AppsGoneFree - Was store news/still showing as a paid app

2012-11-21 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi Reggie. When I open the AppsGoneFree app I see an AppBumpNav or
something similar button on the top right. This is normal. I also see an
unlabeled button on the top left. This is the about button even though
it's unlabeled. If I touch the bottom of the screen I get the
description of the first app which is free for that day. Swiping to the
right with one finger from that point on will read the descriptions for
the other apps in that daily issue. If you want to know more about an
app, double tap the entry and it goes into a detailed screen. Note that
this isn't the app store though. From this detailed screen there is a
free button. So, this in a way makes it look like the app store. When
you double tap the free button, you are then taken to the app store with
the app in question already loaded there and then if you want it, double
tap the free button like normal. This is where you will want to make
sure it's actually free. Like I said in a prior email though, the apps
listed in AppsGoneFree have so far always been free if they are listed
as such.

Hope that helps.

Hi Reggie and others, as Tom said, if you go to the app from Store News
and the app in the app store doesn't show Free, then it's no longer
free. Although I like Store News very much, I find that sometimes the
apps listed there are no longer free. I don't think this is a fault of
the app however. What I think happens is that Store News keeps an app
listed for several days and the promotion on that app runs out and Store
News doesn't get the updates. Still though, because of it, I've been
able to get many useful apps for free which would have cost me money
otherwise. The one touch recording, photo taking, and video recording
apps are a prime example. One other kind of free app notification app
I've found to be very accurate is AppsGoneFree. You can get it from
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apps-gone-free-best-daily/id470693788?mt=8
and it has always been accurate for me. It doesn't show you as many apps
as Store News, but the ones it shoes are very nice.

Good luck.

I would not buy it unless it comes up as FREE in the app store.

I just downloaded store news this morning. This is the first app
that shows free and discounted apps I can work with. If I tap on
the app name it takes me directly to the app store and the app.
However, when I look where it shows the price/free, it still shows
as a paid app. It asks for my apple ID and password also. Am I
getting it for free even though it does not say it or is there
something I need to do to allow me to get it for free? I really like
it as it shows categories and takes you right to the app store.

Re: Want to hear Voice Over while on call

2012-11-21 Thread SoonerAnnie
Hi - I am new to the list. I guess I am one of the lucky ones...I can
hear VO just fine while on a call with my iPhone 4S, even after
updating to IOS6. My problem is that it is so loud when notifications
come in that I am unable to hear the person on the other end of the
phone. I have attempted to lower the volume for VO and not the call
but have had no luck. If anyone has any suggestions, I would
appreciate it! Guess if I'm going to have a problem, I would rather
have the one I do than the one you guys are talking about, although
this can be very annoying at times.

At this point the best and only work-around is to use a headset for calls
where you have to enter numbers once you are connected, you can hear
 Voiceover just fine that way.

Hi.

I can not figure out any braille command for the doubble tab and hold, it would

Siri and setting reminders.

2012-11-21 Thread Sandratomkins
Hi,

I am new to Siri. What are the restrictions for reminders? For example, I
wanted to set a reminder for when I am next in my local town, some 15 miles
away, to buy some plasters. However, Siri says I can only ask to be reminded of
certain places, The Gymn etc. How can I get Siri to recognise town names etc,
or do I have to make an address for that place?

Any hints on how to use Siri with the Location based services would be much
appreciated.

Thanks, Sandy.

Re: New mapping app with voice guided walking directions available from Nokia

2012-11-21 Thread Don Breda
Hi Listers.

I found this so far about the Nokia HERE app.

After entering an address, I tried entering a place such as McDonalds for
example because I knew it would find it that after hitting the go button it
appeared not to work because the screen didn't seem to change as far as
foiceover was concerned.

This however isn't true.

I found that if you put your finger near the middle of the screen and swipe
down with one finger the results appear.

Of course where i live you end up with several hits for McDonalds and you can
pick the one you want and double tap on it then you can swipe right and get
buttons such as (call) (share) or )route).

This is as far as I have progressed.

Also I believe you can easily change the McDonalds you chose to the starting
point instead of the destination.

