Hi Markus,

well yes, the new Courier Debian version hit my users badly ... and in the end
I decided to downgrade.
Don't get me wrong!
I really very much appreciate somebody taking on the challenge of maintaining a
pretty big and important package!

I've been using Debian for almost 20 years and appreciate the more conservative
upgrading pace (i.e. in comparison to Ubuntu).
However, the Stretch upgrade was pretty bumpy due to major changes in several
important packages.
(PHP 7, PHP7.0-fpm, slapd, tinydns, Samba and a perl syntax check)

Please, if there are still issues with Maildrop (or something else) we need to
fully understand the issue and have at least a manual workaround. If I restart
a server after the upgrade and then discover issue this means most time a very
long night - without any guarantee to solve the problem.

Aber trotz allem, vielen Dank fuer Muehe und Einsatz!

Bernd

[courier-users] setuid/setgid problem, mail from website not sent

2017-07-05 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi Sam,

thank you VERY much!
This was the answer.

Just for the record:
I had to downgrade my Debian system due to issues with the new Debian packages.
Seems that the permissions on the sendmail wrapper were not set correctly by
the installation program.

Again, thank you very much!

[courier-users] setuid/setgid problem, mail from website not sent

2017-07-05 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi

I'm trying to send mail from website mail, or webmail.
However, sending doesn't work,

Log entries:

Jul 06 00:25:45 linde lighttpd[1182]: setuid/setgid: Operation not permitted
Jul 06 00:25:45 linde lighttpd[1182]: /cgi-bin/FormMail.pl: close sendmail pipe
failed, mailprog=[/usr/lib/sendmail -oi -t] at (eval 9) line 108.

The courier sendmail program:
s -l /usr/sbin/sendmail
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root courier 59120 Jan 26 2015 /usr/sbin/sendmail

What can I do to solve this problem?

Best regards,
Bernd

Re: [courier-users] journald logging - for the record

2017-03-25 Thread Bernd Plagge
The issue has been resolved. Here are the details for the record.
Goal was: use journald logging without additional syslog/rsyslog files

Linux-version: Debian 8.7 (jessie)

Two conditions must be met:
1) /dev/log must be a symlink to /run/systemd/journal/dev-log
(/run/systemd/journal/dev-log did exist but /dev/log was no symlink)
-> remove /dev/log and create the link
   -> ln -s /run/systemd/jurnal/dev/log /dev/log

2) If you mask syslog-ng or rsyslog and then remove the packages syminks in
/etc/systemd/system/ are not removed)
   -> manually remove /etc/systemd/system/syslog-ng -> /dev/null and/or
/etc/systemd/system/rsyslog -> /dev/null

Now restart socket and service:
1) restart the journald socket
   -> systemctl restart systemd-journald.socket

2) restart the journald service
   -> systemctl restart systemd-journald.service

Finally check with journalctl -f that logging works.

Cheers,
Bernd

Hi Gordon,

I'm running Courier 0.73.1-1.6 on Debian 8. Not sure if this makes a difference.

It seems that you're running journal without syslog, rsyslog or syslog-ng. Is
this correct?
Does this require particular journald.conf settings?
Do you happen to have a link to the configuration description.

Thanks,
Bernd

[courier-users] journald logging

2017-03-21 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi Sam,
thanks for a great product!

Times are changing and with the introduction of systemd also comes journald.
Seems that running syslog in addition to journald is not very good.

So, I switched syslog off.
Now I find imap and pop messages in the log but no delivery result or messages
about incoming mails. It seems that half of the Courier messages does not make
it into the journal.

Are there any settings I've overseen? Courier logging is turned on but maybe
there are additional journald settings.

Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,

Bernard

Hi Gordon,

thanks for the quick answer.
I'm using Debian (Jessie) and Python 2.7.

Just applied your patch; hopefully this works.

Thanks a lot,

[courier-users] Release quarantine messages - pythonfilter

2016-12-07 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello,

I'm having some problems to release quarantine messages - actually some
customer wants to release a message.

The link is like this:

Quarantine release address:
quarantine-3451cb7b-00b9-43d0-87a2-327f44882f7a-206...@choicenet.ne.jp

Here 206328 is the ID of the message is the quarantine database:
var/lib/pythonfilter/quarantine/msgs.db

However, I always got a message saying that the message was not found
So, I wrote a small program to list the keys in the database:

/var/lib/pythonfilter/quarantine# ./dbmtest.pl msgs.db
203720L
206242L
206330L
206332L
206328L

Here all keys seems to have a trailing 'L'.

This is the Python release function:

def release(requestedId, address):
# Open and lock the quarantine DB
(dbm, lock) = _getDb()
if dbm.has_key(requestedId):
(qtime, quarantinePaths) = pickle.loads(dbm[requestedId])
else:
(qtime, quarantinePaths) = (None, None)
# Unlock the DB
_closeDb(dbm, lock)
# If quarantinePaths is None, then an invalid ID was requested.
if not quarantinePaths:
# Alert the user that his request failed
sendFailureNotice(requestedId, address)
return
# Load message with XFilter
qmsg = courier.xfilter.XFilter('quarantine', quarantinePaths[0],
quarantinePaths[1])
# Check the recipients for one matching the requestor
for x in qmsg.getControlData()['r']:<- read 'r' control
data
if(x[0] == address or
   x[1] == address or
   x[1] == '%s%s' % ('rfc822;', address)):
# Inject the message with "submit" for requestor
qmsg.submitInject('local', [x])
return
# If no address matched, alert the user that the request was invalid.
sendFailureNotice(requestedId, address)

The program reads the message control data in the corresponding file (here:
C206328 ) which looks like this:

(sender email)
(server ip address)
e
t
M00030620.58477259.35A9
rjohn.sm...@domain.com <-- 'r'
Rrfc822;john.sm...@domain.com <-- 'R'
N

As the program reads the 'r' headers it will never match the 'R' header
Or am I wrong??

Actually the program returns a 'message not found' mail if either the mail is
not found in the database or if the release requester is not not one of the
mail recipients.
I don't complain about this but it is a bit unclear.

My real concern is if the IDs in the release link are correct - or not.
Could anybody shed some light on this?

Thanks a lot!

2014-12-23 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi Sam,

This has already been addressed in 0.71. The current version of Courier
should handle these moderation replies just fine.

Thanks for your answer.
That's great. I'm hoping that the Debian upgrade becomes at least available in
the wheezy backports.

Re: [courier-users] Mailing List moderation

2014-12-18 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi Sam,

thanks!

Yesterday I sent a cc moderation (failed as before).
Today I did not sign it but left the footer block - and it failed as well. So
it seems that the signature is not the problem.

