It looks like a call to Apple Accessibility is needed. Let us know if they can
fix the issue?

I knew you culd Russ, but I don’t have an add button.

I had my wife check and she didn’t see one anywhere.

As usual, my system has some odd behaviors.

Thanks,

Richard

I was able to use File Sharing between iTunes for Windows and an ipad mini 4
running iOS 13.1.3. I was able to tab over to the add button and import a zip
file.

Has anyone been able to use File Sharing between iTunes for Windows and an
iPhone running iOS 13.1.3?

When I navigate to the File Sharing in iTunes, and then tab to the
applications, arrow down to Voice Dream Reader, and tab, there is no Add
document button.

Anyone else having this issue?

Hi,

Your answer to that question will depend on what you use your computer for and
why you specifically want a Mac.

Best,

Hi,

Has anyone gotten this to work in Windows? I got it to work with my Mac, and I
found the IPV4 address for my Windows machine. I don't get any errors when I
try to connect my iPhone to my windows machine, but I don't see any Windows
files or folders on my iPhone. I've tried several Google searches and some
experimenting with no luck, and I confirmed that the iOS 13.1 manual has no
information about this

Thanks for any help,
Anna

Hi,

Your answer to that question will depend on what you use your computer for and
why you specifically want a Mac.

Do you need (or would have great benefit) from portability? If so, the iMac
shouldn't be under consideration. Lovely machine, but at the far end from
portable. But I agree with the suggestion to hit up the local Apple store.
Don't neglect asking about older/refurbished models ... often not on
display, but Apple usually has a large number available ... the folks in
store might be able to help you try out the nearest current model.

Aside from the obvious (processor, memory, disk/ssd) the biggest usability
differences are the keyboards (older tends to be better ;<) and available
ports (newest models are all USB C ... which means dongles to use most
external devices) ...

RE: SMB file sharing

2019-09-26 Thread Ian Robinson
Hi Anna,

I used to use an app which would allow me to access files on my Windows laptop
from my phone. I can't recall the details now, but for the feature to work I
think I had to enable File sharing within Windows 10. Once that was done, back
in the app, I had to enter my Windows user name and password.

I don't own an iPad, so can't confirm that the same will be true for SMB File
Sharing.

Regards.

Ann, could you write me off list. I have an opportunity to apply for a grant to

Thanks for any help,
Anna

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-28 Thread Chris Smart

You're not the only person to have noticed this. Perhaps they're too
focused on iOS and OS X is slipping.
At 03:24 PM 7/27/2015, you wrote:
I wish they would stop breaking
accessibility, it seems to become more and more difficult with each
successive update of 12. Nothing seems to work right now except
backup. Certainly getting into the app store is next to impossible
and I’d much prefer to use the computer keyboard as compared to the
virtual one.

Too many tabs, and I most definitely preferred the previous app listing
as compared to what we now have. Seems to me that Apple wants to
make life difficult with iTunes anyway. They seem to keep taking
accessible features away.

It’s not only the file sharing that isn’t possible any more. I used
to be able to tab into my list of available apps and install or uninstall
anywhere from one to many at the same time by simply going down the list
and checking the ones I wanted or didn’t want. Now that list view only
shows app sizes and while I can tab around and find apps as well as
install or remove buttons, it’s really clunky and certainly not
efficient as before. Oh well, let’s hope that in time Apple and the
screenreader companies get this fixed again.

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under
file sharing does not read. So, if you arrow down the list, you hear
nothing. However, If you are on an app that does not read, and you tab a
number of times, You will get to the file and the date of the file that
relates to that silent app you are on in the list. There is then an add
button and a save as button. Of course, if you are not on the right app,
you have to back tab to the silent list again, arrow up or down, and tab
to the file name all over again. Yikes! I do hope they fix this one.

Hi, In an earlier version of iTunes, if you went to your phone, there were
two columns of apps. One that showed what apps were on the phone, and the other
consisting of apps which you could use to transfer data or music, etc. from
your phone to your computer. In Windows, I can no longer find this second
column. So, how does one, for example, transfer a file one has recorded on an
app like BossJock or AudioMemos from the phone to a windows computer running
iTunes 12.2. Thanks for any help.

