Re: Keystore SSL Validation Nightmare

2006-12-11 Thread James Buckingham
Thanks again Mark,

Well the certificates are appearing if I request the aliases through keytools
-list. Is there any way of checking that I've installed them correctly or is it
a case of, if they appear in the security/cacert that's them installed?

Cheers,
James

James,

Yes, I would agree with you - it looks like you are able to resolve
all-right.

Have you managed to get the cert into your keystore correctly? Also, there
is an issue with JVM versions... I wrote a blurb on it.

http://www.coldfusionmuse.com/index.cfm/2006/11/2/keystore.JVM.Workaraound

I don't know if that's your issue though

Download riva, and then figure out what commands need to be run (you can
check the batch file that riva generates), it basically uses ffmpeg and
flvtool to create flash 7 compatible flv...

 No, but as long as you can do the conversion from the command line,
 you can run the same command with cfexecute. You'll want to worry
 about file sizes and conversion times though. That's a task that is
 pretty strenuous on a processor.

 I'd suggest batching them late at night with a system task rather than
 coldfsuion.

 I want to allow users to upload video files which I will then convert
 automatically to .flv files. If I have a copy of quicktime pro with
 the FLV QuickTime Export plug-in installed on the server, is it
 possible to do this using CF to manage the uploads and conversion?
 Anyone done anything like this?

Well, you could do it simply based on your image name. IE: rename your
images based on days in a month 1-31 and then pull your image based on what
day it is. I am sure someone on here can find a more sexy way, but this is
one way. You can also do it yearly using dayOfYear() if you have that many

least 31 images for the months that have 31 days. Or you could do it like so
if you do not want to keep track of your image count.

cfquery dbtype=query name=images
select * from getimages

cfif images.recordCount gt 0

RE: Printing Mailing Labels Advice Needed

2006-12-11 Thread Ben Nadel
Rick,

Don't wrap the output around 30 addresses. Just have a cfoutput loop
with a single address inside. If you look at the HTML its probably just
some table template. Then, just add the appropriate end row / start row
if needed:

table
tr
cfoutput query=qLabel

td./td

cfif
  (NOT (qLabel.CurrentRow MOD 3)) AND
  (qLabel.CurrentRow LT qLabel.RecordCount)

  /trtr
/cfif

/cfoutput
/tr
/table

This way, your query will make much more sense. In this example, I am
assuming there are 3 labels across (MOD 3).

Subject: Printing Mailing Labels Advice Needed

Hi, gang.

I'm using MS Word to setup the HTML for printing mailing labels, then
inserting a query into the HTML for getting my addresses.

The addresses are 30 per page. I'm using CFOUTPUT Query = to output
the info.

In the HTML, I put the variables, #First_Name#, etc.

Problem:

The CFOUTPUT Query is wrapped around 30 labels at a time and I'm trying
to figure out how to work the query or either the CFOUTPUT to output one
address per label instead of one address on all 30 labels.

I solved this before, but can't remember how I did it and now I can't
find the code.

Would something like using #get_addresses.first_name[1]# solve the
problem?

Other advice?

Thanks,

Rick

PS - Remember CF 4.5 here. :o) (Still making money off that old
software)

Subject: ImageCFC 2.0 Released

I've completed imageCFC version 2.0

Numerous changes since beta 3... and unfortunately some of the changes
will break your code if you're using image.cfc 2.0 beta.

http://www.opensourcecf.com/imagecfc

NEW (REAL) DOCUMENTATION!
http://www.opensourcecf.com/imagecfc/docs/imageCFC.cfm

This release includes a few bug changes plus the following changes:

  o readImage() and writeImage() are now public methods.

  o writeImage() method writes to temp directory and then uses
cffile to move image to its final destination. This corrects
a known issue where resizing an image down and saving it to
the same file did not actually reduce the physical file size.

  o changed scaleX() to scaleWidth()

  o changed scaleY() to scaleHeight()

  o Added optional preserveAspect argument to resize() method
(allowing you to resize an image to fit within a certain width
and height without messing with the aspect ratio)

o You can turn text antialiasing on and off, or change the
interpolation mode now using the setOption() method.

  o WROTE REAL API DOCUMENTATION!

