Re: bard mobile still giving me grief

2013-10-21 Thread Russ Kiehne

I tested this to make sure. After I downloaded a book, got the download
complete sound, double tapped on ok, turned on airplane, the book played
without any problems.
When I used Itunes to transfer a few books to my ipod, Started the bard
mobile
app, I got the download complete sound. AT this point in time you don't
need the internet to read a book.

Sorry about that. I read your message to say that you needed an INTERNET
connection when transferring a book over with iTunes. My understanding
is that you don't need an internet connection during the transfer but
you will when you go to play that book that you have transferred with
iTunes. Since this is what I thought you said, I thought it needed a
clarification to avoid confusion. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

You do need to be connected to the INTERNET when you first start playing
a book that you transferred to your iPhone using iTunes, DropBox and so
on. this is for your authorization to be checked. You don't need to be
connected to the INTERNET to listen to a book you download straight to
your iPhone through the BARD app or that you've already started
listening to.

Re: bard mobile still giving me grief

2013-10-21 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

If you download a book from BARD Mobile, it unzips the book and downloads the
book's authorization file automatically. This means you can then turn on
Airplane mode, and the book will play. If you copy a book to BARD Mobile using
iTunes file sharing, however, BARD Mobile needs to be able to go online and get
the authorization file. Once it has it, you don't need to be online. So be sure
you're online the first time you try to play a book after using iTunes file
sharing.

I hope that helps.

Best,
Anna

Sorry about that. I read your message to say that you needed an INTERNET
connection when transferring a book over with iTunes. My understanding
is that you don't need an internet connection during the transfer but
you will when you go to play that book that you have transferred with
iTunes. Since this is what I thought you said, I thought it needed a
clarification to avoid confusion. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

RE: bard mobile still giving me grief

2013-10-19 Thread Dani L Pagador
Hi.
Anna from Bard Tech Support sent me the following regarding transfer of
books via iTunes to my iPod Touch fourth gen and my inability to play them
after transfer during the shut-down.

Be sure your iPod Touch has access to the Internet the first time you try
to play a book or magazine that you transferred to the app via iTunes. BARD
Mobile needs to download an authorization file for each audio book or
magazine you listen to, so when you try to play a book for the first time,
it needs to get the file.

Also, if you haven't tried this since the shutdown, please try again, as
there were some problems with BARD during the shutdown that have been
resolved since.

I haven't gone to get any books lately, but will keep this handy. I know
that during the shut-down when I went to the BARD site and added books
through the Wish List, things transferred and played as usual; but I didn't
have that same luck then when I transferred either via iTunes or Ubidisk.

HTH,
Dani

The authorization is done automatically when you go to play the book.
You won't notice anything unless there's a problem verifying the
authorization.

Though it's handy to be able to download books over wifi, I find
 iTunes is much faster.

Re: bard mobile still giving me grief

2013-10-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
My understanding is that a separate authorization is only required if
you transfer a book to your iPhone via iTunes, DropBox or some other
method. If you're able to download a book directly to your iPhone then
there is no separate authorization step.

I transferred a couple of books to my phone via iTunes the other day
but did not have to go through any additional step to authorize the
book.

Though it's handy to be able to download books over wifi, I find
iTunes is much faster.

The authorization is done automatically when you go to play the book.
You won't notice anything unless there's a problem verifying the
authorization.