Looks like this app has potential but Haven't had time to walk outside with it
yet.

It is a strange app though where accessibility is concerned and it also doesn't
appear to have any settings associated with it either in the main app or in the
settings app itself.

I find that really strange!

Do you already have this music on your PC or on CD's? If so, you could
transfer it over to your phone with iTunes.

If not, you could purchase music through iTunes on your phone. It would
then be downloaded and you could then play it in the built in Music app
on the phone.

There are also streaming services that I'm sure have accessible apps for
the iPhone.

There are quite a few ways to skin this cat. If we knew a little more,
we could provide a bit more help.

I know of a few myself, but you do not need to jailbreak your phone to
do this. It depends on what you are wanting to download as well.
Unfortunately, I can’t assist unless I know more about what you are
wanting to download and where the music is you want to download is
located.

I think you guys are talking about a soft reset, yes? A hard reset
would be going into settings/general/reset and choosing erase all
content and settings. That should naturally turn off VO although a
triple-click home should be all that's needed.

The soft reset, basically a forced reboot of the iPhone, definitely
shouldn't be turning off VO and this sounds like a bug if this is
happening to some of you.

Good luck.

the app name it takes me directly to the app store and the app.
However, when I look where it shows the price/free, it still shows
as a paid app. It asks for my apple ID and password also. Am I
getting it for free even though it does not say it or is there
something I need to do to allow me to get it for free? I really like
it as it shows categories and takes you right to the app store.

Re: Deal extreme online store

2012-11-21 Thread Eric
I have purchased from the store several years ago. I was pleased with what I
received considering what I had paid. It was not Apple products, however. The
shipping time was incredible, considering from Hong Kong to Ohio.

It is kind of like going into a dollar store. You expect quality for price, but
you can find some interesting and offbeat items that are simply there because
the interest was not there, not the lack of quality, et cetera.

A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square reader

2012-11-21 Thread John Panarese
Hi guys,
I am posting a question on behalf of a user who is not currently subscribed
to the list. His is a blind vendor in Hawaii and he is having trouble with the
Square reader. Please see his question below. I will send him any responses.

i have an iPhone 4s with square app thinking i could process credit cards for
my business as a blind vendor. unfortunately, voiceover and square are not
totally compatible. it will work up to a certain point and then freezes at the
screen where the customer has to sign the screen and press the continue button.

i told square about the problem and they agreed to look into the matter in the
next release of their app for the iphone.

i use a splitter with a 4 point plug and at least 1 female jack that has mic
and stereo audio out. this contraption works fine up to a point and i could
hear voiceover on my earphone.

i also tried bluetooth headset to listen to voiceover. however, when you plug
square in the earphone jack, audio is cut off the bluetooth ear piece.

i haven't tried gopayment yet but it's another credit card processing option
for the iphone.

maybe it is a good idea to try square on the ipad or mac but unfortunately i
don't have these devices.

Frankly, I would not worry about it damaging my phone, but I am not the type to
see a bogeyman hiding around every corner, either. The most you have to lose is
a couple of bucks.

You might do a Google search to see if there have been any complaints about

For the most part, any of the Braille commands that use letter combinations

Re: how do i get my braille display to show the macron characters

2012-11-21 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

How strange. I am also working with a Latin book on my iPHone, and I see dots
4-5-6 before the vowel with a macron. So an o with a macron shows dots 4-5-6 o.
The files I'm using were originally PDF, which I converted to epub using Stanza
and then read in iBooks. This is also how I see vowels with macrons if I create
them on the iPhone keyboard. So maybe there would be a way to convert the text
you are reading into a different form that would show the macrons. I hope so.