I had a look at the cmlmmoderate.C program (version 0.68.2-1 Debian) and this
is pretty straight forward - searching for 'no', 'reject', additional message
and filename/token.

It uses the std::getline function.
There is a module_getline in moduledel.c which checks for EOF or '\n'.

Not sure offhand why your signed messages are a problem. I can see how PGP-
MIME signed messages might be a problem, but looks like you're using old-
style inline PGP signatures.

Your message looks like an ordinary base64-encoded message. Once decoded,
the tokens look fine to me. couriermlm shouldn't have an issue with decoding
encoded messages.

Try this: reply to a moderation message, and add a cc to yourself, to
capture an exact copy of the entire message that got sent – including all
of its headers.

Then, looking at the entire, pristine message, might result in some
additional clues.

[courier-users] Mailing List moderation

2014-12-16 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi Sam,

thank you very much for your excellent mail server which I've been using
happily for many year!

I've a minor issue with mailing list moderation.

As you can see I'm signing my mails and I have a biggish signature with some
web links.
When I receive a moderation request and simply reply to it it won't be
recognized and the post will not be sent to the list.
If, however, I delete the signature block AND don't sign the message everything
works perfectly.

So, it seems that the moderation mail is not recognized if it signed and/or
contains some characters found in the signature.
While I recognise that I can just switch signing off and remove the signature
part this is easily forgotten.

Maybe you can address this in one of the future releases.

Thanks again,
Bernd

Hi,

I think you find this line:
newmsg,id=0022805E.533E911D.19DB, auth=x...@xxx.xxx

in the mail queue files - should be in /var/lib/courier/msgq

can't verify it right now because the mail queue is empty.
BTW, you check your mail queue with the 'mailq' command.

The most likely answer here is that Hotmail was hacked and is being used to
send garbled spam.

You can adjust one of the two header limit parameters in the bofh file, man
courier, and search for BOFHHEADERLIMIT.

But, really, do you really want to accept crap with 100,000 bytes in its
header?

Sam,

a friend tried to sent the mail from his hotmail account and it was returned
several times.
As this error prevents you from receiving the mail in the first place I have no
idea if this happened just once or often.
On the other hand 100,000 bytes is a lot - and unless others are having the
same problem I can probably ignore it.

Anyway, thanks for help and explanation!

This means that the sender failed to negotiate TLS because no shared ciphers
were in common. Each time an encrypted connections gets established between
two parties, they have to agree on a common encryption parameters.

When Courier is built against OpenSSL (default), the OpenSSL configuration
is controlled by TLS_CIPHER_LIST, if Courier is built against GnuTLS, it
comes from TLS_PRIORITY.

Most likely, you're using the default configuration which disables low-
security ciphers, and the other side can only do low-security ciphers, hence
there was no common cipher.

Sam,

thanks for the explanation.
I'll leave the default then; looks fine to me.

Re: [courier-users] Sending FAX using T.38

2011-06-14 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hallo Michelle,

some years ago I did some research about this. This is how I see it:
- T.38 is a protocol for sending faxes over the internet (ie. SIP is not
suitable)
- the only program I know is t38modem. Using this program you can define
virtual modems using Hayes commands

With T38modem you define a virtual end points. You could have one end point in
Strassbourg and another one in Paris. You could then send faxes to a fax
machine in Paris. T.38 is a data transmission standard with no relation to
email.

T.37 is the standard to send faxes via email. T.37 is actually supported by
many modern fax machines. T.37 is also referred to as iFax, Internet Fax,
or Store-forward-fax.
For technical details check here:
http://www.cantata.com/support/download/t37_dev_notes.pdf

My VoIP provider in Muenchen (CNN, http://www.bluesip.net) supports fax
sending, fax receiving and mail2fax. You may want to check the details.

I personally use a 14,400 Nissei faxmodem to receive faxes (and to send them to
my email account) and to send faxes (using a fax.ppd driver) using the efax
debian package. I made the (primitive) fax.ppd driver. Using this driver you
can specify the fax number when printing/sending the fax. It works with Gedit
but not with OpenOffice.

Hope this helps,
Bernd

Re: [courier-users] courier-users Digest, Vol 60, Issue 6

2011-04-11 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi,

I think I changed from vopopmail and qmailadmin about 5 years ago.

Now I'm using Courier for everything (pop3, smtp, imap, webmail).
Courier is a well integrated and well maintained product. Thanks Sam!
I'm a very happy user.

Virtual domains are well supported by Courier.
Conversion from xyz to Courier i.e. any conversion of a life system needs to be
well planned.
The first thing to do is to understand how to set up and operate Courier. This
is best done by setting up a test system. Once you're happy with the daily
operating, managing domains and managing mail accounts you need to plan the
conversion process.

Hope this helps,
Bernd

Is there any GUI that is available for Courier that could do a similar

How are you guys managing multiple domains? I am assuming that many of

Hello,

Did you try to use pyclamd instead of pyclamav ?

Best regards.

Hi Jerome,

yes, I have pyclamd installed as well.

Seems that that problem is really due to incorrect freshclam updates.
Wrote a quick wget script to download the right files.
So far it works.

[courier-users] pythonfilter error checking

2010-10-11 Thread Bernd Plagge

Hi

I might have found the reason for those LibClamAV errors which (almost) nobody
else seems to have.
Today I ran aptitude which also updated all clamav packages. During
installation I opted for the standard package configuration - as I didn't make
any configuration changes.

Soon after that I got another LibClamAV courierfilter: LibClamAV Error:
cl_free: engine == NULL error.
While trying to find the problem I also tested the pythonfilter clamav.py
program i.e. the included python modules.

Where I had a /var/lib/clamav/daily.cvd file before there was now a
/var/lib/clamav/daily.cld file.
It seems that 'daily.cvd' is the compressed version of 'daily.cld'.

The clamav-freshclam package's standard configuration contains
'CompressLocalDatabase no'.
So, the first database upgrade after the program upgrade downloaded the
daily.cld file.

Unfortunately pyclamav doesn't seem to understand the uncompressed format. As a
result Courier will block all messages to be sent.

Would it be possible to include a test for the correct clamav database
versionand throw up an error if 'daily.cvd' doesn't exist? This would be very
helpful and remove a potential mail disruption.

Cheers,
Bernd

clamav from the debian volatile repository. It has up-to-date versions that

Jeff,
thanks for your comments.
Yes, I get the clamav database updates from the volatile repository as well.

ClamAV version 0.94 is not supported any more.
However, the stable package python-clamav 0.4.1-1+b1 depends on libclamav5 (=
0.94.dfsg). As the name suggests this version does not support ClamAV ver 0.95,
the currently used version.
Finally, I solved the problem by upgrading to python-clamav 0.4.1-1.1+b1
depending on libclamav6 (= 0.95.3+dfsg); this is a testing package.

