RE: iPad Question?

2021-10-19 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Yes, I don’t think I ever use containers when navigating on my phone, but I use
them a lot for getting around the iPad. Before I got in the habit of using
them, I found the iPad navigation very cumbersome.

Containers are areas on the screen, on an iPad the left and right windows are
separate containers as is the dock and the main home screen. I am pretty sure
by default containers is in the rotor, just go to it and then flick left or
right.

Hi Pam,

I actually have the new iPad mini on order. Could you explain what containers
are and how you would navigate them. Do you swipe left and right the same as
you do with other elements? Thanks for the assist.

When in settings, the main settings list is on the left, whatever is selected
there, will show up on the right hapf of the screen.

Navigating by containers may help, but just touch on the right half of the
screen and you should find what you want.

Hi Pam,

I actually have the new iPad mini on order. Could you explain what containers
are and how you would navigate them. Do you swipe left and right the same as
you do with other elements? Thanks for the assist.

RE: iPad Question?

2021-10-18 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
I have an iPad mini. It’s not the very newest one but the one prior to that.
My dock is actually at the bottom of the screen, like my iPhone.

I do find that navigating by containers can really be helpful on the iPad.

Re: iPad Question?

2021-10-18 Thread Richard Turner
When in settings, the main settings list is on the left, whatever is selected
there, will show up on the right hapf of the screen.
Navigating by containers may help, but just touch on the right half of the
screen and you should find what you want.

According to the info that I found regarding the otterbox defender
series case for the ipad 5th gen, it says that it contains a built in

Re: What is the difference between an iPod, and an iPad question

2016-03-15 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
OOooh, well, lots of interesting bits to discuss.
The iPod is a pocket media player, the size of the phone, but no phone chip;
but does do the rest.
iPad was the first tablet, iPad Mini was and is the smaller 8inch tablet, the
Aire is a definitivename to separate the Mini from
the big one, which is the aire.
iPod is up to 6, iPad Mini is up to 4, iPad aire is up to 2, though iPad had 3
versions before it was called Aire. One generation
back is usually worthwhile if you need to save the difference of around £80-100
in the UK.

Oddly, when i asked apple over here, they were offering the Mini 2 as previous
model and not Mini 3; can't understand that.

Finally, there is now the iPad Professional, which is bigger than the Aire, in
spec at least and maybe in physical size, though
can't remember.

Subject: What is the difference between an iPod, and an iPad question

Hello there everyone,

First of all, I really hope that this does not sound like a silly question?
But I am just very curious as to what people think.

My boyfriend got an android tablet a couple of weeks ago, and I got very
excited about it. I want something to put my music and stuff on, without
having to use ITunes.

So my boyfriend just gave me the tablet. It runs kit-mat. Well in my
opinion, Android is still as much of a pain, when I first had a phone a
long time ago, running Gingerbread. I know that there are people that love
it. That is good for me, because I am just not one of them. Something
should not be so darn difficult to use.

Ok, that rant is over. LOL!

What I am wondering, is why do some people prefer an IPad over an IPod?
Don't they basically do the same things? If not, then how are they
different?

And what is the difference from an IPad, IPad Mini, and an IPad Air?

Also, what generation are we now at, with the IPod? If someone couldn't
afford the latest model, then what would be the best, older version to get?

Also, I am running Windows 7 on my laptop. Which version of ITunes is the
best to get?

Any help with any of this, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Terri

What is the difference between an iPod, and an iPad question

2016-03-14 Thread Michelle Bernstein
The IPad Air is about the size of a piece of paper. As someone who is
partially sighted, I find the large screen size helpful. I have not activated
the cellular feature as I only use my IPad at home, but if you plan to carry it
with you, then you would want to purchase this feature.

I am planning to purchase an IPod touch and would use it mainly to listen to
audiobooks and podcasts. You can listen to audiobooks and podcasts on an IPad,
but the small size of the iPod touch makes it more portable if you like to take
it with you.

I tend to use the IPad for going through my email and for searching websites
and other research.

Regards, Michelle

Re: What is the difference between an iPod, and an iPad question

2016-03-14 Thread Richard Turner

The iPod, also known as the iPod Touch, is much smaller in size and does not
have an option for using cellular data only Wi-Fi.
For someone who is totally blind, the iPod Touch does most of what the iPad
does, but with a much smaller screen, so for me, it is easier to navigate.
The iPod 6th Generation is the current one. You can get up to 128 GB of storage.
I think I paid $400 for it, or maybe $500, I'm not sure without looking that up.
Add about $99 for Apple Care.
The iPad is much larger and has longer battery life and better sound. IPads
also have the possibility of adding Cellular service which means you can use it
where there is cell service but no WiFi, and you could even therefore use it
for GPS.
Currently, the latest model of iPad is the iPad Air 2, which is thinner than
the old iPad with the better processor, camera and all that.
They cost quite a bit more than the iPod Touch.
The iPad Mini has the same features as the iPad, just in a slightly smaller
size. Their latest version is the iPad Mini 4.
There is also now the iPad Pro which is even larger than the iPad and more
expensive.
They all require iTunes.
You should be able to run the latest iTunes with Windows 7, version 12.3.2 I
think.
I hope that helps. You probably should call Apple and get more information.