Best,
Anna

Re: Config error with tonido

2012-11-21 Thread MamaPeach
You will get this if you did not update the programs applications. This is not
meaning the app from the apple store, this is meaning the applications for the
program. Look under the general tab on the Tonido site, after logging in to see
if it says there are any application updates. If nothing else, remove
everything, clean your computer and redo the program install and then get the
app from the app store again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, if I can't get this to work for some reason, is there a way to role back

One observation if the built in app instructions you get don't do the trick or
you are not happy try the app that follows. It is totally accessible and
extremely intuitive to use and will give you all types of alarms for reminders

app for cut and paste between iPhone and mac

2012-11-21 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

I remember reading that there was an app that allowed you to cut, copy, and
paste info between the Mac and iPHone and use the Mac keyboard as a Bluetooth
keyboard for the iPHone. Which app is this? I searched the archives, but I
can't find the thread on it. I found the iKeyboard app on AppleVis, but there's
no mention in the app description of an ability to cut and paste between the
iPHone and mac. Is that the right app?

Thanks,

RE: Siri and setting reminders.

2012-11-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

I assume you need an actual address, but I also wanted to let you know that
if you do set location based reminders you have to remember that this will
use up a lot of battery as the iPhone accesses the GPS a lot to monitor
where it is compared to the address you specified in the Reminder.

I also found it not so useful for walking, for example, when I set a
reminder for something when I get home, it goes off as soon as I turn onto
my street and at that point I am still 400 metres or so away from my house.
I think it's of course very dependent on the quality of the GPS signal you
are getting and the accuracy of at the time.

Prizmo and a cardboard box.

2012-11-21 Thread Sandratomkins
HI,

Below, please find an offering from Prizmo made using my latest hands-free
method. The reason I am trying this out is to try and find a way for people to
get reliable results from, say, Prizmo without having to worry about
positioning and lighting.

Today we received through the post something in a largish cardboard box. I
got my partner to cut an inch square rectangle in the centre of the smallest
side. I left the flaps that opened to allow one to empty the box and placed the
box on the other smallest end. I know this isn't clear and will explain further
if anyone is interested, but for now, I just want to show that home-made ideas
can work for reasonable OCR apps.

I placed a paperback book open inside the box, facing up toward the hole
previously cut and placed the phone so that the camera was positioned over this
hole. Prizmo was already launched so I just chose text then camera and once
I heard auto focused I gave the command to take picture.

Because the box was dark, helped by the keeping of the flaps, the flash
automatically was enabled and the below is the result. This is an OCR of both
pages shot at once. Not, perhaps, perfect, but quite acceptable IMHO.
Sandy.

% ! was sttting at Bjurman's desk and reading through the papers that she had
found in the drawers when she heard a knock on the door jamb and turned to see
Officer Bubble balancing two cups of coffee on his notebook, with a blue bag of
cinnamon rolls from the local kiosk in his other hand. Wearily she waved him in.
What don't you want me to touch? Bublanski said.
~The techs have finished in here. They're still working on the kitchen and the
bedroom, The body's still in there. Bublanski pulled up a chair and sat down.
Modig opened the bag and took out a roll.

They munched quietly.
Modig licked her fingers and said, I heard things didn't go so well at

There was nobody there. There were unopened letters for •

Who is she?
Don't really know, Faste is working on her background. She was added to the

Maybe she planned all this.
What? A triple murder? Bublanski shook his head dejectedly.
What a mess this is turning into. Ekstr6m insisted on holding a press
conference, and now we're going to get it in the neck from the media. Have you
found anything?
Apart from Biurman's body in the bedroom, you mean? We found the empty box for
the Magnum. It's being checked for prints.
Bjurman has a file with copies of his monthly reports about Salander that he
sent to the guardianship agency, If they are to be believed, Salander is a

He shrugged. ~We've taken people in for a lot less.
Her prints were on the murder weapon in Enskede. Her guardian was murdered.
Without trying to get ahead of things, I'm guessing it's the same weapon that

Subject: Prizmo and a cardboard box.

HI,

Below, please find an offering from Prizmo made using my latest
hands-free method. The reason I am trying this out is to try and find a way
for people to get reliable results from, say, Prizmo without having to worry
about positioning and lighting.

Today we received through the post something in a largish cardboard box.
I got my partner to cut an inch square rectangle in the centre of the
smallest side. I left the flaps that opened to allow one to empty the box
and placed the box on the other smallest end. I know this isn't clear and
will explain further if anyone is interested, but for now, I just want to
show that home-made ideas can work for reasonable OCR apps.

