Re: Ios 7.11 is out
My suggestion is to wait it out. Thousands, probably way more than that, of people are trying to get this same download. The servers are just swamped. Give it a bit of time and you should be able to download it just fine. Re: Eyes-Free Text Input on iOS
Consider looking in the app store for things like TypeInBraille, mBraille, BrailleTouch; and a few others. Tell us what else you can offer, then we might think about it some more. We don't mind supporting students on their final year projects, but it is worth finding a gap in the market, as a significant part of that module is Research. Weekly Prayer and Thought: Our thoughts in this present life should turn on the praise of God, because it is in praising God that we shall rejoice for ever in the life to come; and no one can be ready for the next life unless he trains himself for it now. So we praise God during our earthly life, and at the same time we make our petitions to him. Our praise is expressed with joy, our petitions with yearning. We have been promised something we do not yet possess, and because the promise was made by one who keeps his word, we trust him and are glad; but insofar as possession is delayed, we can only long and yearn for it. It is good for us to persevere in longing until we receive what was promised, and yearning is over; then praise alone will remain. ( The Easter Alleluia,by Augustine of Hippo, 430-543 A.D. Has Anybody Else Experienced Spurious Phone Calling
Until earlier this afternoon, I had some entries in my Recent Calls frame that I am not to contact. The problem I ran into is that when I tried to delete other entries in the Recents list, instead of deleting the (what I thought) the selected item, a telephone call would be initiated on the untouchable entry. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't give such an issue much thought. But for the untouchable contact entries it has been a huge concern. And, I now have had an ATT associate delete all references to such contacts. Holland's Boy, Bill - Be careful about reading health books. Thanks for the question. Although we don't think there could be a big change in the firmware, but if there's an update that our customers ever want to get, then they can send to us for the update. Please understand that doing this would involve postage costs, back and forth. For example, one way from here to US, it costs about $30 USD, 3 to 4 days, by airmail. In fact, this is the service that we are currently using although we just charge them $15 USD anywhere in the world. Otherwise, I know there's a cheaper way to send, which costs about $10 USD with an option for insuarance and registration, but it might take a few weeks for the delivery. Sorry for this issue. Re: Tips for using RiVO the portable keyboard about the size of a credit card for iPhone.
One thing we want to tell you here is that if it ever comes a time when Apple changes many things and it becomes useless without firmware updates, or we have big updates in the firmware for our customers, then we will surely design and produce another hardware to overcome the problems. Since we have experienced the issue, know the concern of our customers, will have enough knowhow and knowledge by that time, we will surely make it upgradable by users. Then we promise we will definitely have a reasonable compensation sales plan to have our valuable customers come with us. We hope you understand, believe and trust us in this. The original design of RiVO interface for iPhone had been started from discussion with blind people at CSUN conference about iPhone and its accessibility issues. We really thank them. We also thank our customers who have learned, used and sent us valuable feedback over the years about this seemingly complex interface. It will surely turn out to be an easy and intuitive interface once you try it although there's none like this before. We think we are committed to this and we really want to do our best to make our blind customers good at using touchscreen smart devices with RiVO. Thanks. Ein in lieu of Mobience Inc. RE: mini connect.
No, not a normal HDMI cable, no iDevice has an HDMI port. However, Apple does make a Lightning Digital AV Adapter. It is an adapter you plug into the Lightning port on your iPad Mini and then you can use a normal HDMI cable to connect the iPad Mini to your TV. The adapter is $55, here is a link to it in the Apple Online Store: http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter You may find less expensive Lightning to HDMI adapters on Amazon or other electronics sites. Alternatively you can spend $45 or so more and get an Apple TV. It is a small box which you connect to your home WiFi or you can also connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable and you then connect its HDMI output to an HDMI input on your TV or surround sound receiver. You would then use Airplay to play content from your iPad Mini to your Apple TV wirelessly and you can also use Airplay mirroring which will show your iPad screen on your TV. To me the Apple TV is the more attractive option as it is also a wonderful device to use by itself for consuming content from Netflix (if you have a subscription), Youtube and other services. Re: Bible Reading App
