2013-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Rick and List,

OK, this was easy, I went to the archives and since I knew I had provided
links for these cases before I just typed www.monoprice.com/ into the
search field.

I only had 11 hits, the second one had the information which I provided a
while back as part of a discussion about Blindsquare and how to best carry
the phone or what cases work well.

Here are the links for that case for the iPhone 4S and 5:

iPhone 4S: $5.31 if you buy 1, $5.09 if you buy 2-9 of them.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108cp_id=10831cs_id=108
3111p_id=8845seq=1format=2

iPhone 5: $5.75 if you buy 1, $5.53 if you buy 2-9 of them.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108cp_id=10831cs_id=108
3111p_id=10241seq=1format=2

Should the links for some reason not work, here is how to find this:

Go to www.monoprice.com
Click on the Accessories link
Click on the iPhone and iPod Accessories link
Click on the iPhone Cases link

This will bring up a table with a listing of all 110+ cases they offer and
you will find the case easiest if you either bring up a list of the links
and type Slide or search for Slide using the Jaws Find command,
Control+Shift+F, or whatever equivalent the screenreader you might use has.

The full name of the case is this:

iPhone 4S: Slide Out Case with Belt Clip/ Stand for iPhone 4/ 4S
iPhone 5: Slide Out Case with Belt Clip/ Stand for iPhone 5/5S

Good luck,

Yes pretty much. The sides are rubberized along with the back. Even with
out the clip, stick this in your pocket and you could stand on your head
and it won't come out. I got use to it and my iPhone 4 hasn't been out of

Like I said, the only reason I got a case was because it came highly
recommended on this list, it was very minimalistic, I basically got it
for free when I won an Amazon gift certificate and it made my phone more
grippable. I could rest it on my thigh or the arm of the chair and not
worry about it sliding off. I didn't get it for protection.

I used to get cases for my phones, but I realized when I was thinking
about a jell case for my E71X that I was turning a very beautiful phone
into a rubber ball. Even though I'm not enamored with the iPhone, I paid
a lot of money for it, so I want it to look good, and I don't want to
bulk it up. I'm careful with it, without being obsessive, and given how
strong and well made the iPhone is, I'm not worried about breaking or
scratching it.

I don't have a problem with people protecting their investments, but for
me, I bought the iPhone so it would look good for me and not it's next
owner.

Alan, I have an iPhone 5 and mine is always in my pocket too. Based
on a recommendation I got from this list, I use the Tech21 case that
completely covers the back of the phone and the sides with holes for
the plugs and the lightning connector. I also have a film protector
on the screen since the Tech21 does not cover it at all. The case
does have a special material around the edges that remains flexible
until it comes in contact with something at which time it hardens. I
really like this case because it offers good protection without
adding any bulk to the phone.

I have one of these cases and I'm very please with it. All the holes are
exposed all the buttons are available for use. The phone is snug inside the
case and I have no concerns about a coming out. Originally, I had used a belt
clip but decided not to go that route this time, because a couple of times a
clock on this safety belt in our car and it fell out of the car. Fortunately,
it wasn't damaged, but it scared me enough not to get a belt clip this time.

Re: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-25 Thread Rick Alfaro

Alan,

If the phone sits in your pocket most of the time I would strongly
suggest a hard case and a good screen protector. There are the softer
rubber like silicone cases as well but I hate those for use in a pocket
because of what they are made of, they stick to the inside of your
pocket and pulling the phone out becomes a real PIA.

The sort of hard cases I personally like are the so called TPU cases.
They provide decent protection but slip in and out of your pocket very
easily. I also like the belt cases as I frequently rather have my phone
on my belt for easy access.

Regarding the Apple leather case, don't misunderstand me, it is not a
soft case. It's actually a hard case covered with what they call
leather. It feels very nice in the hand but if that's leather it sure
doesn't smell like it. It smells like Pu leather, man made leather. It's
a nice case but just not worth anywhere near $40. If you do a search on
Amazon for iPhone 5s case, you will come up with hundreds that you and
your wife can browse through. As long as you purchase one that is either
sold by Amazon or Fulfilled by Amazon, their return policy is second to
none. HTH

Best Regards,

Rick alfaro

for sure, what you said about not being able to plug in the Lightning

Apple made this thing and I would expect nothing less than perfection
especially considering the price. Yes, it has a thin leather covering, but

Apple really should have made a case with belt clip or optional belt clip. I
am actually surprised reading through a bunch of these messages how many

Funny you should say that. When using my phone on my belt I used to wear
it on my right but started wearing it on my left. If you are right
handed, it sort of feels better this way because you don't have to
switch the phone from your right hand to the left which is the case if
you are carrying it on your right.