I placed a paperback book open inside the box, facing up toward the hole
previously cut and placed the phone so that the camera was positioned over
this hole. Prizmo was already launched so I just chose text then camera
and once I heard auto focused I gave the command to take picture.

Because the box was dark, helped by the keeping of the flaps, the flash
automatically was enabled and the below is the result. This is an OCR of
both pages shot at once. Not, perhaps, perfect, but quite acceptable IMHO.

Re: *Do! Not!* hard reset your iPhone. VoiceOver dies.

2012-11-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Like I said, this was just speculation, and since I posted the message
below, others have said they see this problem even though they didn't do
an over the air update. I'm not sure I've done a reset with my phone
since I've had it, so I haven't been too worried about this issue
myself. I did update my iPhone from iTunes, but that was a little while
ago, and other than that, I almost never use iTunes. When I do use it,
it's on Windows 7 with NVDA.

On 21/11/12 07:12, Regina Alvarado wrote:

I did do the over-the-air upgrade so if someone can point me to a
step-by-step, detailed how-to and I mean exact steps on how to run iTunes

re-install just to have this feature back. I even sat in a conference call
listening to how to use iTunes, but when I looked at it on my computer
nothing looked at all like I heard it described. Think I need hand holding
if I am ever going to use iTunes, but if over-the-air is going to do this to
my phone, then I guess I better find someone who wants to hold hands!

I haven't tried this myself, but I seem to recall there was some
speculation that this just happened with people who did an over the air

I found the exact same thing with the iPod Touch 5th Generation today.
I'm sticking with the tapping the power button six times quickly to cause

Those of you who roll their eyes at such things can roll them silently

Re: qLooking for a free music download app which is accessible

2012-11-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
So you're saying they're downloading music they didn't pay for for free
from the web? Is this music that's been made available for free or are
they acquiring it illegally? If this is illegal, I doubt you'll find
something like that in the App Store, and that may not be a discussion
that's allowed on this list.

I guess there may be apps out there that allow you to download music
that's been made available at no charge. There are also different ways,
like on line radios and services like Pandora, where you can stream
music for free, but you're not downloading copies of the music to your
iPhone.

Re: Prizmo and a cardboard box.

2012-11-21 Thread Sandratomkins
Here are the dimensions of the box.
16 x 8 x 12 inches.

40 x 20 x 30 cm (but I don't trust Hugh's conversion there!)

Either way, this just happened to arrive today, it may not be the optimum
size, but it works for me and to show this, here is another offering. This time
it is from a leaflet, that I folded open so that just one page was showing. I
think it is about an a4 or letter size for those across the pond. It is from an
information flyer re travelling with a Guide or Assistance Dog.

Happy snapping.
Sandy.

uncopyrighted music. You can play it, and if you like it you can download
it. Unfortunately, I haven't really tried them that much but they seem

Do you already have this music on your PC or on CD's? If so, you could
transfer it over to your phone with iTunes.

If not, you could purchase music through iTunes on your phone. It would then
be downloaded and you could then play it in the built in Music app on the
phone.

There are also streaming services that I'm sure have accessible apps for the
iPhone.

There are quite a few ways to skin this cat. If we knew a little more, we
could provide a bit more help.

Re: Prizmo and a cardboard box.

2012-11-21 Thread Sandratomkins
Another observation. I have been testing out Prizmp and the box in different
lighting conditions and have discovered something. During the daytime or at
night using electric lighting, even with the flaps shut, there is still just a
little ambient light that penetrates the box, enough, therefore for prizmo to
get a sort of fix prior to the flash going off. However, when I tried it in
complete darkness, as we have just had a power cut, I find that Prizmo will not
work for me, it seems to need that glimmer to work. Not normally a problem, but
here in the countryside, when the power goes off it is completely dark. So I
fired up Saytext, and do you know, it worked brilliantly. This is because
Saytext turns on the flash light, when it is dark enough, to be able to judge
when to take the shot. If you can stand it, I will forward that sample. and
will try Saytext using my box as well.

saytext in the dark with box

2012-11-21 Thread Sandratomkins
Preparing the Guide Dog or other Assistance Dog for the flight

• No sedation should be used

• Ensure the dog is well groomed (bathed if necessary) to reduce coat shedding
as
dog will be in close proximity to other passengers

• Feeding restrictions are likely to be dependent upon time and length of
flight (a
dog's total digestive process is dependent upon its size and is more rapid than
in man; 12- 30 hours).