the problem I have with it is that I don't have a reading plan and want to get to th various bibles, which this new upgrade will not allow. If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning start? - Original Message - From: Paul Hunt To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, April 22, 2014 8:30 AM Subject: Bible Reading App Hello everyone. Recently, the Bible app was updated and accessibility was broken. When I open the Bible app I get the verse of the day. When I activate the Menu button to access the menu so that I can launch my reading plan the menu is inaccessible to VoiceOver. Here's the work around that I found. 1. I double tap on the menu button. 2. I turn off Voiceover with the Tripple Click Home feature. 3. I single tap on the lower right hand corner of the screen. 4. I turn on Voiceover with the Tripple Click Home feature. My reading plan is launched. The developers actually made some improvements. First, if you use the Audio version, the app automatically speaks each reading. Then a dialog box opens with each reading checked. The dialog box shows progress and gives me the opportunity to share on Facebook and Twitter. I activate the Done button to close the dialog. As long as I don't close the app, my reading plan appears when I bring focus to the app. Now, for some of you savy influencers, how do we bring this to the attention of the developers and get them to fix it. How do we successfully play hide and seek when decision makers are it? Thanks so much. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: changing quantities in the pizza hut app
Hi all, I didn't download and successfully create an sign into my account and order something from Pizza Hut last night. The app is all accessible now in everything. The screen still jumps around a bit, but you can get back there by flicking. I think in a lot of things it is harder now to edit and read on the iPhone. Messages app suddenly very sluggish
Hi, I opened my messages app on my iPhone yesterday and I don’t know whether I was swiping to fast or something but all of a sudden the app is very sluggish and seems like it’s freezing up. I reset the phone a few times and plugged it in to pc to sync but still the same issue is there. Other than contacting apple, I don’t know what else to do. I’m just hoping this can be fixed. Re: Bible Reading App
I did write a review for the app this morning, stating that, though it is a great resource, accessibility has been broken for those of us who are blind or visually impaired. Don't know if the review will help the company see the need for, and value of, improved accessibility, but, in my opinion, several reviews with less than a four-star rating (I rated it three) couldn't hurt our cause. Re: Malware for jailbroken devices
My question is, is 7.1 jailbreak a boy yet? I've been so out of the loop lately with my radio station coming back online that I don't even know. However if it isn't, is there anyway I can go back to 7.04? The reason I ask this is because I had a very minor accident with my phone, where I downloaded patch that I wasn't paying attention to real well the notes on the patch, and it ended up messing up my phone so that it kept going in a boot loop, I had no other choice then but to re-download 7.1. I'm thinking there's no other way that I could ever go back to 7.04 is there? All the help would be very appreciated. Thank you very much. My opinion of the situation is that anyone who sticks to official repositories almost certainly won't have anything to worry about. There really is next to no reason to add any other repositories to Cydia unless you're wanting to stray into the more grey side of jailbreaking and whilst jailbreaking is all about being free to do what you want, personally, I feel that if one chooses to dabble with pirated apps you should accept that there is a possibility of this sort of thing happening. As a side note, the malware could be and quite possibly has been rendered useless by the termination of the hosting accounts where passwords were uploaded. If people who have an understanding of these sorts of things wish to verify if they have been infected or not, one possible root would be to sniff your iDevices traffic whilst making a purchase and examine the output of your sniffer to see where your credentials are being sent. RE: Eyes-Free Text Input on iOS
I have been following this thread with interest and curiocity. While I can read braille, I have hand injuries which prevent me from using any app which uses braille input, however, I find it strange how Ryan's proposal seems to be received in a somewhat negative way. Yes, there are already 2 or maybe 3 such apps out there, but why not support what Ryan and his team are doing and then judging whether their app is good or not. Considering how many audio recorder, notetaking, navigation/GPS apps are out there (and these are just 3 areas, I could name many more) what is wrong with having alternatives? Maybe Ryan and his team are going to release an app which is just going to blow all the others out of the water, maybe it's more or less the same and maybe it's a total flop; but to point out that he should have done his research as there are already 2 apps out there and speculating that it probably won't be very good because it's done by a bunch of students instead of a programmer with 30-year experience I find strange. Anyhow, while this programmer may have written code on an early DOS machine or maybe a Commodore, he or she certainly doesn't have 30 years experience with writing iOS apps since it's only been out for 7 years.Some kid who started writing apps at 15 would now be more or less ready to graduate university at 22 and could have written iOS apps for as long as iOS is around. Anybody who wants to know about the app and find out how it differs or is going to differ from MBraille could just sign up for the testing since I assume the app is not completely done and ready for prime time in which case they could have just released it informing the Viphone community of its existence. RE: Malware for jailbroken devices
No, you can't go back. If you want to jailbreak you probably have to wait until a 7.1 jailbreak is out. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Jerry Mader Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2014 8:05 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Malware for jailbroken devices My question is, is 7.1 jailbreak a boy yet? I agree, I was surprised at the reception. I hope my own message on the topic didn't come across as negative - I was just wondering what features this app has. It sounds like it uses a new method of input, so details on that would be interesting. I think people are still stinging from BrailleTouch. It was the first app of its kind (no, I'm not counting TypeInBraille) and many of us spent money on it. Then, the developer vanished, and the app hasn't been updated since, leaving many people to feel like they wasted their money and paid a developer to take the cash and run. Re: Eyes-Free Text Input on iOS
