As I recall...
The nearby (MSWE) transmissions would interfere with the Coast Guard HF
maritime transmissions

Unescorted access to base requires a TWIC (Transportation Worker
Identification Credential) card. It only costs$125 and may take six weeks
to obtain.
Any refinery with maritime access requires a worker to obtain

Ravi, I don't think there is any HT of any brand that will do what you want. I
have a Kenwood TH-F6 and it certainly will not. I am definitely not a Yaesu
guy, but I would prefer any Japanese transceiver to one from China. I would
recommend that you not plan on any rubber duck to repeater

I would like the board and members to consider honoring Frosty's memory

about to click "buy" on a new radio from HRO, and decided to take

I thought that Glen WB5TUF had plans to install a System Fusion repeater.
I don't recall the outcome.
Me, I don't run any of them, nor do I have any interest. Call me again
when they all settle on one protocol. Now, HF digital voice is another
story. One protocol (completely ignoring the fact
They can't very well disregard the sales tax because to be right with the law,
you must remit it even when you buy out of state. What you can do is balance
the tax with the shipping charge and get the hands on benefit but Dallas is
still about 280 miles away unless you need to go there anyway.

Thanks Glenn, Michael, Cookie - excellent information, and excellent

I totally agree about the shortcomings of rubber duckies on HTs. The
folks I bushwhack, etc. with, we all use HTs to keep in touch, so it's
all about simplex. My Baofengs have served that function perfectly to
Tnx for the update info. Guess things change rapidly per discounts. As I recall
the person wanted a hi end tuner so they marked it as close out discount and
shipped it.
maybe someone got a hand slap at HRO for doing that

Ravi, I would have suggested the even less expensive unlicensed CB HTs that are
available most everywhere and need no license at all. I really no nothing
about the Baofengs but it is all antenna and power. The Kenwood which was much
more expensive will not hit a repeater from the boonies, and
I miss the IRLP user access we had on the old machine

Friends,
Ok, I'll go ahead and open a can-o-worms: The radio I'm buying happens to be a
Yaesu FT1DR.
The main reason I'm buying is because I want a new V/U dual-band HT that will
be rugged enough for EMCOMM work, as well as the off-roading, backcountry
backpacking, and mountaineering I do.
Bill Stone and I spent a Sunday last year checking out all the alternatives. I
did not document it well because I did not intend to be involved this year, but
the messages this year remind me of what I did not remember. I have also
contacted the American Undersea Warfare Board of Directors and