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under
file sharing does not read. So, if you arrow down the list, you hear nothing.
However, If you are on an app that does not read, and you tab a number of
times, You will get to the file and the date of the file that relates to that
silent app you are on in the list. There is then an add button and a save as
button. Of course, if you are not on the right app, you have to back tab to the
silent list again, arrow up or down, and tab to the file name all over again.
Yikes! I do hope they fix this one.

File Sharing

2015-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
In the latest version of iTunes, is anyone having any success in using file
sharing?

It is completely useless for me with either Window-Eyes 9.1 or the latest
NVDA.

It seems impossible to figure out which app is selected until you tab into
the list of files and it is never the one that last spoke with a screen
reader.

I've written Apple Accessibility about this but who knows when Apple might
address it.

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
I think audio memos might have a way to do this with your browser.

I need to go look again.

But, I think Apple has completely destroyed accessibility with this feature in
the latest iTunes.

I have written them and the folks at AI Squared.

I wold suggest everyone else write Apple Accessibility and their screen reader
manufacturer as well.

This is completely nuts.

Hi, In an earlier version of iTunes, if you went to your phone, there were two
columns of apps.

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-26 Thread Neal Ewers
OK, After much playing around, file sharing is still with us, but boy, it is
almost impossible to do and doing it at all is not easy. I will have to do it a
few more times to get the hang of it and then perhaps by the time I am ready to
describe it, they will release a new version of iTunes that works. We can only
hope.

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-26 Thread Neal Ewers
Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under file
sharing does not read.
Yikes! I do hope they fix this one.

busted in iTunes 12.2. Oh, how nice. Perhaps if I ask Siri to tell me how to do

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
I have no idea if it is possible since it is not accessible.

I have not had a chance to ask a sighted person if they can still do this.

I’m somewhat going on the assumption they can, or we would have heard a lot
more about it.

Hi, In an earlier version of iTunes, if you went to your phone, there were two
columns of apps.

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s not only the file sharing that isn’t possible any more. I used to be able
to tab into my list of available apps and install or uninstall anywhere from
one to many at the same time by simply going down the list and checking the
ones I wanted or didn’t want. Now that list view only shows app sizes and while
I can tab around and find apps as well as install or remove buttons, it’s
really clunky and certainly not efficient as before. Oh well, let’s hope that
in time Apple and the screenreader companies get this fixed again.

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under file
sharing does not read.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for this explanation of how file sharing works between iphone and
iTunes. This will also help me to move files from computer to device bypassing
icloud and/or dropbox which doesn't always work well for me.

Best wishes

Yes, you are correct that when your device is selected in iTunes and you
have the Apps tab selected, there is a File Sharing section at the bottom.
This lists the apps on your device where files can be added from the
computer (the Add File button) or transferred from the device to the
computer (the Save To button). In order to save files from the device to the
computer, the app containing the file must have focus and you must then tab
to the list of files it contains to select the one you want to save to the
 computer.

I use this section to transfer the KeePass database file which I maintain on
my computer running Windows XP to my Mini KeePass app on my phone. This
could also be done using Dropbox but I have a hesitancy to place my password
files in the cloud even if they are encrypted.

 Hi,

I've just notice this: when choosing which apps I wanted to sync to my
iphone in itunes, past the table with all available apps where you choose
whether to install or uninstall apps from your iphone, there's a section to
do with file sharing. Voiceover says: The apps listed below can transfer
documents between your iPhone and this computer. And then to the right
there's a table of apps that can share files with the computer and to the
right another table which is empty and then an 'add' button. I guess one
can choose here where such files when shared are to be downloaded onto one's
computer? Is this right? I'd appreciate some comments on this. I don't
quite know what else one would add here.

 Many thanks

 Andrew

File sharing between iphone and the computer in itunes sinking options

2015-02-27 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

I've just notice this: when choosing which apps I wanted to sync to my iphone
in itunes, past the table with all available apps where you choose whether to
install or uninstall apps from your iphone, there's a section to do with file
sharing. Voiceover says: The apps listed below can transfer documents between
your iPhone and this computer. And then to the right there's a table of apps
that can share files with the computer and to the right another table which is
empty and then an 'add' button. I guess one can choose here where such files
when shared are to be downloaded onto one's computer? Is this right? I'd
appreciate some comments on this. I don't quite know what else one would add
here.

