2005-10-25 Thread Tom DeReggi

JohnnyO,

When you can tell me you've installed In this type of noisy environment

Of course every environment is different. But We have with great success
with Trango.

Try colocating right next to qty 5 - 929Mhz 500 watt OMNIs, and the same
horizontal plain in Urban america with -60db RSSIs from them, -30db RSSIs on
the top channel.

Feel free to share one technical reason why the Canopy is capable of dealing
with interference better than Trango. (other than personal experience,
because that can not be verified or accurately debated). My guess is in
your environment, you weren't taking advantage of Trango's flexibility and
using the best polarity for the job. I find most noise, such as from SCADA
systems, are on verticle polarity, very easy to combat with a radio like
Trango that supports horizontal pol antennas on the fly. You probably were
using omnis or testing with Trango default antennas. Try matching up Trango
w/ Tiltek Horizontal sector w/ their convenient ext antenna port on all APs
and CPEs capable to add narrow beam Yagis.

Trango has 3 ways to combat interference. 1- dual pol switchable, 2- dynamic
leveling to compress out noise, 3- ARQ

The choice for 900 Mhz radios is florishing right now, all very high grade
radios (WaveRider, Alvarion, Tranmgo, Canopy, AirSpan, WaveIP). All have
their own little unique benefits that make them special. Alvarion- Mobile.
WaveRider- Dual Polarity Diverity. Trango- Dual Pol switchable + ARQ +
great diag tools. Canopy- easy interface w/ diag statistic for Jitter and
such.

But as far as surviving noise, not confident that Canopy shines in that
territory above Trango. I just don't believe it.

platform that will work here.

We're using sector antennas and using the water tower as a shield for

Our tests have shown that the Trango outperform the Canopy in noisy
enviroment based on its built in dynamic leveling to compress out noise.

The advantage of the Ubiquiti 900M, is its ease to add to an existing
WRAP
or Mikrotik AP, for a relay radio / cell extender.
For example, 5.8 or 5.3 to the neighborhood court, and then 900Mhz for
indoor CPEs located on the court.

But Ubiquiti is not the only radio manufacturer with a plan up its sleve

similar.

Just and FYI Demarc has know about this for some time and as soon as
its ready to go we will have CPE and base units that will support it.

The CPE will come with 10dBi or 12dBi options as well as the 250mW or

1 Watt output options. While not locked down we should be able to do
4, 2 or 1 OFDM non overlapping channels which can be used for either
CPE or backhaul designs. The units will also have polling to get the
most out of the 900Mhz band. Also pricing is not set but we are sure
it will be less then anything on the market today with more options,
we will have to wait and see :)

2005-10-25 Thread Marlon K. Schafer (509) 982-2181
OK, talking about all of the ways that Trango has to fine tune the radios
has me thinking.

I've got two systems that I'm having some trouble with. Both are low to the
ground and I'm sure I'm seeing multipath. GREAT speed tests radio to radio
but poor data rates and high error rates (5% most of the time). Still much
better than the wifi it's replaced but it needs to be better.

I don't know the cli on these radios and don't have the time, desire or need
to learn. I do need some help from someone that knows them insideout.
Anyone need an hour or two of consulting to help me get these two systems
polished up so that they run at full speed?

thanks,

Before putting anything on a tower near new orleans
I would suggest you do a site survey first. Unfortunantly, Since the cell guys
came into town 5.7/5.8 does not work anymore. There is a wisp here that has a
meeting with the FCC today here in New Orleans to try to make them take their
36db dishes down and play nice. Everyone wants to shoot 5.8 and it just aint
working no more. 5.8 gear is still up and hopfully it will beable to be used
again cause the 5.2/.3 is extremly crowded as you can imagine. Joe

Have you considered using 5 and 10MHz channel space in the 5 gig range.

I'm not saying that even 5MHz will work with the cell backhauls, but may
help you with the lower 5 gig range.

Maybe. Then again, if 3650 wasn't contention based, it would be able to be
used today, and providers would have more channels to choose from instead of
all fighting for the one high power band.

MY fear is that all bands are just made into a stalled state.

So far stalled spectrum is... TV band SUB-700M, 5.4G, 3.650G, ITSF 2.4G
lost, etc. It sure would have been nice to have those bands available.

I forwarded this information on to our FCC / NCS liason, Allan Manuel, and
as he says below he will intervene if you need assistance. His contact
information is included in his message below. He is a good guy and
genuinely tries to help. We can call on him for anything related to
communications issues requiring FCC intervention in the affected areas. He
is working very hard right now on getting Access Letters to folks in the
Wilma affected areas along with many other hurricane issues so he may be a
little hard to reach but he does return calls unlike most anyone else from
D.C. it seems. Allan is one of the good guys so do not take any
frustrations you have out on him please. He will listen to your concerns
but please be cordial. He has been the only person from D.C. I have dealt
with directly that seems to genuinely understand what we are doing and has
concern for trying to aid us in operating effectively on the front lines.
Maybe someone will make him chairman someday. :-)

Best of luck gents,

[WISPA] BPL

2005-10-25 Thread RickG

*** BPL Growing More Popular *** http://www.americasnetwork.com/americasnetwork/content/contentDetail.jsp?id=188591

You know a technology is getting hot when, in the space of a month or so, key players attract investment from the likes of Google, Intel and Motorola. That happened recently with broadband over power line (BPL), yet another contender in the crowded contest of last-mile broadband technologies that includes cable, DSL, fiber and various wireless approaches. As its name indicates, BPL sends megabits per second of data over the lines that deliver electric power from substations to homes and businesses. And according to supporters, it offers advantages that even the famously cautious electric utility industry finds hard to resist.

Chuck,

Good to see you are smarter than the average bear.wink
We don't get a lot of those on the Free WISPA list.

Seriously now, why do you ask?

Thanks,
Dawn

Chuck,

I would suggest you read through the isp-clec archives, subscribe to the
list and post a message that says, Can anyone tell me everything I need
to know about becoming a CLEC? I understand they respond very well to
that question.
http://isp-lists.isp-planet.com/isp-clec/archives/ Get back to me and
let me know what they said . ;-)

Thanks,
Dawn

My wife just called up the Oregon PUC and they walked her through the
part that deals with the state. It was pretty much a paper filing
shuffle.

They were very helpfull.

The part where you then deal with the telcos is a diferent story though.
That you need experienced help.

George

We just got our Washington State CLEC license. I went through a
consultant who was much more reasonable than an attorney. He negotiated
with the ILEC's and got a fantastic rate for us plus got the prefixes,
National NECA numbers, etc.. If you want I can hit you up with his email,
just let me know. I can't believe why I didn't do this years ago.

John,

   Maybe it's http://www.laliotis.org/companies.htm, without the b, like

I went there and did not see a phone number or email link. I guess if he
is not subscribed to this list then we are out of luck because I have
tried everything I know how to contact him. Thanks for the help anyway guys.