There are a variety of other fixes and minor enhancements. Please see
the full change log on the site for details.

coldfusion and java arrays

2006-12-11 Thread Rick Root
I'm trying to use a java method that required an array of floats as one
of its arguments.

However, a coldfusion array is not a java array, it's actually an
instance of coldfusion.runtime.Array

I found a post by Christian Cantrell about this and how
coldfusion.runtime.Array is actually an extension of java.lang.Vector
and so you can call toArray() on it to return an array.

However, when I try this route, I get:

Unable to find a constructor for class java.awt.image.Kernel
that accepts parameters of type ( java.lang.Integer,
java.lang.Integer, [Ljava.lang.Object; ).

Here's the code in question:

blurArray = arrayNew(1);
for (i=1; i lte 9; i = i + 1)
{
arrayAppend(blurArray, javacast(float,blurAmount));
}
kernel = createObject(java,java.awt.image.Kernel);
kernel.init(img.getWidth(), img.getHeight(), blurArray.toArray());

if I call blurArray.toArray().getClass().getName() it returns

[Ljava.lang.Object

Anyone got any ideas how to deal with this?

Rick

RE: Printing Mailing Labels Advice Needed

2006-12-11 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, Ben...

I tried creating my own page with the approach you described
as my first attempt at printing labels... couldn't get the things
to line up properly.

I finally went to Word to create the HTML for labels for me
and decided to try to loop the entire page so as to not disrupt
the alignment.

I did get a solution worked up looping the entire 30-label page.

I first setup a variable to control the row count used when the
query loops the page: CFSET StartRow = 1

Then, I use CFOUTPUT Query= Get_Addresses,

Then just make each label like so (minus a lot of code):

#Get_Addresses.First_Name[StartRow]#, etc.

Second address uses:

#Get_Addresses.First_Name[StartRow+1], etc.

Then at the end of the 30-label page, I use:

CFSET StartRow = StartRow + 30

and print labels 31 - 60.

It's working fine so far... however, I'll probably go back at some point
and see if I can get away with the method you described without
breaking the printing alignment.

Thanks for your response!

Rick,

Don't wrap the output around 30 addresses. Just have a cfoutput loop
with a single address inside. If you look at the HTML its probably just
some table template. Then, just add the appropriate end row / start row
if needed:

table
tr
cfoutput query=qLabel

td./td

cfif
  (NOT (qLabel.CurrentRow MOD 3)) AND
  (qLabel.CurrentRow LT qLabel.RecordCount)

  /trtr
/cfif

/cfoutput
/tr
/table

This way, your query will make much more sense. In this example, I am
assuming there are 3 labels across (MOD 3).

Subject: Printing Mailing Labels Advice Needed

Hi, gang.

I'm using MS Word to setup the HTML for printing mailing labels, then
inserting a query into the HTML for getting my addresses.

The addresses are 30 per page. I'm using CFOUTPUT Query = to output
the info.

In the HTML, I put the variables, #First_Name#, etc.

Problem:

The CFOUTPUT Query is wrapped around 30 labels at a time and I'm trying
to figure out how to work the query or either the CFOUTPUT to output one
address per label instead of one address on all 30 labels.

I solved this before, but can't remember how I did it and now I can't
find the code.

Would something like using #get_addresses.first_name[1]# solve the
problem?

Other advice?

Thanks,

Rick

PS - Remember CF 4.5 here. :o) (Still making money off that old
software)

WOOT! Beta

2006-12-11 Thread Adam Churvis
Folks,

We're going into Beta on a multi-user project estimation, time tracking, and
analysis application, and we're looking for a few dedicated souls to bang on it
and report back their findings and opinions.

