[Veritas-bu] DR site preparation
Good Day Geeks ! We are in planning phase of creating a new DC and its DR site. The plan is to create a new master server with three media servers at the production site and a standy by master server and 3 media servers at the DR site. Standy master server will have same host name and NIC's will be in deactivated mode. We planning to use recoverpoint to replicate the netbackup catalog at remote site. Now ,i am little confused on how this will act during real disaster. Production is down = ok We made the DR up - now what all steps would be required to make it a production master ? Do we need to do a complete catalog recovery ? I guess No as we already have catalog replicated to DR site and mounted to DR master. What all steps would i need to perform to make DR up and running as production was there are two scenarios we looking for 1) what we need to recover if we replicate /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images 2) what we need to recover if we replicate /usr/openv Would it work if we simply mount the /usr/openv ? [Veritas-bu] Manual and Scheduled backups not running
Good Day Geeks 1 Two days back we upgrade dour 2008 R2 master server from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.1One issue happened as we had our Netbackup\DB in X drive ,it earlier was in Y drive but we moved to X drive 6 months backup but not sure when running update everything in registry moved back to Y. So ,we had our classes ,SLP's copied from X to Y to make everything working.Everything started working but yesterday we suspended the scheduler to upgrade our 3 MSDP media servers and after successful upgrade nothing is running. None of the manual and scheduled jobs running. Please advise what we have done wrong and what how should we proceed to get this corrected. [Veritas-bu] After running nbstlutil -Netbackup environment hangs
Hello Geeks ! We have run into a major issue . Our Linux master server 2.6.32-358.6.2.el6.x86_64 running on Netbackup 7.5.0.6 hangs everytime we run nbstlutil to fetch any data regarding the SLP's.We not sure what is causing the issue ,we have verfied everything from server.conf to file descriptors and everything seems to be fine. Environment runs perfectly fine but once we run nbstlutil like today ,environment hangs again.We not able to track what could be the issue - Boucing simply resoves but cannot recycle the services again and again. [Veritas-bu] Snapshot processing gets delayed afte providing Restore role to Netbackup Acoount for VCS
Good Day Geeks ! We are facing one issue since long now - Whenever we provide restore permissions to our Netbackup account for Virtual center ,snapshot processing of VM's by backup hosts gets delayed.A single snapshot takes 20 + hours and this we have seen in all our environments. We are running on 7.5.0.6. We not sure what causing this issue.But whenever we remove restore permissions from our Netbackup service account for VCS ,all returns back to normal. Kindly suggest. Hello Yes we created new policy ,repeated the whole process. Taking manual full followed by incremental and then Synthetic.I have now verified the manual full images and media verify failed. I can see the full backup as successful backup but media verify failed and thus synthetic backups are failing. Now this is something new to troubleshoot. [Veritas-bu] Not able to run NBCC
Hello Geeks, I have one query here , we have to upgrade our master server which is presently running on Netbackup 7.0 on windows 32 bit 2003 platform.The server language is in Japanese so of Netbackup. Now as for upgrade we are trying to run NBCC and it is giving us error. 2.1 Processing detected NetBackup server entries There were no entries in the internal server entries list to process NBCC aborted! No NetBackup catalog information was gatheredor checked. We have tried running NCC with switch use_reg_cmd 32 -kbfree. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=contentid=TECH153186 has anyone faced similar issue ? What are the possible options we can check to troubleshoot this ?Symantec has also checked but couldn't come to anything as of now. Kindly advise. Geeks, From past 3/4 days my 5/6 clients are failing with below error. status: 1542: An existing snapshot is no longer valid and cannot be mounted for subsequent operations. Snapshots are creating from VCC. My master server is AIX 5.3 and Backup host is Windows 2008 R2 running on 7.5.0.3And we are taking backup via OSt on Data Domain. Not getting what could be the issue. No orphan snaps present. Please advise. Bpfis not showing anything usable to troubleshoot. Early today ,catalog drive became full and we freed up some space and recycled the NBu services but even after that backups are not starting.Nbpemreq is running. I also have cancelled the process and then resumed the scheduler but still not working. No backups. Earlier snapshot creation and deletion was not that slow.Now clients are taking like 6-7 hours for snapshot deletion and this is making vm too lsow. Any piece of advise ? [Veritas-bu] NDMp SAN Data flow
