Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Regarding Uploading 700 photos of a single temple to commons

2018-09-05 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear Shrini,

Greetings. I still remember your earlier contributions for WLM. They were
fantastic.

Great that you had enough time to click every statue and really I'm sync
with Subha for a barnstar.

Regarding uploading them for WLM, i see WLM more as a competition among
Wikimedians rather than seeing it as an only opportunity to upload
monumental photos.

You are always free to upload them anytime but I strongly agree with Kiran
having been jointly associated and still associated since 1st WLM in India.
700 images might burden jury. You'll know the pain only when you process
them. First round is tiring and irritating.

Jury is exciting only after round two where you get to see beautiful images.

Shrini, I leave it to you to decide. I would have preferred to upload only
those images which I feel is competitive, not only nationally but also
internationally. Rest all, I can upload anytime.

Thanks and hope this helps.

Regards,
Karthik Nadar

2018-09-03 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear WMIN EC/Rahul,

I think the community is still waiting for an answer.

My further points:

1. I appreciate Abhinav for defending the Chapter. Having been in the seat,
I would personally incline to defend too, however it really has to make
sense.

2. CIS has done it's role of helping WMIN as always. Perhaps request of
support upto this scale should be available to public even before it is
accepted. I think CIS should also have analysed that there were two members
from WMIN EC were attending Wikimania.

Would not like to deviate more. In complete sync with Asaf. WMIN is
answerable to the community and to its members. No doubt here and it's been
just too long, way too long.

Dear WMIN, the only way to gain community confidence is to engage with
them. Really surprised with activities like Wiki Loves Monuments which was
always a Chapter supported activity is not supported by Chapter this year
or correct me if I'm wrong.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Winners - Wiki Loves Monuments India - 2016

2016-11-06 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear all,

Greetings from Wiki Loves Monuments India team.

We are glad to announce winners for the 2016 edition. Please find the
details here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016_in_India/Winners
[Winners haven’t been informed so far; expecting to be completed soon.
Winner for maximum uploader is yet to be announced (in process of selecting
a winner based on the defined criteria)].

We hope to complete the entire process by November end and submit report to
the community and to the foundation.

To summarise, we received 37,000+ images images in this edition from 1784
participants. 1500+ participants contributed to the movement for the first
time during the contest. From the 37,000+ images we received, 1300 images
are already been used in Wikipedia and it sister projects.

For us; we mean the community, the contest doesn’t ends here, there are
plenty of unused ASI monument images

which is now available to utilise them across the movement.

The WLM India core team which comprised of Abhinav Srivastava, Kiran
Ravikumar, Naveen Francis, Sanket Oswal, Santosh Shringare and Yohann
Thomas including me, would like to thank the *jury members*, *the
volunteers* & *the participants* who made this successful. Not to
forget, *Wikimedia

2015-08-08 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hi Ravi,

Good to see things going great. I have signed up as well; sorry, took
little time! :-)

Just one concern; planning day schedules right now doesn't look good. I
think it requires more resources; both in terms of time and brain. We need
to call for presentations and all; then plan accordingly to bifurcate all
in terms of concepts; so that we don't end up running two technical
presentation in same time as an example.

Just one point I felt we might have to go slow; other they look good and
I'm all for support and will request others as well.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Wiki Loves Monuments India 2015

2015-07-13 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear all,

We are somewhere in mids of July and have lead WLM India in past, me and
Kiran (marked in cc) decided to take it forward again this time after a
break.

Obvious, that we can not lead it every time and it will need fresh help to
take it forward, we would need assistance from some more willing hands. If
anyone would like to assist, feel free to send about you either to me or
Kiran (marked in cc) with your short profile.

Help required will be like about at least 5 hours a week and till November;
while the contest will be held in September. Feel free to drop us mail if
you would be able to spare so much time.

We do have a mailing list; thus further discussions will be held there thus
not to disturb the wide India list.

Finally Indian Express says that even Wikipedia had violated Net
Neutrality in India https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality_in_India
:
http://indianexpress.com/article/technology/social/net-neutrality-debate-its-not-just-limited-to-airtel-zero/

Content from the article in regard to Wikipedia and Aircel is as below:

*Aircel and Wikipedia:* In 2013, Aircel had announced that it will offer
free access to Wikipedia on mobile phones. The partnership is currently
valid for 3 years.