Feed a light highly digestible small feed — at least 12 hours before the flight.

Avoid salty snacks, which will increase thirst.

• Be aware products containing meat, dog food/treats may not be allowed
into the country of destination.

Water should not be restricted at any time, ice cubes can be offered during
flight.

• Give the dog opportunity to relieve several times on its preferred surface
prior to
entering the secured area. Be aware that once at the airport, concrete relief
while

.

on the lead may be the only opportunity available. Be aware of the dog's normal
relief pattern. Consult airport personnel as to where an appropriate area is
located. If travelling on a route that involves a Iayover, ask for assistance
in locating an area where you can relieve your dog.

• Consider introducing a different relief/exercise routine for a few days
before the
journey to reduce the need of the dog requiring a relief opportunity during the
travelling time.

During the journey

• Remove the dog's working harness.

The safety harness should be fitted during take off and landing and at all
other times when the ‘fasten seat belts' sign is illuminated and a member of
cabin crew has informed the passenger that the ‘fasten seat belts sign' is
illuminated. The dog should be secured through the loop on the back of the
harness to the normal safety/seat belt in the aircraft. This could be the same
seat belt the Guide Dog or Assistance Dog user is using or the adjacent seat if
this is vacant. A small dog weighing less than 10 kilograms may be able to
remain on the lap its owner.

Do you already have this music on your PC or on CD's? If so,
you could

transfer it over to your phone with iTunes.

If not, you could purchase music through iTunes on your phone.
It would
then be downloaded and you could then play it in the built in
Music app

 on the phone.

There are also streaming services that I'm sure have accessible
apps for

 the iPhone.

There are quite a few ways to skin this cat. If we knew a
little more,

we could provide a bit more help.

I know of a few myself, but you do not need to jailbreak your
phone to

do this. It depends on what you are wanting to download as well.
Unfortunately, I can't assist unless I know more about what
you are

wanting to download and where the music is you want to download is
 located.

Preparing the Guide Dog or other Assistance Dog for the flight

 • No sedation should be used

 • Ensure the dog is well groomed (bathed if necessary) to reduce coat
 shedding as
dog will be in close proximity to other passengers

 • Feeding restrictions are likely to be dependent upon time and length of
 flight
dog's total digestive process is dependent upon its size and is more rapid
than in man; 12- 30 hours).

o Feed a light highly digestible small feed - at least 12 hours before the
 flight.

o Avoid salty snacks, which will increase thirst.

Be aware that once at the airport, concrete relief
while on the lead may be the only opportunity available. Be aware of the
dog's normal relief pattern. Consult airport personnel as to where an
appropriate area is located. lf travelling on a route that involves a
layover, ask for assistance in locating an area where you can relieve your
 dog.

 • Consider introducing a different relief/exercise routine for a few days
 before the
journey to reduce the need of the dog requiring a relief opportunity during
 the travelling time.

 During the journey

 Remove the dog's working harness.

The safety harness should be fitted during take off and landing and at all
other times when the fasten seat belts' sign is illuminated and a member of
cabin crew has informed the passenger that the `fasten seat belts sign` is
illuminated. The dog should be secured through the loop on the back of the
harness to the normal safetylseat belt in the aircraft. This could be the
same seat belt the Guide Doo or Assistance Dog user is using or the adjacent
seat if this is vacant. A small doo weighing less than 10 kilograms may be
able to remain on the lap its owner.

Hi,

Just make sure you have a backup of everything on the touch (iTunes
will do this) and you should be set. Going from 4 to 6 is quite a big
jump; you may notice the touch has slowed down slightly although you
will have a large number of new features.

