This is the Colorado Rare Bird Alert for Sunday, April 24, 2011, updated at
4:40 AM, sponsored by Denver Field
After a remarkably Finchless season, we finally had 6-7 Cassin's at our feeder
this weekend. We generally have them all winter, but like the Pine Siskins
(also returned several weeks ago), they have been absent.
In Evergreen at 7700 feet.

On 23 Apr, 4:00PM Rick Taylor was out looking for the reported Short-
Eared Owl. No luck, but he was able to spot a Burrowing Owl amongst
the Prairie Dogs. On the N-S road to the west of the reservoir, scan
the ground about 100 yards from the fence line. The Owl hops around
looking for grubs.
Hi all,
I birded Twin Lakes in the Gunbarrel area of Boulder this morning. The only
unusual sighting was of a phoebe that looked pretty much like your typical
Eastern Phoebe, but sang a very odd song that in many ways resembled the
hybrid songs of Black x Eastern Phoebes. I recorded a couple
Hey all,
This report is from yesterday, but since I didn't see anything too odd I didn't
rush posting it. I visited Last Chance rest area which was pretty dead overall.
There were good numbers of Townsend's Solitaires and 2 Hermit Thrushes.
Prewitt Reservoir had good numbers of breeding birds

As far as I know, the Blackburnian has not been re-found. I was down there for
an hour myself with no luck. The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER is still kicking
around, as well as a few things like a HERMIT THRUSH and a MERLIN. Other than
that it was pretty slow.

Today we had some pretty stunning birds around Ft. Collins. Even
though it is Easter and I have a hairline fracture in my leg we
continued with our Easter birding tradition.

Hi COBirders,
FOS Broad-tailed hummer (female) just now - with still a little snow on the
ground.
Also our four White-crowned Sparrows are all grown up now, having
transitioned out of the brown plumage over the last 6 weeks. Looking very
dapper.
Hope for good weather tomorrow (or at least
A Lincoln's sparrow has been foraging under my feeder on Lac Amora Park the
last 2 days, along with a juvenile and several adult and white-crowned
sparrows and some chipping sparrows. The spotted towhees appear to have
finally left, but one junco is still hanging on. Yesterday there were 3

Birders,
Peter Gent has found an adult BLACK-THROATED SPARROW at the CU tennis courts,
south of Table Mesa, west of highway 36. At the moment (2pm), it's directly
adjacent to the SW corner or the tennis courts.
