Re: Some questions about the current audible app

2015-11-16 Thread Mary Otten
I never have occasion to look at a wish list. Mine is so old and out of date,
frankly, that I really should just delete things in there and start over. But
regarding why you can't buy things with in the audible app. That is because
Apple takes a 30% cut. And Amazon does not want to give Apple 30% of its
audible sales, so it doesn't let you buy things in the app, just like you can't
buy books in the Kindle app. I think this is an Apple problem, not an Amazon
problem. They ask too much.

Re: Some questions about the current audible app

2015-11-16 Thread Shermeen Khan
Yikes, I didn't realize that Apple wanted 30% of the price! No wonder
amazon nixed that one. Good grief.

When I purchase something from my wishlist, it immediately gets
removed, so it is (sort of) up to date. I'd still like to be able to
see my wishlist from within the app itself though, and am wondering if
it's something that can be done in the current version. If no one
knows, I'll probably find out eventually when I update LOL.

I have the latest version of the audible app. Unless I'm missing something,
which is possible, being that I'm a new user to audible, but no there is not a
way to view your wishlist using the app.

Re: Apple TV 4th Gen, no voice over in Hulu

2015-11-16 Thread Mary Otten
I wonder if this is going to be an ever-growing problem with the new model of
access in Apple TV four. With the older version, you had built in
accessibility, because the basic framework was accessible. You had this grid
of channels. And you could navigate that because it was going to be accessible.
Now with these separate apps, companies are once again free to blow us off.
Very sad.

RE: Facebook with iOS9.1 and iPhone 4S?

2015-11-16 Thread Cristóbal
The facebook app has gotten better with accessibility, but it can still be a
bit buggy. That's more a function of the app and not necessarily anything to do
with the phone. Used messanger once or twice and at least the little I played
with it, it was accessible.
Since you're upgraded, you might as well take the plunge to the various apps.
Especially if they're free. You're going to get varying answers for every app
depending on people's experience. The worst thing that can happen is you just
delete it from your phone.

Some questions about the current audible app

2015-11-16 Thread Shermeen Khan
Hi list,

I'm just wondering if the current version of the audible app allows
you to view items on your wishlist. I can't even remember which
version of the app I have, although I know it's an old one, as I was
reluctant to update when I heard of the various issues people were
having. And I'm assuming one still can't purchase from directly within
the app? I suspect amazon does this on purpose, although I don't
really know why, as you can buy most anything else with your phone
these days.

Thanks in advance,

Shermeen

Got the Apple TV 4th Gen. Works great. How ever, when going into Hulu,
Voice over does not work. Is this a probelm others are experiencing? Or is
it a Hulu update problem? or Apple? Thanks.

Fast Forwarding In IPhone6Plus?

2015-11-16 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I have IPhone6Plus and IOS9.2

I listen to BBC Urdu Service at:

http://wsdownload.bbc.co.uk/urdu/css/32mp3/latest/sairbeen.mp3

everyday. When I fast forward the audio, some days it jumps in five minute
increment and other days by 30 minute increment. Can I fix this
inconsistency?

Thanks!

AppleTV 4th Generation and Accessibility

2015-11-16 Thread Brian Fischler
Unfortunately this dawned on me this weekend while playing around with the new
AppleTV. It seems that on the 3rd gen of AppleTV’s and previous Apple designed
all channels so everything was accessible. Now that AppleTV has gone to an apps
model it is up to the developer of the app to make sure the app is accessible.
Just look at Hulu, and the awful company known as ESPN. On the 3rd gen AppleTV
if you go to ESPN and channels everything is properly labeled. On the 4th gen
of AppleTV go to ESPN and channels and none of the channels are labeled. ESPN
has long not cared about accessibility and I am afraid with the new AppleTV we
are going to have to constantly be contacting app developers about
accessibility. Very disappointing as who has the time to constantly be
contacting app developers on every single platfrom.

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

I have a Mac, so I have no clue about how it works on the Windows side. But
can't you do it on an iPhone or an iPad? I assume that since this is the iPhone
list, you all have iPhones. Hence the question. Not saying it shouldn't be
doable on windows. Just wondering whether using your phone or other eye device
might not work fine in the meantime.

