Re: Need bluetooth keyboard recommendation, please.

2019-07-28 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd recommend the Logitech K-380. It doesn't fold, but it's thin and
will easily fit into a small bag. It's great to type on, and it feels
pretty solid. It's easy to use on your lap. It won't fit into a pocket,
but if you're taking a roller board on a trip or a brief case to the
office then it can easily go with you. It'll also pair to three devices,
so you can switch from device to device by just hitting F1, F2 or F3.

The keyboard does not have to be a regular-size keyboard, but
confortable typing and small/medium size are things I would like.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: email attachments - how to open or save them

2019-07-28 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
I am presuming that this concerns reading e-mail on the iPhone.

As far as opening an attachment, locate the attached file name and double-tap
on that. If you have an appropriate app on your iPhone, the attachment should
open within that app.

So far as saving an attachment, I never gave it much thought so am not able to
offer any answers there.

By the way, if the attachment is a file type that you do not have an
appropriate app to open it it will not open. And, remember that if the
attachment is a PDF file containing a photocopy you will not have much luck
with it unless your iPhone has an OCR app of some sort.

Hi, list.

I have logged out of my iPhone8 this morning and then logged in back in 5
minutes.

When I went to WhatsApp, it asked for my permission for something and I said no
without hearing it.

Now WhatsApp is showing just the phone number of my contacts, not their names.
I want to hear their names, what should I do in order to hear their names,
please?

Thanks!

RE: Reccomendations needed for noise-canceling headphones

2019-07-28 Thread Richard Petty
Thanks for the recommendation. These look quite good on the Amazon page. Price
is right.

The ear cushions seem to be covered in polyurethane impregnated leather, which
one reviewer described as “dogahide PU leather.” As a dog lover, I was
compelled to go look on the Web for a definition of PU leather and came away
heartened that that PU leather is indeed leather. Now, no barrier for me to
buying these earpieces.

Re: WhatsApp Is Just Reading Contact Numbers, Not Their Names, How Can I Fix This, Please?

2019-07-28 Thread TaraPrakash
I guess you’ll have to go to settings and then privacy and then contacts where
you will find different programs requesting your contact information you have
to enable WhatsApp. When I say settings it’s the iPhone settings and not the
WhatsApp settings.
Hope that helps

RE: Reccomendations needed for noise-canceling headphones

2019-07-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You sometimes get what you pay for, but in many cases you also pay a lot more
for brand name stuff which is not very different from a non branded product.
When I look at these headphones from Sony and if they even show the
information, they may use the same Bluetooth chip as a much cheaper product,
after all, the chips are usually not made by Sony or Bose but by a third party
manufacturer. These Boltunes headphones I bought for $72 Canadian (the were I
think $59 US were well-made, they had already a Bluetooth 5.0 chip whereas most
of the high-end brands still use Bluetooth 4.1 or 4.2 and they sounded very
good. I simply decided over the ear was not for me, that would be no different
if I bought a $300 Sony or Bose.

Hi, list.

I have logged out of my iPhone8 this morning and then logged in back in 5
minutes.

When I went to WhatsApp, it asked for my permission for something and I said no
without hearing it.

Now WhatsApp is showing just the phone number of my contacts, not their names.
I want to hear their names, what should I do in order to hear their names,
please?

Thanks!

RE: iPhone5S Does Not Ring Any More?

Thank you very much, both phone are ringing now like before.

You go to Settings > Facetime and where you see the button with your Apple Id
you double tap, then a small menu pops up and you double tap on Sign Out.

Then check Messages, chances are signing out of Facetime it will also sign you
out of iMessage, but if not also sign out there.

Lastly, go to Settings and the very first item on top with your Apple Id,
double tap on that and at the very bottom also Sign out.

Now I would maybe reboot the phone, then do it in reverse, first go to Settings
> Apple Id (the one at the very top) and sign back in.

Now go to Facetime and sign in and, if it doesn’t sign you into iMessage as
well sign in there as well.

Maybe turn the iPhone 8 off and back on, if that does not help I would sign out
of Facetime and iCloud and sign back in and see if that helps.

The fact that it is turned off on the iPhon e8 which has the SIM card is
definitely the problem since the call comes in on it so unless this can be
turned on any other device won’t be able to connect/share the call.

On iPhone5S, calls on other devices is on.

On iPhone8, however, calls on other devices is off. When I tried to turn it on,
I got the following error message:

“FaceTime and iCloud must be signed in to the same Apple ID to enable Calls on
Other Devices.”

When I swiped right, it says:

“Cannot Turn On Calls on Other Devices.”

Both phone are under the same network and FaceTime and iCloud are signed in to
the same Apple ID too.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!

Hi Fazil,

If you reset your iPhone 8 maybe calls on other devices got turned off. Go to
Settings > Phone and make sure this is turned on (also check it on the 5S) and
that both phones are signed in to the same Apple Id.

