Everyone,
I have a use with a Bold 9700 who will not activate. I tried all the
standard troubleshooting to no avail. The following shows up in the
event log on the server. We are running 4.1.6 in an Excvhange 2003
environment. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you I need to regenerate the
Did you confirm with the phone vendor that the phone is properly
provisioned? Did you do message tracking to confirm that the email
from RIM is getting delivered into the users mailbox?

The BB Bold is a PITA for BES. I usually end up having to set up Blackberry
Desktop Manager on the user's PC (must have Outlook configured on it) and
setting it up manually. When you do it should automatically ask you to
generate a new encryption key. If it does not the setting is under
We are on BES 5.0, Exchange 2003 and I’m running device 5.0 and you have the
option under Email Settings “Send Read Receipts”, Yes, No or Prompt. Doesn’t
look like you can initiate the request from your BB just from Outlook.

The odd thing is the phone is brand new and did work for a while then
stopped. We are trying to reprovision it and can't. The user is getting
the RIM message in his outlook mailbox. It is fine from the carrier
perspective.

I am working from home and the user does not have BBDT Manager. Is there
another way to generate a new encryption key?

That's odd wiping didn't work. I called RIM before because nothing was
getting caught up in our SPAM filter. After wiping the user was able to
activate on BES.

Just throwing a quick question out there to anyone running a pair of BES 5.0
servers in an Active/Standby config. Do you find it reliable? I've seen more
problems in three months than I ever saw in three years with BES 4.1.6.
Wondering whether to revert back to a single server configuration
I am going to try it again. thanks

Here's my troubleshooting steps for activation problems:
1st thing I do is assign a static agent to the BES user account. This seems to
speed up the activation process. YMMV.
Using the Enterprise Activation Readiness tool, confirm that the device is
correctly provisioned by the carrier.
I am having issues activating too. Any known problems?

We've been getting a lot of warranty/damage replacements from Verizon
lately that will not activate without first wiping. I think the store
techs are trying to do our users a favor and trying to restore contacts,
etc., as if they were regular phones.