Many thanks

Andrew

RE: File sharing between iphone and the computer in itunes sinking options

2015-02-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Andrew,

Yes, you are correct that when your device is selected in iTunes and you
have the Apps tab selected, there is a File Sharing section at the bottom.
This lists the apps on your device where files can be added from the
computer (the Add File button) or transferred from the device to the
computer (the Save To button). In order to save files from the device to the
computer, the app containing the file must have focus and you must then tab
to the list of files it contains to select the one you want to save to the
computer.

I use this section to transfer the KeePass database file which I maintain on
my computer running Windows XP to my Mini KeePass app on my phone. This
could also be done using Dropbox but I have a hesitancy to place my password
files in the cloud even if they are encrypted.

iTunes File Sharing and Voice Dream

2014-03-24 Thread Alan Lemly
I thought I had a pretty good handle on how file sharing works using iTunes.
With focus set on my iPhone 5 in iTunes 11.1.5, I select apps and go to the
File Sharing section where I place focus on Voice Dream. In the section
labeled Voice Dream Documents, I have one item listed as Voice Dream
Library. When focus is placed on that item, two buttons are available at the
bottom of the screen: 1. Add for browsing to a folder on the computer from
which to choose a file to add to Voice Dream and, 2. Save To for saving one
of the files on the phone in the Voice Dream library to the computer.

My confusion is that I was expecting to see several files in the Voice Dream
Documents section since I have a number of books in Voice Dream. But all
that is listed is Voice Dream Library which seems like a folder with
everything that is in Voice Dream. I don't want to save everything to my
computer but only certain titles. Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Thanks for any clarification that can be supplied.

What happens when you click on the second of the 2 buttons? i.e. ... and, 2.
Save To for saving one of the files on the phone in the Voice Dream library to
the computer.

As I hear this, it sounds like if you click on that button, you might be able
to pick 1 of the files from the VDR Library to save to your computer. And, as I
understand what you want to do, that sounds like it.

Sorry if I'm confused.

No, you're not confused at all. I was thinking just like you but whim I clicked
the add to button, I was not presented with the list of titles on voice dream

iTunes File Sharing Mostly Miss

2013-12-08 Thread Dani L Pagador
Hi, Everyone.

I was missing the last, all important step re adding Bard books through
iTunes: hitting the Sync button. I was following instructions from
can't-remember-where and didn't hit the Sync button because there was
nothing in the directions about doing that. I'm new to file sharing; I know
you can do it, but haven't had a reason to try it till now. It didn't click
that iTunes was the link between the computer and the iDevice, that I have
to sync/give the OK for the transfer to the iPod via iTunes.

But . I've only been able to download _one book. I tried replicating the
steps and haven't been successful. I get the three tone chime from iTunes
that seems like a sync happened, and the Documents portion of the Bard
Mobile app is blank. But no doorbell on Berd Mobile's end.

Are there any settings I should be looking at?

Thanks,

Dani

RE: Itunes file sharing

2013-10-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Ketan,

If you could provide a more specific example of what you want to transfer
and whether you want to transfer a file from iTunes/your computer to the
iPhone or vice versa it would help.

In general terms, once you connect your iPhone to iTunes and go to your
Device, you will find a File Transfer section under the Apps Tab.

You can use F6 to get there after checking the Apps radio button, your
screen reader should say the following:

The apps listed below can transfer documents between your iPhone and this
computer

Once you hear this, tab 3 more time and you are in a tree view which shows
any apps you have and which are compatible with iTunes file transfer.

For example, my first app in that list is Downcast.

If I arrow to it in the tree view and then tab once, I hear Applevis
Podcast., this is a Podcast I subscribe to.

I can now tab and the first tab after the list box puts me on an Add
button. This you would use if you wanted to transfer a file from your
computer to Downcast.

Tab one more time and you are on a Save As button. This is for saving
files/documents from your iPhone to the computer.

If I press the spacebar on Save As a standard Windows Save As dialogue
opens. If I browse, for example, to my Downloads folder and press Select
Folder and then check I now have an Applevis folder in my Downloads folder
which contains Podcast episodes.

Interestingly enough I found it contained an episode which I had downloaded
and listened to some months back, but it did not contain the episode about
Blindsquare which I currently have downloaded as my only episode in
Applevis. I also have the latest episode of FS Cast downloaded, but under
Downcast I only saw Applevis and not FS Cast. It appears like there should
be a way to refresh this list, but I'm not sure how right now since I
actually haven't often used the File Transfer feature. It's fairly straight
forward, and I'm sure I am missing something obvious with respect to the
refreshing issue.

