Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-13 Thread Pete Nalda
I just bought an iPad mini 4 through my carrier for $20.00 down. And yeah,
probably too should've waited. But, all that said, this feels just as snappy as
my Mom's iPad Air 2. My thinking is that the A8 drives the 7.25" screen as fast
as my Mom's iPad Air 2 drives the 9.25" screen. My .02 worth. Will I upgrade
someday? Sure. I had to settle for a 32gb anyway.

2017-01-13 Thread Marie
This is exactly why I was asking if anyone thought they might be releasing a
newer model in the near future. I have no desire to have the larger IPad Air
and I like the fact that you can still hold a mini in one hand which, for
me, makes it easier to use. I don't need blazing fast performance so the
slower processor is not a huge factor to me.

Hi,

That depends on your definition of cope; mine's most likely different
to yours so listing examples would be rather pointless.

The CPU is the same one that is in the iPhone 6, so the question you
have to ask yourself is if you'd buy a 6 in 2017 when there are 2
newer options available.
The cheaper price arguement doesn't work either: in the UK at least if
you buy a mini from Apple you'll be paying £400. I recently purchased
a brand new iPad air 2 for £330. Admitidly the bump in spec isn't
huge, but a: that represents nearly a 20% decreace in price and b: one

To me at least, in 2017, the only reason I can see for someone to buy

difference to me - I was using a handfull of mini's to deliver a

that definitely doesn't mean it makes sense to spend more money on a

Re: Adding a song to an existing playlist in apple music

2017-01-13 Thread Brett
Hi,

I'm hearing you. I am not sure if they changed things, but more likely broke
things.

It use to be that you could flick through a playlist and when you found a song
you liked, you could flick up in the rotor to the "Add to playlist" option.
Double tapping this would then bring up a list of your playlists. You would
then just double tap on the one you wanted to add the song too.

Now, you need to first start playing the song, then open the now playing screen
before you can add it to a playlist. Much more combersome. I would suggest you
also write to Apple accessibility and let them know of this regression, as I
have done.

Cheers Brett.

Re: Adding a song to an existing playlist in apple music

2017-01-13 Thread Shermeen Khan
Thanks Alan. unfortunately, this article doesn't have the information
necessary to instruct me on adding songs to a playlist while swiping
through titles.

I wonder if I am truly the only person who cannot do this? or perhaps
there isn't high demand for this? it seems odd, though...

RE: Info needed on some applications

2017-01-13 Thread Thomas Domville
Hey Turab,

Well, I'm sorry to hear that BeSpecular is not in your AppStore. My first
advice would be to contact the developers of the BeSpecular and see if they
could or would consider making it available for your country. An educational
guess would be because of the language barrier they might have to contend with.
I'm not sure but you can certainly ask them.

As for being able to apply for another country AppStore with Apple. I can't
help you with this. As this is consider illegal with Apple to register for
another country AppStore that you do not reside in. I do realize that people do
this but I can't and won't be able to step you through the process of doing so.
For one not is it illegal but also I also think it is forbidden on this list to
do so. Lastly, you will need at least a home resident address and I'm not
certain but a bank card of some sort but I'm not certain on this.

But, back to the original question. Yeah, that is a real bummer that you are
unable to use the BeSpecular as that really works great. You could also
consider in contacting Be My Eyes and CroudVis to see if there is anything you
can do but in the end. I'm afraid it is the lack of volunteers that you are
seeing of no responses. I'm not certain if TapTapSee would another alternative
option to try. They aren't a so-called LIVE real time help but you can least
ask questions and hopefully get an response. Other than those three apps I am
not aware of another solution for you.

Good luck!

Regards,
Thomas

Hey Thomas
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. But BeSpecular is not available on the
Indian app store. And I do not have an account on the US app store. Can I have
two accounts? And if yes could you share the procedure?

Sounds not Coming Through on Bluetooth Speaker

2017-01-13 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
DH got me a Bluetooth speaker for Christmas. It's the Anker SoundCore
nano, and I really like it. The sound quality is really good, and the
portability is a nice bonus.

An odd thing happens with things like the timer. I can hear the
countdown happen, but when the selected sound effect for the timer
goes off, both the sound effect and VO comes through the iPod Touch's
external speaker and not the Bluetooth speaker. When I double tap the
OK button, the all sound reroutes back to the Bluetooth speaker.