So, it seems that if you're using ClamAV 0.95 you need to upgrade python-clamav
to use the testing package.
Finally, the ClamAV version you're actually using shows in the freshclam log:

2010-04-15 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello

I'm using Debian.
this morning the pythonfilter clamav module stopped working.
ClamAV version 0.94 is not valid any more.

Although I have libclamav 0.95 installed there was apparently a problem with
the database version:
Apr 16 09:38:56 linde courierfilter: LibClamAV Error: Problem parsing
database at line 742
Apr 16 09:38:57 linde courierfilter: LibClamAV Error: Can't load daily.ndb:
Malformed database

Searching the net I found a pyclamav.c patch (from Gordon). So I downloaded the
patch and rebuilt the python-clamav_0.4.1
Debian package.
This converted the database and the clamav module started.
In addition I upgraded to pythonfilter 1.6 (lastest version).

However, now I get below error:
Apr 16 13:21:48 linde courierfilter: LibClamAV Error: cl_free: engine == NULL
Apr 16 13:21:48 linde courierfilter: LibClamAV Error: cl_load: engine == NULL
Apr 16 13:21:48 linde courierfilter: pythonfilter clamav
reject,from=mail...@x.jp,addr=abcd...@y.jp: 554 Null argument
passed to function

Btw, courier is verion 0.60.

Any ideas? Is this an error in pythonfilter?

Cheers,
Bernd

Jeff,

while I'm currently using some self-developed tools (combination of PHP, ldap
addressbook, shell scripts) for domain and mail administration I really
appreciate your contribution.
I'm also sure that many people use them and in addition your tools will be a
valuable addition to Courier.
Thanks again!

I've been very happily using courier for more than 10 years now, and over that
time my email administration tools have gone from vi to bash scripts to perl
scripts to simple web scripts to full-blown web programs. I've been meaning
for
the past year or so to clean this stuff up and turn it loose so others could
use
it as well, but life being what it is, I've not gotten around to it. Finally
my
very patient wife encouraged me to take this week of vacation between
Christmas
and New Year's to actually do the work and get it out the door. So here it
is,
my little contribution to my favorite mail server...

Couriersite is a web program (written in perl) designed to allow relatively
easy
administration of courier email servers. It is also designed to allow others
to
administer different parts of the email system, thereby making less work for
the
overworked and under paid email administrator! To that end, it provides four
programs:

* Siteadmin - which allows someone to administer the entire email server (all
services, domains, users, mailing lists, etc.).
* Domainadmin - which allows someone to administer a single email domain
(settings, users, and mailinglists).
* Listadmin - which allows someone to administer a single mailing list.
* Useradmin - which allows someone to administer a single email user.

The installer sets up the complete courier email suite (if it's not already
installed) as well as spamassassin and clamav. So you get all of courier as
well
as AV and spam scanning working out-of-the-box. If you enable webdav in your
web server, it also allows users to upload and share their calendars with
other
email users in their email domain (all email users access calendars using
their
own email usernames and passwords) or with anyone using a generic username and
password.

The site administrator has complete control over what runs and what doesn't,
but
then they can delegate administration of domains and mailinglists to others if
they choose. Moreover, users can log into the Useradmin program and administer
their own email address including changing their password, setting forwarding
addresses, spam controls (if enabled), calendar sharing (if enabled), and
creating a vacation/auto reply (with an optional automatic stop date).

The real point of the program is to get others to do my work for me, laziness
being a chief virtue of most IT professionals! :-)

The tar ball of the files (with the installation script) can be found at
http://www.kkoncepts.net/courier/files;.

Installation instructions are available in the tar ball or you can read them
on-line here - http://www.kkoncepts.net/courier/readme;. DEFINITELY read
this
before you install. There's some caveats you need to know before you push
the
INSTALL button - like the installer thinks that you are running on a clean
Debian system!

Many of the gory details (which you definitely also should read) can be found
at
http://www.kkoncepts.net/courier/details;

I'm a systems administrator, not a programmer, so if you see problems, bugs,
security issues, etc., please let me know. I'm sure that someone more gifted
than I could write this much better. But it scratches where I itch and
makes
my life easier. So hopefully it can do the same for others.

Bit confused,

Hi,

djbdns makes distinguishes between the DNS server and the DNSCache.
/etc/dnscahe refers to the DNScache, your DNS server configuration should be at
/etc/tinydns.
Tinydns should be listening at an internal IP address like 127.53.0.1.

You need to configure tinydns to be able to resolve your hosts.
Also note that Courier does not use /etc/hosts or /etc/hostname. So, there is
no shortcut.

oh - just take it as an advise.
I understand what you want to achieve but I'm telling you that this will

Reason is that the assumptions are not holding anymore.
The fact that other mta's are providing the same option doesn't make it more
intelligent.

Anyway, your server - your rules.

[courier-users] badhost patch

2009-04-27 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello,

no offense intended but this approach will make you reject valid mails.
For one, your basic assumption is that any mail originating from a hostname
including dial/adsl/dsl is just spam. This doesn't hold true in times where
lines are becoming faster and companies are running their own mail server from
a DSL connection.
Just to give you an idea. Here in Japan fibre optics 100 Mbit lines are very
common and one provider started to offer a 1 Gigbit line for a very affordable
monthly flat rate.

Hello.

Some years ago I missed a function on Courier bofh file. It was to reject
connections based on the reverse dns host name.
I made a patch and I use it for arround 4 years with no problems.
I use mostly to block direct delivery from adsl/dial-up connections.

The bofh lines look like this:

badhost adsl.giga.net.tw
badhost broadband.ntl.com
badhost cable.primacom.net
badhost dial-in.ttnet.net.tr
badhost dial-up.arnes.si
badhost dyn.user.ono.com
badhost dsl.amrltx.swbell.net

And courier will block with messages like this:

517 Host rejected: 217.217.64.81.dyn.user.ono.com

Blocking hostnames and not IP networks is much more easy to mantain. I hope
this helps anyone who missed that feature too.

[courier-users] Debian ssl/tls

2009-04-06 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I've been using Debian and Courier for a number of years and never experienced
such problems.
(I did get, however, the version mismatch error - which I managed to correct
fairly easily).

Therefore I don't think that this is a Debian/Ubuntu problem.

You should note that re-installing a Debian/Ubuntu package will by default NOT
replace your (customized) configuration files with the standard files. If you
want to install the stock configuration files you need to request this during
the installation process or remove the current installation files before a
re-install.

