Re: Entities Limit

Howdies,
  The
limitshttps://developers.google.com/adwords/scripts/docs/limits#execution_limitsare
 generally 50k items per iterator and 250k overall (across all
iterators) per script (not applicable to reports).

How many items are you trying to read/write? Whats the exact text of the
error message?

Re: Call to API to return weekly cost data by keyword

2013-05-23 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Patrick,
  The Keyword Performance Report will return one unsegmented row per
adgroup + keyword combination (separated by matchtype, of course). We

across adgroups/campaigns. I'd recommend using a Keyword Performance

Re: Unmarshalling Error: For input string -- for CampaignId

2013-05-23 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Jack,
  The CampaignId must be numerical. In your ad group structure:

[{'operator': 'ADD', 'operand': {'status': 'ENABLED', 'bids':
{'keywordMaxCpc': {'amount': {'microAmount': '3'}}, 'xsi_type':
'ManualCPCAdGroupBids'}, 'name': 'AdGroup: group #11',
'campaignId': u'** 4432644030202152013'}}]

It appears that campaignId is not solely numerical. I'd track back and try
logging the contents of that field at various points in your code to
discover where it gets changed.

Re: How do I track down Google Login, Developer Token, and Client Customer ID?

2013-05-23 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Patrick,

Google Login - this is the credentials you use to log in and manage your
AdWords Account. Our client libraries can accept an email and password and
obtain an AuthToken from the ClientLogin service (which is deprecated), or
you can use OAuth2 to avoid writing down your password (recommended).

Developer Token - you can find this value in your developer MCC account
under My Account - AdWords API Center. You'll need an approved token if
you want to work with non-test accounts.

ClientCustomerId - this is the Customer ID of the account you wish to make
calls against - format is 123-456-7890 (dashes optional).

Re: Mobile apps through adwords API

2013-05-21 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi,
  1. With enhanced campaigns, all campaigns target mobile and desktop. You
can use the
AdGroupBidModiferServicehttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201302/AdGroupBidModifierServiceto
 change the bidModifier for mobile.
  2. Yes, you can add
Locationhttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201302/CampaignCriterionService.Locationand

Proximityhttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201302/CampaignCriterionService.ProximityCampaignCriteria.
  Zip Codes are currently in beta. Here's a full list of
Locations:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/geotargeting
  3. Check this page for a full list of targeting/bidding:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/targetingtypes
  4. Generally not - you'll want to segment by device to look at
mobile-specific traffic. See our full list of reports here:

 3. Optimize this campaign - set different bids to different applications

 4. Reporting - Any caveats for mobile?

Re: Sitelinks Feed Mutation

2013-05-20 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Pete,
  If you are following our recommendation to use one feed per placeholder
type, you have a few options:

- You can alter existing items via a FeedItemService.mutate(SET) to have
new values
- You can ADD/REMOVE existing items (and update the CampaignFeed function
to refer to the new IDs).
- Just update the CampaignFeed's function to change which items the given
campaign is using.

 Would all code stay the same except for the List of FeedItems used as

Re: PLA Reports

Hi greez,
  It depends on what you are trying to do. The Keywords performance report

Hi Justin,
  It's not possible to modify the bid modifiers for that criterion type via

Re: How to set geo-targets in new campaign (python)

2013-05-16 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi,
  The two types of geo targeting at the campaign level are the campaign
criteria for
Proximityhttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201302/CampaignCriterionService.Proximityand

Locationhttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201302/CampaignCriterionService.Location.

 The Proximity target allows you to specify a GeoPoint with microdegrees
(i.e. float times 1,000,000) or you can specify the address (which gets
turned into a geo point behind the scenes) - both options allow a radius.
 You only need to specify one or the other - both re not required.

 I am confused about geoTargeting:

 We want to *create a campaign* with a specific targeting area: Either
 by address + radius *or* by Lon/Lat point + radius.

 My input:
 I'm getting the coordinates from google maps, which is a floating-point
 number.
 google maps also provides the exact/estimated address (st, city, country,
 etc).

 If I get it right, I can set the target either by ADDing a criterion,
 or (from the examples) by 'geoTargeting': { 'proximityTargets': {
 'circles': [{  'latitudeMicroDegrees': 3434543 , 'longitudeMicroDegrees':
 654, 'radiusMeters': '9656')  }]  },  },

 1) If it's possible with both methods, then what's the difference?