What I would like to find is a belt case that is vertical instead of
horizontal and is large enough to hold my 5s while it's in a battery
case. I'm sure there is one somewhere, just have to find it.

Alan, I have an iPhone 5 and mine is always in my pocket too. Based on a
recommendation I got from this list, I use the Tech21 case that completely
covers the back of the phone and the sides with holes for the plugs and the
lightning connector. I also have a film protector on the screen since the
Tech21 does not cover it at all. The case does have a special material around
the edges that remains flexible until it comes in contact with something at
which time it hardens. I really like this case because it offers good
protection without adding any bulk to the phone.

That's the case I have on my iPhone 4. I did drop it once on the carpet and it
bounced a few times too. I've noticed one thing though. The iPhone 4 is

Less, I went the hard case with the belt clip. I put my iPhone 4 in the
case when I got it and I don't think it's been out of the case more then twice.
The case came with the belt clip too and it was more of a bother then it was
worth. I never found a place on my belt where it felt comfortable. My phone
is always in my pants pocket so the hard case was a waste of money so that's
why I wondered about the leather case. So far, I have 1 against and now 1 in
favor! Anybody else? LOL!

exposed all the buttons are available for use. The phone is snug inside the
case and I have no concerns about a coming out. Originally, I had used a belt
clip but decided not to go that route this time, because a couple of times a

RE: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-25 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi Rick,

This started as somewhat of a joke but I wear mine on the left exactly for
that reason. I'm right handed also.

As for the vertical case, I had one for my iPhone 4 so they are around.
Mine was white but there are various colours. I got mine from Amazon. The
problem with the vertical case is that, when you bend down, the bottom of
the case presses against your thigh and the case pops off your belt.

Funny you should say that. When using my phone on my belt I used to wear it
on my right but started wearing it on my left. If you are right handed, it
sort of feels better this way because you don't have to switch the phone
from your right hand to the left which is the case if you are carrying it on
your right.

What I would like to find is a belt case that is vertical instead of
horizontal and is large enough to hold my 5s while it's in a battery case.
I'm sure there is one somewhere, just have to find it.

possible that it was in a box I threw out. Anyhow, I would have sent
it back for sure, what you said about not being able to plug in the
Lightning connector when the phone is in the case is incomprehensible
to me. I mean Apple made this thing and I would expect nothing less
than perfection especially considering the price. Yes, it has a thin
leather covering, but it certainly does not protect the phone any
better than a 3 Dollar TPU case. I actually bought one of these from
monoprice.com and it also fits perfectly, it's also black and the only
thing is that it may not look quite as nice. However, I can plug the
Lightning connector in when the phone is in that case.
Apple really should have made a case with belt clip or optional belt
clip. I am actually surprised reading through a bunch of these

OK for walking around, but I find it rather uncomfortable to sit when

Try the Otterbox Defender. It comes with a belt clip. You can rotate the
phone 360 degrees. So you can have the iPhone so that the home button is
pointing down at a 45 degree angle. When you take the phone off the clip,
it will fit perfectly in your left hand.

2013-10-25 Thread Rick Alfaro
Personally, I would never keep my iPhone out of a case of some kind. All
it takes is one drop with the phone landing in a bad way and you have a
nasty scratch or worse, a broken phone. Given how much it costs to
replace an iPhone without a subsidy, I'm not willing to take the chance.
Sure you can have apple care for $99 that would replace it for $79
deductible or some other protection plan like Square Trade which I
definitely plan to do before the 30 days run out but I still prefer
having it safe in a case. If you want the looks of the phone to show
through get yourself a clear case. I have one of those as well for my 5s
that cost me about $13 and it lets the beauty of the iPhone show through
while still protecting it with a hard cover on the back and clear
bumpers around the sides.

Having said that, I know there are folks that prefer not to use a case
so in the end it's really personal preference.

If you are interested in taking a look at the clear case I referred to,
let me know and I'll send you the link to it on Amazon.