Wikipedia might be an instant go to for many of us, but that still doesn’t
justify why it should be free of charge on a particular network, when
accessing other sites means incurring data charges for users.

I think all points raised by Srikanth and everyone is valid on Wiki Loves
Food discussion thread. Srikanth was not the only one, it included me,

well before the contest goes live.

No one should have rights to say to the community to ignore someone's
queries raised because (it has) some emotions that some one has taken so
much of time and efforts to understand what exactly is happening and by
asking, he would alert is there needs any correction.

2015-04-18 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hi Jayantilal,

Your suggestions are valid but not your accusations.

Please note that every board member who have served the board will deserve
a great salute from me for spending their volunteer time and so Srikanth
does. I'm sure the current EC will also agree though its been just 4-5
months. It's not a easy task. Also note that Srikanth has given some
splendid contributions to the movement. He is that person who will just
walk for whole day on road to upload toll and images on buses to Commons.

Everyone has right to quit as well for their own reasons with the approval
of the board. I think as now we have a new board, its time to support them
and the movement in India.

without spending time in understanding what went good and what went bad.

Is it because the chapter is in deadline to do something as a big project

 actions from
the remaining office bearers namely the Secretary and Treasurer.

There is hardly any activity by EC in the last few months. Being EC

At least I am not expecting anything to happen from the secretary or

Wikimedia India Chapter is going through a critical phase with several
important and crucial decisions and deadlines pending. The surprising
resignations from two board members at this juncture has made this a
 complex

The timelines and deadlines are known to EC for quite some time. Why
no action has been taken so far?

Due to the above critical situation, a resolution has been put forth

One of us from the EC will be informing you of the decision output of

Nothing much can be done about resignations. Moksh has some good

CIS is an independent organization which has submitted this grant request

To further elaborate, Wikimedia India (WMIN) is a volunteer organization
while CIS-A2K is a paid organization working on the same goal.

Asaf has explained in detail on this list as to why this Grant Agreement

will not be sharing that agreement, on principle: not because there's
anything secret or damning in it, but because we do not want to create a
misleading precedent that may set the expectation that all WMF contracts

  Fellow Wikimedians,

As you all know, Center for Internet and Society, Bangalore has sought
funding of about *1.8 Crores* through the FDC process from Wikimedia
Foundation to carry out work on seven local language projects in India that
includes Kannada, Telugu among others. [1]
The funds primarily cover the salaries of the people belonging to the
CIS-A2K team among other administrative expenses and other expenses as
 outlined on their proposal page.

As may of you know, please note that CIS has proposed the said budget to
implement 21 plans of which there are 7 language area plans, 8 stand along
projects, 3 community strengthening initiatives, etc.

The proposal was up for Community review and comments until April 30th
and many have recorded their response about it [2]. Several community
members have come forward in pointing out that the staff salaries being
paid and that being proposed - are quite on the higher side (which is up to
2.4 Lakhs per month per person).

As you may have already seen in the budget, please note that the salary
proposed is for 7 employees on the CIS-A2K team and the average per person
salary would come to less than 1 lakh per month, per person and not as
 stated above.

Vishnu, I believe CIS has already agreed on the proposal page on meta that
the CIS-A2K are above industry standard. Please stop trying to mislead the
lost. What Hari said is that one of the Salary is about 2 lakhs INR and I
believe that is true. The WMIN propose for staff is also public and the
median of that is less than half of what CIS proposes.

CIS-A2K welcomes your feedback and suggestions.

 Thank you,
 Vishnu

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] A campaign for stopping donations to Wikimedia

2014-05-01 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hi Kevin,

You completely took it wrong. The intention was not to stop you, but to get
enough people who might be little hesitant to come here and share their
words. I would repeat the same that your comments are always welcome. :-)

Just to add to more what Dhaval has said and I have indicated the same on
the meta discussion page; I would prescribly like to know why the staffs at
CIS-A2K are not paid as per Indian standards. You'll never see such a money
going out in India at non-profit standards. I will not like to see an
example of Reliance or Tata here, as they have sufficient money and
resources to back-up everything in worst case situations.