During a new Debian/Ubuntu installation certificates are generated as well. As
there were some problems with a 4-year old certificate mentioned in this thread
it seems that outdated (and faulty) Courier configuration files were just
copied and kept.

Bernd

Re: [courier-users] courier-users Digest, Vol 35, Issue 26

2009-03-27 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Marcus,

unfortunately nobody can help you unless you can provide details like courier
configuration and logfiles.
It is not that people don't want to help but they just can't without sufficient
details.

Your problem could be at your end as well as at your partners end.
First thing to do are some test like:

1) send an email from a yahoo, google etc account to your mail address on the
server in question
   does it arrive?
if yes, then the server is basically working

2) next thing to check is your DNS configuration. There are various websites
like www.dnsstuff.com;
they give you a detailed report about your name server configuration.
If you don't know how to do this provide your domain name here and other
people can check it.

3) Email works similar to normal mail.
   A: I sent you a letter
   B: I didn't get any
   Possible reasons:
1) A didn't send the letter
2) A did sent the letter but the address was incorrect
3) A did sent the letter with correct address but the letter got lost
4) letter was correctly delivered but B was too lazy to get it from the
letter box
5) B got the letter but didn't like the content and is just pretending
that he didn't got it

In Email content you as the receiver won't see it until it hits your server
(this is from point 3) onward above).
To solve the problem in case 1) and 2) you need to know what is happening on
the other end.
To ask for logfiles or returned mail errors is not unprofessional at all as
the problem may well be at your
   customers end.

4) Most mail servers validate a domain before sending mail to a corresponding
email address. If the domain doesn't
resolve correctly the sender will receive a error message like 'domain
xxx.com doesn't resolve' or similar.
This means that either your DNS servers are not working or your customers
DNS configuration is faulty.
The first problem you checked under 2).
Incorrect DNS configuration is much more frequent than commonly assumed.
You'll hear answers like 'we don't have
email problems with other domains' etc. but this claim is unfounded because
somebody only becomes aware of such
problems if somebody complains. In other words: there is no way that a sys
admin could prove that he can reach
   all domains execpt yours.

Using a command (Linux) command like:
  dig a mail server @dns-server

where mail server is your mail server e.g. mail.xyz.com
and dns-server is your partnsers dns server e.g.
n...@important-customer.com

you can find out whether your customers mail server can find you.
If your DNS configuration is correct (point 2) ) and your customers mail
server still can't find you then you
need to contact your customers techies to solve the problem. It is not your
problem.

General advise is: don't be impressed if your boss (or whoever) is running wild
demanding that you ensure that he gets his mail. Secondly, if you can't receive
mail from a particular domain then most times the problem is on their end.
Over the years I had a number of such problems and each time the problem was at
the other end.

The real challenge is to find and contact the partners system administrator -
as mail server operation is highly automated. Even then you need somebody who
is really understanding the problem AND willing to investigate.

Anyway, I hope this helps,

Regards,
Bernd

I would not try to dare asking for their server logs, since the person which
sent the mail which we did not receive is a business partner, and it would
be an unprofessional manner if I contact one of our investors asking for
their mail server logs. So all what I have is a forwarded mail, addressed to
2 persons, and one person (which uses our mailserver) did not receive the
mail. I checked from that day on all mail.log mail.warn and mail.err , but
there is not even any hint about this mail...

Okay, you might say, the mail has never arrived at our server (that was also
my guess the first times when this happened). But since we have at least 1
case per week where people wrote us, and the mail never arrived (in addition
the sender never received any error or reject mail), I personally think it
is a bit suspicious.

on another note, i'll give it a shot for couerier-mta

The easiest option is to use couriers mailing lists (couriermlm). A web
interface to set certain management options is also included.
If you use virtual daemons I recommend to set up multiple instances of the web
interface (one per domain).

Setting up a mailing list requires a number of manual steps.
One important point is to ensure all mailing list files are owned by the user
and group courier is running as!
You may want to set up several scripts to ensure that this is done in a
consistant way.

Bernd

I changed from qmail/vpopmail to Courier about 2 years ago.
It does take planning and you want to set up a test server and make sure that
you understand the main configuration options and the whole concept.
SPAM prevention actually becomes easier; the main reason being Gordons
pythonfilter.

This is just a recommendation but I'm sure you won't regret it.

Dear List,

How do I configure courier-pop/courier-imap/courier-authlib in a situation
where

1) there are multiple domains hosted with separate name space
2) the user information is there in the LDAP table
3) the LDAP structure is something like
ou=name-of-the-domain,dc=my-organization-name

So far as I understand, the search base is going to be different for each of
the domains. How do I tell authlib to use different basedn values? Do I use
multiple entries, one for each of the domains, in the authldaprc file?

Kindly give me some hints.

With regards,

Goutam

Hi Goutam,

you need to start reading.
Pointers are:
  - get the very detailed courier installation document
  - get the documentation about authlib
  - your suggested ldap structure is not really helping you. Check the
suggested ldap
structure 'authldap'

You do not need a different ldap ou for each virtual domain.
One important field for each email user is the location of his mail files.
These directories you normally want to group by domain. So, use something like:

  .../domain1/mailuser-1
  .../domain1/mailuser-2
  .../domain2/mailuser-xyz

When testing authentication it is higly recommende to use authtest and to
switch debugging on (in authldaprc I think). This will show you search paths
and passwords in syslog.

Regards,
Bernd

[courier-users] webmlm - unsubscribe problems

2008-10-28 Thread Bernd Plagge

Hello,

our customers get access to the webmlm interface to adjust mailinglist
settings and to subscribe/unsubscribe people.

After logging in you can show the whole subscriber list, mark single
subscribers and unsubscribe them.

However, this doesn't seem to work.
Error Message: Error: unsubscribe failed shows.
All files in the mailing list directory belong the global uid, gid.
So I think that it can't be an ownership probem.

The subscribers are added using the couriermlm import function.
What could the reason be - or how can I find this out.

Thanks for all help!

We used an import file to load mailinglist subscribers when we moved

These addresses all cause errors when you try to unsubscribe them by
checking them on the webmlm admin screen and pressing 'unsubscibe

Manually subscribed addresses, however, can be unsubscribed.

We found that the problem always occurs if there is no subscription
information for a given email address.
Changing the file above to the following format solves the problem:

Is there anything out there which already takes care of this for ldap?

Once there are more than 100 header records you get an 'Looping'
exception.

The exception is no problem but I didn't understand why the mail was
processed multiple times.
For each of the additional header lines the log showed a 'newmsg'
record; so obviously it was generated by the server.

It turned out that the spam test was looping.

After hours of search and I checked the spamassassin pythonfilter
config file.