What is the difference between an iPod, and an iPad question

2016-03-14 Thread Terri Stimmel

Terri

Re: An Ipad question

2013-05-12 Thread Esther
Hi Wendy,

Containers are an iPad specific rotor control that let you navigate
through sections of the screen that display content that would be on
separate screens on the iPhone. For example, try visiting the Mail
app or the Settings app in landscape mode, and setting your rotor to
containers. If you explore the screen by touch, you'll note, for
example, that the left third of the screen contains the information on
your mailboxes, and the right two thirds of the screen contains the
mail message. Similarly, in the Settings app viewed in landscape mode
on an iPad, the left third of the screen contains the list of settings
(Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data, etc.) and the
right two thirds of the screen has the detailed information for your
selected settings category. Navigating by containers provides you with
an easy way to move between these two parts of the screen. Try going
into the Mail app and setting your rotor to containers. If you
start with your focus on the Mailboxes heading and flick down,
you'll first be moved to All Inboxes (the first in your list of
mailboxes), then the Updated time stamp that is the last element of
that container, then the marked message button, which is the first
of the buttons for an individual email message, then From for the
area of the message header, then the body of the message. Navigating
by containers lets you quickly move between these sections, and then
you can flick to the item you want -- a particular mailbox, another
field in the mail header, the reply button, etc. This container
structure works in a similar fashion in other applications.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

As the iPad battery is bigger, and as such lasts longer, the warning messages

RE: very basic iPad question

2013-01-30 Thread Joe
I wouldn't get an iPad Mini, or iPad of any kind, if you're happy with your
iPhone. Yeah, it's everyone's individual choice yadda yadda, but honestly,
I've got an iPad and an iPhone and the iPad just feels bulky and
unnecessary. Pair up your iPhone with a Bluetooth, and you're going to get
the exact same experience. Longer battery life? Not enough to make a
difference and not something one of the portable battery pakcs can't solve.
More screen real estate to get a better sense of web layout? This could make
a difference if you're a web developer and need to verify the position of
text, but even then the difference is insignificant. I've got an iPad 4 that
I am not motivated enough to try to keep selling, but from my own
perspective, for a blind person the iPad is not the best investment of
money. Save up a little more and get a Mac Air.

speaker size and quality can matter, can listen to podcasts
 better in that
respect, but it is the same os, so it does all the same except
 make real
phone calls or natively make or send sms messages. You can pair
 any size
keyboard to the phone for quicker typing maybe, and the screen
 layout is
simpler, though some like the more sophisticated gui layout on
 the iPads.

Don't know if this helps, I have both!

Re: very basic iPad question

2013-01-28 Thread RobH!
The phone is a pocket sized out and about thing where retaining battery life
is a consideration. The Mini is an armchair thing for home, but not at the
desk; and you're within readch of power when you need to, though it is a
very good battery life. On a desk and in landsccape mode, you can type on it
almost normally. But with a bt keyboard, you can do that to the phone. But
it's the home and away bit mainly.

That, and just like these things.

RE: very basic iPad question

2013-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kim,

You may want to check the archive for iPad Mini as there have been a few
discussions since the iPad Mini was released in late October.

Anyhow, basically the iPad Mini can't really do a lot the iPhone can't do
except that there are some iPad specific apps which you may or may not find
useful. Unfortunately I can't think of any example right now, maybe somebody
else will give one.

Apart from that the larger screen is what most people find attractive and it
seems from posts I have read on here that many people find a full-sized iPad
almost too large as special orientation is more difficult, the iPad Mini
seems to be just right to give more space but not so much to make it hard to
find stuff.

The iPad Mini also has stereo speakers and they would be a bit louder and
probably of better quality than those on an iPhone simply due to their size.

I think an iPad Mini is definitely on my list as well, but for the time
being I'm sitting on the fence to see if there will be a new one in March.
According to Rob from the Today in iOS podcast he doesn't think there will
be any new major product announcements until June and even though the iPad
Retina as the full-size iPad it is now called was updated twice last year in
March and October, he predicts that it maybe the first iDevice to be updated
once again. Having a retina display is certainly of no importance for a
blind person unless you have sighted people in the family who would also use
it, but I was sort of waiting to see if the next iPad Mini will have a
retina display. Once again, Rob from Today in iOS doesn't think the iPad
Mini will get a retina display until 2014, but while he is totally in the
loop as far as one can be with Apple, I somehow would be surprised if it
took this long considering that everything now including the new MacBook Pro
has a retina screen. In any case, It's already February so I'll wait until
the end of March and by then I probably will say I may as well wait until
June and I know that if I wait until June and still nothing has been
announced I will most definitely wait until September or October at that
point.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: very basic iPad question

2013-01-27 Thread Marcy Weinberg
I very much enjoyed doing email on the iPad versus the iPhone. Also, in many
apps there are listings on the left, and specifics on the right. For example,
your list of messages are on the left, and when you choose a person who sent
you a message, the conversation is on the right. There is no need to go into
another screen.