 2) if not, Which method should I use?

 3) Google* maps*' coordinates is a float.
 Google *AdWords* documentation seems to want an integer.
 i saw *in the
 group*https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!searchin/adwords-api/geopoint$20100/adwords-api/FMIN-1bl95I/0_Bv9aPqJWcJthat
  someone multiplied the float by 100.
 Is that the correct conversion?

 4) in question (1), it's possible to add a *criterion *with *both* address
 and geoPoint.
 Is that correct?
 If so - does it make sense to create a campaign criterion with both
 address and geopoint?

Re: Query regarding rate sheet

What would be the rate per operation?

I'm not sure what you mean - one mutate operation = 1 operation, 1 GET call

operations per day.

Re: Account missing in InfoService?

2013-05-13 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi James,
  Correct, this process has been deprecated for some time
now:
http://adwordsapi.blogspot.com/2011/11/discover-v201109-changes-to-accounts.html

There are many ways around this. If you have the email/password or oauth
credentials for the client (ads-serving) account, you can make a
CustomerService.get call which will return the client customer ID. If on
the other hand you are given the credentials of an MCC account and the
client's email, we recommend changing your process to request the
clientCustomerId rather than clientEmail.

 *Example 1 - Normal Use*

 We connect to the API using our parent account and then create an
 InfoSelector in order to load information about the sub account. We pass
 the InfoSelector to the InfoService and something like this is returned:

 ApiUsageInfo Object
 (
 [apiUsageRecords] = Array
 (
 [0] = ApiUsageRecord Object
 (
 [clientEmail] = exa...@email.com
 [clientCustomerId] = 1234567890
 [cost] = 0
 )
 )
 [cost] = 0
 )

 We then use the clientCustomerId in subsequent requests to the API using
 'SetClientId'

 *Example 2 - Incorrect Email*

 If we use a completely fake email then we get an error, like this:

 [ApiUsageError.INVALID_CLIENT_EMAIL @ selector; trigge...@email.com']

 *Example 3 - Problem Account*

 For this one account, when we pass the request to the infoService we do
 not get an error. We simply get the following response:

 ApiUsageInfo Object
 (
 [apiUsageRecords] =
 [cost] = 0
 )

 It is as though the accont *doesn't have* a client customer id?

 When we speak to adwords support they tell us that the account is fine
 and that they are unable to support the API.

 Does anybody have any suggestions as to what we should try with this
 next?

 Many thanks in advance!

The enum for CriteriaType lists all the criteria types even though reports

Re: DeviceTypeSearchParameter deprecated in v201302? And what alternative?

Hi Eric,
  It's our understanding that this was removed from the API in advance of

You can evaluate device trends in your own campaigns by segmenting by

Re: Policy Violation after Validation

2013-05-03 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Nils,
  I think if you sent those same ads to the AdGroupAdService instead of the
MutateJobService, you'd still get the policy errors. The validateOnly
process is a best effort - it won't necessarily apply ALL the validation
that a real request goes through - just most of it. Think of validateOnly
as a good sanity check, to make sure the request is mostly right. On
actual mutate it goes through the whole gauntlet of checks.

Re: Does the AdWords API support authentication via service accounts (OAuth 2.0)?

2013-05-03 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi all,
  The PHP does not currently support service accounts out-of-the-box - it
requires a combination of Google Client Libs integration to achieve this.

For Python, you can pass that credentials object into the AdWordsClient
constructor like this:
https://code.google.com/p/google-api-ads-python/source/browse/trunk/examples/adspygoogle/adwords/v201302/misc/use_oauth2.py#75
 .
 However, you need to explicitly impersonate a user.

Can I ask why you are using service accounts? Service accounts are used to
impersonate specific users while using Google Apps for your Domain. For
most cases, simply performing the auth flow once and persisting the refresh
token is sufficient for non-interactive usage of the API.

We're working to make it easier to use OAuth2 with the various client
libraries and would appreciate feedback.

 path which is:

 I have not seen anything that shows how to use a *service account
 authentification* to create the AdWords client object. All of the example
 for using the adwords with oauth require having a client_secret which we do
 not have (and cannot create for AdWords AFAIK). I can authenticate using
 the OAuthExample at: /google-api-python-client/samples/service_account and
 substituting AdWords for Tasks, but this hands me back an http object which
 I am unclear how I tie that into the adwords API.