[spamassassin.py]
spamcPath = '/usr/bin/spamc'
maxMsgSize = 512000
#username = 'username'
#rejectScore = 5

We don't run user-specific spam tests and therefore spamc is run as
root.
Therefore I changed the file to read like:

[spamassassin.py]
spamcPath = '/usr/bin/spamc'
maxMsgSize = 512000
username = 'root'
#rejectScore = 5

Now everything works like a charm.

While this is understandable once you checked all the details I wonder
whether it would be possible to check for the correct user.
May be this is difficult.
At the very least a comment in the README file and/or in
pythonfilter-modules.conf would be very much appreciated!

When investigating this problem I also check xfilter.py and the line:

   self.message.add_header('X-Filtered-By', filterName)

suggests that it adds a header line.
However, I can't find this header line in my mails although the
spamassassin headers are showing fine:

X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.3 (2007-08-08) on
linde.choicenet.ne.jp
X-Spam-Level:
X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.1 required=5.0 tests=RDNS_NONE autolearn=no
version=3.2.3

Thanks for pythonfilter!

Regards,
Bernd

[courier-users] imap mail and greylisting

2008-04-14 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I'm checking Squirrelmail out.
Squirrelmail interfaces with Courier via imap.
Also, we're using the pythonfilter with greylisting.

What happened is that a mail could not be sent but was rejected with a
message greylisting in action - come back in 5 min.
Reading the documentation it seems that /etc/courier/enablefiltering
controls
what mail is filtered. This file contains just the standard esmtp
entry.
Therefore I was assuming that mail from local users (including hosted
domains) is not filtered. (I think that Squirrelmail submits mail via
PHP).
Is that not correct?

I check /etc/courier/imapd and enabled the Outbox function. As mail
is submitted to directly to Courier (via sendmail) no error message
should be returned.
Is that assumption correct?

The mail is sent but stays in the Outbox folder. Is this a feature?

So, the problem is that users don't understand neither like come back
in 5 minutes. Is there another way to accept mail from local users
without a greylisting message being returned?

cheers,
Bernd

[courier-users] Courier Debian install

2008-03-08 Thread Bernd Plagge

Hello,

just to clarify this. There was not problem with the Debian
installation in this case.
You may have a /etc/courier/smtpaccess file or a corresponding
directory. At installation time Debian asks you whether you want a
single file or a directory.
If you use the webadmin interface (in Debian 'courierwebadmin') data
is written in directories.
In any case, if there should be a particular file missing you can
easily add it using a standard text editor.

Hope this helps,
Bernd

Aha! May be this is the missing chain? I'm using Debian (latest
stable), which provide me prebuilded packages, what are easy to install
and configure. But some times (recommended mta for Debian is exim4)
there are some informations skipped. I have no /etc/courier/smtpacces
directory at all, I have an /etc/courier/smtpacces.dat - I have been
checked it, but I do not now how to convert it back to human readable
format. Do you know how to do it? - I'm afraid that whitout the source
of smtpacces.dat file I can not recreate it expanded with
FAXRELAYCLIENT which I need.

[courier-users] courier mailing list - Invalid moderation message

Hello,

we are using Courier 0.57.

Set up a mailing list for subscribers only and moderation enabled.
When sending a the moderation confirmation for a posting with
attachments to the list the server log says 'Invalid moderation
message'.

Finally I checked the source code and it seems that this message is
only triggered in cmlmmoderate.C

Is it correct that one of conditions for this error is that the message
size exceeds 5 bytes?
While I'm not really complaining about a limit - though it might be
better to have a configuration option for this - I think that the error
message is misleading.
Also no mail was returned to the owner - so it's impossible to know the
reason for the mail not being sent.

Still, the moderation request was shown in the web interface - but
without the message text. I could confirm it from there and the mails
got sent.

I'd appreciate somebody could clarify this.
Thanks!

[courier-users] reposted: cripped Japanese characters in sqwebmail

2008-02-20 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

It seems that this mail didn't make it to the list.

Hello,

there seems to be a bug in sqwebmail where Japanese mail get crippled
i.e. characters get modified and not readable any more.

The problems seems to occur when 'soft breaks' (flowed format) are
inserted into the text.
The text is encoded in 'quoted-printable' format and according to the
RFC soft-breaks are inserted 'between words'.

The problem with Japanese text is that the normal text flow does not
contain spaces. This necessarily leads to lines exceeding the
predetermined text length.
- - From what I can see the program is searching for (single byte) space
characters and then applies soft breaks. However, a single byte space
character is likely to be the first or second byte of a double byte
Japanese character and thus the inserted soft break destroys the
character.

Test (1) with lines of over 50-60 (single byte) chars length show
crippled characters.
Test (2) with very short lines of about 20 (single byte) chars was
transmitted without problems.

Text already got crippled when saved to the 'draft' folder.

I have screen prints to show the problem. If you should require them
please let me know where to upload them to.

Cheers,
Bernd

courierfilter creates the .lock files; pythonfilter does not. If you see
that happen again, use lsof to see what PID has those files opened and
locked, and find out what PID is in the courierfilter.pid file.

Ok, I just checked this:

pythonfil 4886 daemon3u unix 0xf7aab900
2540363 /var/lib/courier/allfilters/.pythonfilter courierfi 6011
daemon 1023uW REG 254,1 0
33062 /var/lib/courier/filters/.lock (deleted)

I says (deleted) but nevertheless the file still exists:

drwxr-x--- 2 daemon daemon 4096 2008-01-28 11:49 .
drwxr-xr-x 9 binbin4096 2008-01-11 11:53 ..

[courier-users] Courier mailing list - moderation requests

2008-02-06 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all,

we are now using the courier mailing list.
There are some points we don't quite understand.

If a user is subscribed via the new web interface a moderation request
is triggered (moderated list) and sent to the moderator.
However, the mail address of the person who wants to subscribe is not
shown. There is no placeholder on the sub4.tmpl template.
How can I ensure that at least the mail address of the requester is
shown?

If the moderator replies to the request then in a number of cases the
server says 'invalid modration request' although the sender is
specified as list owner. Is there a common reason for such 'invalid
moderation request' messages?

Is there a way to specify several moderators for any one list?

Tia,
Bernd

[courier-users] courierfilter - minor problem

2008-01-28 Thread Bernd Plagge
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

when I tried to stop courierfilter yesterday it showed an 'Alarm'
message after about 3 seconds. Coourierfilter didn't stop and
re-issuing the stop command just resulted in the same message.

I'm running pythonfilter only and pythonfilter writes a .lock file
in /var/lib/courier/allfilters.
But I also had a .lock file in /var/lib/courier/filters and it seems
that 'courierfilter stop' didn't try or success to remove this file.

