I finally have proven to myself Bits are Bits and the SqueezeBox 3 (no
mods) transmits every last one of them. I was discouraged to hear folks
talking about Linear vs Switching power supplies, changing caps and who
knows what else. The standard SqueezeBox 3 transmits (over SPDIF)
perfectly.

should be aware that (IMHO) you haven't proved very much, at least that
is relevant to the debates that spring up from time to time.
The main problem is that you were sending the bits into a data capture

Thanks Danco. I will try and disable the option where you have text and
the spectrum stuff as it's very ugly. The other screen presentations
are so nice, I'm surprised this is by design.

You say you cannot edit the tracks. I think this may be a permissions
type problem.
I think if you look at the permissions for the disk you may find the
problem lies there.
I once tried to have a single itunes for multiple users on a system and
kept running into similar problems.

I did check the iTunes library and it was read only so I changed this,
but it did not make any difference I could still not alter any of the
track info, add to iTunes playlists or sync my iPod.
However using Media Player you can alter any of these things very
easily.

Receiver or Preamp that is capable of locking onto the SPDIF output of
the squeezebox jitter free as well as or better than the cheap $200.00
box and junky cables spliced together I used. If your system can't I

You'll then still have the originals as well as your own Greatest
Hits album.
This will be tricky when you also have a Greatest Hits album by the

I just finished relocating my iTunes library from the hard drive where
it previously existed, to a new network drive. The new drive consists
of three 500gb drives in Raid 5. I was able to move it succesfully and
change iTunes to redirect there, but the Transporter somehow can't see
those files.
I had a similar problem with my SB3. It worked fine until I hooked my
XBOX up to the ethernet bridge. When I powered on the XBOX neither the
SB nor the XBOX would connect. It turned out the problem was I had
manually set the MAC address of the NIC in the XBOX to be the same as
another machine on

I do use iTunes to rip files to Apple Lossless and for tagging, but
prefer NOT to have Slim use iTunes' library. Change your library
settings to look at /Volumes/(your external HD name)/iTunes library

doesnt seem to find them, as in they don't show up at al, but i can
find and play the flac but with no info.

I agree that this would be nice. It could be tricky to implement in a
ReplayGain-style though - audio would have to be scanned and
adjustments would have to be sent on the fly. Also

The solution proposed there is very nice, but for the beginning one
simple adjustment value would help a lot.

Just switched from XP professional to Windows Vista Home premium and am
having no luck getting slimserver to work. Downloaded a clean install
of 6.5.2 on a new computer and everything seemed fine. Slimserver
opened up, scanned my music directory and found all music. The

How did you rip your files? I have 2-SB3s and a Transporter and have
never seen this... I only use the digital outs. However, if your files
are at a sampling rate of 32kHz, then the digital out will match, just
as playing back a 48kHz file spits out a 48kHz sampling rate from the

sample rate was 44.1. I will try ripping a CD with 44.1 wav and see

The only other thing I can think of is that you are STILL using the
iTunes library folder setup, i.e. iTunes\iTunes Music. Try keeping
your setting to USE ITUNES but type in D:\Music-Home\iTunes and leave
it at that.
Otherwise, someone else that's more PC savvy is going to have to chime

I ran into a similar problem yesterday with SlimServer 6.5.1. My rescan
function suddenly stopped working. I thought the problem was caused by
some clumbsy install work I did on some plug-ins, but that was just a
guess. I was able to fix the problem by reinstlling 6.5.1. Works
fine now.

Try a Factory reset: unplug your SB, press and hold the ADD button on
the remote control while you power it up again. You'll have to re-do the
configuration, but this solved my similar issues when I upgraded some time
