OK Bill,
That narrows it down a bit. We now know:
 1. Your modem is connected to the NBN and its wireless network
 is
working OK - I presume some (if not all) of the devices you
mentioned as connected are connected by wifi (iPhones don't
 do
ethernet!)
 2. The physical wifi on your Mac mini works OK because you used
 it to
connect to your phone hotspot.
So the problem is just getting the Mac mini to connect to the
 modem
wifi network.
I presume that, as suggested, you have already tried just
 switching OFF
wifi on the Mac mini and then switching it ON again. I also
 presume the
Mac mini is in reasonable wifi proximity to the modem.
If this has not worked, it maybe that the wifi details have
 changed
since you last used the mac mini – so we need to check all this.
  * First off you need to make a note of the current wifi network
 name
– check this by going to your iMac or Macbook air and looking
 at
the network preference pane to see what the “Network Name” is
 and
make a note of it. Also make a note of your wifi password.
  * It is worth noting that many modern modems have two separate
 wifi
networks – one running at 5GHz and one running at 2.4GHz – if
 you
have not changed the default names they will be very similar
 but
slightly different – for example my names are:
 InternodeF7535B
and InternodeF7535B-5G – unless you have a definire need to
 use
different networks for certain devices, I would suggest it is
 best
to have all devices connected to the same network.
  * Now go to your Mac mini and open the network pane in system
preferences – is the network name showing the same name – if
 not,
open the drop down list to show other networks available and,
assuming your correct network is showing select this.
If this has solved it -great. If not, it maybe best to remove the
network from the computers “remembered networks” In the network
preferences pane:
 1. Uncheck the “Automatically join this network” box
 2. Turn the wifi OFF
 3. Click the “Advanced” button and make sure the “Wifi” tab is
selected
 4. You will see a list of “Preferred Networks” – depending on
 how many
networks you have used in the past, there maybe a few names
 here.
Delete any older networks and delete the current network you
 are
having problems with.
 5. Click “OK”
 6. You are now back to the main network preferences pane. Turn
 wifi
back on.
 7. “Network Name” should now show “No network selected” – open
 the
drop down list and select your correct network. If/when
 prompted
enter your wifi password.
 8. If all is now working you can now check the “Automatically
 join
this network” box
If you are still having problems, report back with details of
 what went
wrong & when.

Cheers

using your phone hotspot is not a long term solution unless you
 have a
huge data allowance on your mobile plan - so you need to get
 connected
to the NBN via that Telstra modem!
As I mentioned before, this is really a two part problem:
 1. Making sure that the Telstra modem is correctly accessing the
internet.
 2. Connecting your Mac mini to the modem.
  * Your reply indicates that point 2) is definitely a problem
 (your
wifi symbol is greyed out).
  * This maybe the only problem, but you have not indicated if
 you have
confirmed that 1) is not also a problem – have you got any
 other
device connected to the internet (and working) via this
 modem?
There are various approaches you could take to narrow down and
 address
the problem, but one way is just to try and reset everything and
 see
how you go – so you might take this approach:
 1. Switch off your Telstra modem.
 2. Turn off wifi on your Mac mini
 3. Restart you Mac mini
 4. Turn your Telstra modem back on
 5. Go have a cup of tea and allow plenty off time for your modem
 to
reboot/reset/connect to the NBN etc.
 6. Go to the Mac mini, turn wifi back on and make sure that it
 is
connecting to the right wifi network (your Telstra modem)
 7. Assuming that you have successfully connected to the correct
 wifi
network – confirm your internet connection is working OK for
 Safari
and for Mail (assuming you have mail setup on this machine)
If all the above goes OK – you should be good to go with iview!
If you are still having problems, report back with details of
 what went

Assuming that you are logged in as an administrator, go to the Date
& Time pane and the Date & Time tab - I assume the check box is
ticked to "Set date and time automatically" and a suitable time
server is selected. Eg Apple asia([2]time.asia.apple.com?
Assuming this is all OK, your problem seems to be that you do not
have the internet connection to allow the time server to
 automatically set the system time.
We need to narrow down the problem:
Is your NBN modem correctly connected to the Internet - do you have
any other devices currently connected to the Internet via this
modem? Ipad, laptop, other computer, smart TV etc. If some other
device is accessing the Internet with no problem through the same
modem then that should prove that this is not the problem.
How is your computer connected to the NBN? Go to the network pane
of system preferences and check. Are you connected via wifi or
 internet?
Select the mode that is showing as connected and it should give
 further details under Status: connected.
Assuming that you are connected via wifi (the most common setup) try
turning wifi OFF and then back ON again - I sometimes find this
helps when things are playing up.
If this has not worked and you had no other device confirming that
the NBN internet connection was OK you could try switching OFF the
NBN modem, leaving a few minutes and then switching it back ON again
 - it then might take a few minutes to boot up and go through its
connection procedures. If you do this, you may also need to repeat
 the wifi disconnect/reconnect thing.
I sometimes find that internet connections can get confused - I
don't normally have problems with my computers but my old SAMSUNG
smart TV often seems to lose connection and requires various steps
(including switching the TV OFF/ON) before it can reconnect!
Let us know how all this goes and the answers to questions above!

seem to be able to set duplex in the print setting, anybody got any advice

Re: airdrop

2020-05-30 Thread Juliet Kitson
G'Day Stephen
Prologue, yes it was bit confusing after reading I was confused.
Lets start again
Tried to airdrop photos from iMac to my wife's iPhone was not received even
her iPhone show on iMac screen.
I then opened up 2 iPads my iPhone and MacBook Air, all appeared on iMac
screen did air drop all went as they should and arrived at the relevant
devices.
Next move checked settings on wife's iPhone they were same as mine both
iPhone were 5s.
So next move switch off airdrop on her iPhone waited 30 seconds and turned
back on.
Surprise it all worked , so ends saga of airdrop.
I hope you noticed I also found the comma key.

Re: Iphone

2019-12-11 Thread Juliet Kitson
Ok
I have an iPhone 5s with software 10.2
I decided to update software to version 12.---
When update had finished a message appeared on screen of iMac running
Majove,\.
The message was "Allow this computer to access your iPhone by responding on
the Phone.
No message appeared on Phone screen.
All that was on the screen was the apple logo and a white under the logo.
When noting changed after an hour I decided to shut down the phone, but no
amount of pushing the home button or the turn off button hard any effect,
Maybe somebody can give me some advice.
