Re: Faith and christianity Having been to catholic services I can honestly say that I do believe they worship Marry and even certain saints to some degree. I stress, this is my belief of the catholic church; far be it from me to know what in the world lies in the heart of man. The church of course is different in many other ways, but perhaps this is the one that bothers me the most.They refer to it as Veneration of Marry and the saints. Let us define veneration:The act of venerating, or the state of being venerated; the highest degree of respect and reverence; respect mingled with awe; a feeling or sentiment excited by the dignity, wisdom, or superiority of a person, by sacredness of character, by consecration to sacred services, or by hallowed associations.Merriam-Webster says that to venerate is to regard with reverential respect or with admiring deference, or to honor (as an icon or a relic) with a ritual act of devotion.The root word for veneration is the Latin venerārī, which means I worship, adore, or revere, at least two of which are things Ive known to be advocated to some degree or another when it comes to Marry or the saints, to the point that there are statues or depictions of them in catholic churches and houses. Ive also heard the old saying among catholics, To Jesus, through Marry. This saying implies that they believe they can pray to Marry to intercede on their behalf, going so far as to call her the queen mother. Even if in the end you dont flat out want to call it worship, it is borderline idolatry, and we only need look at the 10 commandments to know that idolatry is a no no as far as Gods concerned.Of course, as I sated previously, far be it from me to say I know the intentions of others at all times, so all I can do is let God deal with them as he sees fit. For example, most of the catholic masses Ive been to in Canada dont generally mention merry other than calling her the blessed virgin and mother of God... and that I have an issue with. but all their prayers are concluded by saying throug hchrist our lord. As I said before there are various things about catholicism I dont agree with, but thats for God to judge... not me. Re: Faith and christianity @Camochek if your so bothered about first century christianity, I suggest you go and find some orthodox messianic jews, sinse thats probably as close as your going to get, but really as has been said I dont see why this matters as I think God is more than capable of understanding different sorts of worship. @Assault freak, I will say the penticostals Ive run across in Britain have universally been of the very exclusive hell fire and damnation for all who dont do exactly what we do sort of camp, which is something Im just not comfortable with. For example, my brother was once at a penticostal service where a chap had setup a gay rights information booth in the next street. Half way through the service the priest stopped and actually said to the congrigation I hope everyone has seen this dreadful thing that is being committed and will join me after the service to protest against it this then resulted in an entire church fu ll of people confrinting this poor gay rights chap and subjecting him to the verbal equivolent of a stoning. Indeed my brother was so uncomfrotable with that sort of hate mongering he never went back to that church and did actually go and oppologise to the gay rights chap later on. Now, I am absolutely certain not all penticostal churches are like this at all, but you can see why Im wary about it. Regarding believing your own way is the one true way I dont particularly mind, accept when, as all too frequently happens this results in a severe misstreatment of other people and a sense of pride and smugness. There is actually a wonderful passage in the screwtape letters (one of my favourte works of christian literature), where it is emphasized just how easy it is for christians to feel superior whilst in church and look down on others. about all religions leading to god, well Id roughly go along with the idea that all religi ons lead to god so long as heyre practiced properly, ie, being nice to people, actually developing an everyday spiritual relationship and connection with god, and not being practiced wrongly, ie, going out and thumping people who disagree with you, and spending the rest of your time feeling smug and superior. I will confess at the moment I am somewhat failing on the relationship to god angle, and indeed at the second I am not convinced God is that much bothered about what humans do or dont do, but that is pretty much my problem, and I still do have a great respect for the people Ive met who Id describe as holy the people who actually have a tangible sense of a relationship with God about them. Interestingly enough, only some of these have been christian. Regarding prayers to, and veneration of Mary and the saints, this I think is a case where you need to look at the society and culture of the medeival church. Jesus in medeival terms was dam scary! there was little conception of a personal relationship with God or with Jesus, just as you didnt make a personal relationship with your king. There is a wanderful paintaing from a French church which I once had described to me, that shows God, sitting fairly aloof on a throne at the back. in front of God is Jesus, who is depicted as a knight in very nasty, spiked ridden armor with a flaming sword in his hand. hes standing in front of the throne and pointing sinners down to hell. At his feet is the virgin Mary on her knees begging him to be merciful! This was pretty much the way christianity was depicted in the catholic traddition for quite a while, and given this definitely less than comfortable idea of God, well frankly you cant blaime people for venerating Mary and various saints to interseed on their behalf, and to praying to mary and the saints, sinse fundamentally God was very