Hello Geeks, I have little confusion about data flow of NDMP DUMP in SAN environment. We have few NDMP backups configured in our environment. Netbackup 7.5 Windows 2008 Tape drives are shared between three media servers and 5 NAS boxes. Tape drives are authenticated to NAS boxes via Production as well as backup LAN. NDMP backups were happeninf via NAS0001 name and throughput was too slow . Recently i configured backup via backup lan ,NAS0001-bu and backup throughput is increased like 50MB/Sec and earlier it was 7-8Mb/Sec The question is as data flow is via san as Drives are zoned to NAS box. So ,why speed has increased when changed backup to happen via production LAN. Hello Geeks ! early today we faced issue that library is down ,so i rebooted the library but nothing happened as robot and drives still not visible to OS.Firstly i deleted drive and try to reconfigure but did not work as it did not allow me to cretae the storage unit. Rebooted the server then robot and drives got visible but now error is Error 254 Unable to load information for netbackup storage units from . Hello All !! Goo day !! I am facing issues with many of my AIX clients majorly running on AIX 7.1 with NB 7.5. They are gettting failed with 13/41/50. Not all the streams but yeas one/two streams are getting failed. [Veritas-bu] Media server load balancing issue
Hello Geeks, We have a setup here with one master and 11 media servers all solaris on 6.5.6 OS is : Solaris10. We have 3 media servers used for disk based backups using advanced disk by netbackup. We have ZFS pool created on 9,10 and 11 media servers and then using them as a advanced disk. Now the issue is ,We have put media9 and media11 in storage unit group with load balancing issue ,but this thing is not working properly as most of the backups going on media9 not on media11. We have made the changes as tried to use round-robin and priortised but the issue is still there. Our media11 is more powerful with 64 GB ram as compared to media9 with 16gb ram but still the backups not going on media11. Hello Geeks, I am sorry to put up a backup exec query here .We have BE 12D server and we were successfully backing up Exchange 2007 using GRT on tape. But from some days it is getting failed with Access Denied and when we uncheck GRT option it gets successful. Any idea what the reson could be .There is no way we can reboot exchange server. Hello Geeks, We take backup of our windows machines using BMR.Using BMR 6.5.4NOw yesterday one of our machines crashed and so we tried to recover it by BMR. EVerything was going fine but suddenly we got the below error. Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system is displayed. We have no idea why this ? Do we need to make any changes ,we just check restore system volumes only. Please advise what steps should we take now. Hello Geeks, We have one Master Server( NBU 5.1 MP3) + one media server ( NBU 5.1 MP3). Both are on windows 2000 SP4. Now our task is to upgrade master server to 6.5. Upgrade media server to 6.5. Decommison the media server and move all the media to master server. Recover the catalog to another server that would be windows2008 with a diffrent name: Steps we have made for this project : 1) Upgrade both master and media to 5.1 Mp7. 2) Upgrade master to 6.5 3) Upgrade media to 6.5 4) Decommison media server and move all media to master server. 5) Recover the catalog to new server with a different name.( win2k8 box) Some questions that I have are : 1) Can we recover the catalog of windows 2000 machine to windows 2008 :-As both will be a diffrent hardware ??? 2) Even the name of the machine to which we have to recover the catalog is different:-What all steps we should follow for this ? Hello, I am getting one error daily of invalid magic number. There is our one master server in a doamin called Minn. And when i am checking its var/log/messages-It is showing me below error. There is no entry of client robotimager.icd.XXX.com in MGM policy. Hello Geeks, Need help on one issue. We have a catalog of aroung 250 gb.Its on a F drive which is coming from SAN.This drive is composed of 3 luns. Now for DR purpose we want the data to copy from this drive to another drive that will be composed of a single lun of 300 Gb. Now we used a robocopy method to copy this data:-But this has a bug that it does not retain the compression of files. What other method you suggest to copy the data to other drive? Hello Geeks, I am facing issues while running inventory on LSU and also unable to create new