I don't see where that device can play streams from Slimserver, aside
from stream.mp3, but then you need a laptop to choose music, and you
might as well just use Softsqueeze.
If you only want Internet radio, that's fine, but a lot of us prefer
our own libraries :)

I bought - a number of months ago - a setup that allowed me to broadcast
my music (via SB2) to a pair of speakers that could be either battery
powered or plugged in.
It is not the best thing in the world, but we can put the speakers
anywhere, either with or without batteries (we have never used

I'd love to have one that was small enough to put into carry-on luggage,
etc. Great for hotels, cabins, etc. when travelling. Probably smaller
than what a lot of people would think of as a traditional boombox, but
still be able to project decent sound. Certainly need to have it

Well, regarding using such a thing in public, I wouldn't, but there are
lots of (annoying!) people who do - at the beach, camping, in their
front (not back) yards, and once even at the grocery store! Couldn't
figure that one out.
Would I buy one? Maybe not, but I could really see where they

I'd buy more than 2... gifts!
BTW Tyler... the market for dedicated ipod speakers dwarfs the wireless
digital music streaming server/player (insert your favorite acronym
here) market.
Trust me, a LOT of people buy them.

I don't think that there is a doubt
Where do they use them:
Kitchens
Bedrooms
Offices (at home and work)
Living Rooms (yes this is because they, gasp... don't own a stereo)
In the garage (I work on my car)
On patio/porch/pool/deck
On the road (hotel)
Basically anywhere they don't have a real stereo
I would have bought a boombox had one been available at a reasonable
rate - in fact ... if the Roku Soundbridge Radio had been available
closer to its originally announced delivery date, I would have bought
it rather than my 2nd Squeezebox.
FYI - I have never seen a set of iPod speakers in use,

you make SlimServer available on a public IP address, SlimServer will be
exposed to the world. But security is none of the design goals (afaik).

Yes, exactly. Don't you think a Squeezebox Boombox would be the ideal
product to unlock the potential of the music locker?
Accessing my SS directly is free, where music locker isn't, but that

Well,
I might buy one, many of the uber SB fans around here would too.

What's the point in it really? think about it, you might as well have a

It would have the functionality of a SB3, it's familiar UI, but with

I agree wholeheartedly. I hope the folks at Slim...er Logitech have put
this one on the list. I'd buy two the minute they were announced. In
fact, the lack of an all in one player is what keeps me from
recommending SB to the less technically savvy crowd (read: Parents).