apart from everything and jesus chief roll in peoples li ves was to consign them to hell.This was one of the things that Martin Luther objected to, hence his idea of salvation by faith. I dont believe modern catholicism has the same emphasis, not from the Catholics Ive met, but its not something Ive asked specifically. I know a fellow who is a catholic Doctor of divinity (and indeed one of those people I talked about being actually holy), Ill ask him about this next time I see him. Somehow, that doesnt sound right, and would go against Christianity itself.Paul also taught in Romans 14 that various people would come to worship God in their own way. Some would say grace before meals, and some would eat without ever doing so, though they should at the very least be thankful to God for providing. Some would eat meat, others would not. Some would eat vegetables, others would not. Some might consider one day more sacred than all the others, while everyone else would probably consider all the days equal. Fasting might be considered by one person and ignored by another, but provided th at they worshiped God in their own way and kept his commandments to the best of their abilities through Christ, it shouldnt matter to you or me how they do it. Other than using boatloads of transparent gradients, I dont see speed issues in interpreted languages becoming much of a problem (and for most of those, most of the work can be saved in images and reused, and thus lag disappears).In BGT, I only ever get lag when I have a ridiculous number of collision checks per frame, and even then I suspect theres some inefficiency in there somewhere I havent been able to track down. So far Ive done nothing sensitive enough that spreading out checks over multiple frames cant help.Yukionozawa did a speed comparison between HSP and BGT shortly after BGT became freeware. I remember BGT being slightly slower (but winning in a different test I dont remember). I wouldnt really expect a significant speed difference between BGT and Python, is what Im saying.< p>(Ill second Camlorn on the indentation thing: Im still focusing mostly on BGT just because its easier to continue with what Ive been using, but Ive had one eye on porting to Python if I get a game strong enough that I can support adding graphics, so Ive been using indentation and placing braces etc such that theyre easy to clean up programmatically. Almost four months in, I still find it a difficult concept that I wrestle with, but that is what he calls us to do. Jesus never promises that its going to be easy, or that our lives won 39;t see turmoil and that we wont be afraid. If he can touch hardened criminals, he can get to your father, and that should be of importance to you, because like it or not, he is still your father, and one of the commandments is that we should honor our parents. It doesnt mean we have to agree with them, or like eve rything they do. it does mean that they are your parents though, and that they do deserve at the very least, your respect, and part of that respect involves your prayers for them, both of them, even your father.I know that right now you are afraid of and resent him because he is not a Christian, yet it is quite possible that God will use you or someone else you pray for as a tool, an instrument that will bring about his salvation. We only see part of the picture; God sees it all. We dont have all of the answers; God does. Do you want clarity? Do you want peace of mind? Do you want comfort? Ask him; hes only a prayer away. I dont think you turned on usb debugging so you will have to use one of those force factory reset programs. If it still says no battery even if its plugged in, its probably not booting propperly. I dont know. And frankly, I dont think it matters. I think just like with friends, people will have a different personal relationship with God. I dont believe that all religions lead to God. I never have and I probably never will... because I dont view christianity as a religion. I think each persons faith in Jesus christ expresses itself in their own ways and through various practices, whether that be through saying masse or corporate worship with clapping and loud singing. But the Jesus is the only true way... it doesnt matter what church you go to if the Jesus they follow is not the true Christ mentioned in the Bible but a Christ either with characteristics changed to suit the denomination or held by other scripture such as the book of mormon.Dark... I would say definitely not all pentecostal churches are like that. At least, mine certainly isnt. The game advertised five hours of gameplay, and I was able to complete it in just under two hours (I did listen to all the cutsceens and descriptions). I personally wish that there had been more focus on the puzzle elements, as I found that the object finding was rather repetitive. One idea I had was that there were more sounds, in which the objects were hidden rather than just moving around, hitting space, then finding the object based on that tone. Apart for that the sound effects and voice acting were extremely well done. Are there any sequels planned? This is one of those programmer knowledge thing. The specific optimization that youre looking for is a data structure called a spatial hash, but its so much easier not to bother and to use ODE or Box2d which implement it plus a bunch of other optimizations and stuff. Re: is coding in python easy? just interested I was thinking in the general direction of a spatial hash myself after the first huge dose of this (it wasnt a spatial hash exactly because I tried to come up with it on my own). Then I decided that was too inconvenient and settled on the memory inefficient technique of using 3D arrays; the objects are still objects, just stored in each tile they overlap. This only works for fixed objects, of course, but 99% of objects are likely to be fixed in most games anyway. This will probably wind up pointless if I try to use Box2D (recreating physics from scratch is just tedious), but for now I think what Im working on can survive on aproximations.