Once I deleted /var/lib/courier/filters/.lock manually and disabled the
pythonfilter I could start and stop courierfilter without problem.
After enabling pythonfilter again I could normally start courierfilter.

Could you please verify this?
Thanks!

Apparently one tmp file was not found...

man courierfilter says that crashed filters won't be restarted.

If that's the case how do I get a filter restarted - I tried filterctl
stop pythonfilter and then start again. courierfilter stop and start.

As the initialization period of the pythonfilter (with clamav and
spamassassin module) is 2-3 seconds I noticed straight away that the
pythonfilter was not being initialized anymore.

Is there a single condition which ensures that courierfilter is at
least trying to run a particular filter?
(I noticed that file /var/lib/courier/allfilters/pythonfilter must
exist).

Besides that I'm worried that esmtp sending stopped (mail was till
received). Is that a known feature? And if so is there a way to check
automatically that the server is still working?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

filterctl would normally do it, unless the process is stuck in a
syscall, or can't exit for some other reason. Then you might need to
restart courierfilter, too.

Is there a single condition which ensures that courierfilter is at least
trying to run a particular filter?

I'm not sure what you mean.

Well I restarted courierfilter and pythonfilter did not get
initialized.and started. Are there any known conditions for this to
happen.

Besides that I'm worried that esmtp sending stopped (mail was till
  received).

If mail is being received, then your filters are working. If filters
stop working, you'll see something like 432 Mail filters temporarily
unavailable in your logs.

So you are saying there is no condition where the server is still
receiving mail but no mail is going out?

Bernd

[courier-users] Logging

2007-12-19 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi everybody,

courier and pythonfilter are working fine here!
Thanks for a always getting better software!

Although pythonfilter and RBL blocking are working fine we sometimes
having customers complaining - not very nicely - about too much spam.
My perception is that most of these complaints are unreasonable and out
of proportion.
The problem is, however, that the customer only sees what PASSES and
not the amount of SPAM being identified and rejected. Then, when they
complain or even threat to change to some other provider I find it
difficult to argue ...

I would like to be able to get some stats like
   - total number of mails addressed to some domain/mail account
- number of mails rejected for various reasons like
- identified by spamassassin
- ip in rbl
- failed SPF check
- infected mail
   - total number of mail send by domain/mail account

I do not necessarily need the details but these number would be of
great help.

There are lines like New message for in the log; we could
count them.
Spamassassin issues lines like Identified spam ..
Could we have log lines like
   message for rejected by filter
where filter would be SPF, blacklist, clamav ??

A unified format would help as it would greatly simplify the
development of a stats program.

We implemented courier-analog but it doesn't seem to give me that data.

Just some thoughts.

Bernd

Holger,

here is what I have:

courierd:DEFAULTDELIVERY=| /usr/bin/maildrop
maildrop:/usr/bin/maildrop

/etc/courier/maildroprc looks like:

#Maildropfile configuration
# fc 2007-11-15
# if you enable the 'logfile' option and the various 'log' lines
# a maildrop.log file will be created in the mail users $HOME directory!
#logfile ./maildrop.log

# add spam headers
#xfilter spamc --config=/etc/spamassassin
# if you remove the backticks (`) no $RETURNCODE will be set!
`test -e $HOME/mailfilter`
#log mailfilter test returns $RETURNCODE
if ($RETURNCODE eq 0)
{
# log mailfilter found
include $HOME/mailfilter
exit
}
to $HOME

note:
- I put mail directly into the users home directory i.e. no Maildir
directory
- I have a maildirfilterconfig file in every users mail directory with
the following content:

#bp 2007-11-27 - for courier mail
MAILDIR=$HOME
MAILDIRFILTER=mailfilter

--
If you put the log file somewhere else you need to make sure that it
can be generated by the standard courier user you're using (I'm using
courier.courier).

I'm running the 0.57.0-1 version:

[courier-users] Error compiling Courier with TLS

2007-11-30 Thread Bernd Plagge
Leigh,

you' did a pretty good job in explaining it.
For about 2 years or so Debian was only offering outdated packages and
even I started to compile packages.
While I greatly appreciate the 'standard file locations' and
dependencies Debian enforces there may be good reasons to recompile a
Debian package e.g. if command line values need to be changed.
In such case I download the Debian source files (original source plus
Debian diff), change the compile parameters in debian/rules and build
the packges.
This normally works UNLESS there are major program changes.

Therefor, in conclusion and for the benefit of any other reader, if you
need to change some compile parameters you should NOT download the
tarball and compile it but the original source together with the Debian
diff file and then recompile it.

Just my 2 yen.

Thanks,
Bernd

[courier-users] mail address with dot '.'

2007-11-25 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello,

I have a serious problems.
Some of our customers have mail addresses with a dot '.' between first
name and last name. It seems that is is in compliance with the RFC.

However, courier can't change to the corresponding subdirectory.
In the (person name and domain name have been modified!) example
sqwebmail - and the same is true for courier - cuts dot and everything
following off when trying to change to the directory.

linde sqwebmaild: :
chdir(/home/domain.co.jp/mail/m) failed!!

As long as the mail address format is not illegal I need to fix this.
Could anybody point me to the corresponding code.

BTW, we are running courier 0.57.0.0.

Cheers,
Bernd

[courier-users] pythonfilter - spamassassin

Hello,

During transaction, it's not (yet) possible to modify headers. So,
before having accepted the message for delivery, there is no way to add
these headers. One workaround was to modify headers and re-injecting the
mail in the queue... Gordon documented this feature but spamassassin
filter does not implement it.

To have headers AND filtering, you will have 2 ways:
  - using maildrop: it means spammers will see their mail accepted. No
error messages for the sender when the message is flagged
  - re-injecting the mail in the queue. Depending on the load on the
mailserver, it's possible or not.

HTH.
Jerome Blion.

Thanks, Jerome!
re-injections seems to be the XFilter class.
May be I take the maildrop road first.

[courier-users] slow sending (smtp)

2007-11-19 Thread Bernd Plagge

It could also be ident-lookup if you did not disable it.

For debugging purposes, I would recommand setting -noidentlookup
and -nodnslookup in TCPDOPTS in esmtp-configuration file.

You can test your DNS simply with som command-list-tools (dig,
host, ...) on the server machine.

cu, Bernd

Yest, that helped.
Thanks!

