It should not be expanding the tilde with incorrect casing, that's odd. I'd
try putting the full path in instead of the tilde notation

It doesn't appear that you're escaping the space in "Program Files"
- try:
kdesudo wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Dude/dude.exe &

Post full error otherwise.

[WISPA] Help Wanted, Badly....

2014-04-17 Thread Sam
Hi Everyone!

The company for which I work (Union Pacific Railroad) is looking to fill
several positions in several different areas of expertise in many areas
around the USA. In particular, we really need Java
developers/programmers. The requirements are:

A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering,
Management Information Systems or related field, or a minimum of six
years application development experience.

3+ years of solid Java hands on development experience.

Willingness to support 24x7 operations of mission critical systems.

Qualify on the Berger Aptitude for Programming (BAPT-Adv) Test.

Union Pacific is an outstanding company for which to work. Compensation
and benefits are among the industry leaders. If you're a Java programmer
(beginner to expert) you owe it to yourself to look into this. You can
apply or find out more information at https://up.jobs/job/opening/072767

I have one additional post I'll be making immediately following this
post with some additional needs.

I really hope that perhaps some of these positions will be beneficial to
either some of you, some of your family members, or some of your friends.

Thanks,
Sam

Re: [WISPA] Help Me Understand This WiMax Show We Had...

2014-03-28 Thread Paolo Di Francesco
Hi Sam

we have some operators in Italy using WiMAX in licensed and unlicensed.
In licensed it works well, in unlicensed it woks "not so well"

I have heard some marketing guy saying things like "it works till 20
miles and it gives you a lot of bandwidth" which is technically wrong
but it's a good commercial "white lie". the reality is "it works
till 20 miles OR it gives you a lot of bandwidth" meaning that yes you
can do 20miles but at lower efficiencies (=bandwidth) or you can have
high bandwidth if you have near customers with a good signal.
WiMAX does not do miracles

Lately I have heard that some WISP/operators are "abandoning" WiMAX and
moving to LTE or dual stack WiMAX/LTE because frequencies are usually
"technology independent" and LTE seems more supported by some vendors
and the new marketing magic word.

The problem is that devices are really expensive so you must have some
really good reason to convince the customer to buy that thing or you
must be sure that the customer will never abandon you. So the WiMAX is
not working in the WISP unlicensed business because if you have clean
channels you can give the same service with unlicensed 5Ghz and at lower
prices.

Indeed for the unlicensed market there are two options:

1) the channels are empty/clean and you can do whatever you want even
with a 5Ghz device
2) the channels are dirty/noisy and WiMAX does not work well there

Regards

Re: [WISPA] Help Me Understand This WiMax Show We Had...

2014-03-27 Thread Matt Corcoran

Wimax
-GPS Sync: needed for good frequency reuse

-Automatic transmit power control: so that CPEs only transmit at minimum
necessary level instead of blasting all the time into the adjacent cells.

-uplink sub-channelization! Think of it like this: Rather than a CPE
transmitting across the whole say 10mhz channel. 2 CPEs could each be
transmitting using half the available subcarriers like Two 5mhz channels
or 5 2mhz channels which dramatically increases uplink non-line of site
penetration. Sma

-MIMOA and MIMOB, A is more important for non line of site.

Use one of many 5ghz vendors for LineOfSite Customers.
Use wimax for non-lineOfSite customers.

Thought I should add, the wimax protocol is independent from the frequency
band used. 3.65ghz is commonly used for wimax by WISPs in this country due
to the light licensing, but equipment is available to run wimax in 5.8,
3.65, 3.5, 2.3/2.5, 900, 700 that I'm aware of. There is also non-wimax
equipment that will operate in all of those bands as well.

2014-03-27 Thread Chris Fabien
It's not as different or complicated as you think. Basically it's a
standard protocol that was designed for ptmp broadband access. It's a
standard, so in theory different operators equipment will talk to each
other unlike most of the popular WISP products that have drifted toward
proprietary protocols. The protocol is rather sophisticated and has some
"tricks" that help it have better success in nLOS situations than a
wifi-based protocol or canopy. The main downside from a performance
standpoint is higher latency due to how the scheduling works.