Briefly, the name of the application is WOOT!, and it's going to go for only
$99 a seat when it's released in January. WOOT! will make your projects more
profitable by preventing billable time from falling through the cracks,
producing more complete and accurate estimates for your customers, and
discovering problem areas in your project pricing. The WOOT! Desktop Client
stays resident in your system tray and typically takes only two clicks to track
work sessions. The WOOT! Database runs on SQL Server 2005 (either the free
Express version or any production version) and is highly scalable. WOOT!
requires the .NET Framework 2.0, which is a free download from Microsoft.

If you're interested then please email me *offline* at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
give me an idea of how many systems you can run the WOOT! Desktop Client on and
for how long you can test it during the Beta period, which ends on December
31st.

The first twenty Beta testers who send us feedback will receive free one-year
licenses to WOOT! when it is released in January. The top ten Beta testers who
distinguish themselves with outstanding feedback will receive free permanent
licenses to WOOT!.

whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

I have read a lot about people making their own objectFactory and I
still don't see the need for one. Can some one please give me a reason

understanding makes me think it is just adding more code than is
required.

Re: whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

2006-12-11 Thread Adrian
The real benefits I have found are:

1)
Objects are initialised in one place only, so if the init arguments change,
then I only need to change one piece of code.

2)
Objects are created in one place only, so if the location of the component
changes, then I only need to change one piece of code.

3)
Less code!

application.myfactory.getInstance()

is less code than

The name of the session was:

The error was:

heh

Of course, reading it with array notation should solve it but I'm curious as
to why his session names are that long and have '-' in them?

Mine are much shorter and never contain '-'. Here's an example of mine:
testing_1716_38565808

At first, I thought that, somehow, a uuid() was getting appended to the end
somehow, and it probably is but everything BEFORE that is also somewhat
longer. Is there a setting somewhere to cause that?

I see where you can use a UUID for the cftoken in the administrator but that
still doesn’t make the session name that long.

Re: UPS API

2006-12-11 Thread Mary Jo Sminkey
I have seen some people posting questions about the ups xml and I am
wondering if anyone has resolved this. I now have a customer that wants to
incorporate this. The problem here is that when I try to signup for an
account I need to have a ups account which I dont. This is really annoying,
does anyone know of a way to test the API without opening an account?

I don't think so, they made me create an account as well, which is really
annoying since I don't do shipping, I'm just a software developer. And signing
up for an account required providing them with a credit card and CVV2 code,
which I learned they do keep stored...I was not happy.

Re: whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

2006-12-11 Thread Josh Nathanson
I am just working through OOP stuff myself...

Regarding the object factory, would you have a separate factory for each
object, say the object was User, like UserFactory? So if you were
instantiating a User and then populating the bean from the db, (assuming all
the obvious stuff, your classes are init'd into the Application scope etc.)
the call would be

cfset tempUser = Application.UserFactory.getInstance()
cfset myUser = Application.UserDAO.read(tempUser)

Or is there another best practice for handling a factory?

Also, what is the generally accepted way to init your classes into the
Application scope, is this just done in App.cfm or App.cfc? Thanks for any
guidance.

Could it  be this query?

Ya, they wanted to run a credit check as well.. Im a little suprised that

 annoying,
 does anyone know of a way to test the API without opening an account?

 I don't think so, they made me create an account as well, which is really
 annoying since I don't do shipping, I'm just a software developer. And
 signing up for an account required providing them with a credit card and
 CVV2 code, which I learned they do keep stored...I was not happy.

Re: whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

2006-12-11 Thread Aaron Roberson
 Also, what is the generally accepted way to init your classes into the
 Application scope, is this just done in App.cfm or App.cfc? Thanks for any
 guidance.

I am not one to give guidance since I am new to all this myself,
but... I don't use an object factory. Instead I init all of my
services, gateways and DAOs in Application.cfm. This provides the same
benefits Adrian mentioned for using object factories (there are
probably other benefits to using object factories that my approach
does not benefit from).