(But if I pick up Sonic again? Definitely moving to Box2D. Ive always suspected the original concept was just a physics simulator on a blue ball, then they turned the ball into a hedgehog.) Re: is coding in python easy? just interested Well, the thing with the physics simulators is that you dont have to use them as such. If you so choose, just plug in your shapes and ask if they collide. If you dont tick it, it doesnt simulate. This may not be true of Box2d, but it is true of ode and some others.What youre actually describing is voxels. In that case, converting the voxels to a trimesh and culling the triangles that form surfaces between voxels can quite possibly be efficient (even more so if you divide it into multiple trimeshes intelligently). If you are using Ode for collision and simulation, it looks like you have to do this (I havent tried) because Ode apparently has problems with flush edges. If you only want to use Ode for collision, make each voxel a 1x1x1 meter geom, and use their spatial hash (you will get multiple contact points when the player is on an edge but, because the simulation isnt being handled by Ode, its not going to literally explode). trying to make a sidescroller that is accessible and workable with Box2d being used for *all* simulation is on my to-do list, simply because it would be moving us away from the discrete tile approach. In addition, it can handle proper simulation of things like bullets; that is, objects that have velocities so high that they move multiple lengths in one tick. Perhaps even more fun, it can handle ricochet, though using this for gameplay purposes is probably not doable in a side-scroller (it might be in a first-person game, however). Also, that possibly means wall jumps.And this thread just went very off topic. It has come to our attention that there is a newly recognized problem with our Traders of Known Space game where jaws isnt losing keyboard access when focus is on the TKS window, so JAWS is introducing strange sluggishness to the arrow keys and saying selected and such as that when it didnt used to.It appears after hours of slogging through windows updates one by one that a windows 8 and 8.1 update has broken the bgt keyboard hook that allowed us in the past to have games be playable with jaws running without the need to set jaws to go to sleep. The knowledge base number for this update is kb2973201. If you have been playing TKS and notice extra sluggishness. the easiest fix is to sleep or shut down the screen reader as is necessary in most other games, or try uninstalling this particular update. At the moment, we have no idea if or when this problem will be solved. At the moment, we are only aware of this issue in windows 8 and 8.1. FMOD is more widely used, but it depends if youre an independant and have a license, or if your employer has a wide-development license. It has nothing to do with the early church at all, but receiving the true gospel message, the true Christ, that they were concerned with. As Nocturnus has eloquently stated Christianity isnt about how one worships but the persons individual relationship with God and Jesus. Beyond that everything else is secondary.This may surprise you, but even during the first century there were heretical churches, groups of Christians, whom were teaching false doctrines that the apostles like John and Paul were trying to warn their congregations about. I cant remember the exact verses off the top of my head, but there are passages where the biblical authors came out and stated that there were false prophets, false ministers of Christ, and to be aware of wolves in sheeps clothing already. So false doctrines and false teachers have been around since the very be ginning of the Christian movement.Actually, I might go as far to say that they proceeded it. I dont know how much of Israels history you have studied, but before Jesus was supposed to have been born there were people claiming to be the Messiah. The fact of the matter was before, during, and after Christs ministry there were all kinds of people claiming to be Messiah, the Christ, and it is to these false christs and teachers that the apostles were most likely talking about in the scriptures. Although, they could just as equally apply to modern false prophets etc as well.The point is you dont need to obsess over who is restoring the early church, nor do you need to obsessively compare the way people worship. Thats not important. The important thing which has been made clear through scripture is that you have received the true Christ. thats the main thing you need to focus on at this point. Two Mac Questions Hi all. I got a Mac from an auction site, and it is still loaded with content: apps, some files, and God knows how many saved passcodes. So, how do I erase all content, settings, and the like? I will say I do lack a disk, and am not likely to buy one.The second item is how do I import my iPods music? I see options to Sync, but nothing about importing music, apps, and podcasts. Transfer purchases does not accomplish this task. Accidentally muted Entombed, how to access sound menu First of all, let me do a brief introduction. Hello people, my name is Nac. I am a computer programmer and computer games aficionado.A few hours ago I downloaded Entombed (demo), and playing with the menu I muted the game. I am not entirely sure what I changed, but the game is no longer producing voice audio. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, but the problem persists. Well the file size of the zip file is 80,7 megabyte, I try downloading it several times. And I can tell you, it cant be damaged because I am able to view the files in the package. Can you look on the mac version please?