Hi Anna,

As I said before, I misplaced my 5S black leather case and it's just
possible that it was in a box I threw out.
Apple really should have made a case with belt clip or optional belt
clip. I am actually surprised reading through a bunch of these
messages how many people put their phone in their pocket. I guess it's
OK for walking around, but I find it rather uncomfortable to sit when
the iPhone is in my jeans pocket and I just totally prefer to have it
on my right hip which is why I really like belt clip cases.

Hi,

I have one of these cases, and it's pretty good. It lines up well with
the connectors and buttons, it doesn't take up a lot of extra room,
and I think it will provide basic protection, though it doesn't cover
the screen at all, so it certainly won't protect the phone from water,
scratches to the screen, etc. It fits snugly. My only annoyance with
it is that I can't connect a lightning to 30-pin adapter to the phone
while it's in the case. If you don't need to do that and you want
basic protection in a form that isn't bulky, however, it should work fine.

Kelly,

If your husband will be using a regular Apple Lightning cable to charge
the phone, he won't have an issue. It plugs in just fine. I don't have a
dock with a lightning connector on it so can't comment on that at all
but the cable works just fine.

ok, but I am glad I didn't go with it.
He got a screen protector to cover the front and it is a good thing
since it is exposed. I wonder if my husband has realized yet that he has

Yes pretty much. The sides are rubberized along with the back. Even with
out the clip, stick this in your pocket and you could stand on your head and
it won't come out. I got use to it and my iPhone 4 hasn't been out of that
case more then once or twice in two and a half years. I was mostly worried
about dropping it like everybody else is when they think about paying 4
hundred bucks for a phone, don't want anything to happen to it especially
when your going to pay for it for the next 2 years.

Funny you should say that. When using my phone on my belt I used to
wear it on my right but started wearing it on my left. If you are
right handed, it sort of feels better this way because you don't have
to switch the phone from your right hand to the left which is the case
if you are carrying it on your right.

The case does have a special material
around the edges that remains flexible until it comes in contact with
something at which time it hardens. I really like this case because it
offers good protection without adding any bulk to the phone.

I don't get your logic, if you are right handed doesn't that mean you hold
your phone in your right hand and hold it to your right ear? Why would you
have it on the left side? Anyhow, my dog is on my left so my iPhone is on my
right side, if it rings and I don't have a headset plugged in I just pull
the inside case which snaps on the iPhone out of the belt clip portion of
the case with my right hand and all is good.

The case I am talking about and which I like best so far is a $5.75 USD case
from www.monoprice.com. I don't have time to go online now and find the link
or look for it in the archives, but I have posted it before and I think if
you searched the archives for Monoprice or Monoprice.com you should find
it. It was a few months ago. If not let me know and I find it and post it
again tonight.
The only thing I wish they improved on this case is the tension on the belt
clip, the spring could be a bit stronger. ?Apart from that for $6 it's my
favorite case, it swivels, nothing is in the way of the charging port and I
like the way the part that snaps onto your phone which protects the entire
back and the 2 long sides slides into the part you have on your beltand how
it uses friction to stay put. This also allows me to slide it in upside down
so the home button is up which actually makes the phone easier to use as it
is on your belt and I can even slide it in with the back of the phone facing
out if I was somewhere where I might not want people to know I have an

Hi Sieghard,
I used to carry my 3GS in a Defender and used the belt clip quite a bit. As I
remember I started out with it on my right, dominant, side, but soon switched
it to my left too, though I couldn't remember why. Your question got me to

lightning connector. I also have a film protector on the screen since the
Tech21 does not cover it at all. The case does have a special material around
the edges that remains flexible until it comes in contact with something at
which time it hardens. I really like this case because it offers good
protection without adding any bulk to the phone.

Yes, the iPhone 4 is heavier than the iPhone 5s, it is because the iPhone 4
both covers are made in glass, so to take a surface made in glass, and hard,
should be a wider surface of glass. In the iPhone 5s, the back cover is made
in metal, and it is harder than glass, then this metal surface could be
thinner. Of course that a peace of glass, with the resistance of a surface of
metal, should be so wide, and it will be heavier. I think that it is the reason
why Apple used a metal surface in the iPhone 5 and 5s, to place more things
inside the phone, and make it thinner.

LOL!

Hi Rick and Ron,

I don't get your logic, if you are right handed doesn't that mean you hold
your phone in your right hand and hold it to your right ear? Why would you
have it on the left side? Anyhow, my dog is on my left so my iPhone is on
my

right side, if it rings and I don't have a headset plugged in I just pull
the inside case which snaps on the iPhone out of the belt clip portion of
the case with my right hand and all is good.