I have also chosen to place Application.cfm files in each directory.
That way I am only initting objects that will be used in that
directories files. If all of my objects for the entire application
were initted in one Application.cfm there would a rather long delay
when someone first visits the site.

On the other hand, Phill Nacelli has created an object factory that
looks pretty good. I was going to use it but he took a while to post
an explanation about it on his blog and I had to continue developing
my application so... maybe next time. He has since blogged about it
here:
http://www.phillnacelli.net/blog/index.cfm/2006/11/21/ObjectFactory-Explained

 worth a try:
 http://www.pgadmin.org/

pgAdmin III comes installed out of the box with PostgreSQL and I
cannot figure out how to create tables using it either. At least in
phpPgAdmin I can write SQL directly to create tables, but phpMyAdmin
has UI features for creating tables.

I would prefer using phpPgAdmin since I am so familiar with
phpMyAdmin. However, if I went to work for a company that used
PostgreSQL with anything other than PHP I could bet that they wouldn't
use phpPgAdmin.

Re: What's the name of that CF server...

2006-12-11 Thread Barney Boisvert
To be fair, if you're using CFML as a view-layer technology, none of
that's needed or even wanted. Your view should basically be
translating a predefined model into whatever end form is needed (HTML,
usually). Custom tags are perfectly sufficient for that tasks, and if
you ask me, the preferable mechanism.

It's only if you're using CFML for the whole application stack that
those limitations will be hugely crippling. Though it wasn't until
CF6 that we had them in ColdFusion itself, and there are a lot of
applications out there that predate that release.

This isn't to say that Smith is good or bad (or anything else), just
that a feature-for-feature comparison is only valid if the target use
cases are the same. If Smith is designed as an alternative view layer
for J2EE applications (instead of JSP, Velocity, or whatever), having
those features be omitted is actually a selling point.

OT: CSS Horizontal Centering in IE7

2006-12-11 Thread Matt Quackenbush
Well, I'm finally getting around to see what all IE7 has broken in my
various CSS websites. I was rather surprised to find out that horizontal
centering is on the list. For instance, the following does not render
properly in IE7:

body {
   margin: 0 auto;
}

While that *should* have no top/bottom margin, and the body centered on the
screen, in IE7 it is now aligned left. I've searched around google to see
if I could find any articles regarding this, but have yet to do so. So, if
you've run across this and have already found/figured out what IE7 wants to
see in order to behave properly, can you please post it? I'm sure there are
quite a few people (myself included) who would be most appreciative!

Thanks,

Matt

CF Dedicated hosting

2006-12-11 Thread Mehdi, Agha
All,

I am looking for recommendations on a hosting provider for dedicated CF
7.0 enabled server. My budget is roughly $200/month +- $50. I am hoping
something that can support at least 25k-50k hits and outgoing emails a
day. Access to CF admin is the most important feature with the ability
to host multiple instances.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RE: CSS Horizontal Centering in IE7

2006-12-11 Thread Sandra Clark
You need a width in there.

Another CSS Rule

Everything needs to be 100% of the parent, in any case where stuff isn't
defined, CSS will always make margin-right large enough to accommodate 100%
of the parent. In this case the parent is html.
If using auto, then whatever the difference is will be split between margin
left and margin right. Providing that is, that width is declared.

body{
  width: 80%;
  margin: 0 auto;
}
Also equivalent

body{
 width: 80%;
 margin: 0 10%;
}

By posting that though, does that indicate that you are using the strict

I do all my work in application.cfm file as well. I load the 7 or 8
objects I need and I'm done with it. I just don't see how there code
be a speed benefit.

Why would I want to load an object into the application scope just to
load more objects? This is one more piece of code that has to be ran,
maintained, suck up processes, suck up memory, to explain Wouldn't
it be best to just keep it simple and call right to the CFC?

