do this for all your HP printers and multi-function devices. Let the field for printing a test page checked. Does the test page come out correctly? printer is correctly detected. get offered a foomatic ppd and a postscript driver which has recommended in the name but the ppd driver is selected when the dialog opens. Chose the recommended driver. At install time the test page comes out correctly except that it extends a little too far to the right and the right border goes over the edge of the page. 6. In the HP Toolbox go through the tabs, are the ink/toner levels correctly displayed? Is the front panel display correctly reproduced (only devices with monochrome text LCD)? Can you clean the print heads (only inkjets)? toner supply is marked as good which should be correct as it is new. But the bar graph is empty. 7 Can you set the printing options on the Print Settings tab? Are all options shown which you can also see in the Properties sub-dialog of the printing dialog of OpenOffice.org or under right-click - Properties in the gnome-cups-manager (System - Preferences - Printing)? Does changing these options influence the printout (user who runs the Toolbox and who prints must be the same). Does printing from applications work correctly? Do your typical printing tasks. hp-toolbox Print Settings General Media Size was Letter. It didn't pick up that I had A4 paper loaded in the printer. It took several attempts at changing it before the change took. 8. Do the buttons for the functions on the first tab of the Toolbox work? Printing button sort of works. Tried to print a one line text file. Printer processed for a while and flashed the orange warning light indicating 'continuable error'. After pressing the go button (needed to hold it down for about a second) the page came out and was correct. If I try to print a test page from System Administration Printing Properties Print Test Page I get the same continuable error and it comes out after pressing the go button. Sometimes it is several centimetres too far up the page and so the top is clipped. I also tried printing a five page document from openoffice. This document was fairly complex. Again I got the continuable error and after pressing the go button the document printed and printed correctly. 13. Especially report if something does not work any more as it worked with HPLIP 1.7.1 on Feisty (a regression). only regression I see is hp-toolbox not appearing in the menus 14. Test also whether you can reproduce the bugs listed in the initial posting. If one or more of them persist, please tell here. gui crashing bug is fixed. Printing bug is not fixed. 16. If you are content with HPLIP 1.7.3, report here, too, and do not uninstall HPLIP 1.7.3. Use it, and if you find a bug later, report it here in an additional comment. [Bug 100039] Open office file doesnt recognise workspace move
Public bug reported: Upgraded to Feisty RC at weekend. Using OpenOffice 2 files - no problem in normal operation. Problem occurs as follows: Open an open office text or spreadsheet file in one desktop (workspace). Move it to another either by dragging in bootom tool bar, or by changing the workspace in upper left corner of the window. The window moves correctly, BUT when trying to do an operation on the file, eg. File-Save, the workspace is immediately shifted back to where the window first opened, but the window is no longer there as it has been moved. Work around - move window back to initial workspace and operation proceeds normally. Or reopen file in window in desired workspace. If the operation is tried with a hot key combination (in OO Alt-F), the same behaviour occurs. I had desktop effects enabled, but not the window wobble just the workspace cube. However, disabling that option did not stop the behaviour (though I did not restart X or OpenOffice after diabling the effects). Tried moving windows with other applications, eg., Firefox and Gaim, but similar behaviour not observed. [Bug 100043] feisty herd 5 installer stalls while preparing the partitioner
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity This is a list of the three problems I encountered in Ubiquity while installing Ubuntu Feisty Herd 5 from the live CD on a Dell Inspiron. I know that these should be filed as seperate bug reports, and I will do so in the near future. 1) progress bar quickly proceeds, then stalls at 46% for just over two minutes while it prepares the partitioner, before letting me set up the partitions. It then quickly proceeds to the end. The bug is easily reproducable: it has occured consistently for four installs in a row now. I have the following partitions listed, in case it is somehow relevant: hda1 ext3 /media/hda1 hda3 ext3 / hda4 ext3 /home free space hda2 swap 2) if the relevant partition is not mounted (eg for editing it in gparted), then it doesn't pull in information from my xubuntu install on hda1. Expected behaviour would be to temporarily mount the partition in order to check for presence of accounts to be imported. 3) if i don't ask to have the root and home partitions reformatted, the installer crashes at the begining of the actual install Logs will be attached below. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Needs Info -- feisty herd 5 installer stalls while preparing the partitioner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100043 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 100052] wish: applications menu behaviour and contextmenu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel At the moment usability of applications menu is something like we used to have in past. This should be easy to implement and doesn't require awful lot of work, but would ease use of menu and ubuntu. When right clicking on item it brings context menu, which has: -add this item to panel -add this item to desktop -add whole menu to panel / drawer I propose that the menus should contain few more items, like: - Add new launcher... -- alacarte / whole new dialog - Item [new submenu] - Open Item - Hide Item - Delete Item - Add item to [new submenu] - Panel - Desktop - Add menu to [new submenu] - Panel - Desktop - Properties... -- alacarte / whole new dialog Also it could be handy if one could change position and organise menu items by just drag'n'dropping them. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- wish: applications menu behaviour and contextmenu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 100053] No easy codec install after an attempt failed
Public bug reported: With Kubuntu 7.04 Beta with all updates till 31.03.2007, after clicking on a non-free media file (mp3 in my case) Amarok will offer to install a missing codec. If adept, apt-get or some other package manager is running, codec installation will, naturally, fail and the error message states, that you should close the package manager.