Your statement about adding another AP to get around obstructions is not
quite right, what you might be looking at is a base station that uses
antenna diversity to increase signal gain for nlos situations. Basically
multiple receive antennas on the same base station giving it ability to
hear the CPE better.

Well... Two sets of guys wires is not correct either. This tower should
have at least 4 levels of guy wire, not 2.

Amazingly 25G is extremely resilient to falling. There are several
videos on the web of guys dropping these towers and they continue to
stand after all the guys are cut.

Sounds like you have a tower that was installed in the "just wing it"
format. That's alot of 25/45/55G towers..

Good luck with that one...

I thought the bolt was bent the first time I saw it but I really think

The tower is 190' with 2 sets of guys, and inner and an outer set and
all 6 shackles are this way.

A couple of years ago I ran across this same shackle somewhere on the
internet and that is when I realized they are made this way.

I wanted to find it again just to read up about it.

I have to replace 3 turnbuckles at one anchor point due to someone
hitting it with a bushhog.
I really don't know how the tower is still standing. All guy wires
have so much slack you can swing them in circles like a jump rope.

I guess Rohn 25 towers are really strong, this one is almost free
standing :).

I did not make myself clear about the guy wires. There are 6 total sets
of guy wires on the tower. The bottom 3 sets are at around 50-70' from
the tower and the top 3 sets of guy wires are at a much greater distance
from the tower.

I am with you about the way it should have been done vs the way it was done.

The "good" turnbuckles do have a loop of cable thru them to keep them
from turning and the one set that got hit used to have a loop.

It will require some TLC to get back in shape but I have see worse.

I guess Rohn 25 towers are really strong, this one is almost free

Re: [WISPA] Help identifying this shackle

2013-09-16 Thread Bob Moldashel

LaRoy,

This is obviously the wrong part for the application. I personally would
be more concerned about the depth and proper construction of the
anchorage point.

The correct way would have been a leg anchor with a dispersion plate at
the end. The turnbuckles should have been eye & bolt style with the
blot ends mounted through the plates. Too late for that now

With what you have in place I would just replace the shackle with
another with a much greater load rating. Without knowing the tower
model, height, loading and physical location its only a guess. But
watch out. There is a ton of cheap Chinese crap on the market that,
while rated for a certain load, has failed under much less
considerations. Spend the money and get shackles from Crosby. They
don't play games.

The turnbuckles should also have security ties in place to prevent the
turnbuckle from being adjusted and in case the TB should fail.

I also wonder what the guy strand is coming out of the anchor point.

Scarey

Re: [WISPA] Help with old SAF installation

2013-05-13 Thread Daniel White
Olufemi,

I'm not sure many people on this list will be able to assist you with CFM...
that product was never sold in North America. I can't help you either... I've
personally never worked on them.

Installation manuals:

https://www.saftehnika.com/upload/File/Siebel/ODU_IM_EN.pdf
https://www.saftehnika.com/upload/File/Siebel/Splitter_IM_EN.pdf
https://www.saftehnika.com/upload/File/Siebel/CFM-FODU_TD_EN_V%201%207.pdf

I'd strongly recommend creating an account on our website, that way you can
access more information (all of the current CFM documentation is still on our
website, but you must login first to see it).

If you still have questions or need support I recommend reaching out to our
tech support team techsupp...@saftehnika.com<mailto:techsupp...@saftehnika.com>

We are still building and repairing CFM radios if it does come to that.

Good luck!

It seems that the management port on the POE/ODU doesn't work on these units

[WISPA] Help for New Pekin, Indiana

2012-03-08 Thread Jeff Broadwick - Lists
Hi All,

One of our customers (Telemedia Solutions) is located in one of the hardest
hit areas hit by the tornados in southern Indiana. They are all fine, but a
number of people in their community have lost everything.

I asked Charlie how I might donate to these folks and he gave me the church
below that has set up a fund. Then I thought that Wispa folks might be
interested in helping too, thus my email.

I spoke to the church. They don't have anything up on their website yet,
but they told me that 100% of whatever is taken in will go to help these
people. They are collecting to get a couple of cars (theirs were lost)
along with things like tarps, bedding, etc.