The app is free. The app description explains a little about the app's input method. It is for one handed input. So if you are familiar with braille note taking devices that have a one handed mode, you press the dots in the 1.2.3 column first, then press the dots that would be in the right column, but you actually are pressing in the same place just that the numbers change to 4.5.6. If there are no right-hand donss, you tap with your little finger. Tap twice with your little finger to enter a space. It was the first app of its kind (no, I'm not counting TypeInBraille) and many of us spent money on it. Then, the developer vanished, and the app hasn't been updated since, leaving many people to feel like they wasted their money and paid a developer to take the cash and run. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause the reaction to this new app. On Apr 23, 2014, at 11:24 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: I have been following this thread with interest and curiocity. Considering how many audio recorder, notetaking, navigation/GPS apps are out there (and these are just 3 areas, I could name many more) what is wrong with having alternatives? Maybe Ryan and his team are going to release an app which is just going to blow all the others out of the water, maybe it’s more or less the same and maybe it’s a total flop; but to point out that he should have done his research as there are already 2 apps out there and speculating that it probably won’t be very good because it’s done by a bunch of students instead of a prog rammer with 30-year experience I find strange. Anyhow, while this programmer may have written code on an early DOS machine or maybe a Commodore, he or she certainly doesn’t have 30 years experience with writing iOS apps since it’s only been out for 7 years.Some kid who started writing apps at 15 would now be more or less ready to graduate university at 22 and could have written iOS apps for as long as iOS is around. Anybody who wants to know about the app and find out how it differs or is going to differ from MBraille could just sign up for the testing since I assume the app is not completely done and ready for prime time in which case they could have just released it informing the Viphone community of its existence. Anyhow, just some thoughts and I do hope Ryan finds some people who will participate in a constructive way and I wish him luck. Hello I like the concept of your app although I'll probably stick to a 2 handed inpot method. i can see how in some instances it could be useful to have one hand free. So here are some first impressions: I could not easily find a way to send feedback. Would be nice if you added this as an option within the app. It would be good if the app would indicate how to hold the phone in landskape; with home button to the left or right. As it is, it took me a few tries to realise I have to turn the phone around 180 degrees. Also there's not clear documentation about deleting and editing in the input screen. Great start and intresting concept. Let me know if I can help in any other way. Ok, I will try to explain this speaker problem. If I use dictation in a text field, the speaker stays on and drains my battery. I can hear the speaker hissing. I am on an iPhone 5S and I do not know if this happens with other iDevices. Use dictation in a text field, then in a couple of minutes, put your ear up to the speaker, and listen for a hiss. My speaker is located down at the bottom right corner. If I use Siri via the home button after I use dictation, the speaker will turn off after a minute. However, if I forget to use Siri, my speaker stays on and my battery very quickly drains. I have not run the update, I am waiting a bit for some of the download traffic to slow down a bit, besides, I have not received an alert on my phone yet. :) After I run the update I will check to see if the speaker problem persists. If you can type fluently on the virtual keyboard, then it is of course, worth doing just that. For less fluent typists, then braille input is good. We can do it without having to pay so much attention to the mechanics of putting it in letter by letter. Others just use BT QWERTTY keyboards and get round it that way. Each to their own. Re: gps application with new features - Seeing Assistant Move
Hi, I’m not familiar with this app, I would like to know what your guys’s expiriences with this app compared to others that are similar. If you guys can give me some feedback I’d really appreciate it. I currently use blind square when trying to find a location, Google maps for transit info. Trialed the seeing eye app, but didn’t find my self using it as much to justifiy the cost, so I use Google maps in place of that. thanks Regards, Feliciano From: Seeing Assistant Sent: Wednesday, April 16, 2014 1:36 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: gps application with new features - Seeing Assistant Move Dear all, There is updated version of Seeing Assistant Move on the AppStore - version 1.8. What's new in this version: - possibility to use turn-by-turn navigation using external maps application - Apple Maps and Google Maps - associating an application with the extension .zip and. ldb - the ability to download databases directly from web sites or import from an e-mail - associating an application with the extension .ckp - the ability to import Loadstone checkpoints as a route - new action Edit point: view and edit the name and coordinates of a point, read saved accuracy - alarm for tracked points, new setting “alarm radius” is used to set how close to the point will be run alarm - added intermediate directions in exploration