The case I am talking about and which I like best so far is a $5.75 USD
case
from www.monoprice.com. I don't have time to go online now and find the
link

or look for it in the archives, but I have posted it before and I think if
you searched the archives for Monoprice or Monoprice.com you should
find

it. It was a few months ago. If not let me know and I find it and post it
again tonight.
The only thing I wish they improved on this case is the tension on the
belt

clip, the spring could be a bit stronger. ?Apart from that for $6 it's my
favorite case, it swivels, nothing is in the way of the charging port and
I

like the way the part that snaps onto your phone which protects the entire
back and the 2 long sides slides into the part you have on your beltand
how
it uses friction to stay put. This also allows me to slide it in upside
down
so the home button is up which actually makes the phone easier to use as
it
is on your belt and I can even slide it in with the back of the phone
facing

out if I was somewhere where I might not want people to know I have an
iPhone for security reasons.

Sieghard

When using my phone on my belt I used to wear
it

on my right but started wearing it on my left. If you are right handed, it
sort of feels better this way because you don't have to switch the phone
from your right hand to the left which is the case if you are carrying it
on

your right.

What I would like to find is a belt case that is vertical instead of
horizontal and is large enough to hold my 5s while it's in a battery case.
I'm sure there is one somewhere, just have to find it.

I don't have a problem with people protecting their investments, but for
me, I bought the iPhone so it would look good for me and not it's next
owner.

Probably not, as I said, it's OK, I am sure it will fit great, but it smells
funny and in my book looks cheap and you can probably buy a $3 TPU case
which would do just as good a job protecting the phone, that's like one
tenth the cost of Apple's leather case and I can guaranty that the Apple

Re: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-24 Thread Pablo Morales
Well, I have a concern about this topic. I am herding some opinions about
iPhone 5s cases, but really I can't get to any decision without a clear
description of each case.
For example, I am aware about the cost of the lifeprove case, and it is pretty
expensive, even though I know also that they don't have a case for the iPhone
5s yet, and I understand that this case is so big also but not like the dropbox
cases, , and big cases is something that I do not like so much. The other case,
that protect the iPhone from every where is the dropbox. I don't know if I am
spelling it well. But it is so big also. lifeprove and dropbox protect the
iPhone pretty well, and protect the screen also. But they are so big, and
lifeprove for iPhone 5s is not available yet either. What other choices are
available?
Thanks
Pablo

  Hi Alan,

I did buy one when I ordered my iPhone and it of course showed up after a
week whereas my iPhone took almost 4 weeks. In my book it's a disappointment
and I certainly don't think it's worth $40. I would love to send it back to
Apple, but I decided to keep it in a very safe place until my iPhone arrived
because I did want to see how it looks when the iPhone is in it, but I put it
in such a safe place that I can't find it any more. *smile*. Another $45 wasted
(that is what it costs in Canadian currency). Would I recommend it? Probably
not, as I said, it's OK, I am sure it will fit great, but it smells funny and
in my book looks cheap and you can probably buy a $3 TPU case which would do
just as good a job protecting the phone, that's like one tenth the cost of
Apple's leather case and I can guaranty that the Apple case is not ten times as
nice. Oh well, I guess they have to make money somewhere considering how poor
they are. In my opinion this is just as much of a rip-off as a Lifeproof case
with Belt clip for $110 or $120 or whatever they cost.

  Sieghard

2013-10-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

I have one of these cases, and it's pretty good. It lines up well with the
connectors and buttons, it doesn't take up a lot of extra room, and I think it
will provide basic protection, though it doesn't cover the screen at all, so it
certainly won't protect the phone from water, scratches to the screen, etc. It
fits snugly. My only annoyance with it is that I can't connect a lightning to
30-pin adapter to the phone while it's in the case. If you don't need to do
that and you want basic protection in a form that isn't bulky, however, it
should work fine.

Best,
Anna

Re: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-24 Thread Rick Alfaro

Alan,

Yes, I have a black one. It fits the 5s like a glove and according to my
wife it has a real handsome look to it. Personally, I don't feel it's
worth $40 however. I have this case because I got it for free. It was
sent to me by Apple in apology for a mistake they made on my original
invoice and ship date. I do like the case a lot but I'm certain you
could do a lot better on Amazon. JMO. It's a nice case but way over priced.