Thanks,
Karthik Nadar.

their APG request is for less than $300k,) that's pretty much a drop in the

Do you suppose that because WMF FDC operate in currency called USD,
which has a reasonably high value in Forex market than the currency called
INR, in which this grant is going to be utilised, makes it valid to fund in
unethical way? I work in a huge company who outsources its work to India
and Poland just for the fact that salary structures and costs are quite low
 in those countries.

I can't buy your argument, with all due respect to your experience and
knowledge, that because it is insignificant ammount, WMF should not think
about unreasonable salaries. If that is the point, when WMIN's grant was
reviewed, why was this point forgotten? Or are you advising that at that
time WMF did not hand out such huge (6 million USD) a year?

It's been made clear that just because CIS may be awarded funds doesn't
mean that WMIN won't also be awarded funds, and that the entities aren't in
direct competition with each other. Trying to do something like get people
to boycott donating to the WMF because CIS is asking for a fraction of a
percent of WMF's total budget and something like 5% of available FDC funds
to be given to them is pointless if you don't succeed and shooting yourself
in the foot if you do succeed. If you were partially successful, your own
funding in future years would likely be diminished due to less overall
availability of funds, and if you were fully successful... well, Wikipedia
 wouldn't exist.

When the Indian chapter finds it in itself to cooperate with CIS, the

its run. With your campaign to stop asking people to donate to the WMF, you
spoil it for both. It is NOT a zero sum game and you have everything to

Why should Wikimedia donors pay for the mistakes of the WMF?

I am thinking if we should start campaigning asking people not to
donate to WMF citing wasteful expenditures like these.

Please point if any such campaign already exists.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] A campaign for stopping donations to Wikimedia

2014-04-30 Thread Karthik Nadar
When its about the Indian Community, I would further appreciate if
community members from India write in here. There seems to be more to
foreign members defending CIS-A2K grant while it should be more of Indian
community either defending or chasing.

I think Gerard needs to understand the Indian Community from depth; not
keep on defending CIS-A2K just because you were supposed to run a project
with them. The volunteer community here can also do that. We have well
versed Wikidata contributors. Please see how the volunteer activities have
dropped down so tremendously since past two years.

Everyone's comment on the discussion is appreciated; doesn't matters in
support or in contrast againsy the FDC proposal of CIS-A2K. But, seriously
and on first basis, it should be coming from Indian community members not
from anyone who doesn't understand the current scenario here. General
comments from anyone is welcome, but please do some home-work first.

Hi Ravi,

I'm sure campaigning against donations to Wikimedia will bring the movement
in bad light; but something like campaigning for Wikimedia India and
deteriorating its dependency on WMF will be awesome. Wikimedia India
currently needs some legal help to initiate after which we believe
that this is something needs to be achieved with strong support from the
community.

WMF has already decided that it wants to create more and more mess here.
I'm sure to see that the CIS-A2K will get almost 100% for what they have
requested for [maybe more :P]. Things are all scripted and discussions are
mere drama. Creation of such a project is itself a great proof for that.

Another example is: When first employee of WMIN was hired, WMF created such
a mess out of it. When A2K was started, WMIN had to no chance to voice out
for or against it.

Please note: I don't have any personal intentions against CIS. They have
been so open and helpful to WMIN. Its the WMF attitude towards its focus in
India that creates trouble and mess. Thanks to Them!

Thanks,
Karthik Nadar.

profligate spending, there's probably a hundred things in the Wikimedia

Translating should be quite easy, I'm doing it right now for Dutch. We are

Could you all please make sure that every language gets translated? Please
note that you need at least two people to translate: one to make the

We would like to aim for 7-10 days to get everything translated. After

Feel free to spread the message around and ask any questions you have.

At this point, all languages can use help translating or proofreading

 Dear Indian Wikimedians,

Although Wikimedia chapter for Pakistan is still in the discussion
phase, we've working on creating of an official Wikimedia User Group, since
the numbers of our community members at the moment are not sufficient for
 the creation of a chapter.

The main objective of this user group will be to act as a voice and
representative for the Pakistani Wikimedian community and to promote
Wikipedia and various Pakistani language Wikimedia Foundation projects
throughout Pakistan and further strengthen the community.