disk pool. Error: Unable to fetch the data. Environment: Here we are using OST( Greenbytes:-GB-4000) for the backups.We have plugin installed on two servers,Calypso and Knightrider2. Calypso is used for VMware backups and Knightrider2 is used for normal Physical Server backups From LSU 008 we have created a disk pool called Vm_Weekly and now we unable to do inventory on LSU008 and also unable to create new disk pool. Hello Geeks, I have a small question on VSP/VSS. As symantec recommends VSS for 2003 clients over VSP then why it is the defauly snap-shot provider option ? Any specific reason for this recommendation as i can't find any tech note specifying why VSS: They all just explain that VSS is for 2003 and VSP for 2000.I agree but why? What happened two weeks ago:-There are our two cluster server and both got hung while getting backed up.We are still looking for the root cause but couldn't find yet...The thing we suspect is that they were using VSP and when we changed snapshot provider to VSS( As they are 2003) ,backups and server both running fine from 2 weeks and didn't hung once. Hello, There is one windows 2003 server and we are taking it's backup via VSP .What we have found that in last couple of weeks that when ever tha backup starts the server gets hung. PS:-We have adequate free space in all of the drives.When i changed snapshot from VSP to VSS:-It started working fine. Though i know that VSS is recommended for 2003 servers but we were using VSP since long and thuis server hang issue is very new. Please explain as i am a bit confused between VSP and VSS. I would try the following. 1 – run chkdsk /f on the drive with the issue, disk corruption can kill a shadow copy 2 – reinstall the NetBackup client and Maintenance Pack (reboot if requested) 3 – Make sure there is enough free space on the drive you are writing the vsp cache too (configured on master server) VSP has known issues in older versions of NetBackup. That vsp_cache file is a known issue if a backup fails unexpectedly. Can a backup run simuntaneously via backup exec and netbackup. I guess they both use diffrent ports for communication. Hello Geeks, We take VCB backups of 2003 machines via a proxy server( Also a media server) . We are using Virtual center server 2.5 and ESX server 3.5 update 4. Recently we have migrated one of our wins 2003 server to 2008 . Bu its backups are faing with VCB though when i take its normal backup it successed. Is this any kind of limitaon of VMWare with netbackup for 2008 backups or i am lacking something ? Please advise. Hello Geeks, I was using windows operating system for my day to day work . Right now i have just switched to Ubuntu 9.10: I am finding ,how can i install netbackup java client on my Ubuntu desktop. Verion of ubuntu: 9.10( 2.6.31-20 Generic) Java version i am looking for: 6.5.4 Also,i would be helpful if you could let me know the source from where i can download the jave to install on my machine. I just need a java client option on my ubuntu machine so that i can open my Unix/Linux/Sola/HP_UX master/media servers via this. Like we do in windows. Please help. Hello, We are taking backup to OST via a data mover Knightrider2. But when we try to restore something the job takes other media server Knightrider not knightrider2. Anyidea why this is happening? [Veritas-bu] Backup exec catalog query?
Hello All, I am new to backup exec as i have always worked on Netbackup and Netapp. I have given new responsibility to handle few servers getting backed up by backup exec 9.1. I have finally stabled the environment by creating jobs and media labels. Now i was thinking of how to take a catalog backup as we do in netbackup. I have created jobs to run from Mon-Sun. Mon-Fri:-Incremental Sat-Sun-Full. I am using Dell PV122t-LT02 with IBM-Ultrium drive and 8 slots. Now suppose my server got crashed after my full backup completes:-Then i can make the servers up and restore all the data from last full backup.But what about the previous backups:-As if do i need to import all the tapes to prepare the catalog again or is there any other way? [Veritas-bu] Storage life cycle policy query.
Hello All, We have setup a SLP for the duplication of images to diffrent storage units. We are taking a backup on Disk them duplicating it to another disk at diffrent location and then to tape at same location. My question is that this all is a very time consuming process. As first backup goes to disk one:-to tape.Then duplication starts to disk2 and then Is there any way to run both the duplication process simentaneously when the backup to disk 1 completes. I mean when backup to disk 1 done: -Can the duplication run on idsk2 and tape simentaneously. We are using OST option but it is not offrening us the D2D2T option. Could somebody put some more light on it?