Re: app for cut and paste between iPhone and mac

2012-11-21 Thread Cheryl Homiak
This type2phone app works really well. It doesn't take over your Mac keyboard
either as I was concerned it might; it only sends text to the iPhone when you
are in the window of the app. Btw pasting is cmd-shift-v. But just to clarify:
it allows you to type or to copy and paste text; it doesn't allow you to do
voiceover commands and navigation via the keyboard as most bluetooth keyboards
would do. That being said, it does have a special column in menus by which
you can lock and unlock your phone, mute and unmute, control volume and
brightness and some other things and some of the function keys, when pressed
within the type2phone do work also. I think the vo combination doesn't transmit
to it and that's why you can't do voiceover controls; I would think that might
be possible though.

Re: camera roll,

2012-11-21 Thread Rob Harris
The simplest way, and I had a device for over a year before anyone told me
this!

plug into your pc using the given lead. We're assuming Windows cos I don't
know any other. It might ask you to download andi nstall iTunes, and there
again, it might not; it's stopped askng me now. But it will say you got an
Apple camera, you want to installit blahblah, next/cancel. So cancel.

when it shuts up prodding you about the new hardware, go into My Computer,
and the Apple Camera is right there at the bottom; just open it like any
other explorer window on a folder and it opens the Camera roll folder and
all your pictures are in there. The only things you can do are Add to My
Pictures, delete (useful to do it on mass!) or use normal select and copy
and then paste into some other folder of your choice, in My Documents for
example.

You can charge the phone hwile you're doing it, so that is definitely the
easiest.

Today we received through the post something in a largish cardboard

Today we received through the post something in a largish cardboard
box. I got my partner to cut an inch square rectangle in the centre of
the smallest side. I left the flaps that opened to allow one to empty the

box and placed the box on the other smallest end. I know this isn't clear

and will explain further if anyone is interested, but for now, I just
want to show that home-made ideas can work for reasonable OCR apps.

I placed a paperback book open inside the box, facing up toward the
hole previously cut and placed the phone so that the camera was
positioned over this hole. Prizmo was already launched so I just chose
text then camera and once I heard auto focused I gave the command
 to take picture.

Because the box was dark, helped by the keeping of the flaps, the flash

automatically was enabled and the below is the result. This is an OCR of
both pages shot at once. Not, perhaps, perfect, but quite acceptable
 IMHO.

This type2phone app works really well. It doesn't take over your Mac keyboard

clarify: it allows you to type or to copy and paste text; it doesn't allow
you to do voiceover commands and navigation via the keyboard as most
bluetooth keyboards would do. That being said, it does have a special
column in menus by which you can lock and unlock your phone, mute and unmute,
control volume and brightness and some other things and some of the function
keys, when pressed within the type2phone do work also. I think the vo
combination doesn't transmit to it and that's why you can't do voiceover
controls; I would think that might be possible though.

iKeyboard

2012-11-21 Thread Cheryl Homiak
In another thread, somebody posted that iKeyboard controls your computer while
type2phone allows you to type on your keyboard. This isn't quite correct.
Actually, there are two iKeyboard apps: one for $9.99 and the other free. The
free one is iKeyboard Remote and does control your i-device apparently,
allowing you to control your music playing without picking up your device. The
$9.99 app is for inputting to the i-device though I personally think I will
stick with type2phone. Hope this clarifies things about iKeyboard.

So you're saying they're downloading music they didn't pay for for free
from the web? Is this music that's been made available for free or are
they acquiring it illegally? If this is illegal, I doubt you'll find
something like that in the App Store, and that may not be a discussion

I guess there may be apps out there that allow you to download music

music for free, but you're not downloading copies of the music to your

transfer it over to your phone with iTunes.

Unfortunately, I can't assist unless I know more about what
you are
wanting to download and where the music is you want to download is
 located.

I know at least two apps that you can do this with, but they
are made
 for jailbroken devices.