The initial goals our user group will be:

- Organise regular meetings and meetups in major cities of Pakistan
for discussions etc and planning of a Wikipedia workshop and Wikipedia
Takes The City photo contest in 2014
- To empower and engage Pakistani Wikimedians in both on-wiki and
off-wiki activities
- Growth of the Wikimedian community in Pakistan
- Creation of Wikimedia Pakistan chapter in the long run

Some ideas and suggestions from Indian chapter members will be welcomed
 and highly appreciated.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimedia India Chapter to bid to host Wikimedia Conference 2014

2013-09-26 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hi all,

This is to inform you that WMIN has decided to mount a bid for Wikimedia
Conference 2014 (aka Chapters Conference).

Our reasoning to bid is based on the fact that its been two years since we
hosted WCI, a much bigger conference in size as compared to this. There is
no perfect time when we can bid, we will need to make decisive decisions
should we aspire to grow. We are yet to hold an international conference of
any size. WMConf is a closed door conference and we expect to host about
100-150 persons for this. This would be an ideal setting to test ourselves
before a Wikimania bid, say in 2-3 years time.

When we prepared the bid we looked at options in Bangalore, Chennai,
Cochin, Dharamsala, Goa, Mumbai, Srinagar/Gulmarg and Varanasi. Of these
Goa was found to be the best bet and we have prepared a bid available for
viewing at:
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimedia_India_Chapter:Wikimedia_Conference_2014

[Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimedia India Chapter: FDC Proposal Review Request

2013-09-23 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear Members and Community,

In the last few days many of you have given your valuable feedback and
suggestions on our FDC proposal. We sincerely thank everyone for their
input.

We have tried to build a balanced proposal keeping everyones requirements
in mind. This has been a particularly tough job as the initial ideal budget
calculating all requests went over INR 2 crore. We have had to sadly cut
down on a lot of items to make it a more viable proposal. Though our
initial letter of intent was for $200,000, our goal was to submit a request
for around $100,000 so as to grow at a sustainable pace. However this has
been an extremely difficult task and in the end we decided to keep the
proposal to just under $150,000. We feel that we have included the needs of
the movement in India to a fair extent and at a sustainable level. We would
have loved to include a lot more, however we have had to restrict ourselves
with a heavy heart.

Kindly go through the link below and give your comments on the talk page
(Please DO NOT edit the budget itself).

The FDC grants process has begun. We have already sent in a letter of
intent. We are now moving to the next phase of making the application.

For those who do not know about the FDC grant, this provides for staff,
office, and infrastructure. We have considered opening a office in
Bangalore, with a meeting room cum training center, where about 10
computers will be available for users / trainees. We can use this for city
community meets, wikiacademies, editathons, hackathons, etc.

This measure is to provide for a formal office for the Chapter in India,
and give ourselves a exclusive address to meet compliance issues better.
The facility is also expected to be more centrally located within the city
so that members and other Wikimedians do not find it difficult to visit the
 office.

Yet another infrastructure proposal that has been considered is to have a
scanning facility to meet digitization requirements that can enable
wikisource, and other wikimedia commons file generation

We invite the community's suggestions towards major initiatives that can
be taken as part of our activities in the Calender year 2014. Kindly send
in your suggestions in the next 10 days. We will have discussions on the
suggestions through this period. We will add financial measures to the
 proposals and submit to WMF.

This is an open brain storming. Every one can build on the ideas of every
one else. Here is the webpage where you can add your suggestions.

Though I am from Kanchipuram, I can not point out the places, that are
 mentioned in these pages.
The same is for chennai too.

Is there any detailed address of each monument?

What does the numbers like S-TN-8, S-TN-9 ?

Example: S-TN-9 sivan koil (shiva temple) at kanchipuram.
There are more than 108 shiva temples at kanchipuram city itself.

What we have now is the list defined as monuments by ASI. S-TN-9 are the
unique identifiers which you will have to fill-in when you upload photos
for the contest. They are unique identifiers, by which we can identify the
name of the monuments if someone has not properly named the file.
Generally, for WLM we have a different Wikimedia Commons Upload Wizard,
wherein we have an option to fill-in the unique identifier.

 What temple does S-TN-9 means?

Collect the details of full address of each monument so, the photographers
 can reach the place easily.

This is a big task, which we need to complete within a week.

 Dear all,

I second others who have suggested against another Announcement list.

I sometimes see certain mails flooding too mailing list, and it really

Yes, I do face this problem. Often, nowadays, with the mails sent from A2K
 itself :(

If we have an announcement list, we can suggest everyone to subscribe to
the list who is interested in announcement from Indian communities like the
Chapter , the A2K and various other cities and languages communities.

