I can't reproduce? Do you have a $HOME/.ripit/config? Please send

I testet both output= and output=/where/to/save, I the first case
the dir was createt in $HOME in the latter case in /where/to/save.

Hi,

finch currently does not show any date either on the screen or in
the log files.  So if it's running for days, there is no way to
tell from what date a message is.

I can't find any option where to change in the software,
the only option I see is: Show Timestamps

But my prefs.txt contains:

pref name='force_24hr' type='bool' value='1'/
pref name='use_dates'
pref name='conversation' type='string' value='automatic'/
pref name='log' type='string' value='automatic'/
/pref
/pref

So it seems to be set to automatic, but never log any date.  And I
have no idea what other values I could put there.

I would be happy if it showed every change of date or something
like that.

The only thing that contains a date is the name of the log file,
buf for a file containing logs of several days that's not useful.

I also noticed that on the screen it shows the time in 24h format
but in the log files with AM/PM.

I've set up finch to play sounds on certain events.  But if I have
a window open for that person, and it's the active window, it
doesn't play any sound.

The reason to play the sounds is that I might not be looking at
the screen that has finch running, so that if someone says
something to me that I know I have to go and look at it.

In the Sound stops working section, the alsa checklist says:

- make sure on OSS modules are loaded

- check whether the command 'cat /dev/urandom  /dev/dsp' works for root

This is contradictory because /dev/dsp does not exist unless you have 
either the OSS modules loaded or the alsa-oss compatibility layer 
installed.

Attached a patch to replace this with the 'speaker-test' command.  I 
could commit it directly if it's easier for you.

As you pointed, Usplash is orphaned and out of sync with Ubuntu.
Ubuntu started to work on Plymouth packages.
Last time I tried Plymouth, it doesn't work very well at all.

Thanks for reporting the issue!
The problem is luckily only a little typo in apt-pkg/acquire.cc.
As long as a new version with a patch is not uploaded you can add
-o Acquire::http::DlLimit=1
to your apt-get command as a hotfix.
(Note: The concrete value for this typo-config is irrelevant)

 However, after downloading several files, it will indeed start obeying
 Acquire::http::Dl-Limit. So the problem isn't for the entire download session.
The typo prevents apt from switching into a single download mode.
If you look close at the output you can see, that the first download
obey the Dl-Limit - but all other downloads run at fullspeed,
so if only one package is downloaded the Limit is obeyed. :)

I thought Ubuntu went the “no splash at all” way, hoping to go to the
10-sec boot for 9.10 or 10.04?

Hello,

Until 2.6.29-2-amd64 my laptop was making a special sound (two system 
beeps in rapid succession) when plugging/unplugging the power cord. This 
sound would work whether the pcspkr module was loaded or not (which 
would stop any other system beeps), but can be disabled by muting the 
Beep control in alsamixer. It also works during POST or at the grub 
menu.

With 2.6.30-1-amd64 this works only a few seconds into the boot sequence 
when it stops completely and no loading/unloading of modules or 
mutin/unmuting of channels will bring it back. This seems to be related 
to this

$ dmesg | grep Beep
[6.234499] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as 
/devices/pci:00/:00:1b.0/input/input10

(I see the submitter has the same thing in his dmesg)

which doesn't show up at all if I boot 2.6.29-2-amd64. Also, the system 
beep has a much higher pitch now (very annoying).

Is this a known regression?

Great, so we found the problem.

Most of pbuilder / cowbuilder is running as root and create some files
as root, but when building packages and becoming non-root, the files
need to be read by that user, so 0027 isn't really tested/supported in
the current cowbuiler codebase.

pbuilder actually sets umask to 0022.  cowbuilder doesn't, so the
quick correct course of action would be to set umask to 0022 inside
cowbuilder.

Getting pbuilder / cowbuilder to work with 0027 would be a more
involved change.

 Strange.  I use the same configuration on my home system, but never
 got this error message.  Neither with 3.0.12 nor with 3.0.13.

I downgraded to 3.0.12. This version works fine.

After a subsequent upgrade to 3.0.13 I could reproduce the same error:

Fatal error: can't bind to INADDR_ANY:8118: The hostname is not  resolvable

 Maybe its a sid issue (I personally usually use lenny).  

I use unstable but it is only a problem with 3.0.13 as mentioned above.

 config file or is it only the output in the log?  

It is only in the log file.

 The correct configuration to listen on all interfaces is

1. listen-address 127.0.0.1:8118 works EVERY time
2. listen-address :8118 FIRST startup attempt after boot: fails

5. listen-address localhost:8118 second and further startups work fine

Output of test case 2 in /var/log/privoxy/logfile:

Output of test case 4 in /var/log/privoxy/logfile:
Fatal error: can't bind to localhost:8118: The hostname is not  resolvable

It seems that there is a problem in the name resolution
(The hostname is not resolvable).

Not a problem IMO -- we need a new package name anyway if gcc's ABI
changes, and the double/triple symbols are there precisely because the
ABI says so.

Except for a vtable/typeinfo/name group (which reeks of actual doubled
code) all lines in your output are constructors, destructors and thunks to
destructors.

Package cups should depend on ghostscript-cups, as that package now contains 
the files in question.
Unfortunately, printing does not work after installing ghostscript-cups, though

When running obconf under a lxde session (lxsession-lite), I get the
following error message on a popup dialog whenever I try to change
something: An error occurred while trying to save the config file
'/openbox/lxde-rc.xml'. The command line outputs the following: I/O
Error: No such file or directory. This can be worked around by running
obconf with the '--config-file' option, but it's kind-of annoying to run
stuff from command line when you're used to shortcuts... Or when you are
on a pda. The problem does not occur while running as root.

Bug#533894: initramfs-tools: add support for virtio modules for netbooting

So kernel/drivers/block is considered only if using MODULES=most but
not when using MODULES=netboot. The only virtio file that is copied
at all is virtio_pci from the base class. So both virtio_net *and*
virtio_blk are missing.

Huh? I was just answering regarding your 'ok for virtio_blk and
virtio_net' and your statement that virtio_blk would be already
included in the initrd (which isn't the case when using
MODULES=netboot).

Daniel, can you please verify whether adding just virtio_net
to the initrd is enough for your usecase.
   
sorry for the delay in my reaction. I had to social engineer re-access 
to my setup, which runs at my old employer ;-)


for a working netboot with virtio nic the following modules are required:

* virtio
* virtio_pci (although virtio_net has no dependency entry for this 
module, it is mandatory for nearly all other virtio module)

* virtio_ring (virtio_pci depends on it)
* virtio_net

virtio_blk is definitely NOT required for netboot, as it provides access 
to local block devices only.

other virtio modules like virtio_ballon are also not needed.

$ pwd

$ man gnome-terminal

Ctrl-Shift-t

$ pwd
/usr/share/man

So if you open a new tab with Ctrl-Shift-t you have the initial path of 
the command. If the command is in a directory you don't have the execute 
right, than your initial path is the root /


This is changed recently.

I think this is important because you can do command thinking you are in 
a directory, but you have been moved to another.

Bug#516292: dhis-server is incompatible with dhis-client

Hello,

The problem was that the changelog of dhis-client 5.5 claimed it was compatible
with dhis-server 5.3, and I believed it:

[dhid] 5.5 packets still go out with rport set, making them compatible with
servers of versions 5.3 or lower.

But there was no such change in the source code. I uploaded dhis-client 5.5-3
two weeks ago that should fix this bug. Can you verify this?