Hi list.

I have iPhone8 and iPhone5S.

Iphone8 has my SIM and iPhone5S does not have a SIM. Since both of these phone
are on the same network, so both phone ring when someone calls me. I like this
because if you are away from one phone and close to the other, you can answer
the call on any of those phone.

For the last 7 days, Iphone5S does not ring and I don’t know the reason.

I reset all settings on iPhone8 a week ago, I am not sure if 5S is not ringing
any more because of this reset.

Yesterday, I updated both to iOS12.4 but 5S still doesn’t ring.

I want my both phone ring when I have a call.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, list.
I have logged out of my iPhone8 this morning and then logged in back in 5
minutes.
When I went to WhatsApp, it asked for my permission for something and I said no
without hearing it.
Now WhatsApp is showing just the phone number of my contacts, not their names.
I want to hear their names, what should I do in order to hear their names,
please?
Thanks!

RE: Question about whatsapp and siri

2019-07-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You have to give WhatsApp permission to access your contacts and then you can
call those who also use WhatsApp. You can’t call somebody who doesn’t also use
WhatsApp, it’s not like Skype which allows you to call regular phone numbers if
you have a subscription or credit to pay as you go.

That is not correct, I use SIRI all the time t make WhatsApp calls. This even
works when WhatsApp is closed and the iPhone is locked. Let’s say I have John
Smith as a WhatsApp contact, I will simply bring up SIRI and say “Call John
Smith via WhatsApp” or “Call John Smiths with WhatsApp” or “Make a WhatsApp

Re: Reccomendations needed for noise-canceling headphones

2019-07-28 Thread 'EVA PIMENTEL' via VIPhone
Hello, I did end up purchasing some noise canceling headphones that work very
well. I don’t remember the model or the brand but it’s nothing that I recognize
before. I just couldn’t afford anything that was so expensive. Anyway, they
seem to do the trick and I can kind a relax now while I’m at dialysis and not
hear all the goings-on in there. Thank you very much for getting back to me.
Best, eve

Hello Eve,

Pretty late reply;) In case you are still in search of noise canceling
headphones, the ones from Sony are the best you can get at the moment.
Specifically the Sony WH-1000XM3 over ear model which retails for about 300
euro. And the brand new

Don't know about the availability and pricing in your country. Many reviews

WhatsApp Is Just Reading Contact Numbers, Not Their Names, How Can I Fix This, Please?

2019-07-28 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I have logged out of my iPhone8 this morning and then logged in back in 5
minutes.

When I went to WhatsApp, it asked for my permission for something and I said
no without hearing it.

Now WhatsApp is showing just the phone number of my contacts, not their
names. I want to hear their names, what should I do in order to hear their
names, please?

Thanks!

RE: Need bluetooth keyboard recommendation, please.

2019-07-28 Thread Richard Turner
I was just researching this for myself for work.
One that looks ery promising is by iClever, and is a full sized keyboard when
folded out.

Here is the link on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Bluetooth-Rechargeable-Ultra-Slim-Connection/dp/B07PV6NDB2/ref=dp_ob_image_ce

Also, here is a page with reviews of 10 foldable keyboards. The one I
mentioned is a new version of one of the ones on this list:
https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-foldable-keyboards

I usually recommend a Logitech non-foldable keyboard with a carrying case by
Hermit Shell, which uses two triple A batteries, so less hassle when needing to
replace the battery.
I like the Logitech K480, no number pad, but not needed if only using with
Apple devices.

The keyboard does not have to be a regular-size keyboard, but confortable
typing and small/medium size are things I would like.
Thank you for your help in advance.

RE: Help with native Twitter app

2019-07-28 Thread Fazil
Hi, Kathy.
It annoyed me too in the beginning but I found a work around. When that
happens, I put my finger in the middle of the screen but do it without any
pressure on the screen, just a very very light touch with my finger-tip and
then swipe down with two fingers and the reading resumes from there.
Thanks!

Honestly, I only use the native Twitter app for notifications. Otherwise, it’s
only Twitterrific. Completely voiceover accessible and filters out a lot of the
Twitter stuff. Promoted tweets, who I should follow, etc.… It’s like a reader
mode of Twitter. Nice simple and clean. On Jul 28, 2019, at 5:30 AM, Kathy

RE: Low Volume with Bluetooth Earpieces When Reading iPhone with VoiceOver

2019-07-28 Thread Richard Petty
Tara and all,

Thanks. I've attempted to resolve with all of these. I spoke with the
Sennheiser technical support line and Apple disability support line. Neither
had solutions. Apple support said they would submit a problem ticket to their
"engineering" section.

Finally, I purchased a Plantronics VOYAGER-5200-UC from Amazon (for a simple
return, if needed). It does seem to have a higher volume level and I am keeping
the earpiece.