Speaking for A2K, even if we have an Announcement list, we would still
like to send mails to all the mailing lists. I do understand that this
spams the inbox of people like you and I, who are subscribed to multiple
lists. However, I feel sending information to all the India mailing lists
is an essential part of being transparent, participatory and accountable to
the Indian Wikimedia community. Thus, I would suggest that Chapter and A2K
should not desist from proactive disclosure of information pertaining to
 the work we do.

Hello Vishnu, I don't personally indicate A2K here, I did specify that this
is applicable for generally; i.e. also for the Chapter and other
communities. I also second Rahmanuddin Shaik for adding something like
Announcement: so that people are aware that this is just an announcement,
which indirectly means that your comments. We should also encourage people
to post their comments on some other place like Meta Wiki, Wikipedia, or
WMIN Wiki. This will also keep record of for all communication, and it will
also keep our inbox clean. I have seen recently that many mails from the
Wikimedia India mailing list reach spam list instead of inbox, and that's
really sad. We end up missing various mails.

I'll also echo what Arun and all have expressed here. I'm really happy and
thankful that everyone came up here with your opinion :)

[Wikimediaindia-l] Request for an announcement mailing list

2013-05-17 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear all,

I suggest we have an announcement mailing list. I sometimes see certain
mails flooding too mailing list, and it really spams the inbox.

If we have an announcement list, we can suggest everyone to subscribe to
the list who is interested in announcement from Indian communities like the
Chapter , the A2K and various other cities and languages communities.
Preferably, the mailing list should be only for one way communication.

Admins at this (Wikimedia India) mailing list shall subscribe the
announcement mailing list with this email-id
wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org, so that it reaches mass.

Regards,
Karthik.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Creative Commons Affiliation

2013-03-07 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hello all,

This is to inform everyone that Wikimedia India was offered affiliation by
Creative Commons recently. The Chapter has considered this and has decided
to accept and is now working on the formalities. It would be one of the
three affiliates in India.

Since Wikimedia websites use CC licensing, there are a lot of synergies
among our organisations, though we would like to note that our main focus
area is and will continue to be Wikimedia. Other chapters like Wikimedia
Argentine and Wikimedia Indonesia are also CC affiliates.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] why to donate

2013-02-18 Thread Karthik Nadar
Dear All,

This is with reference to Sunils invitation to members of the Chapters EC
to help train the A2K team in Bangalore. A few clarifications from us:

1. Our Secretary was in touch with Sunil before he sent the clarifications
to the list. We felt since its a CIS invitation, its better Sunil clarifies
the issue and not us.

2. Our relations with Sunil and CIS are much older than A2K and our
relations are cordial. That the invitation came directly from Sunil was a
very important factor in our decision making.

3. Srikanth did say we will disclose if and when we do ever receive CIS
funding for anything. The training is yet to take place and hence nothing
was disclosed.

4. The EC never requested or expected any payment of fees nor was it
offered anything of that sort for this training (apart from reimbursement
of costs).

5. We are holding our board meeting while we will be in Bangalore. The
decision was taken for cost effectiveness and Sunil is aware of this.

6. EC was planning to hold a F2F meeting in the third week of February. We
would like to restate that it is purely a coincidence that both the
activities happened to be on the same dates and both of us mutually decided
to take advantage of this fact.

Dear Members of the Wikimedia India EC,

Hope 2013 has gotten of to an excellent start for all of you.

CIS is organising a training for the A2K team on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th
of February in Bangalore. The new Programme Director - Vishnu Vardhan
will also be attending this event. We would like the EC to spend one day
training the team on a variety of issues. We would prefer if you opt for
either 23rd or the 24th as we have some other trainers that have
 confirmed for the 22nd.

CIS will cover air travel and accommodation for all EC members. CIS will
also provide per diem for meals that are not provided during the
training. Unfortunately, we don't have a separate budget for fees.

This idea has been discussed with Anasuya Sengupta and Jessie Wild at
the Wikimedia Foundation and they have supported it.

 Best wishes,

 Sunil

Abhishek,

I'm not sure where you are getting this information from. Please get your
facts straight and stop speaking for the chapter. If you have a question,
you can ask it in the form of a question instead of making unsubstantiated
claims on a public mailing list, which is frankly unproductive since it
requires us to spend time to send out clarifications.