Less, I went the hard case with the belt clip. I put my iPhone 4 in the case
when I got it and I don't think it's been out of the case more then twice. The
case came with the belt clip too and it was more of a bother then it was worth.
I never found a place on my belt where it felt comfortable. My phone is
always in my pants pocket so the hard case was a waste of money so that's why I
wondered about the leather case. So far, I have 1 against and now 1 in favor!
Anybody else? LOL!

As my wife and I were just talking about, do you need a hard shell case when
your phone is always in your pocket. So what do all of you use. A hard case,
soft case, no case?

Alan, that's what I did. I have a good screen protector on the phone and a

 Hi,

I have one of these cases, and it's pretty good. It lines up well with the
connectors and buttons, it doesn't take up a lot of extra room, and I think
it will provide basic protection, though it doesn't cover the screen at all,
so it certainly won't protect the phone from water, scratches to the screen,
etc. It fits snugly. My only annoyance with it is that I can't connect a
lightning to 30-pin adapter to the phone while it's in the case. If you don't
need to do that and you want basic protection in a form that isn't bulky,
 however, it should work fine.

 Best,

I used a Magpul Field Case with my iPhone 4 for the past year and slapped my

considering how poor they are. In my opinion this is just as much
of a rip-off as a Lifeproof case with Belt clip for $110 or $120
or whatever they cost.

Hi all,

In the Apple store app and it was also on the Apple site they have
a new leather case for the 5 and the 5s. It's suppose to fit the
5s snug and they say even all the holes line up etc. It sounds
nice and I'd like to get one but before I shell out 40 bucks I was
wondering if anybody on the list has one of these cases and if so,
what has been your experience with it?

RE: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Alan, I have an iPhone 5 and mine is always in my pocket too. Based on a
recommendation I got from this list, I use the Tech21 case that completely
covers the back of the phone and the sides with holes for the plugs and the
lightning connector. I also have a film protector on the screen since the
Tech21 does not cover it at all. The case does have a special material
around the edges that remains flexible until it comes in contact with
something at which time it hardens. I really like this case because it
offers good protection without adding any bulk to the phone.

As my wife and I were just talking about, do you need a hard shell case when
your phone is always in your pocket. So what do all of you use. A hard
case, soft case, no case?

I'm not certain which case you got, I know there are number of other cases
that Apple sells. My case has no older to it. But this is a subjective thing
and what's good for one is probably not good for another.

Hi Alan,

I did buy one when I ordered my iPhone and it of course showed up after a
week whereas my iPhone took almost 4 weeks. In my book it's a disappointment
and I certainly don't think it's worth $40. I would love to send it back to
Apple, but I decided to keep it in a very safe place until my iPhone arrived
because I did want to see how it looks when the iPhone is in it, but I put
it in such a safe place that I can't find it any more. *smile*. Another $45
wasted (that is what it costs in Canadian currency). Would I recommend it?
Probably not, as I said, it's OK, I am sure it will fit great, but it smells
funny and in my book looks cheap and you can probably buy a $3 TPU case
which would do just as good a job protecting the phone, that's like one
tenth the cost of Apple's leather case and I can guaranty that the Apple
case is not ten times as nice. Oh well, I guess they have to make money

RE: Leather iPhone 5 and 5s Case

2013-10-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Anna,

As I said before, I misplaced my 5S black leather case and it's just
possible that it was in a box I threw out. Anyhow, I would have sent it back
for sure, what you said about not being able to plug in the Lightning
connector when the phone is in the case is incomprehensible to me. I mean
Apple made this thing and I would expect nothing less than perfection
especially considering the price. Yes, it has a thin leather covering, but
it certainly does not protect the phone any better than a 3 Dollar TPU
case. I actually bought one of these from monoprice.com and it also fits
perfectly, it's also black and the only thing is that it may not look quite
as nice. However, I can plug the Lightning connector in when the phone is in
that case.
Apple really should have made a case with belt clip or optional belt clip. I
am actually surprised reading through a bunch of these messages how many
people put their phone in their pocket. I guess it's OK for walking around,
but I find it rather uncomfortable to sit when the iPhone is in my jeans
pocket and I just totally prefer to have it on my right hip which is why I
really like belt clip cases.

Sieghard

If you
don't need to do that and you want basic protection in a form that isn't
bulky, however, it should work fine.

Best,
Anna