Has anyone using an external Bluetooth speaker experienced this? Is
there anything I need to change? I looked at Settings and can't find
anything that seems like it would fix the problem.

Thanks,
Dani

Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-13 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi Evan,

I agree with you.

I have a desktop computer that is at least three to four years old, while my
daughter uses my laptop that is only a year old and much, much faster.

Either way, it's still a great computer to use and so I use it on a daily
basis.

I happen to know that there are people I know that are still using a
computer with Windows XP on it. They don't use Internet Explorer, and just
use Firefox, and they can't even get iTunes installed on it because the
latest version won't support it.

Regardless of that, one does find that apps tend to get more and more
sophisticated and processor intense, and so end getting slower and slower.
The device ends up taking longer and longer to load apps, and the simplest
functions end up getting more difficult and time consuming.

I agree with your mindset, as long as it will run it, why the heck not and
keep using a tried and true device.

I'm still using a 4S and have no intention of upgrading to the 7, least of
all it's lack of a headphone jack. Smiles.

Okay, okay, that might be true theoretically, but the real question is, what
apps do people want or need to use that a given device can't run because it
is too slow or for some other reason is outdated. That is the only practical
question. If there are significant numbers of apps, or even a few, that a
lot of people want or need that they can't run on their device, then the
device is for all practical purposes obsolete. But if there are none, or at
least none that people really want or need that it can't run, then what
practical difference does it make how old it is?

within six months of it's beta release, in other words, when it's released

For a chip, I don't think just under two years is ancient, but it is rather
old, Especially when you compare it to today's chips.

Need help synching Windows contacts with iPhone 5s

2017-01-13 Thread Jeff Samco
I used to be able to sync my Windows contacts with those on my iPhone
5s but now cannot. I am current with iTunes and use Window-Eyes.
Here's what I'm doing:

I connect my iPhone to my laptop running Windows 7.
I Open iTunes and wait for it to fully load.
I open the File menu and select devices. I get options to sync by
iPhone, transfer purchases, etc.

I arrow and select the sync option.
I used to then tab through various options which included
information, contacts or something like that. Then I could initiate the sync.

Now, I am prvented from tabbing. Pressing Enter starts the sync.
But neither my iPhone contacts nor Windows contacts are updated with changes.
Any tips on how to get my contacts to sync?
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-13 Thread Victor Gouveia
Actually, the rule of thumb is that computer technology becomes outdated
within six months of it's beta release, in other words, when it's released
to the public.

For a chip, I don't think just under two years is ancient, but it is rather
old, Especially when you compare it to today's chips.

Well, the chip in the iPad Mini 4 is (I think) just a shade over two years
old. Is that really that ancient? Do you have any examples of apps that you
think are useful that the iPad Mini 4 can't cope with?

RE: Any 2017 Apple-Related New Year Resolutions?

2017-01-13 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sandi,

This would be a marvelous achievement, for Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc to
factor in accessibility when vetting an app or its updates.

As far as we've come, as a viable purchasing demographic, we've so far to go.

It's a wonderful dream, however, and thank you for sharing it with us.

hi,
Very much doubt I will keep this one, being rather lazy, but I would like to
Lobby Apple to make voice-over accessability part of their screening When they
accept app upgrades et cetera. it would save us all a lot of time and anxiety,
were they to do this.
Best wishes, Sandy

Re: Question about reading an audiobook in Dropbox

2017-01-13 Thread Richard Turner

For me, unless I'm reading a book from BARD or an Audible book, I find using
Voice Dream is the best way to read audio books.
You have complete control over the listening speed, ability to bookmark,
rewind, etc.
Yet, you still have the human reader.
But, obviously, we all have our preferred methods.

2017-01-13 Thread Ann Byrne
Thank you for the suggestion. This is an amazing little
keyboard. Since it is for my student, who is not very sophisticated,
we can get along without re-assigning keys. I haven't figured out
how to get to the top or bottom of the screen with the keyboard, but
she/we can perform most of the functions we want. I have a lovely,
sophisticated Logitech something, which is a lot trickier to use. It
will do more, having the control-option combination available, but
for this person's purpose the simpler key assignments are better.

I have never tinkered with re-assigning keys. You have given me

Re: Adding a song to an existing playlist in apple music

2017-01-13 Thread Shermeen Khan
Hmmm, perhaps I'm not explaining myself well.