I think the size of the many as perfect, not too big, And not too small.

Re: very basic iPad question

2013-01-27 Thread Maria And Joe
HI. I agree with you about the size of the mini. I too enjoy email more.
I've found if I use the roter to go to containers, I can flick up to get to
the reply, delete buttons etc and flick down a couple of times to get to the
Message. When I used to check email using a blue tooth keyboard on the iphone,
there seemed to be a lot of arrowing around especially if the iphone was out of
reach and I couldn't touch specific areas of the screen in order to jump
quickly between elements. this doesn't happen so much with the container
option on the roter with the mini.

Some apps might automatically go into portrait no matter which way you have it

Follow up to iPad question

2013-01-06 Thread Shane Clark
Hi All,
First of all, thanks to all of you that have helped me out with finding the
email buttons that I've asked about. So is the reply, compose, and other
buttons found only when in an email message, or can it be found when just
having the mail app opened?
Also, when reading through a list of emails, I've noticed Vo says for the first
email selected, but it does't dio that on the iPhone. Why,
Thanks Shane.

RE: One more thing to follow up to iPad question

2013-01-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Shane,

I assume you have an iPad or are you asking because you are thinking of
getting one? The question about how to hold it is one of those where you ask
10 people and you get 12 answers. Some people prefer to lock it in landscape
and use it that way as this will give you a larger keyboard and others
prefer portrait. Some hold it in one hand sort of lying across their forearm
and type with the other hand and others prefer to put it on their knees and
type with both hands. I think this is really one of the things you have to
try and decide for yourself.

Sieghard

Re: iPad question

2012-12-17 Thread Rob Harris
I start at the top and flick right, to the bottom; or start at the bottom
and flick left back to the top and the mailboxes button to backup a level.
No Compose button.

But yes, once you get rid of the sidebar as it calls it, and you get mail
from anywhere and everywhere; then sure, the buttons to do things are
there. In an empty folder, doing this takes me back to the last folder I
had messages in; this is not where I want to start messages from
necessairly. If this is the only way it works, the only way it seems to
work here; then one, or I, shall just have to make a note to choose correct
From: addi every time.

Thanks, RobH.

Nope.

I deleted my inbox and tried it out. Did you try using the item chooser to
confirm that the compose button is indeed on the screen? .

Ok, it works; and since this could be any mailbox, it will be from that
mailbox, not one of your choice. Ah yes, you can use a selector to change
that?... Ok; I still find the lack of a compose button where and when you
want it, the greatest puzzle.

But thanks anyway.

When working with a person on the Ipad this week, in the alarm dialog--even
though VO said to swipe up and down to change time on the hours and
minutes--when you flicked up or down it would go to some other place on the

This is where siri comes into her own! I've never heard it as anything other

But it is so quick, easy and accurate that way, great in the kitchen when

microwave on your instant dinner. I told her to set timer for 2 minutes 20
seconds; and she got on with it to the second.

Re: Alarm on iPad question

2012-12-16 Thread David Chittenden
Yes, go to settings, general, Voice-Over, practice area, and practice the
vertical single-finger vertical flick until VO registers the vertical flick
consistently 100% of the time. Any time it is a command not being translated by
VO properly, it means the command isn't being delivered properly. It is like
pressing control x to copy on a windows keyboard. The wrong gesture, no matter
how close to the right gesture, will give wrong results. This is just like
pressing the wrong key which is next to the right key on a keyboard.

The flicks, swipes, taps, and twists of gestures in iOS are sound and stable.

It is on my iPad mini. The compose button is in the upper right corner.
Actually, its right underneath the battery percentage in the status bar.
You can also get to it via a bt keyboard. The button right before compose
is reply. I just checked and, I could even find the compose button by
 bringing up the item chooser.

The first gen doesn't have cameras at all, although an SD card
reader (called camera kit) exists for uploading photos to iPad.
Second and third gen ones do have camera. The latest iOS version
for first gen is 5.1.1, while the rest can be updated to 6 when
it comes out.

 Hi,
The first gen doesn't have cameras at all, although an SD card reader
(called camera kit) exists for uploading photos to iPad.
Second and third gen ones do have camera. The latest iOS version for
first gen is 5.1.1, while the rest can be updated to 6 when it comes
 out.
 Cheers,
 Joseph

Re: first gen ipad question

2012-06-20 Thread Traci
Hello,

I don't believe the 1st gen iPad supports any camera use. Except, there is a
camera dock, but I think this is for uploading photos into the iPad.

My favorite accessory for the iPad is the Zaggmate bluetooth keyboard. When
not in use the keyboard protects the iPads screen. When you are using it, the
iPad rests on top the keyboard, as if it was a laptop screen. Lol, when people
look over, they think you have a groovy laptop. :)

Ok, I believe I have the correct URL for the case/keyboard. If you are
interested in this product, make sure it has the bluetooth keyboard, because
they sell a model that is only a protective cover.

Good luck,
Traci