I don't know what is right or wrong when it comes to objectFactories.
That is why I am asking the question.

On 12/11/06, Aaron Roberson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 probably other benefits to using object factories that my approach
 does not benefit from).

I'd really like an open source CFML parser for some of my smaller clients.

Sandra,

I have the width in there; was just posting minimal code since I know how
much I hate to wade thru a bunch of superflous code. Here is the actual CSS
rule as written:

html, body {
margin: 0 auto;
text-align: center;
width: 760px;
min-width: 760px;
}

Thanks,

Matt

 Another CSS Rule

 Everything needs to be 100% of the parent, in any case where stuff isn't
 defined, CSS will always make margin-right large enough to accommodate
 100%
 of the parent. In this case the parent is html.
 If using auto, then whatever the difference is will be split between
 margin
 left and margin right. Providing that is, that width is declared.

 body{
   width: 80%;
   margin: 0 auto;
 }
 Also equivalent

 body{
 width: 80%;
 margin: 0 10%;
 }

That's helful so now I'm faced with this:

r += f * ((rgb  16)  0xff);

now:

somevar = BitSHRN(rgb, 16);
r = r + somevar  0xff;

I'm guessing that's a bitAnd ... so maybe this would work:

r = r + bitAnd(somevar,255);

 I had someone ask me a question today about an error message they were
 getting when trying to read a session.

 The name of the session was:
 mydemoweb_1558129_973910d81ad1363a-56F3C720-DA19-CB22-E5857B8E076CF998

 The error was:
 56F3C720, is not a valid identifer name. Yes, that is how 'Identifier'
is
 spelled in the CF error message :-) So I'm not the only person who typos!!
 heh

 Of course, reading it with array notation should solve it but I'm curious
as
 to why his session names are that long and have '-' in them?

 Mine are much shorter and never contain '-'. Here's an example of mine:
 testing_1716_38565808

 At first, I thought that, somehow, a uuid() was getting appended to the
end
 somehow, and it probably is but everything BEFORE that is also somewhat
 longer. Is there a setting somewhere to cause that?

 I see where you can use a UUID for the cftoken in the administrator but
that
 still doesn't make the session name that long.

RE: whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

2006-12-11 Thread Ben Nadel
I think the issue is not up-front object instantiation. That is simple.
The beauty of the Object factory I think is that at any time down the
road, any part of the application that has access to the object factory
can request object instantiation without having to know how it is done.
This cannot be done via the Application.cfc unless it was a component
method of the Application.cfc.

Why would I want to load an object into the application scope just to
load more objects? This is one more piece of code that has to be ran,

it be best to just keep it simple and call right to the CFC?

I don't know what is right or wrong when it comes to objectFactories.
That is why I am asking the question.

 probably other benefits to using object factories that my approach
 does not benefit from).

 I have also chosen to place Application.cfm files in each directory.
 That way I am only initting objects that will be used in that

 On the other hand, Phill Nacelli has created an object factory that

html.

I think the idea is that as long as you have sufficient RAM, a call to the
Application scope will always be quicker than than a call to the CFC. If
you have a gig of RAM dedicated to CF, a few MB of objects is negligible.
If your RAM is an issue, it's probably fine to call right to the CFC.

Also Adrian gave a few good reasons to take the objectFactory approach: the
main one being you are re-using code rather than duplicating code in
different places.

If you have an application which requires Flash 8+ to run but your

Or if you have a Flex2 application which requires Flash Player 9+ with
same situation.

What would you suggest to your client?

 What does it matter??  lol!

Oh... even though you ask one dumb question right after another daily... I
forget you are on this list sometimes and forget to explain how
conversations work... you have to read the REST of the posts to follow it...

Re: UPS API

2006-12-11 Thread Will Tomlinson
I'm using the shipping calculator and address validator now.
The calculator was a cfc I bought off communitymx.com, and I got the address
validation code off easycfm.com, then converted it to a cfc.