 Specifically here:
 credentials = SignedJwtAssertionCredentials(
 '1xx...@developer.gserviceaccount.com javascript:',
 key,
 scope='https://adwords.google.com/api/adwords')
 http = httplib2.Http()
 http = credentials.authorize(http)

 So what do I do now with that http object? The Java examples seems to hand
 back a authentification object which can be passed to the Adwords Client.
 Is any of that correct? It seems like other people are able to accomplish
 this, but I am lost.

 Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Does the AdWords API support authentication via service accounts (OAuth 2.0)?

2013-05-03 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Brent,

It seemed to me that service account was my only option, not an option I
chose. I initially started down the path of doing exactly what you
described, even using the Django sample included in the OAuth lib. However,
all these examples, and in fact all API's except for service accounts
seemed to require a client_secret which I do not see in my account. (I
get a client_id obviously). What I do see is the p12 key, which tends to
lead you to believe that you should be using that, and I believe the only
type that uses that is using a Service Account.

I would have no problem using the more typical interactive authorization as
the application does have a web interface, but I could not see how to get
the API Console to give me a client_secret for the AdWords API. (I tried a
couple of other API's out and they provide the client_secret and the OAuth
examples work just fine).

Hopefully I am mistaken and there is a way to obtain a client_secret for
AdWords and I can go down the simpler path of interactive authentification.

If I navigate to https://code.google.com/apis/console/ and choose my
project, then click on API Access, I see the attached screenshot that has
the client ID and secret (that I previously created). If you haven't
already, you can create a client ID to use OAuth2 - service accounts are
not the only way (and certainly not the easiest way). What we recommend is
to use the client ID and secret (from that page) to perform the OAuth2 flow
once (for each account you would normally use an email and password with
for ClientLogin) - save the refresh token and use it to obtain a fresh
Access Token any time you need to make API calls.

 Hi all,
   The PHP does not currently support service accounts out-of-the-box - it
 requires a combination of Google Client Libs integration to achieve this.

 For Python, you can pass that credentials object into the AdWordsClient
 constructor like this:
 https://code.google.com/p/google-api-ads-python/source/browse/trunk/examples/adspygoogle/adwords/v201302/misc/use_oauth2.py#75
  .
  However, you need to explicitly impersonate a user.

 Can I ask why you are using service accounts? Service accounts are used
 to impersonate specific users while using Google Apps for your Domain. For
 most cases, simply performing the auth flow once and persisting the refresh
 token is sufficient for non-interactive usage of the API.

 We're working to make it easier to use OAuth2 with the various client
 libraries and would appreciate feedback.

 path which is:

 I have not seen anything that shows how to use a *service account
 authentification* to create the AdWords client object. All of the
 example for using the adwords with oauth require having a client_secret
 which we do not have (and cannot create for AdWords AFAIK). I can
 authenticate using the OAuthExample
 at: /google-api-python-client/samples/service_account and substituting
 AdWords for Tasks, but this hands me back an http object which I am unclear
 how I tie that into the adwords API.

 Specifically here:
 credentials = SignedJwtAssertionCredentials(
 '1xx...@developer.gserviceaccount.com',
 key,
 scope='https://adwords.google.com/api/adwords')
 http = httplib2.Http()
 http = credentials.authorize(http)

 So what do I do now with that http object? The Java examples seems to
 hand back a authentification object which can be passed to the Adwords
 Client. Is any of that correct? It seems like other people are able to
 accomplish this, but I am lost.

 Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Julian,

Our goal is to be able to detect changes to campaigns (and it's children,
and it's children's children, etc) since a certain datetime untill now.
 We're talking about additions, deletions and updates -- in other words any
and all changes. If CustomerSyncService is not the best way to go about
it, how would you advise we proceed?

It depends what you need to detect these changes for. If its simply to
make sure your local copy of data is up to date, another approach might be
to periodically download structure
reportshttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/structure-reports.

 Most attribute fields are there (but not all).

It is unfortunately not currently possible to to detect each and every
change to any field in AdWords. CustomerSyncService and structure reports
don't cover every field for every object. The API itself doesn't have
fields the UI allows you to edit.

