Well, I have finally managed to do it! Thanks! I think my problem was that I

No, you don't have to use the rotor for this one. That's the thing.
Sometimes I have been able to capture text that is not actually showing
in a textbox, so I think it's useful!

Just listen to a little text and then to the three finger quadruple tap.
Go to an editbox, perhaps in Notepad, and paste in the normal way. See
what you get!

In addition, you can try it in the HELP section for trying out gestures
if you wish instead of producing the text in the edit box.

you have to enter a code. Once you hear just the code you want, you
can then do this gesture and copy it into pasteboard (which I assume

Perhaps I am wrong and sighted people can do this, but perhaps not so

The reason they require roter gestures for us is so that we can tell
VoiceOver to pass our gestures through to the object and not interpret
our gestures to read the next word or character. A sighted person would
touch the pop up and then slide their finger to select a setting or
flick up or down to cycle through different options.

Re: Mega discovery in 9.3

2016-03-24 Thread Richard Turner

For those who are having trouble with the four finger swipe, try this.
Make sure you have at least two apps open and are in one of those apps.
Lay the phone on the table and turn it in landscape orientation with a long
side toward you.
Place four fingers on the edge of the screen away from you and swipe toward
yourself lifting your fingers off the display after just a short distance.
If you don't switch apps, try it again in the opposite direction by either
turning the phone around, or starting on the edge of the screen nearest you.
HTH,
Richard

Joney,

What do you remember about it? Was it a four finger swipe and did Tim Cook say
that it only works on the 6S or 6S plus? I know a few sighted users of the
iPhone and one of their biggest gripes is not having a way to move from one
open app to another very quickly other than the back button which only shows up
under certain circumstances. It seems to me that more people would be talking
about this new iOS feature if they could actually quickly swipe back and forth
between open apps. Confusing :)

Hi,

Sighted users simply slide their finger from left to right to change the volume.
As far as the 4-finger swipe gesture, the AppleVis podcast is incorrect. I live
with a sighted roommate, and we both can confirm that gesture is only available
when VoiceOver is running.

So, here's something I've wanted to ask for quite a while. What do non-rotor
users do to, say, adjust the value on a volume button (or sometimes a pop-up
button), that requires rotor gestures from us?

No, I'm pretty sure the roter is a VoiceOver feature, and I believe it's
only documented in the VoiceOver section of the manual. I don't think,
when you perform the roter jesture, that anything on the screen changes,
so there'd be nothing for a non-VoiceOver user to interact with at that
point.

In case anyone hasn't discovered this, it's useful, for example, when
you have to enter a code. Once you hear just the code you want, you
can then do this gesture and copy it into pasteboard (which I assume
is the same as the clipboard) and paste it where required.

That method of copying text has been around for a while. I don't remember off

The text selection on the rotor is new in the iOS 9 cycle, which when available

Re: Mega discovery in 9.3

2016-03-23 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi. I can confirm that this is not available to people who do not use
voiceover. So yes, people who use voiceover have access to a feature that
mainstream users don't.

Re: Mega discovery in 9.3

2016-03-23 Thread Christina C.
I haven’t updated yet to try the four finger swipe but I heard this is also
available to non voice Over users. I can’t find that anywhere on the internet.
I know lots of people who would love this feature on their iPhone who does not
use voice over. I’d be surprised to know that voice Over users have a new cool
feature that the mainstream does not have.

Mega discovery in 9.3

2016-03-23 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear listers

You’re probably all going to come back and tell me this has been in iOS forever
but I’ve just discovered that, on my 6S at least, swiping left or right with
four fingers switches between running apps. I know this has worked on an iPad
Air 2 for a while but wasn’t aware it was available on the phone. Enjoy!

Thanks, Robin