Re: A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square reader

2012-11-21 Thread Damashe Thomas

John,
I believe that if bluetooth is on, plugging the card reader in first, then
turning on the bluetooth headset should route VoiceOver to the headset. As
for the freezing that occurs at the signature screen, I have a couple of
ideas. I haven't used the app in a while, not since iOS 6, but one method
may be to toggle VoiceOver off when the sustomer needs to sign then toggle
it back on after they tap continue. When I have used the square app in the
past, it was necissary to double tap and hold and start signing if VoiceOver
was running. I hope something works for him. Also, I remember seeing in a
post on this list that there was a company that had a card reader available
that plugged in to the charging port instead of the headphone jack.

Hope it works out.

Subject: A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square
reader

Hi guys,
I am posting a question on behalf of a user who is not currently
subscribed to the list. His is a blind vendor in Hawaii and he is having
trouble with the Square reader. Please see his question below. I will send
him any responses.

i have an iPhone 4s with square app thinking i could process credit cards
for my business as a blind vendor. unfortunately, voiceover and square are
not totally compatible. it will work up to a certain point and then freezes
at the screen where the customer has to sign the screen and press the
continue button.

i told square about the problem and they agreed to look into the matter in
the next release of their app for the iphone.

i use a splitter with a 4 point plug and at least 1 female jack that has mic
and stereo audio out. this contraption works fine up to a point and i could
hear voiceover on my earphone.

i also tried bluetooth headset to listen to voiceover. however, when you
plug square in the earphone jack, audio is cut off the bluetooth ear piece.

i haven't tried gopayment yet but it's another credit card processing option
for the iphone.

maybe it is a good idea to try square on the ipad or mac but unfortunately i
don't have these devices.

Black Friday opportunity! 15% off the Netatmo Weather Station

2012-11-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Listers,

I just received an email from Netatmo and thought I pass it along for those who
read my previous reviews and are thinking about buying this. They are offering
a 15% Black Friday discount with coupon code “MYFRIDAY” and it is valid for
orders placed by Monday, November 26.

?The weather station is $180, so this would work out to be a saving of $27 and
you would pay $154.

Also just to update those who read about my problems getting the weather
station connected to my WiFi, this problem has been resolved. Netatmo was
awesome about this, they actually set up a network the way I have it with a
regular non WiFi enabled router and then an Airport Express plugged into it to
set up a WiFi. They then told me they had identified an issue and were working
on resolving it and yesterday I received an email saying it had been fixed. Now
as soon as I try to connect again with the setup wizard a firmware update will
download to the weather station and it will then fix that problem.

I am also now on their Beta Tester program for the app and they promised to
implement Voiceover improvements within 4 to 6 weeks. The app is useable now,
but you can’t yet get information about high and low temperatures for the
previous day and the interface is a bit cluttered. But as I said, the dialogue
I have had with their tech support people was fantastic and I can only say good
things about the company. The product also feels very good, it feels extremely
well-made and of good quality.

My last request is that if anybody does order the weather station, please let
them know you are a Voiceover user and heard about it on the Viphone list. I
can’t remember if there is a comment field during the order process, if not
just send an email to contact-market...@netatmo.com and let them know, but I
feel they should know that blind users are buying their product and that it is
in their interest to make it as accessible as possible.

OK, see the email with the coupon code below.

Regards,

Sieghard

gift card says redeemable in apple store and how to redeem in app store

2012-11-21 Thread Regina Alvarado
The apple gift card I was supposed to receive has arrived. It has a pin and
a password, but the email says it cannot be redeemed in iTunes. I only want
to use it in the app store. If it can be redeemed in the app store, do I
take out my apple ID and password and put in the ones in the email? Oh I
hope not. First time I have gotten a gift card. Can someone explain how I
redeem, please. Thank you for any help that is given, and have a great
Thanksgiving in the U.S.

iTunes Match

2012-11-21 Thread Sandy Finley
I have recently subscribed to iTunes match. I think that in the beginning
I must have done something wrong because not all of the music I have in the
library on my PC is available to me through the Match. These albums were
available on my phone before I subscribed to iTunes Match and I still see
them in the library on my hard drive.

Since then I have done something right because the CDs I have put on my hard
drive in the past few days are all on iTunes Match. Anybody have any idea