Here is the contact info if you'd like to help. At this point, you'll need
to mail a check.

They are going to try to put some info on the website tonight, but as you
can imagine, they are trying to help people first.

Not sure if it's appropriate to post help wanted stuff on the list, but
I'm looking for a "tower guy". Basically someone to take care of the
day-to-day tasks and maintenance of our wireless network infrastructure.
New tower site installations, troubleshooting issues on existing stuff,

or more. Previous Wireless Internet experience required or at least a

phone, vehicle, tools, and safety gear.

equipment, antennas, and cabling at new tower sites and upgrading
existing ones. Troubleshooting issues at existing tower sites, such as
lightning, water, interference, traffic, virus, and bad equipment
issues. Installation and troubleshooting of customer premise equipment
at customer's locations.

Compensation - Pay up to $20/hour based on experience. Paid health
insurance for employee. Paid vacation and holidays. Simple IRA

I didn't end up ordering part from CTI this time but Jeff saw my post and
went out of his way to drive over a half hour to Pac's warehouse. He flagged

shipped out. So I will have all replacement parts Saturday. But, wow.
Thanks Jeff. Go CTI!! Hutton, Allcom PC, Pac, and Defacto Wireless were also
all able to get overnight Saturday delivery orders out with only hours notice,
so thanks to them as well.

Brian,

Are you talking about Pac Wireless proper or a Pac Wireless distributor?

What equipment are you lacking? Maybe someone here can help fill the
equipment holes if it doesn't show up.

I watched that video, shsh! I have one really wobbly grain leg I use
that is only half that high, I can't imagine what was going through that
guy's head with it was falling.

Good luck to him, to be sure.

Re: [WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-02 Thread rabbtux rabbtux
Solved: Help replacement MT ... no ping

Many thanks to all who tossed out suggestions!

The situation:
Had a 5.8G backhaul link with MT-CM9 on one end, and old pebble linux
system on the other. Rebooted the pebble system yesterday afternoon
and its AP radio was no longer detected, thus creating the urgency for
my 'ready to go' replacement MT based system.

I had the replacement system Associate and saw excellent signal
strength. No ping from MT to MT system? When I disabled the
encryption on the new system, there was no association, so I assumed
the encryption was good. Another odd thing. The new system would
only associate at 1M, even when I moved things closer together. 1M
and -60db signal strength is very odd.

Solution:
Apparently when I entered the static Key in the security profiles, I
missed the box on the left, for the type of key. It was of type
"none" instead of 40-bit wep, 104-bit wep, or AES. I'm not sure if
the 'none' key is defined in 802.11a or not, but it was strange
'almost' working behavior, and my internal pressure caused this
solution to take 8 hours time, rebuilding systems, swapping radios
etc.

Again, Thanks everyone!

Marshall

2008-07-02 Thread Mark Nash
I've had this problem before when I set the interface on the AP to a certain
type. I believe I had to set it to AP Bridge or AP by itself in configuring
a point-to-point.

Re: [WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-01 Thread Jeromie Reeves
A quick way to check connectivity is to look at the neighbor list. You
should see the other system (and as a bonus its IP). If you do not
then something else is wrong (be sure the interfaces have it enabled).
As mentioned, turn off the encryption and get it working first. Double
check the arp tables too. How often and how much does your signal
bounce? Are the antennas very firmly mounted? I have a 13 mile link
that one end needs a stiffer mount, moderate wind causes enough
deflection that the link rate drops.

Re: [WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-01 Thread rabbtux rabbtux
On the AP side (producion system for year), it shows this test rb133
registered with rx 1M and tx to it of 6M. Its like the rb133 system
refuses to transmit at any rate above 1M??
Still, no ping between the two.

Re: [WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-01 Thread rabbtux rabbtux
no WDS and no Bridging involved. Using MT ping utility from either end.

I have swapped out CM9 radios and gone to a 'clean' rb133 with the
same ros2.9.50 as the AP.

I moved the client closer and noticed one ODD thing. With -72db on
both sides or even with -62db, the Registered rate is always 1M? yes,
this is 802.11a, yes the radios are set to 5.8G. The 'default' rates
are selected for radios on each end. Any ideas??