You definitely have an Apple ID. Every time you make a purchase from the App

where ex ex ex is your Apple ID. So, in your case, what is that XXX? If you
don't remember, I am not sure what to tell you.

How to use Siri to enter an appointment

2015-11-16 Thread Pinky
Hi Group,

What do you all say when you want to enter an appointment in the calendar
using Siri? When I tell Siri I want to enter an event and the date and time
she put in enter event in the name and I have to change it. Just want some
ideas on how other people do this.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Kimber Gardner
Any idea if it's easier with another browser or maybe with NVDA rather
than Jaws?

I was able to get it done with sighted help. But that shouldn't be necessary.

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Kathy Brandt
I'm doing more and more shopping on the iPhone. Not that I go to it as a first
resort, but recently, the Windows side was just so problematic, that I ended up
finishing a transaction on the iPhone. I had to get a sympathy card for someone
while I was away from home, and I ended up going to the site that the family
was dealing with, picking a card from there and sending it; it was great! I
realize that people a lot of times don't have alternative options; I am
grateful that I do. The Windows side seems to be getting more and more
complicated. I need to work on getting a little more comfortable with my
MacBook air that I've had since 2013. I guess I am more prone to go to the
iPhone if I can't do something on windows, since, even though sometimes it can
be interesting getting edit boxes and Pop-ups to work, most times I can, and
it's just so nice from wherever having a hand-held device to do things.

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
Whenever I have to update my payment information I have had no trouble
in using the App Store app on my iPhone to do so. Also, you can
buy/place orders for accessories and other things through the Apple
Store app. This makes the process of ordering things a little too
easy, especially since if you have a 6/+ or 6S/+, you can use Touch ID
to verify your identity and submit the payment. I suppose I could
update my info on a computer, but I find it easier to do it on the
phone. To do this, you go to the App Store app, select the Features
tab, and then from that tab at the bottom flick/swipe left a few times
to View Apple ID and double tap on this. You may be asked to enter
your password or use Touch ID to verify yourself, but then you should
be on a screen where you can view payment information, make changes,
and update or cancel any subscriptions you have open, like iTunes
Match or TuneIN Radio Premium, or others.

Wayne

Usually your Apple ID is your email address. I wonder if you are having my
iCloud issue. Even though it prompts me for my ID, to verify it (by entering my
password) I have two options: not now, or to go to settings/icloud. A friend
of mine today verified that she has my same issue when ever she turns her phone
on from when she had powered it off. I have other devices that this isn't
happening on, for which I use the same credentials. Even if I do the not now
option, I am still able to make App Store and iTunes store purchases.

Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Kimber Gardner
Please forgive the cross post, but this issue could negatively impact
a lot of iTunes users.

Yesterday I was asked to verify my payment information in iTunes. But
when I attempted to do it, I was unable to complete the required
fields for credit card expiration or to check the appropriate radio
button for my chosen card.

When I wrote to Apple accessibility, I received the following response.

"Hello,
Thank you for your email. At this time Apple includes support for the
Window-Eyes screen reader in iTunes. Other screen readers may require
an update.
If you find that another screen reader is not working correctly,
please check with the application developer to see if they have an
update for the software.

Apple Accessibility"

What kind of response is that?

Please write to Apple about this issue.

Best,
Kimber

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Kimber Gardner
I guess that's a possibility. I was just somewhat surprised at the
response I received from Apple which in essence said, too bad so sad.

A couple weeks ago I was trying to buy earpods from the online Apple
store. I couldn't get the transaction to complete successfully. So I
called Apple and was told to try a different browser since IE11
doesn't "always play nice" with the Apple site. I did finally complete
my purchase using Safari on my phone, but it seems like shoddy
customer service to say the least.

Hi Kathy, I too had this problem, and the way I solved it was to sign out of

iMessage, FaceTime...and signed into them all again. I've not been bugged since.

Re: Accessing Account Info from iTunes Store

2015-11-16 Thread Kathy Brandt
In the iTunes store, start from the dock where it says music, and flick to the
left; will say terms and conditions. Keep on going to the left and you will see
redeemed, below purchase. If it doesn't immediately come up, flick to the
right, from radio; you will see purchase, then redeem. Double tap on that, and
follow the prompts for entering your gift card code. If it's a physical card,
be sure to scratch off the one part so that you can read the correct numbers.
Hopefully it is in email card, that you can hit a link for to redeem it. Hope
this helps.

