Re: [CGUYS] epson workforce 610
I know that many of us (Except a few on this list) are constrained by budgets when we choose computer accessories. But I have found that when I buy a budget printer I get exactly what I paid for. The Workforce line from Epson is supposed to be pretty good. Also look at the HP office jet line. The L series is extremely good. Duplexing, networking etc. Plus it uses multiple cartridges (4 color) not AIO color carts. I bought a L7650 this summer for just over $100, it was a refurb. I have been extremely pleased with it, plus I got an extra paper tray for $25 and put it on. Their newer series is 8500 series. Look closely and figure out how much you really want to pay for this printer. Spend a little more and get what you need, you are investing money in this thing. You want one that will last a few years. Check Epsons and see what they have in refurbs. the RX700 I bought was a refurb, and it sold for over 200 new but I paid just over 100 and free shipping from Epson. Check HP's refurbs (I have found their prices are usually not a great deal.) Finally check out www.compgeek.com for refurb printers. Most of all read reviews of any printer you want to buy FIRST. You will be reading real peoples reactions to these printers. Look long and hard before you leap. Stewart At 10:22 PM 1/11/2010, you wrote: Talk to others first and read reviews. Re: [CGUYS] Canon i9900 prints reds and pinks where gray should be.
rocky lee wrote: I have a Canon i9900 that is printing reds and pinks where it should be printing grays. I tried flipping and switching color space and profiles, but what it came down to was paper selection. If 'plain' paper is chosen, the colors print pretty close to what I see. If any other choice of paper, photo, photo glossy, photo matte, etc. is selected, the images get a rose colored tint. I suspected a bad color profile, but then I switched the printer to another computer and it repeated the tinting. On plain paper, it was fine. On the others, the color was skewed. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks, Rocky Did you simply switch paper (only), did you switch the media type in the properties section without changing paper, or did you match the media type with the actual paper being printed upon? If the media type doesn't match the kind of paper in the printer, a slight change in color may be expected. If the color change is large, then probably the print head needs cleaning. Use the maintenance section of the printer properties to print first a nozzle check, then followed by cleaning or deep cleaning if warranted. You may have to clean several times before more drastic action is required. The nozzle check will surely tell you if the print head is clogged. If not clogged, or the colors appear right on the nozzle check then suspect some other problem than the nozzle. There is a possibility that something else is wrong with the printer other than the nozzle, either hardware or software. Investigate this before proceeding. If the printer is under warranty, try to get a replacement from Canon. Be sure to remove all non-Canon ink cartridges and replace with Canon cartridges before taking/sending for warranty repair. If not under warranty, you will have to remove the print head and clean. Observe how it fits in the tray so that you can replace it after removal. Do the removal as a last resort, and be gentle.Try a bottle of compressed air first; don't blow too close to the print head, and blow into the nozzles from the nozzle side, not the ink side. Replace & see if the problem is fixed. If needed soak the print head by putting several paper towels, folded, on a plate and wet them well with water. Place the nozzle area onto the towels and let them soak for one or two hours. Let head dry completely, and see if OK. If not, then add some Windex Original Formula to the water and try soaking again, using a new paper towel. If this still doesn't work, you likely need to buy a new print head, so you can throw caution to the wind. Repeat the soaking but with some household ammonia added to the water in the towels. If this still doesn't work, there is probably no hope for the print head. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

I dont live in a high traffic area. (Southern Alabama lets get real) I ride a bicycle in DC traffic. Have for years. Successfully, so far. I see people yakking on handheld cells all the time (which is allegedly illegal) while driving. The cops don't do anything about it. A cyclist sees a lot of this craziness going on. I happened to be in Tennessee when I saw a guy nearly collide his Lexus into a semi at 70 mph. No, I wasn't on a bicycle at the time. I was in a Ford. But that kind of thing happens all the time. In aviation, it's called "task load". You can pick and train the absolute elite people and build the best interfaces possible and there will still be a point at which the user will be overwhelmed or distracted. The classic case is flight 401. http://www.freshgasflow.com/flight401.htm There was no attenrion to anything but a burned out lightbulb. Re: [CGUYS] Re-pairing Bluetooth headphones with the transmitter