[courier-users] pythonfilter - spamassassin

2007-11-19 Thread Bernd Plagge
Gordon,

thanks for all advice!
I don't disagree with you but I don't like the idea to check spam -
which gets rejected - for viruses.
I know that depending on the return code you continue filtering or not
but wouldn't it make sense to have a sort of final filter step? You
could then run the virus check on everything being left.

cheers,
Bernd

Personally, I would never allow virus checking to be optional. You
should run all of those except for spamassassin in your pythonfilter,

[courier-users] slow sending (smtp)

2007-11-18 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello,

this is probably a configuration issue.
(ldap based) authtest works like a charm but when I send mail from my
notebook it takes 10-15 secs before the mail is send while it is less
than a seconds with qmail.
I supsect that this is a DNS problem but how can I test this?
Or is there a different explanation?

Any help is appreciated!

[courier-users] pythonfilter - spamassassin

2007-11-18 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello,

I'd like to get some advise.

I've just set up courier 0.57 with Gordon's pythonfilter.
Pythonfilter modules used are clamav, spamassassin,
whitelist_relayclients, whitelist_auth.

Thas works fine and was quickly installed! Thank you!

However, it seems that
- the filter quietly removes all spam
i.e. I don't see the actual X-Spam-Status (as before)
- even non-Spam mails don't seem to get the additional header

We have a number of customer who are afraid of false positives and
therefore I'd like to provide a 'delete yourself / control yourself'
variant e.g. by moving all spam to a different folder.

So, if we used the modules
   whitelist_relayclients
   whileist_auth
   spfcheck
   greylisting

in the pythonfilter and
clamav
spamassassin

in (a) a different filter or (b) triggered by maildrop we could probably
greatly reduce the amount of mail passing spam and virus check.

Any comments are appreciated!

Bernd

[courier-users] courierldapaliasd and ldap with SSL

Hi,

What's the correct syntax to make courierldapaliasd get its information
through an LDAPS connection? Neither of these two configurations (in
ldapaliasrc) seem to work:

LDAP_SERVERserver
LDAP_PORT 636

LDAP_SERVERldaps://server/
LDAP_PORT 636

All I get when I use courierldapaliasd query [...] is Error., and
nothing shows up in the LDAP server debug info, so, as far as I can
tell, it's not even reaching the server. However, using a normal
connection (on port 389) it works just fine, so I'm thinking it's not
because of some connectivity or certificate problem. Am I missing
something?

I googled it and searched the mailing list's archives but found no
reference to using LDAPS with courierldapaliasd.

Cheers,
João Vale

Re: [courier-users] courier-users Digest, Vol 14, Issue 29

2007-06-19 Thread Bernd Plagge
Sam,

we close this issue as it has been solved (mails are sent
correctly) and otherwise there is no point to argue about.
Maybe my command of English to not sufficient but the simple question
was whether it is correct that the when sending a mail via PHP the host
name is set to the domain of the recipient address.

Example:

2 mails are sent by PHP submission:

1) mail('', $subject, $message, $headers,

2) mail('', $subject, $message, $headers, $param));

Log entries:

Mail 1:
started,id=000102C4.4671F8CC.7528,from=[EMAIL
PROTECTED],module=esmtp,host=mydomain.com,addr=

Mail 2:
started,id=0001044A.4671F8CC.752A,from=[EMAIL
PROTECTED],module=esmtp,host=nonlocal.com,addr=

Question was: is it correct that the host is set to the host of the
mail-to address?

Maybe that is irrelevant - so no answer required.

Thanks!
Bernd

[courier-users] Problems with mails sent by PHP

2007-06-18 Thread Bernd Plagge
Sam,

while you're right in saying that the message comes from qmail you are
not right in stating that I made something up in 'thin air'.

The machine the mail was sent from is running Courier and it is also
serving as a backup MX for some domains - although NOT for the domain
in question.

When I set this up I got a
454 TLS missing certificate:

error and the solution was to set up a smarthost without TLS.

However, this would send all mail to the primary mail host - and of
course the mail for the non local domain (not hosted on that machine)
was forwarded as well - and consequently rejected.

So, that problem solved, the question remains whether it is correct
that the $host variable is set to the domain of a non-local target
email address (mail sent via PHP).

Kind regards,
Bernd

The domains 'mydomain.com' is local, the domain 'local' is a hosted
domain. 'nonlocal.com' is a completely unrelated domain.
Mail for 'local.com' is forwarded to a different server.

Courier seems to set the hostname to 'nonlocal.com' if the
destination points to a nonlocal address. This causes the message to
bounce.

Is it a 'feature' to set the host name to the recipients domain?

BTW, this is Courier 0.53, stock Debian distribution.

Any hints are appreciated!
Thanks,
Bernd

I recall that you've set up certain list options: moderation, etc…

Let's take it one step a time. Reset the configuration to the default list
config, and try subscribing.

One easy way to get back to the default settings is to edit the options file
in the list directory, and remove everything except ADDRESS and LISTPW
settings.

Hi Sam,

I did this.

uid and gid for Courier are vpopmail.vchkpw - for historical reasons.

Directory structure is:
/home/enaki/mail/list1- mailing list
/home/enaki/mail/postmaster/Maildir - for users

That is, the LDAP directory is specified as /home/enaki/mail and the
default Maildir directory is ./Maildir.

I created the list directory :
  drwx--S-- vpopmail.vchkpw list1

mail to resulted in exec: No such file or
directory, broken pipe

Changing the ownership to root.vchkpw resulted in unable to
read .courier file

Changed ownership back to vpopmail.vchkpw and the permission
of .courier* files to 755.
Mail was delivered but no reply back.

Log for the last attempt (mails to list1-subscribe and list1-help) are:

[courier-users] Couriermlm problem - no subscription replies

2007-05-30 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi everybody,

I got a problem with the courier mailing list.

Setting up worked fine (non-root user), set the options for the web
access, updated /etc/courier/webmlmrc, updated Apache configuration.
Web access worked fine, set list to 'subscription moderation'.

Added .courier, .courier-default, .courier-owner to the list directory.

Setup ldap entry for the list user.

Otherwise I use maildrop for local delivery.

Now, if I send a subscription request to
(domains are changed!) the mail is delivered by courierlocal.

But: Neither do I get a confirmation mail nor does the address show
with couriermlm lsub dir.

The same happens if I send a mail to

However, a mail to is correctly being forwarded
to the list owners email address.

I spent most of the day to solve this problem but probably I'm missing
something fundamental.
Any advice?

Below are some system log entries.

Thanks,
Bernd

[courier-users] Backup MX, alias

2007-04-21 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi,

I have set up a server as Backup MX and it is working though not
perfectly.

The DNS definition for MX servers is like this:

mail.domain1 10 mx
mail02.domain1 20 mx

In courier I defined:

  hosteddomains:
   --
  mail02.domain1

  esmtpacceptmailfor:
   --
  mail02.domain1

As suggested previously in this list I'd like to set up alias
for all existing mail accounts to avoid mail for invalid
accounts to be accepted (and later bounced by the primary mail
server).