In case you are curious about the state of our finances, please refer to
our annual report which is linked from the main page of our website (

 Hi Dr. Nawab Hakim,
to clarify, the 2lakh that you are referring to was made as a grant to
the Centre for Internet and Society, an independent organisation working
 out of Delhi.

The Wikimedia Chapter (India) is independent society registered in India,
under the Karnataka Societies Act. It is a Non-Profit entity comprising of
volunteers. We rely on donations to run the Chapter.

I hope this clears it out.

 Namaste,

It is with immense pleasure, I wish to announce that Samskrit Wikiquote
project ( *विकिसूक्तिः*) is out of Incubator and is available as an open
source project like Wikipedia now. It was in a dormant stage with very
limited editing options and visibility since its inception.

We had started our efforts towards this in August 2012, persuading
Wikipedia Language Committee. Over 7000 system messages were translated to
samskrit, some 800 articles of useful content related to this project were
created and uploaded, which were some of the requirements to approve new
projects. Thanks to dedicated Wikipedians like Shiju Alex, that today we
have the project out of incubator, which means, this project would be
readily available for everyone to edit and use now on.

The project is a store house of Subhashitas extracted from different
scriptures like Veda, Upanishat Puraana, RamayaNa, Mahabharatam etc,
categorised based on the topics with explanations. Also, it contains the
idioms and phrases, witty puzzles, sayings of great people, Chitrakaavyam
etc, everything in Samskrit. It is to be noted that all these, in a single
webpage is not available anywhere else in such an easily available form. We
have about 1260 pages under various categories, for a ready review at *sa.

I request everyone to visit once for guidance, comments or contributions...

Once again, Congratulations to one and all who have been instrumental in
 crossing this milestone...

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] [Wikimedia-in-chn] Wikimedia India needs your support: Our First Fundraiser

2013-02-08 Thread Karthik Nadar
Hello Arun Ganesh,

Thank you for your response. These are baby steps and without 80g exemption
available, it is considered difficult to raise funds locally. Nevertheless,
this is an attempt to test unknown waters and we hope for a positive
outcome.

With regards to the budget, it was shared at the last AGM. As for the plan
for funds raised via the fundraiser, they will be used to pay staff and
hire an office. Our FAQ will be updated to reflect this.

As for the program plan, we have notified the list about an IRC, scheduled
11 Febrauary. We have planned an EC meeting in the 3rd week of February,
during which we aim to finalise the plan for the upcoming financial year.
Through the IRC we aim to include community ideas and suggestions.

 *Dear all,*

 *
*On the second anniversary of the Chapter, we made public our intention
of running our first fundraiser. Going ahead with the first phase of this
plan, we will be running a central site notice on the chapter website for a
period of two calendar months starting 1 February, 2013. In the second
phase of this plan, we aim to approach high networth individuals and
corporates in the month of March 2013. This will be done using personal and
professional networks of current and past EC members, staff, volunteers
 among others.*
 *
Suggestions, help and support from the community on what we can do to
ensure success of this fundraiser are welcome. Every drop counts :)

Donations can be made by Online Bank Transfer (NEFT/RTGS) or by sending
us a Cheque through snail mail. We are unable to accept card payments at
this current time. Link to the donation page on our website:
 http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Donate

 Thanking you,
 Executive Committee,
 Wikimedia India.

*Reasoning* (From our public statement on 4 January, 2013)

A lot of people may ask why the chapter needs a fundraiser when it has
access to WMF funding. The answer is, we are still ineligible for FDC of
WMF (we hope to be eligible for the second round of funding in 2013) and
would need to rely on grants, spending of which is restricted by the WMF.
Since formation, the chapter has relied heavily on the Executive Committee
to take on the burden of running the show. In an ideal world, the EC would
like to take on the role of guiding the chapter rather than actually be
responsible for operations after two years of incorporation, which should
be best done by professionals rather than volunteers in their spare time.

The chapter has hired an employee (Sowmyan Tirumurti, our Executive
Manager) as well as plans to lease its own office premises in Bangalore. We
will need the help of those volunteers who are in a position to support us.
It could be a small individual donation or in the form of a corporate
donation from an institution. A small token of support from you could go a
long way in helping us achieving our goals of furthering the movement in
 India.*