mode, e.g. north-east - simulating the new location does not require the stopping of simulating the previous point - visualization of the route on the map - database name can be changed - altitude above the level of the seas added to the GPS information - adding a route to the tracking points does not remove existing points from tracking In previous version 1.7.1 was added Italian translation. Ok, fair points, and I accept them. Research into the competition is still good to seek out the strengths, weaknesses, and eventually the gap in the market that needs a plug. Then, as you say, it would be even more worth while. Ok, osunds reasonable; one step beyond TypeInBraille, but some of us got good at that. Not sure how good tapping with a little finger is going to be, mine aren't that agile when it comes to typing. A 1finger flick used to work well enough. In truth, a simple or basic app that does its thing with absolute reliability - or as near as it gets within the limitations of the OS - it is worth keep ing on the device, if only as lifeboat fallback position. E.g: I didn't discard TypeInBraille for ages after I adopted mBraille, let alone BrailleTouch. Hi Christina, OK, I do get this behavior as well and that is after the 7.1.1 update. I have, however, not noticed that this significantly affects my battery although it is hard to say and I will try to really test this by doing the following: Tonight I will dictate something so that this speaker hiss is happening. I will make sure my iPhone is fully charged before, then I will lock the screen and see where my battery level is in the morning. Tomorrow evening I will do the same, but then use SIRI and listen to make sure the speaker hiss goes away, then I'll lock the screen and check the battery drain in the morning for the same amount of time. Hello Christina and anyone else interested, unfortunately, updating my iPhone 5s to 7.one.one has not corrected this issue. I also feel that this contributes to the battery drain issues that some of us of been experiencing. The workaround that I'm using for the time being is to trigger Siri after having used dictation. That is exactly what I do to make the speaker stop hissing. :) I just ask Siri for the current temperature. I forgot to note in my earlier email that the speaker always seems to hiss for around one minute but will then turn off. However, after dictating into a text field it will stay on for hours unless I trigger Siri. If I dictate before bed and don't force the speaker to shut off by using Siri, my 100% charged Phone will be down to 52 percent in the morning. Sometimes it will be at sixty something percent. iBooks with VO;iPhone reads punctuation, iPad doesn't;
When reading books on Kindle or iBooks on my iPhone 5 it is very distracting since it reads all the punctuation. I discovered that on the iPad Retina it does not read out the punctuation. I have been checking out all the settings but can’t find anything that mentions reading out punctuation or not. I would like to use the two apps but for fiction the punctuation is a total distraction. I don’t like to use the iPad because it is usually being used by my husband. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Would it make any difference to use different voices? I have no idea how to switch voices but I am willing to try. I guess I'm not sure why you might be having problems accessing the various versions. You have to be a new iDrive customer, but otherwise the deal is exactly as good as it sounds: 50GB of cloud storage for an impossibly low 99 cents per year. When iDrive first told me about this, I was sure it meant 99 cents for the first year, then a more typical $50 to $100 each year after that. But a company rep told me in no uncertain terms: 'It will be the same [99 cents] a year from now. [This is not] a first-year discount or limited-time offer,' Broida reports. To get it, you need one of the aforementioned iOS devices on which to install the iDrive app and sign up for an account. The 4 listed tracks state the Album title and specify it is the Original Broadway Cast, but then refers to Various Artists. I'm guessing the problem is that the native cd tagging is such that there isn't a consistent Album Artist, with different tracks listing different performers. But, I can't find the other 12 tracks, even when I search for the album title, Once. There wasn't an option before ripping that allowed me to check or modify the Album Artist, at least that I could find, or know how to find. Can someone help and guide me in how to tackle this? I understand that somehow there is a way to check an album as a compilation, but first I need to find the other 12 tracks, put them in the right sequence, etc. Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. Re: Help with ripped CD fragmenting in iTunes
On your PC, open itunes and find the Recently Added playlist. With any luck all the tracks will be listed from your cd. If so, you can highlight them all, Get Info and change the album title or artist etc for all tracks. Hope that will sort it! recording pro and handyrec
Hi all, I have 2 questions about these 2 recording apps. 1. When I double tapp on the recording pro to open up the app, it's wanting me to put in a password But I haven't even used this app yet. So do I need to enter a password everytime I go to open the app? 2. On the handyrec recording app do I need to use a mic when recording or not? But if so, what type of mic would I use with this app? RE: dictation
Hi Steve, A single finger double tap only works if Voiceover is focused on the Dictate button. One of the small but convenient improvements in iOS 7 is that as long as you are in edit mode a 2-finger double tap anywhere on the screen will start and stop dictation. As Christina pointed out, you do have to be in edit mode inside a text field otherwise the 2-finger double tap will do what it's supposed to do otherwise and that is to start and stop playing music or whatever was playing last.