I tried it with:

    - user1-domain1

but this didn't work.
So, what is the correct way to set these aliases up?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,

Bernd

[courier-users] Feature request: support for multi-language mlm templates

2007-04-21 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi Mr. Sam,

having used Courier imap and sqwebmail for over 5 years I'm now looking
forward to replacing qmail and vpopmail with Courier as well.
So, first of all: thank you very much for a great program!

I'd also like to use Courier mlm (right now it is EZMLM) but we need
multi-language templates.
Of course I can keep non-English templates in a different directory and
copy them manually but I would be nicer to be able to specify the
language when creating and updating the list.

Let's say you had an additional variable 'language' (en, fr, de, ja
etc.) and the value of the parameter determines the source directory of
the templates. Perhaps we could also have an additional CHARSET file in
the directory contain the character set being used for the templates.

As 'thank you' I will offer the Japanese translation g.

Thanks,

Bernd

That doesn't look like a line from an alias file.

To prevent looping, you'll want to use the hostname of your primary MX,
rather than the domain name in the alias destination. Naturally, the
primary MX will need to consider its hostname a local domain. If your
primary mx is mx1.domain1, then the alias should look like:

:

There should be no MX records in DNS for mx1.domain1.

Thanks Gordon,

that answers it.

[courier-users] courier and ezmlm (QMQP ?)

2007-01-14 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi all,

I looked at mailman as an replacement for ezmlm-idx but it seems to be
quite hard to set up for virtual domains. From what I collected you
need multiple installations unless you ensure otherwise that a given
list name is only used by one (virtual) domain.

Ezmlm is writing directly to qmail-queue UNLESS it finds a qmail
control/qmpqservers file. In that case the mail will be handed over to
a QMQP server.
So, it seems that this could be used to take care of all ezmlm messages
while courier is handling all standard mails.

Can anybody think about any reason why this should not be
working?

All comments are appreciated.

This would be hard work to do because ezmlm-idx does not use sendmail or such
a wrapper but tries to put messages directly into the QMail queue.

I also tried to do this, you have to write a wrapper for the qmail-queue
application.
After a few tries, I gave up and used Mailman. Personally, I liked ezmlm-idx
more, but our customers like Mailman because everything can be done via web
interface.

[courier-users] Courier and ezmlm-idx

2007-01-08 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hi all,

we are currently using qmail, ezmlm-idx, vpopmail and courier-imap,
sqwebmail but I want to change a more courier-centric installation.

I quite like ezmlm-idx - mainly for international templates and DB
support (subscribers can be stored in a database). Customers can set a
mailinglist easily up with qmailadmin.

Couriermlm seems to be quite similiar to ezmlm but I'm missing
international templates, DB support and some graphical user interface.

Does anybody know about a web interface for courier-mlm? Is it possible
to have international templates?

Alternatively I think that it should be possible to use ezmlm-idx with
Courier and maildrop. Is there anybody doing this?

All comments are appreciated!

Hi all,

I just tested the newest 0.54 courier version.
The good news are that the UTF-8 bug for Japanese has gone. Thanks!

Hi Steve,

you can check your setup using authtest. Also, I sugest to enable
debugging in authdaemond.
There is a good article about debugging authentication issues on the
courier homepage . Please check it.

authtest password

will display all user data if successful. If you set the debug option
to '2' you will also find detailed data in your systemlog.

You did set up ldap using the authldap schema didn't you?

Hope this helps!

running under SLES10.

I am unable to get any response from this in the web interface.

I have defined the information regarding my LDAP server
in /usr/lib/courier/etc/ldapaddressbook:
ADFAdir.adfa.edu.au 389 ou=staff,o=adfa

However, typing in various last names in the search box in the web
interface
give nothing at all.

The Courier installation documentation (p 44) under LDAP address book
import indicates that the courier(8) man page should be consulted for more
information. That appears only to have the same information as the
installation docs??

I have run /usr/bin/ldapsearch and this gives me answers that I would
expect
using the following format (an example looking for a CN value of fnurk:
ldapsearch -x -h dir.adfa.edu.au -b 'ou=staff,o=adfa' '(cn=fnurk)'

Having dug around in the Courier installation directories I find another
ldapsearch binary (in the /usr/lib/courier/share/sqwebmail directory). I can
get no response from that program at all.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong?

I also can see no way to specify what filter to use with the search. I
would like to use cn for that.

[courier-users] Japanese calendar display (1)

2006-12-29 Thread Bernd Plagge
This message bounced because of its size. As I need the images to
illustrate the problem I split it into 3 pieces. Sorry for the
inconvienence!
This is part 1.

Hello everybody,

we got some problems to display calendar entries in Japanese (UTF-8).

While date and time are formatted according to the locale
(ja_JP.UTF-8) there comes a crippled character after the number of
minutes followed by the kanji of 'second'. (see webmail03.png)
It seems that this is coded in pcp.c.

The display of the calendar entry in 'folders.html' is awful because
the column for the date/time (column 1) is too narrow. This seems to be
hard-coded with the column width set to 1%. (see webmail01.png)

The same problem occurs if you display the event by clicking on the
subject. (see webmail02.png).

Any ideas how to solve this?

Regards,

Bernard

[courier-users] Japanese calendar display

2006-12-29 Thread Bernd Plagge
This message bounced because of its size. As I need the images to
illustrate the problem I split it into 3 pieces. Sorry for the
inconvienence!
This is part 2.

Regards,

Bernard

[courier-users] Error in autoresponder.html

2006-12-27 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello everybody,

it seems that there is a typo in the autoresponder.html webmail
template.

Original:
[#$TEXT1=textarea style=font-family: courier; cols=75 rows=10
name=text wrap=soft class=autoresptext#]

Correct:
[#$TEXT1=textarea style=font-family: courier; cols=75 rows=10
name=text wrap=soft class=autoresptext#]

(quote in front of 'name')
prevents entry of autoresponder messages when using MS IE.

Regards,

Bernard

[courier-users] Japanese autoresponder text in Unicode

2006-12-27 Thread Bernd Plagge
Hello everybody,

we are using the Courier 0.53 sqwebmail in Japanese (UTF-8 encoded) and
encounter some chararcter conversion problems.

When entering Japanese autoresponder text in UTF-8 (browser charset
and template charset are set to UTF-8) SOME characters get crippled.

I entered the same text as a normal message and as an autoresponder
text. The autoresponder text gets crippled while the normal message
text is ok.
Please see the attached images.
(I hope images don't get detached - otherwise kindly tell me to which
address I can send them).