Re: [WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-01 Thread Mac Dearman
1. Kill all encryption on both ends, get them to pass traffic and then
proceed with enabling encryption.
2. be sure you have WDS in the bridge or have both sides set to dynamic &
bridge1 (or whatever it is)
3. Be sure of your gateway on both sides (this is generally the easiest to
jack up)

IP address on singel CM9 radio interface. Just Swapped out the pre
configured RB333 system with a clean RB133 and freshly configured to
the other AP. Still, it associates with encryption key, but no ping!

[WISPA] help! replacement MT based 5.8G system connects, but no ping!

2008-07-01 Thread rabbtux rabbtux
All,

I'm at wits end as my network is crippled and I'm having problems
getting the replacement system to talk. Both systems have the correct
security key, as they will not register to each other correctly
without it. The new system is ros3.9 and it is PTP with another
ros2.9.50 system. These two systems connect with 65dbm signal
strength but I can't ping from either end. I, of course double/triple
checked interface IPs and masks. I have used MT for about a year and
a half, without issue, however, I'm probably missing something here as
I work with looming customer calls about when will the replacement
system be up!

Anyway, It would be great to speak to someone with more MT experience
than myself on this one! Please hit me off list for details.

Thank you kindly,
Marshall Craw

RE: [WISPA] Help Needed PtP Links

2006-07-13 Thread Patrick Leary
Not sure. These were data reported back to us came from trusted beta
customers. The 80Mbps was from a customer in the south trunking back a bunch
of video connections, the 62Mbps was reported by a large (6k plus CPE) WISP
in Texas, where I suppose it was being used for traditional WISP backhaul
with commercial and residential Internet access and commercial VLAN stuff.

I'll ask the U.S. product manager (bcc'ed here) about performance per
specifically UDP, TCP, and Smartbits. Stay tuned, assuming he fills me in!

No. We tend to be RF purists (for better or worse) and components that have
so wide a frequency range have poorer performance. It is a trade off for
sure, but that is why we have not built such a system.

As to channelization, it is 40MHz. Our goal was to offer high performance,
very high quality, great simplicity, and at a very moderate price. This is
not trying to be an Orthogon Spectra and even Redline AN-50 -- WISP already
have those options if you have the need and the money. The BreezeNET B
series offers a fully featured product with "right-sized" capacity at very
modest cost. The BNET's offer Toyota quality, BMW performance, but at a
Chevy price.

Jory (et al),

Take a look at our new B100, an addition to popular B14 and B28 BreezeNET
backhaul/bridging line. Lots of people here can give you feedback on the B14
& B28. Feedback from the field on the B100 has provided some really strong
results:

62 Mbps sustained NET throughput at 16 miles
80 Mbps sustained NET throughput at 1 mile

It is a very simple product to install and is highly integrated. The B100
comes with external antenna ports. List price is less than $8K (many here
can chime in with expected discounts to give you an expectation of "street
price."

Touche Gino and fair to call me on it, but that is another trade off in the
interest of price competitiveness. We believe that since tight antennas can
be used to mitigate exposure risks (and we FCC certify with good quality
antennas).

Touche Gino and fair to call me on it, but that is another trade off in the
interest of price competitiveness. We believe that since tight antennas can
be used to mitigate exposure risks (and we FCC certify with good quality
antennas).

List price is less than $8K (many here
can chime in with expected discounts to give you an expectation of "street
price."

[WISPA] HELP M2 Yagi won't work NEED to install tonight!

2006-02-22 Thread Brian Rohrbacher
I am trying to get an install done tonight but can only get -112 dbm on
a Canopy SM with a M2 yagi. I hung the Canopy yesterday (my first one)
and did an install. I did one install earlier today with the 13 dbi
yagi from CTI, so I know I'm not doing something on the radio wrong.
Anyway, these antennas have to be assambled and must be I put it
together wrong. Well, as soon as an answer I'll go finish the install.
The install is 5 miles LOS. It didn't work so I came home and assembled
another Canopy radio and antenna and this one didn't work either. My
house is 1/2 mile LOS, so it's not a low signal issue. Anyway, it must
be these M2 Yagis.

Give me a call if you want. 269 838 8338