All was easy and works great!

RE: What's the name of that CF server...

2006-12-11 Thread Rick Faircloth
Another attractive option to Adobe CF is Coral Web Builder
from pcaonline.com.

It has more features than CF 4.5 (don't they all!) but not as many
as Adobe CF 7. However, it does support UDFs

It seems to have some advanced features and an upcoming release,
(perhaps it's the current version) will support CFC's... however, I won't
be using CFC's for the immediate future. I've got too much work to
do right now to slow down and work on a new dev style.

Something else to consider, too... as far as support goes... I emailed
the Coral Web Builder folks and asked about the lack of ParseDateTime
functionality, which I require. I got an email back in a few minutes saying
that if it would help produce a sale ($225 for Coral Web Builder) they would
add that functionality at NO CHARGE. Trying getting something like that
from Adobe!

No server licenses, either... just purchase one $225 single developer
license.

Plus, I can distribute the CF app on CD at no charge, for training programs,
and stand-alone apps for my clients who would like CF running in-house for
the apps I build. That removes the problem of the cost of setting up a
server
with CF for clients who need it running in-house instead of across the
Internet
for office applications.

Very attractive...

Anyone using or tried Coral Web Builder?

Rick

Good point. And I haven't given up on Smith. Actually, the moment I saw
their website I emailed them to give them encouragement, and to find out
if there was a way (other than having to remember to check their website
every so often) that I could keep up with their progress. I received
nothing in return, but my hopes for it aren't dashed entirely. :o)

I'd really like an open source CFML parser for some of my smaller clients.

Chris

Query count problem

2006-12-11 Thread Mike | NZSolutions Ltd
Hi guys,

I have the following tables...

Media, media_image, media_file

The relationship between the media table and the other two is a
one-to-many relationship. I wish to query the media table and show a
count of any associated images/files. What I have so far is...

(NOTE: using MSACCESS)

cfquery name=getMedia datasource=#Request.App.dsn#
password=#Request.App.DBpassword# username=#Request.App.DBusername#
SELECT media.media_id, media.dCreated, media.dModified,
media.media_title, media.media_description, media.enclosure,
COUNT(media_image.media_image_id) AS image_count,
COUNT(media_file.media_file_id) AS file_count
FROM (media LEFT OUTER JOIN media_image ON media.media_id =
media_image.media_id)
LEFT OUTER JOIN media_file ON media.media_id = media_file.media_id
WHERE 1=1
cfif isDefined(arguments.media_id)
AND media.media_id = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer
value=#arguments.media_id#
/cfif
GROUP BY media.media_id, media.dCreated, media.dModified,
media.media_title, media.media_description, media.enclosure
ORDER BY media.dCreated DESC
/cfquery

At moment it is giving duplicate results for image_count and file_count.

Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?

Thanks heaps!

mike

Re: whats the purpose of an objectFactory?

2006-12-11 Thread Aaron Roberson
Another reason why I did not use an object factory is because I noted
the fact that you have to register all the DAO's, gateways and beans
with the full path in Application.cfm. It seemed just as easy to
instantiate all of my objects directly in Application.cfm and assign
them to the application scope. With my current method I am still only
setting the path in one place. I can also reference all of my objects
from any part of the application that is in the same directory as
Application.cfm without having to know how it is instantiated.

However, I think that Phill's ObjectFactory.cfc does not instantiate
the objects when registered in Application.cfm. Instead, I believe
that all of the details are placed in a struct that can be be
referenced at any time. The advantage of this would be that the
objects are not instantiated until they are actually used. You still
get the benefit of having only one copy of the object in memory and
you do not have to use a full path to the object when instantiating it
in the view or controller.

If that is the case, I just talked myself into using Phill's
ObjectFactory.cfc. The benefit over my current method would be that
the objects are not instantiated until they are used. Even if a
request to instantiate the object is made several times across several
pages, there is still only one copy of the object in memory because
complex objects are passed by reference.
