Normally module versions are unrelated to the NetBeans version. So a
NetBeans Platform app doesn't update versions the same way a
Maven-based NetBeans Platform app (where for convenience we have only
major versions like RELEASE82, whatever).
So now, both IntelliJ and Eclipse use calendar versioning (2019.03)
but it seems crazy to suggest this for NetBeans?
I guess this is also a branding strategy: be against the trends.

The steps sound good except the Snap convenience binary which I know is
your baby but I still don't understand what binaries are there.
The convenience binaries we distribute as Apache NetBeans are distributed
by Apache infra and built by Apache servers and voted on. Not sure which of
these is tru
Ideally I would like Apache to make some policy changes. But now I
also have a way to do what I believe it's best for the users and the
end product regardless of what Apache decides.
InnoSetup is good enough for a Windows installer. I guess it's
possible to download the JDK as part of the installa
Peter is continuing his quest of running OSGi modules inside the
Platform (on top of Equinox / Netbinox). I know this since we talked
about this in another thread but I understand how Geertjan might be
confused. For me it's rather clear what the problem is but I don't

Well, this opens another discussion. I don't believe Oracle or Amazon could
'bundle' NetBeans for trademark reasons.
They could, of course, create their own IDE based on Apache NetBeans.

Oh, that's a pretty big PR. I will try it next week and see if I can
create an installer.
PS: Are we even allowed to bundle a JDK under Apache?

Maybe some people used to own specific areas but people move to new
projects, new companies, etc. Only a fraction of the people that
worked on NetBeans are active on the Apache mailing list.
It's best to start looking at code, ask questions (or make small PRs)
and see who answers :-)

I am bundling JDK 10.0.2. I am skipping JDK 11.0.1 as there were some
bugs with it showing up for NetBeans but I'm not entirely sure it
affects the Platform or just the IDE...
Once JDK 11.0.2 is available I think I'll start bundling that.

Checked SHA512 (which should be listed in the email) and verified the
GPG signature (the key is also on pgp.mit.edu).
Built successfully on macOS with JDK 1.8:
Product Version: Apache NetBeans IDE 10.0 (Build 20181219-unknown-revn)
Java: 1.8.0_181; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM

That SHA1 confused me too.
The SHA512 for the release artefact seems quite essential. Somebody
changing the artefact can easily update the hash too, but if the hash
is publicly listed in the email then it's almost impossible t

The parliament proceedings are still (mostly) public for everyone to
see, but people only really care about the final law.
Laws also get various drafts, failed votes, last minute changes, etc.

It's only the non-default Felix that's broken and I believe there was a
patch for this which basically upgraded to a newer Felix version.
