Last night, for the second night in a row, I was able to spot at minimum two
(2) SHORT-EARED OWLS at the Airport.
They were seen at varying times and distances, foraging over the fallow fields
within the confines of the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport, as viewed

I hope everyone is aware already, but I thought I'd mention here that
several Short-eared Owls, up to 4-5 individuals, have been seen foraging
over the runways at the Ithaca-Tompkins airport, usually just before 6pm
from about the middle of Snyder Road. They don't come out every night, but
2 Owls on Johnson Rd. In Phelps Township tonight around 5:05 pm.

Last night, Joe Wetmore and I watched 5 short-eared owls plying the fields
on both sides of Lake Road leading west from Long Point Winery, just south
of Aurora. We spotted the first one around 5 pm. So graceful, and the white
of their wings flashing brilliantly.

At Long Point winery above East side Cayuga Lake yesterday evening. Friend Bill
& I saw one close by in field off Lg Pt Rd bouncing around in tall grass -
taking short flights over grass then landing again, several times. It stood
tall in grass looking around giving good binoc views of its face.
I found four SHORT-EARED OWLS hunting the fields near the Seybolt/Airport Rd.

On our way back from Montezuma this afternoon, Joe Wetmore and I took a
quick detour down Lake Rd towards Long Point Winery to look for short-eared

I saw one in the wing at about 1530 today, over fields just south of Aurora off
NYS Rte 90. I and others have seen SEOs there many times in the past over the
years.

After these first few owls flew by the buildings on Morgan Road (they didn't
come out until about 5:45), Scott Haber, Susan Newman and I decided to head
down to the distant birds near Carncross Road, where we could see birds
fighting with each other and perching from afar.

Finally made it up to Morgan Road today on the way home from Oswego. About 18
folks were gathered to view the possible evening's flight. After several
distant possibilities and half the group leaving for Carncross Road, we headed

you see Northern Harriers, you see Short-eared Owls. There were none of
either species. There was lots of corn in the fields. I think the owls like

Mary Jean called me 3 times today, all in the neighborhood of 5pm. First she
and Emma, our 3 year old granddaughter, saw 3 short-eared owls on Wycoff Rd
just west of Rock River Rd. Then minutes later 2 owls on Wycoff Rd just east
of Rock River Rd, followed by 1 near the intersection of Wycoff
Have a great club trip on Saturday. Knowing you, it will be and I know the SE
Owls know it too and will obey. I wish I could come.

I've been seeing, very regularly, 3 short-eared owls on Wycoff Road in Ovid.
This evening, however, there were 4. These owls are quite vocal and it is a
real treat to see them and hear them. Wycoff Road is between Hall Road and
Rock River. Park on Wycoff, just east of Rock River, and look east. T

raptors and owls. Van Dyne Spoor Road has been plowed to where the

fence post - the light was perfect to see the color differences of