Hopefully this gives you something to start with, just post more information
about what exactly you want to do if you need more help and I'm sure
somebody will be able to help.

Regards,

Re: Itunes file sharing

2013-10-08 Thread Ketan Kothari
Dear Siegard,
I want to transfer some episodes from downcast to my computer. Actually, in
downcaste there is export media and that is shown as transfering from Iphone to
PC using Itunes file sharing. So if you could be a little more elaborate as to
how I can get files from Iphone to PC that would help. Also, when I transfer
files in Windows 7 where do they go on PC? Thank you.
With best wishes,

Subject: RE: Itunes file sharing

Hello Ketan,

If you could provide a more specific example of what you want to transfer and
whether you want to transfer a file from iTunes/your computer to the iPhone or
vice versa it would help.

In general terms, once you connect your iPhone to iTunes and go to your Device,
you will find a File Transfer section under the Apps Tab.

You can use F6 to get there after checking the Apps radio button, your screen
reader should say the following:

The apps listed below can transfer documents between your iPhone and this
computer

Once you hear this, tab 3 more time and you are in a tree view which shows any
apps you have and which are compatible with iTunes file transfer.

For example, my first app in that list is Downcast.

If I arrow to it in the tree view and then tab once, I hear “Applevis
Podcast”., this is a Podcast I subscribe to.

I can now tab and the first tab after the list box puts me on an “Add” button.
This you would use if you wanted to transfer a file from your computer to
Downcast.

Tab one more time and you are on a “Save As” button. This is for saving
files/documents from your iPhone to the computer.

If I press the spacebar on Save As a standard Windows Save As dialogue opens.
If I browse, for example, to my Downloads folder and press “Select Folder” and
then check I now have an Applevis folder in my Downloads folder which contains
Podcast episodes.

Interestingly enough I found it contained an episode which I had downloaded and
listened to some months back, but it did not contain the episode about
Blindsquare which I currently have downloaded as my only episode in Applevis. I
also have the latest episode of FS Cast downloaded, but under Downcast I only
saw Applevis and not FS Cast. It appears like there should be a way to refresh
this list, but I’m not sure how right now since I actually haven’t often used
the File Transfer feature. It’s fairly straight forward, and I’m sure I am
missing something obvious with respect to the refreshing issue.

Hopefully this gives you something to start with, just post more information
about what exactly you want to do if you need more help and I’m sure somebody
will be able to help.

Regards,

Sieghard

Fwd: Dropbox file sharing

2012-08-11 Thread Garth Humphreys
Yep, but what's the easiest way to round trip a document you've edited in
Pages. I mean you should be able to open it from the dropbox app but getting
the edited version synced back to dropbox is a bit more problematic from
memory. I haven't played with Pages for a while though. The round tripping is
why I was thinking of apps which actually sync with dropbox.

Sorry, just reread my prior post - it was poorly worded, I didn't mean you
couldn't edit them at all, I was meaning in the dropbox context. Pages allows
a few ways of sharing documents but I don't remember any way of being able to
use the 'open in' action menu to put an edited copy back into dropbox. iCloud
 is a different story though.

Re: Dropbox file sharing

2012-08-10 Thread Scott Davert
Hi.
Download the Dropbox app on your iPad, which you can find by searching
for Dropbox in the App Store. Then, log in to your account once
installed and you'll have all your files on your iPad that you do on
your Windows machine in Dropbox.
If you only want some stuff in both places, consider creating a
separate Dropbox account for your iPad. you'll need to use a different
email though. Then, just share a folder specifically between your PC
and Dropbox. However, remember that the actual files in your Dropbox
folders do not take up space on your iPad.

HTH,
Scott

Re: Dropbox file sharing

2012-08-10 Thread Garth Humphreys
You'll need another app for editing. Also I don't know of any apps which will
allow accessible editing of Word docs. If you want to edit on the IOS device,
you can use rich text with some apps but you are best to go for plain text an
than there are hundreds of apps which will sync with dropbox and allow
accessible editing. My personal fav is Elements but there are a few free ones
as well.