I mean that I am having difficulty adding a song from, say, an apple
suggested playlist to an existing playlist I have on my phone. So, if
I have their suggested playlist up, and in swiping right through the
titles of the song, I see one I'd like to add to one of my own
existing playlists, I can't in fact just double tap it, as this will
only make the song start to play. If I do want to add it to an
existing playlist, I have to double tap the song title, which will
make it start playing, then bring up the mini player, find the more
button, and then choose add to playlist. So this means that I am not
actually able to spontaneously add songs to an existing playlist
without actually listening to them. If I recall correctly, this was
not the case in ios9. And if I do flick up and down on a song title,
there is no "more" option--just activate and add to library. am I
making sense? are other people having this difficulty too?

Thanks in advance!

Shermeen

Re: iTunes tones

2017-01-13 Thread Richard Turner

I found that it is the "Complete" sound for when iTunes finishes downloading
something, or finishes syncing. On my Windows 10 computer, I went into the
sound scheme and set that sound to none and hit apply.
That way, while I'm listening to music I don't have to keep hearing it every
few seconds.
I'll contact Apple Accessibility and see if they have any ideas.

It’s so easy, just sync your voice recordings with itunes with your pc and you
have them in a folder mostly in your music folder under itunes and itunes

Direct TV Now is swinging for the fences! Not only are they offering a
free appleTV4 if you commit to 3 months of service, but for a limited time, you
can get over 100 channels for 35 bucks, and add on HBO and cenamax for only 5
bucks each. That is huge! Considering HBO is 15 bucks by itself on appleTV
and other cable providers. Read more here

Re: transfer audio files from my iPhone to my computer

2017-01-13 Thread Richard Turner

Well, in that case, you would have to either use iTunes and make sure that sync
Voice Memos is checked, or you will have to open each recording and double tap
on the share button and select Dropbox or iCloud Drive, assuming you have that
much memory available on something like that.
This is one reason why I use an app like Audio Memos Pro because I can download
the recordings over wifi directly to my computer.
This is also why one needs to back things up on a regular basis to avoid a
situation like this.
But, like you, I only got into the habit of backing things up regularly after
having to spend an insane amount of time dealing with a similar situation.
Best of luck,
Richard

Hi guys,

I have bunches of audio recordings in my iPhone. I think that they are more
than 5gb. I need to transfer all these audio files to my computer, and later
transfer them to a USB drive. How can I take those files stored in my phone,
and transfer them to my computer as a phicical file outside iTunes

Thanks

Upload to Dropbox, GoogleDrive or other cloud, to which your computer is
registered too, so when you go to these on your computer, just copy them onto a
USB drive. Good luck!

Re: unhiding the iphone keyboard

2017-01-13 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Rebecca.
To mz knowledge, there is not a gesture which will accomplicsh this. You have
to either hit the eject key on your BT keyboard or space with sh on your
braille keyboard. You can take the time to go to the braille settings under VO
and toggle the show/hide on-screen keyboard, but I've found this doesn't always
bring it back either. You may wish to consider reporting this to Apple as a
bug. Not sure it will be resolved, as it's been around for several versions of
iOS. I forgot about it until you brought it up last week.

Re: Ordered my airpods!

2017-01-13 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I got that battery charging dialogue to pop up occasionally, but not
consistently, until I accidentally figured out how to do it. With the screen
unlocked, open the case, and hold it almost against the top edge of your phone,
and after a bit, the dialogue will appear, giving the charge status, both of
the air pods themselves, and the case. When you close the case, the dialogue
goes away. It is as if you are using Apple Pay, at least the same sensor, to
trigger this dialogue.

As far as the volume control, I use the volume controls on my phone. In fact, I
have gone into the settings for the air pods and switched the double tap just
to pause the music and answer calls. Changing the settings on the air pods is
different from anything else I have encountered. Ask google how to change the
air pod settings, or I will explain it later.

Re: Any 2017 Apple-Related New Year Resolutions?

2017-01-13 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
hi,
Very much doubt I will keep this one, being rather lazy, but I would like to
Lobby Apple to make voice-over accessability part of their screening When they
accept app upgrades et cetera. it would save us all a lot of time and anxiety,
were they to do this.
Best wishes, Sandy