After much reflection, I also may need to consider joining the group wishing to
present concerns to hearing aid producers.

Thanks.

Dear Lynda & List:
Sounds as if Resound needs to explain it to Mr. Justice over at the U. S.

landmark is The White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

I would start the fun, but am not an American, nor do I own any Resound Hearing

action against them at his Courthouse.

I am a long-time hearing aid user. I have had resound hearing aids in the past.
The lack of accessibility and commitment to fix it has been a long-standing
problem. Last year I purchased new hearing aids from Oticon. Not only does the
sound quality blow Resound right out of the water, the accessibility of their
app is considerably better.

When my audiologist was helping me select new hearing aids, she mentioned that
she had attended a conference where there was limited discussion regarding
accessibility of apps for individuals who are blind/visually impaired and using
hearing aids. If my memory serves me right, she mentioned that Apple was
working with several hearing aid companies to make sure pairing of the hearing
aids went as smoothly as possible. May I suggest you contact Apple

On iPhone8, however, calls on other devices is off. When I tried to turn it on,

“FaceTime and iCloud must be signed in to the same Apple ID to enable Calls on

When I swiped right, it says:

If you reset your iPhone 8 maybe calls on other devices got turned off. Go to

Thanks!

RE: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read

2019-07-28 Thread Brian K. Lingard
Dear Steve & List:
Pack your 5440, take the 09:14 to Dodge, and let them have it at High Noon!
Resound never considered that anyone with a vision problem would be prescribed
their hearing aids.

Or visit the DOJ. Take the Uptown "E" from 23 St. Station to Penn Station. Then
the Acela to DC Union Station. Not cheap, First Class is $455 each way. Think
Amtrak sells monthly Acela tickets.
Rachel and I Safaried to Washington DC Union Station one day to visit a friend
of mine by the Acela. She loved the lack of screaming kids, complimentary
Coffee, O. J. etc. in the Metropolitan Lounge just for First Class travelers.
Asked about the fare and almost died. Said we could have flown for that. Liked
the comp. headphones and hot meal with the works.

One un-advertised perk of First-Class Amtrak is the bar is bottomless! One of
their agents said if this were advertised, the W. C. T. U. would lobby Congress
to pass The Volstead Act II.

Friend of mine living in my building was told The Blue Rinse Mob leave their
meeting at their venue, Willard Hall, and promptly proceed to Mickey Finn's Bar
& Grill across the street!
He said they sure do! And they enjoy the bar!
He said they are all hypocrites.

Absolutely correct. And the salespeople are equally as clueless. They even
recommended I contact my phone carrier for support. And the stupid audiologist
who sold me these otherwise fine devices agreed with them, saying he thought it
was the best idea! Wait until I go back for my first follow-up on the 13th and
tell him the interest I've aroused on this list! I hope all you Resound users
are carrying the flag over to the Resound people and letting them know we're
out here and something needs to be done. Of course, we don't have to get
militant on them, or in the words of a set of books I just finished reading, we
don't have to get western on them (LOL), but we're out here, and equal access
isn't just an idea any more.

I think someone posted that there was a blind hearing aid list. Could
someone post the link to it please?

Better yet. I’d appreciate suggestions on hearing ids that met our
accessibility needs since I’m probably going to get a hearing aid for my left
ear soon.

I don't know how many companies audiologist work with or any of that. This
past Tuesday was my first-ever experience with these things, and while the
hardware's great, the software was as has been described. Inaccessibility just
isn't a thing any more.

As for the ReSound contact link, I did post it, but here it is again.

gave up after 2 months and decided to keep my old set. However, these are

could be assured of accessibility. I went to the link but only found an email

find the form again, and I really, really hope we can meet with this company.
Sounds like they would make some money if they helped us.

RE: Question about whatsapp and siri

2019-07-28 Thread 'evergreenwoods' via VIPhone
Hello,

Besides the regular list of contacts, do I need to have a list of contacts for
Whatsapp in order to ask siri to make a call via whatsapp?

That is not correct, I use SIRI all the time t make WhatsApp calls. This even
works when WhatsApp is closed and the iPhone is locked. Let’s say I have John
Smith as a WhatsApp contact, I will simply bring up SIRI and say “Call John
Smith via WhatsApp” or “Call John Smiths with WhatsApp” or “Make a WhatsApp
call to John Smith”.

I open whatsapp and ask siri to call someone, but siri calls using the regular

Thank you,

RE: iPhone5S Does Not Ring Any More?

2019-07-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maybe turn the iPhone 8 off and back on, if that does not help I would sign out
of Facetime and iCloud and sign back in and see if that helps.
The fact that it is turned off on the iPhon e8 which has the SIM card is
definitely the problem since the call comes in on it so unless this can be
turned on any other device won’t be able to connect/share the call.

Thanks much, Sieghard.

Subject: iPhone5S Does Not Ring Any More?

Thanks!