You might want to see if other bluetooth devices are in the immediate surroundings. A couple of years ago, I shared a hotel room with a friend whilst on vacation. I was trying to help him pair his new headset to his new phone. It didn't work at first but I soon realized that the headset had paired with my laptop across the room from us. Similarly, I've gone to my car to pre heat it to clean the windscreen, etc. I've seen it acknowledge the presence of my phone even though that phone was still in my house at the time. Let the bumper cars game begin!! Wasn't there one company who wanted to put a holographic overlay on the windshield so you could drive and surf at the same time?? In this area, you can get a full ticket (not a secondary offense) for using the fone or having the phone in your hand (must be speakerphone or hands free and must be put down somewhere) ...they instituted the law and many thousands of tickets have been written but just about half or more of the drivers I encounter on the road have their cell glued to their ear with their hand to it ...especially school bus drivers, oil&gas truck drivers, teen girls in noisy cars, and just about every police car I see. The thing is out of control. A kid on a fone rear ended our car with whiplash to my wife and never got a ticket for it. Of course, the police chief of that town is now in jail for stealing money from a charity... I remember that but it was only for newer carts. My RX700 does not use a chip so I have had no problems. the CX8400 does have a chip and I am pretty sure these are from off shore. They are a two piecer. A tank with ink, plus a shell with the chip. They are not the same quality as Epson but they last just as long and are about 1/4 the price. This is not my main printer so I am not as concerned. I have an HP 7650 which is my main color ink jet (Office class from HP) and the refills for this are pretty inexpensive and I get more mileage from it. I am going to suggest that you remove the printhead, if it is user removable, and a number of Canon models do have easily removable printheads, and clean it out. Use distilled water. You can find instructions on how to do this on the internet. Said instructions may not be exact per your printer, but the methodology is about the same. Inject the water into the printhead, thus flushing it out well, let 'er dry, pop the head back in, load your carts and see what transpires. You can probaly find instructions of you search on something like "clean canon printhead." I have found these instruction previously, so I know they are out there and folks say it worked for them. Epson won a lawsuit in the Unites States a few years ago that bars third parties from replicating their cartridges, filling them with ink and selling them. A couple of companies designed carts that, while not closely replicating the Epson ones, do work just fine in the printers they were designed for. Epson fumed a bit, but could not really do anything about it. However, because of that lawsuit, Epson third party carts are hard to come by these days. To my knowledge, no other major printer makers have filed similar lawsuits. [CGUYS] Canon i9900 prints reds and pinks where gray should be.
I have a Canon i9900 that is printing reds and pinks where it should be printing grays. Thanks, Rocky * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

Re: [CGUYS] epson workforce 610
At present I have three different Epson printers. RX700 R300 CX8400 I use generic cartridges in all. The CX8400 uses chips and they have made a system that works successfully with the chips but it is not perfect. Matter of fact the refills I got for the CX are from Ebay. No blow ups no out right failures. Just be aware that Epsons seems to go through a lot of ink. Read reviews on Cnet first. You should be able to get a comparable HP for a similar price and their cartridges seem to last longer. Normally, I don't recommend using generic ink, but if you're not going for excellent color reproduction or archival quality, generics can save you $. Innovera makes inks for several Epson models, & so far I haven't had a problem. Nobody's going to give you a page count/cartridge figure. The only way I calculated ours was to keep track for the first cartridge set vs. page count, & come up with a (very rough) estimate. Of course, we'd already bought the printer. david David Turk Manager, Preservation Imaging Services Indiana Historical Society Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center 450 W. On Ink jets I always look for individual color ink tanks. I go through yellow faster than everything else and on three ink tank would only half empty the other two. I tried to standardize to one brand of printer in the house because I have Ink that works on both printers. My Canon's have two black ink tanks a big one and a smaller one. Downside is that it still won't print if the black 5 tank is empty and the black 8 tank is full. -- John Duncan Yoyo ---o) * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
