Guys & Gals.summer is fast approaching and beetles will be a favorite food
for our swimming friends.

I would like to swap beetles with as many as 30 swappers?
Do I have any takers?

Swap would have to end before summer starts? Does May 30th sound too soon?

Re: [VFB] Swap

2016-10-17 Thread Pete Gramp
I'm interested in a dry fly swap. Personal preference is that I would
prefer if not kept to classics, and I reserve my official "signing up for
it" until I know how many I would need to tie up... more than 12 or so and
I'd have to think twice about it to make sure I'd be able to meet deadlines
- Don't want to be "that guy"... But I am interested, if you're planning
on hosting this and the fly count is a dozen or so..

Hi Peggy,

I vote for a dry fly swap. Maybe classic dry fly.

Everybody who participates lists a classic pattern, and you are doing a
sort of lottery and are selecting a pattern for each.

Can be US or European pattern.

If you are coming this far I can show you some really great fishing adventures.

Right near the Grand Canyon is Lees Ferry. A premier fishery.

The Green River in Utah is a must see as well as the Gunnison River in

Hi All;
Speaking of swaps, do you save your swap flies or use them?
I recently got all the swap flies I've recieved over the
years(yeah
I just saved them) and laid them out on our dining room table. I
know but my wife is out of town all week and I have the house to
myself, have to clean them up completely tonight. What I
found was,
I DON"T NEED TO TIE ANY MORE FLIES FOR A WHILE! Unless a very
specific pattern is required, I pretty much have all my bases
covered, trout dries, nymphs, soft hackles, wets, warmwater-
deerhair bass bugs, streamers, poppers, panfish poppers, wets,
nymphs, etc.
I filled a soap box with just chilipeppers, one with soft
hackles, one with panfish poppers, it goes on and on. I have two
plano 3650 boxes crammed full of various wooly buggers/worms.
Anybody else see this trend? Oh, by the way I decided I'm
going to
load them in fly boxes and fish them this year.

Re: [VFB]Swap Flies

2012-04-13 Thread Anthony Spezio
Ashley,
My wife said I can have a wall in the den to display some of the flies I have
from well known tyers. I would do this if I could find a frame large enough. It
would have to cover the whole wall.
In my last post I had a typo error. I posted that I saved my flies in plastic
"tubes". That should of been "tubs" like the storage tubs you can get in
department stores.

RE: [VFB]Swap Flies

2012-04-13 Thread Webb, Gary
I think of the flies I have received thru swaps as tangible connections to
friends I may never meet. And if I do get to see them, it's nice to talk about
their flies. The only swap flies I use are the ones from Dell Roberts?? Swaps
where you tied two for every participant. I always thought that was a great
idea. Perhaps if I only lost flies to fish, I might consider using ones from
the swaps. LOL

Re: [VFB] SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT! Classic Streamers

2010-06-25 Thread Rene Zillmann
Hi Jerry,
don't know the official definition, but for me a classic streamer is
something that is around for a certain while, can be linked to a well
known Tyer (Carry Stevens, Ora Smith), or is so long around, that we
forgot the tyer (Mickey Finn - or is anybody aware of the originator).
In this case I assume we need an originating country, or area, river...

A tandem streamer, well: Someting with 2 hooks in line,
@Peggy: For the tandems: Do you want us to ty classics or classic
conversions as well?

[VFB] SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT Tandem Streamers

2010-06-21 Thread Peggy Brenner
I just finished 10 dozen for a dentist, and he had great fishing on a
trip to Maine.

Let's test everyones talent here, if you are in a area where only one
hook is allowed, to fish them you can cut the forward hook short and
it's similar to a articulated fly. Wings, of any material, jungle cock
eyes not a major requirement. Let's go 10 tyers and flies due December
15, 2010.

Also, if anyone needs a cheat sheet on how to tie these up, I'll make
something up and email it out. I just like to see guys and gals step out
of the box and try something new.

[VFB] Swap Announcement Update- RDS-2010A & RDS-2010B

2010-03-23 Thread Don Ordes
ALL Rope-dub swappers and want-to swappers:

Note: I don't want anyone to think I'm blackmailing anyone to buy my DVD- far
from it. This swap was set up a while back and planned for DVD tiers to give
them something to shoot for.

If you don't have the DVD and want to be in a rope-dub swap, I'll hold a 2nd
swap-RDS-2010B- open to anyone. (limit 12 tiers)

If you are interested, reply and I'll make a new list. Apply on the 2nd list
below.

So as not to load me up, these flies will be due one month after I make the
final call on RDS-2010A

Right now, I have 2010A as limited to around 30 tiers, if all sign up who
bought DVDs. If you don't want to tie that many flies, sign up for swap #2.
We'll see how it goes.

Same rules apply as for any swap- returnable package with return postage and
address, & toe tags with name, dubbing material, and core material. For A & B

There's lots of ideas for rope-dubbing now on my website, and this is what I've
been waiting for to kick off this swap.
http://www.fantasyflies.com/ropedub_dvd.php

Rope-dub Swap 2010A ! Swapmeister: Don Ordes- Deadline to sign up- April 10th.

*?? flies by June 1st (depends on how many sign up)