Re: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Several years ago, when Apple was beginning to make iTunes for Windows
accessible,it was G. W. Micro that worked with them to start the process. I
don't remember if Apple chose G. W. Micro, or if G. W. Micro initiated the
contact. But Apple's recommending Window Eyes as the preferred screen
reader has been in effect for quite a while. I use Jaws, and no virtually
nothing about Window Eyes, but I remember reading that Window Eyes does not
work as well with iTunes as it once did. I hope Window Eyes has been
updated to correct this problem.

Subject: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

Best,
Kimber

Accessing Account Info from iTunes Store

2015-11-16 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, All,

I received an iTunes gift card and would like to use it to make some purchases
from the iTunes store. I went under the heading of "More", but couldn't find
anything under "Purchases" or "Downloads". I tried to Google this information,
but couldn't get a satisfactory answer. This is certainly puzzling. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Apple TV 4th Gen, no voice over in Hulu

2015-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

Yes, apps may have to be made accessible with TVOS now just as they have to be
made accessible with iOS, but just because some developers may not have done so
or maybe have not done so yet because it’s all new to me still means I love the
new apple TV because it can do so much more than the old one. When everything
is said and done there will still be a ton more apps many of which will be
accessible and as the popularity of the Apple TV grows so will awareness about
accessibility.

But even now I totally love that when I watch a movie I can simply push the
SIRI button and say “What did he say” or “Rewind 3 minutes”, searching for
movies with SIRI works great and I just think this is only the start.

I have already heard how this apple TV is more like a Beta, that it’s
unfinished and surely Apple could have done better given how long it’s been
since they have last updated the Apple TV. I can sort of agree with this, but
playing devil’s advocate or maybe I should say “Apple’s advocate” one could
also argue that while this is the next generation Apple TV it is very much
almost a new device. The hardware is new, the remote is new and the platform
(TVOS) is also totally new. App developers only had a few months to come up
with apps and Apple is still hammering out deals with all the major networks
and content providers for the actual TV offering. I’m certainly willing to cut
them some slack and give them a year or so to see what they come up with. I
guess I choose to see it from the “glass half full” perspective rather than the
“glass half empty” perspective.

As for accessibility, all of us individually as well as whatever organisations
represent us as a group will just have to continue to lobby for accessibility
and make developers aware of the fact that their app may not be accessible. In
the case of a subscription based service like Hulu one can always cancel their
subscription aeven if you do so temporarily and make sure to explain when you
call in to cancel that they loose y our business because of a lack of
accessibility.

Best regards,

Sieghard

I wonder if this is going to be an ever-growing problem with the new model of
access in Apple TV four. With the older version, you had built in
accessibility, because the basic framework was accessible. You had this grid
of channels. And you could navigate that because it was going to be accessible.
Now with these separate apps, companies are once again free to blow us off.
Very sad.

RE: Nearly impossible to update/verify payment information in iTunes

2015-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kimber,

I have changed my credit card before and not that long ago and don't recall
having problems. I was using Jaws 16 at the time and did it in iTunes. Internet
Explorer definitely can have problems with some websites and while I still use
it as my default browser, I think everybody should have Firefox installed for
situations where IE doesn't work. I too find it interesting that Apple
"officially" supports Windows eyes and not Jaws which I think has probably a
much larger market share. Having said that, I don't recall ever having problems
with Jaws except of course with the iCloud.com website but that is definitely
Apple's fault and considering their commitment to accessibility, I still find
it hard to believe that after so many years they are not making that website
accessible.

Sieghard

I guess that's a possibility. I was just somewhat surprised at the response I
received from Apple which in essence said, too bad so sad.

A couple weeks ago I was trying to buy earpods from the online Apple store. I
couldn't get the transaction to complete successfully. So I called Apple and
was told to try a different browser since IE11 doesn't "always play nice" with
the Apple site. I did finally complete my purchase using Safari on my phone,
but it seems like shoddy customer service to say the least.
