With a PI (or other small computer solution) you have the option to use
a 'FLIRC dongle' (https://flirc.tv/).
With that dongle you have the option of using a regular IR remote or
even a universal IR remote. I use this on one of my Wandboards and it

I've realised that the Radio PSU is 18v and has the same sized barrel
connector and, although it's only 1.0 amp the Boom seems to sound OK
with.