This is part of standard risk detection. The IP address your server uses
to access ClientLogin is different from the IPs that the account normally
logs in as (which is what it looks like when someone has compromised the

We're working on a mini-guide explaining how to approach this. In the
meantime, here's a draft:

Test accounts will not serve impressions, therefore they will not have any
metrics. It is still possible to download structural
reportshttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/structure-reports-
 but you will only see zero-impression rows, which means that segments
will not work. To get around this limitation, we suggest displaying fake
data. The Token Review team needs to see that your application can
interact with and display report data. By mocking out the report call
(i.e. pretending the report call succeeded and using a locally stored file
containing fake report data), you can work with report data without
actually having such data come back from the API.

The reports come back in a predictable format. Let's say you wanted to run
a Campaign Performance Report pulling Date, Campaign Name, Id, Impressions,
Clicks, Cost. An example file could look like this:

CAMPAIGN_PERFORMANCE_REPORT (Mar 20, 2013-Mar 23, 2013)
Day,Campaign,Campaign ID,Impressions,Clicks,Cost
20130320,Widgets,123,1211,19,14.92
20130320,Sprockets,456,300,4,2.92
20130321,Widgets,123,901,12,9.86
20130321,Sprockets,456,340,5,3.86
20130322,Widgets,123,1065,16,11.23
20130322,Sprockets,456,509,6,5.23
20130323,Widgets,123,1005,15,10.12
20130323,Sprockets,456,287,3,1.12

By constructing such a file and storing it locally, you could have your
application mock the call to the API - when the report is requested, return
the stored file and process that rather than making an actual API call.
 You can create one file like this for each report you’d like to display.

Re: Find the keywords related to Ad

2013-03-26 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Worg,
  Keywords don't have any direct connection to a specific ad. You add
keywords to an ad group. That ad group also has ads associated with. At
serving time, bids and other factors determine which keyword triggers an ad.

If you want a list of all keywords that can trigger an ad, you should use
the AdGroupCriterionService with a predicate that specifies AdGroupId
EQUALS 123 where 123 is the Id of the adgroup to which the ad belongs.

If you want a list of all keywords that actually triggered an ad during a
timerange, an Ad Performance
Reporthttps://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports#adwith
the KeywordId is your best bet (but only gives you the id, not the
actual keyword - you can use KeywordId + AdGroupId to find the keyword text
via either a Keywords report or the AdGroupCriterionService).

 If a provider has a fully authorized and compliant Adwords Google Client

 violating the terms of service. The specific product in mind would allow
 this third party A to sign up Google Adwords users send a restricted set of

 From my understanding of the API client terms of service that is a no no

 I'm also am wondering how serious of an offense this is if it is against
 the TOS... I'm guessing that it could be a company bannned for life form

 I'm asking this question because I know of someone who wants to use it to

 Historical Heritage in USA
 Honeymoons in Mexico
 Nightlife in Spain
 Shopping in Mexico
 Extreme Sports in USA
 Diving in Spain

 on the second column I need to show up the respective countries.
 on the third column, I need to make appear the number of times that the
 keyword was searched in google, all over the world.
 on the forth column, I need to appear the number of times that the keyword

 You can see it better on the example!
 I need this to be fully automatic. Is this possible? How can be done?

 Note: I am not looking to see clicks, bids or campaigns, I just want the

Hi Örjan,
  The CustomerSyncService will only return the IDs of objects that have

Re: Web and API column Queries

2013-03-26 Thread Kevin Winter (AdWords API Team)
Hi Hem,
  The impressions, CTR and cost all match, so I'm wondering if your code is
misinterpreting the response. Can you post a raw response from the API?

You should be able to pull all these fields via a Campaign Performance
Report:

Hi all,

In general, the accounts will be marked as test accounts before you receive
an email. The quickest way to test is to make a request against the test
account. If you use an unapproved developer token and the request
succeeds, the account has been made a test account. Approved developer
tokens can use to TestAccount

 Any additional details are much appreicated.

945-772-2971 is a test account - make sure you target it by setting the

Hi Reed,
  I think one of the main reasons to use a enum for the minutes is that we
only accept a limited subset of values. It's intuitive from the field name
what range of values we expect for the hour, but not for minutes. By using
the enum, we make it clear to the developer that we only accept a subset.
 If we accepted a numerical value, the only indication of the limited
values would be in documentation, which is less explicit than an enum.
